    my childhood freaky game experience was endless ocean for the wii. its a marine biology game that encourages open ocean exploration. everything was going good until there was a quest to take a man on a scuba diving excursion. i decided to take him to a cool underwater cave-ish area but all of the sudden the calm music cut out and i got alerted that the man had lost me and i had to find him. i got so scared, i was worried that if i didnt find him he would drown and die, but the atmosphere was absolutely horrifying to child me that i ran to my dad crying and begged him to turn to turn the wii off bc i was too scared to go back into the living room and confront endless ocean

      @bambooshark8756 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      oh my god my scariest experience was ALSO endless ocean 1 except for me it was because i dove in the abyss for the first and the song that plays for that area has like, a lull in the middle, and when it comes back it comes back LOUD, so i thought the music was over and at that exact moment a sperm whale emerged from the gloom at the same time the music came back and i remember screaming and throwing myself over the back of the couch ! i made a friend come over and play the rest of the level while i hid. i still do not like sperm whales to this day as a result.

      OH MY GOD. endless ocean was so fucking scary sometimes. I remember in the story mode I like went up for air in the underwater castle and I couldnt figure out how to continue the mission so I was like getting lost in the castle being all sad

      holy shit i was also terrified of that game as a kid. for some reason i never actually figured out how to move around i just let it take me where it would but this meant i never surfaced for air so i would just lose when i ran out. that was scary to me because no matter how hard i tried my scuba guy would inevitably drown and i would get sent to the boat again and i thought each time that happened they had to get a new ocean researcher. like there was an endless line of them to replace the ones i kept killing

    im late but there are four distinct childhood scary game experiences i have which you may like to know of
    1) the colours inverting on simpsons cartoon studio
    2) the splash screen of the kid staring at you with his tongue stuck out in theme park world
    3) a shareware game called hunchback '96 having an all caps title screen at an intimidating angle. is hilarious to me now because that screen just says "HUNCH".
    4) bad toys 3d, a shareware wolf3d clone with no music and laughing constantly smiling enemies that you frequently hear but dont see. was the star of its own nightmare once where the computer kept turning itself on after i ran it, only for it to go to the "safe to turn off your computer" screen before counting down to 0 and exploding

    Space Channel 5 is one of the first games I remember growing up, and still one of my favorites. I was like Scorpy in that I was spooked by scale in game. There are a lot of very large bosses with very stilted animations that really wigged me out. The first boss that had kidnapped schoolchildren (it had the cheerful Morolian voiceover and the boss theme would go from waltzy to edm with a haunting chorus between phases) and Blank's brainwashing TV (his voice creeped me out) stand out as two that are still eerie to me. That entire game has weird vibes. I love it
    Also, I would play Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town all the time, and one time I accidentally killed one of my chicks. I didn't know the ENTIRE TOWN would call me into the church to berate me for abusing animals. I sobbed so hard and ran to my mom. Really messed up thing to put in a kid's game.

      yeah harvest moon characters seem kinda toxic. they berate you and eventually start giving you the silent treatment for using golden fences, which if they were just cosmetic and didn't do anything then that'd be fair, but they literally never break.
