I can't wait for the Gothic remake. It's really unfortunate what happened with Piranha Bytes who, I argue, did the open world first and better than Bethesda did with Morrowind a year before. It's an underrated cult classic and I hope this one will capture at least half of that essence that the original had. Titan Quest was also one of the first offset Diablo clones that really set up the company to go make Grim Dawn and it's expansions back in the day and the fact that we're getting Titan Quest 2 after almost 2 decades it's crazy to me.
The problem is that Piranha Bytes never understood why people loved Gothic 1 and 2. They literally caught lightning in a bottle twice in a row. I think that inflated their egos so much they thought they knew best. It's a shame. All they had to do was listen to what the fans told them why they liked it.
@@jjanko1269 i think gothic 2 still misses some widescreen patches or dx11 patch etc to make it work better on modern systems + the standalone mods are insane, same goes for gothic 3 + addon iirc there was already a newer patch out there that brings more fixes (could be already in the steam version though). Arcania (also some say Gothic 4) is worth a try even when its from a different studio. its more of a cut down version with being linear world design within an open world but story telling is more or less better to understand, combat is good & should work on modern systems but doesnt come close to any older gothic titles
@@Xalantor The studio wanted to but the studio leader had a big ego and wanted to implement all of his ideas from Risen 2 to Elex 2. I heard some developers from Piranha Bytes joined Alkimia though, that is probably the best thing that could have happened. I just hope it's gonna be a big success so we will get G2 and eventually 3 completely rebuilt.
i play titan quest 1 and I would say I enjoy it even though i dont understand it deeply because maybe i was just young boy on those old days, greek mythology is interesting

TQ is actually older than POE. And it was the first ever realistic cinematic that I've watched. Even before SC2 (which was way better but still). I love POE but for the ppl that's shitting on TQ without knowing it's history. You guys are literally saying a game 7 years before POE is a rip-off? TQ on launch was way better than what POE was on launch. Just the map and mob types of 2006 TQ are like 3 times the size of 2013 POE. It was sad to watch it die because it's not a live-service or MMO, and the balancing for Masteries was quite bad. And TQ music, it was effing sick. Full 3D plus modding support, plus proper voice line and a giant ass map with crazy monster diversity. It's a game beyond it's time.
Btw TQ didn't get popularity as a D2-like, unlike POE, mainly because it's art direction was bright and sunshine instead of the dark and dungeon vibe of D2 and POE in 2013. So many D2 fans are not into that game. I wasn't a D2 fan, TQ was the first proper PC game that I've ever played, and no AAA could beat it after. I would say POE only became decisively better until 3.0
It was a big hit in eastern europe, probably didn't landed as good in states at the time cause exposure to more and better games at a time, but here it was our D3.
Oh man... THQ making another Darksiders. I just hope it's not another genre again. So far we have a legend of zelda type platformer, "open" world RPG, a souls-like, and a bullet hell. Something in the middle of Darksiders 1 and 2 would be perfect.

My friend took his own life last year, and we used to play Titan Quest together all the time. When I saw we were getting a new one, I almost cried. Love THQ and their ambitious projects. ❤

I hope they don’t screw up Titan Quest 2. After all that happened with 1 and the rough road it had (The publisher abandoned it after the DLC release, the game could melt your PC and had so many bugs / glitches that you lost track , Fans patched it and kept it running, another publisher took over, over a decade later we got 3 new DLCs), the series deserves some recognition beside the loyal fanbase it already has.
i have faith in grimlore. while spellforce 3 was a bugfest when it came out, the reforced version is REALY good. conquest of eo is also fun to play (although a bit hard to get into).
Sadly they have everything to fuck up Titan Quest 2, since the original team left to make Grim Dawn. Hopefully they get it right, though. I always root for dev teams to work it and release good games.

The unique thing of the combatsystem in Gothic always was a visual progression too. You begin as the weakling everybody beats up, so you have to carefully look where you walk, because even a single wolf could mean death to you^^ The hero in the beginning leads his 1-hand sword with two hands and has kinda slow movements when swinging, also no combos. But when you progress and invest your points into the combatskills your protagonist will swing the sword with elegance, put combo after combo and also do critical strikes more frequently. Blocking vs human enemies was necessary in the first game, cause one or two hits could already knock you out :D
Yeah, when you fight human enemies you can see how difficult they are from the weapon stance they take. The whole game is full of little details like that that made playing blast. The minimal UI also contributed a lot to the feel of the game.
I'm down for titanquest 2 probably the most followed by the Gothic remake. Depends what they do with the darksiders game but if it's good I'll play that too.
I actually loved Epic Mickey when I was a kid, and I was allowed to play violent games. I had the guidebook and everything. The concept art and proposed direction of the game is actually really cool before the disney execs stepped in because they didnt want mickey killing cartoon characters with paint thinner.
Gothic 1 still hold up i played it for the first time last year you do have to use steam workshop to get it working but its even playable with a controller. Even now its unique and for a 2001 game impressive. piranha bytes games have shut down but there something special about all there games Gothic, Risen and Elex series.

But if you join the old camp and work your way up there you can see some women slaves in the quarters of the lords of the old camp. THQ is not a studio, it's a publisher. As part of the Embracer Group it also fired a large portion of it's developers and closed many small studios. I wander hoe good these games will be after they cut most of the dev teams..
We are aware that THQ is a publisher. However it doesn’t get to decide what devs close unless they’re fully owned (meaning it’s a publisher/ dev conglomerate). If a publisher dumps a game from an independent dev, the dev can just find another publisher
Epic Mickey is actually a fantastic game, don't knock it until you try it. Its actually super dark and grotesque. It has a kind of morality system where it judges you based on if you defeat your enemies with thinner, to actually melt them, or with paint, to befriend them. If you aren't convinced, look up the Epic Mickey concept art. Those are the stuff of nightmares. They were made to show off a proof of concept.

Best part of Titan Quest IMO was going down into Hades (the place), beating up Hades (the person), and then phase 2 of the boss was his ghost because he's already right there in the underworld at time of death.
I played Titan's Quest ALMOST as much as I played Diablo 2. And I was in the Navy when I played TQ, and high school for D2. So I had a lot more time to play D2.
I won't live long enough to ever put more hours into another game after D2. Warframe is getting close with 9000 hours, but that's not even half the time I put on D2.
Titan Quest is so goated. Even years later they still brought out DLCs completely out of the blue and most of them were amazing. You can definitely tell that the original game came out in 2006 so im really excited to see how TQ 2 will be with updated gameplay. Never expected Asmon to hear about it tbh. Really happy the game is getting more attention
One of my main wishes in Gothic is to have more interaction between the 5 main characters. (Diego, Milten, Gorn etc) This was planned originally but couldn't be done because of engine limitations
Gothic was great for it's time. The world felt alive, the 3 factions you can join completely changed the whole play through, the combat animations changing as you leveled up made it feel immersive, etc. It was ahead of it's time and underrated considering it came out before Morrowind.
Titan Quest one is probably my all time favourite game, and the game i've played the most (in terms of hours) outside of MMOs. I whole heartedly recommend it to anybody and everybody.
while it was a nice feature it also had problems, same with their "revamped" faction system, i missed the old one where u joined one of the 3 guilds, ur decision was final & u get different armor or access to different weapon/spells + the variety & new quests that changed after u joined one of them. Gothic 3 somehow barely had such variety, they tried it but was more "dumbed" down version of it, basically instantly finishing the quest. but liked the big city/outpost fights, hands down the best thing i did back then
Darksiders announcement was the only thing I cared for. Thought we were never gonna get a "Horsemen Assemble" type game. Wonder if they will skip a standalone Strife game. Been wondering how they would work him in mechanic wise with War, Death and Fury being melee focused.
I absolutely cannot wait. Gothic is crimminally unknown and too good of a classic for its time! It looks like they have done it with passion for the game, the atmosphere seems to be there! love it .
Im a bit sad that Titan Quest is less colourfull right now, but thats a minor issue, just seeing some love for this game again makes me happy. It was my first ARPG, before Diablo and sorts, and i played it for years. The Gothic Remake looks good, im kinda happy that they replace the Combat because that was always kinda janky

I'm a huge GD and TQ fan over all other aRPGs and TQ2 looks promising with the devs fully embracing what made the original so memorable. We still need a lot more details about the game but I have faith these devs can pull it off, if people come in with the expectation that this is a AA aRPG and not a POE/D4 competitor, that is.
Combat is slow by design in Gothic because your character doesn't really know how to fight at the begining. As you progress and improve your skill with weapons you get faster.
I highly recommend 1 and 2. 2 is the best one. 3 pales in comparison to both. The steam versions suck so I recommend getting them from GoG. They patch the games to be modern PC compatible.
Only thing for Gothic I am worried about is the mood. It lived a lot from being developed in a region of Germany called Ruhrgebiet, which is worker class, low income, still transitioning from steel and coal industry. Which is noticable in the storyline. We have a certain way to speak/ act here and that was audible/ visible in the original game. Now it is developed by a Studio in Barcelona, no connection to its roots, just an interpretation of something that was before. It will probably become a better game to some degree, but loose a lot of it charme.
One of the more disappointing things, for real. For all its flaws and limitations, the atmosphere was incredible. Maybe they managed to recapture the essence to a degree, but tbh I'll take a chance at a full series remake if this one does well enough if the cost is a bit of the old magic. Gothic 2 may suffer the same fate, but if they remake 3, it would be very hard not to objectively improve every detail.
Kai Rosengranz who did the music and sound design for the Gothic series is doing it again this time. I would expect a lot of similar or sometimes even the same dialogue. It’s a pretty faithful remake and the fans are telling them about the dialogue being special all the time.
please don't let titan quest flop because of microtransactions I hope it's a one time pay, BG3 proved it STILL works torchlight 3 and diablo 4 failed mostly because of microtransactions, and they were such great franchise
Really hope thq doesn't mess titan quest 2. I hope they keep the feeling of the first game narratively and make you feel like you're on a journey and just add more cinematics and improve things like physics.

So many noobs (including Asmongold) who think every RPG has to be like Skyrim, and have no idea what Gothic is all about... "Uh... combat looks slow" - well, it is slow, because the character in the trailer is yet untrained and doesn't even know how to hold a weapon properly. It will get much faster and more precise as he develops his melee skills, by learning from in game NPC trainers. Also saying "Oooh, Drangon's Dogma did this", and "Oooh yeah, Baldur's Gate 3 had that, and players were loving it", not realizing that Gothic 1 did all of it first, 23 years ago... granted, by taking inspiration from the Ultima games, but they did it long before the RPGs Asmongold and his viewers are fanboying about. I hate it when people try to give expertise on games they know nothing about and attribute their qualities to games that don't deserve it.
You know what would make a ridiculous amount of money. Making an awesome game with a respectable dev team and call it, "P*n*s Quest". Everyones gunna love it.
I played a ton of Titan Quest a decade and a half ago. It will be interesting to see what the developers have learned from PoE and D4 and if they were able to apply it to this franchise.
Titan quest was a DLC infested waste of time. It took up limited shop space in-game to push paid dlc down your throat. It's no wonder it sells so poorly.

It goes downhill afterwards. That’s not the case. Do you men graphical progress has slowed down a lot? That would make much more sense and that is to be expected anyways the better graphics get (you’ll have diminishing returns).
I always wanted to like Gothic games, but their controls made all of them unplayable. Hopefully they've fixed that in the remake. Titan Quest was a fun game so definitely giving the new one a try.
Oddsparks, the first game shown. Is actually pretty fcking good if you like automation games. It has a hint of pikman as well with the combat. Where you have different types of units that do different things and you call them back to you to avoid damage. It gets crazy once you start automating their own production and you start having sooo fcking many of them in the production lines (they are the ones operating the machinery AND they are are the conveyor belts). Game does not dip one frame. Highly recommended if you guys enjoyed Statisfactory or factorio. They announced the xbox release, the game is already on PC.

Gothic is such a classic. It has everything. Good gameplay, a cool story, and Eurojank. The amount of early internet memes the games caused was epic.

THQ is not a studio, it's a publisher. As part of the Embracer Group it also fired a large portion of it's developers and closed many small studios. I wander hoe good these games will be after they cut most of the dev teams..

We are aware that THQ is a publisher. However it doesn’t get to decide what devs close unless they’re fully owned (meaning it’s a publisher/ dev conglomerate). If a publisher dumps a game from an independent dev, the dev can just find another publisher

Epic Mickey is actually a fantastic game, don't knock it until you try it. Its actually super dark and grotesque. It has a kind of morality system where it judges you based on if you defeat your enemies with thinner, to actually melt them, or with paint, to befriend them. If you aren't convinced, look up the Epic Mickey concept art. Those are the stuff of nightmares. They were made to show off a proof of concept.
@@TheDanteBoots No?? Just my genuine thoughts on the game. Oswald is my one of my favorite Fictional Characters and I discovered him through this game. It brought him back into the public eye. I want people to experience this game as it is genuinely pretty good and a solid platformer.

Best part of Titan Quest IMO was going down into Hades (the place), beating up Hades (the person), and then phase 2 of the boss was his ghost because he's already right there in the underworld at time of death.

I played Titan's Quest ALMOST as much as I played Diablo 2. And I was in the Navy when I played TQ, and high school for D2. So I had a lot more time to play D2.
I won't live long enough to ever put more hours into another game after D2. Warframe is getting close with 9000 hours, but that's not even half the time I put on D2.

Titan Quest is so goated. Even years later they still brought out DLCs completely out of the blue and most of them were amazing. You can definitely tell that the original game came out in 2006 so im really excited to see how TQ 2 will be with updated gameplay. Never expected Asmon to hear about it tbh. Really happy the game is getting more attention
combat in gothic games is always slow at start to create real feeling of progress - later it's way faster and dynamic
Loved the first Titan Quest. Best Diablo Clone. It was really cool how you could see enemies wielding rare weapon drops.
Dialo didn't start the genre. Diablo is a clone from older games. One of which, was Dragon Slayer.

One of my main wishes in Gothic is to have more interaction between the 5 main characters. (Diego, Milten, Gorn etc) This was planned originally but couldn't be done because of engine limitations
Gothic was great for it's time.
The world felt alive, the 3 factions you can join completely changed the whole play through, the combat animations changing as you leveled up made it feel immersive, etc.
It was ahead of it's time and underrated considering it came out before Morrowind.

Titan Quest one is probably my all time favourite game, and the game i've played the most (in terms of hours) outside of MMOs.
I whole heartedly recommend it to anybody and everybody.
My favorite thing about Gothic 3 is that it's super free to do quests the way you want. Hopefully it will get a reset as well.
while it was a nice feature it also had problems, same with their "revamped" faction system, i missed the old one where u joined one of the 3 guilds, ur decision was final & u get different armor or access to different weapon/spells + the variety & new quests that changed after u joined one of them. Gothic 3 somehow barely had such variety, they tried it but was more "dumbed" down version of it, basically instantly finishing the quest. but liked the big city/outpost fights, hands down the best thing i did back then
Darksiders announcement was the only thing I cared for. Thought we were never gonna get a "Horsemen Assemble" type game. Wonder if they will skip a standalone Strife game. Been wondering how they would work him in mechanic wise with War, Death and Fury being melee focused.
I absolutely cannot wait. Gothic is crimminally unknown and too good of a classic for its time! It looks like they have done it with passion for the game, the atmosphere seems to be there! love it .

Im a bit sad that Titan Quest is less colourfull right now, but thats a minor issue, just seeing some love for this game again makes me happy. It was my first ARPG, before Diablo and sorts, and i played it for years. The Gothic Remake looks good, im kinda happy that they replace the Combat because that was always kinda janky

@@Lubet0TheGreat Its does not need to be made by the original devs to be a good game that is faithful to the subject material. I'm a huge GD and TQ fan over all other aRPGs and TQ2 looks promising with the devs fully embracing what made the original so memorable. We still need a lot more details about the game but I have faith these devs can pull it off, if people come in with the expectation that this is a AA aRPG and not a POE/D4 competitor, that is.

Combat is slow by design in Gothic because your character doesn't really know how to fight at the begining. As you progress and improve your skill with weapons you get faster.
OG Titan Quest came out in a time when we were waiting on Diablo 3...Titan Quest 2 coming out when we're waiting for a proper Diablo 4 lol.
Gothic 3 was my first pc game. It blew me away it was so good
I highly recommend 1 and 2. 2 is the best one. 3 pales in comparison to both. The steam versions suck so I recommend getting them from GoG. They patch the games to be modern PC compatible.

I still play Titan Quest to this day. Great game!
Only thing for Gothic I am worried about is the mood. It lived a lot from being developed in a region of Germany called Ruhrgebiet, which is worker class, low income, still transitioning from steel and coal industry. Which is noticable in the storyline. We have a certain way to speak/ act here and that was audible/ visible in the original game. Now it is developed by a Studio in Barcelona, no connection to its roots, just an interpretation of something that was before. It will probably become a better game to some degree, but loose a lot of it charme.
One of the more disappointing things, for real. For all its flaws and limitations, the atmosphere was incredible.
Maybe they managed to recapture the essence to a degree, but tbh I'll take a chance at a full series remake if this one does well enough if the cost is a bit of the old magic. Gothic 2 may suffer the same fate, but if they remake 3, it would be very hard not to objectively improve every detail.
Kai Rosengranz who did the music and sound design for the Gothic series is doing it again this time. I would expect a lot of similar or sometimes even the same dialogue. It’s a pretty faithful remake and the fans are telling them about the dialogue being special all the time.

So many noobs (including Asmongold) who think every RPG has to be like Skyrim, and have no idea what Gothic is all about... "Uh... combat looks slow" - well, it is slow, because the character in the trailer is yet untrained and doesn't even know how to hold a weapon properly. It will get much faster and more precise as he develops his melee skills, by learning from in game NPC trainers. Also saying "Oooh, Drangon's Dogma did this", and "Oooh yeah, Baldur's Gate 3 had that, and players were loving it", not realizing that Gothic 1 did all of it first, 23 years ago... granted, by taking inspiration from the Ultima games, but they did it long before the RPGs Asmongold and his viewers are fanboying about. I hate it when people try to give expertise on games they know nothing about and attribute their qualities to games that don't deserve it.

I played a ton of Titan Quest a decade and a half ago. It will be interesting to see what the developers have learned from PoE and D4 and if they were able to apply it to this franchise.

Titan quest was a DLC infested waste of time. It took up limited shop space in-game to push paid dlc down your throat. It's no wonder it sells so poorly.

You should watch Asmons video about graphics. Many of these games are not being made by AAA studios with insane budgets. I’m so sick of people crapping on the visuals and on AA studios. The same people then make fun of massive AAA budgets but crap on every AA title. Gothic and Titan Quest II look promising to me.

It goes downhill afterwards. That’s not the case. Do you men graphical progress has slowed down a lot? That would make much more sense and that is to be expected anyways the better graphics get (you’ll have diminishing returns).

Oddsparks, the first game shown. Is actually pretty fcking good if you like automation games. It has a hint of pikman as well with the combat. Where you have different types of units that do different things and you call them back to you to avoid damage.
It gets crazy once you start automating their own production and you start having sooo fcking many of them in the production lines (they are the ones operating the machinery AND they are are the conveyor belts). Game does not dip one frame.
Highly recommended if you guys enjoyed Statisfactory or factorio.
