    Fair game indeed! Thank you, Tanner. The seller should of course correctly label the leather too. Some listings write the bag is made of “top grain, full grain, real leather and genuine leather” 😂😂😂

      @peachphs ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So true, its confusing. I was eyeing this bag in different colors, the beige color was labelled as cowhide and black color was labelled genuine leather..i cant find any info either on the exact type of leather they use

      I've got the same problem here ... I have just purchased à bag from Vonfrankonia they have written full grain leather togo leather and also geniune leather🤦‍♀️ I hope it is full grain cause 200euro for geniune is too much...
      By any chance do you have any name of sellers of good quality bags ? This will dedinitly help 😢

    Years ago, I bought a wallet after looking for a handmade wallet from a solid maker.
    I recently discovered your work, and was so excited to learn more about leather and quality products, so I checked out your store.
    And lo and behold, it's Pegai! The same company i bought my wallet from. I've had my wallet for over 5 years now, it's holding up great with a nice patina.
    My only complaint? I'm in Canada, and the wallet is a little short for our "tall" money. Would love to have a Canada size option! Congrats on your channel and business

    Its really all about The last sentence. Nothing is wrong with bonded leather or genuine leather as long as customers Know what they buy. For example car leather on surfaces that you don’t touch but want them to look nice don’t have to be the top grain leather if you ask me.

      Nah. Most of the time leather is already corrected to varying degree. See a shiny leather which is not cordovan (horse leather), it is bookbinder/polished/patented/corrected.

  • @JC-it9fs

    I heard in other youtube channel saying that Coach pebble leather/ soft pebble leather (like coach cary bag, cassie 19 etc) use 'split leather', I suppose it's like the 'top grain' leather with chemical added on top, just not sure about it. If its the case, it would be quite disappointing

  • @nataliebutler
    @nataliebutler ปีที่แล้ว

    This get's confusing
    I think 'pebbled leather' the lower quality made to look like leather. But I was looking at an expensive bag where the sales assistant said they had 'brought out the grain'. What does that mean? It looked similar to pebbled.

    I wish brands provided the grain information consistently. I know that genuine leather can also be used as a marketing term to qualify the product is made from leather (not synthetic products like PU) but doesn’t mean the type of grain (or that’s what I read). The buyer doesn’t really know what is referred by just seeing genuine leather if additional information is not provided. I have just started not buying it if I can’t find additional information on the type of grain (this is my rule for online purchases of leather products that I can’t feel, look closely at or smell). Also, some brands may give you info on the type of hide (like cow or sheep) but doesn’tz tell the buyer which grain was used. It can be very confusing.

      Rexine is cotton covered with PV.C.
      In the worse case, genuine leather can be leather that is only fit for cleaning the car covered with PVC

    Hi Tanner, I badly need your help. I’m planning to buy a back pack, I just want to ask you if which leather material is better Bovine Leather or calf skin leather? Hope you could help me with this. Thank you

    • @wilsjane
      @wilsjane หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Both are natural leathers. Calf skin may be slightly lighter to carry around, and ideal if you see your backpack as a fashion accessory. Bovine may be better if you do a lot of hiking and it is dragged around left on rough concrete floors.
      Unfortunately, all leather is about the quality of the original skin and how it is tanned and finished.
      Price can be a guide, as long as you are not paying for a fashion brand. Shopping online can also leave you open to misleading descriptions and poor quality.
      Sorry to sound so negative, but leather is one of the hardest things to shop for, unless you are lucky enough to have a local store with a good reputation..
