    A Quick backgrounding on The Weeknd:
    He grew up in Ontario, Canada with a rough family life. When he was 17, he ran away from home and lived with friends. During this time he was doing drugs, going to parties, doing things with girls, etc. He wanted too do rap but realized that his singing voice is better. He then released 3 EPs House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence. He posted them on TH-cam and later combined them and created his first album Trilogy. He talks about his life struggles with partying, sex, drugs, etc. He then started getting more popular. Started singing with Drake, which made him have an even larger following. Anyways, since then he has made a couple of different albums. You can really tell the progression he has made when you listen to his earlier stuff and then listen to his newer stuff. Anyways I hope this helps!

      The time line is off Trilogy is not really his first album that was the compilation of all three mixtapes you're right with three songs added to give 30 songs but when Trilogy came out he was already doing stuff with Drake as a matter of fact there's a song off of Trilogy with Drake and before he ever released his first studio album he gave Drake basically several songs that was supposed to be on House of balloons and Drake put them on take care Drake wanted to sign him but the weeknd wanted to go a different direction and wanted to be on his own so The Weeknd signed with Republic a joint venture given us XO Republic. So then he released Kiss Land which was his Studio debut which ironically a lot of us XO fans love but not one song off of that album charted on the Hot 100 he then started doing more songs in the background leading up to Beauty behind the madness like king of the fall trust issues which was a remix of a Drake song Drunk in Love and often. So then his career took a huge leap when he collaborated with Ariana Grande and earned his first top 10 hit With Love Me Harder then he scored his second top ten hit with earned it from Fifty Shades of Grey witch he also put on Beauty behind the madness which that album gave us two of his six number one hits with the Hills and I can't feel my face. So ever since no song charted on Kiss Land he's went on the chart 88 of his 91 song on hot 100 remarkably only five songs since the release of Kiss Land have not charted he turn into one biggest stars in music with 6 number one hits 14 top 10 hits 44 top 40 hits 4 number one albums with Beauty behind the madness, Starboy, my dear melancholy, after hours , and 3 albums that reached the number two spot with his debut album Kiss Land his Greatest Hit album the highlights and his current album that just released on January 7th Dawn FM and compilation of his three mixtapes Trilogy witch reached number 4 xo intel we od

    The way I interpret the whole “I pray when I look inside the mirror and see someone I love” is that he sees what he’s turning into due to his mistakes and his addiction, he talks about a lot of things in his album.
    Also the “I take half a Xan and I still stay awake” is a sort of shout out to Drakes line in Sicko Mode where he says “I take half a Xan 13 hours till I land, had me out like a light” so it’s sort of like The Weeknd is showing the difference in drug use between the two.

    • @lucasbrown3525
      @lucasbrown3525 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Elaborating on the mirror bit, I think he is also reflecting on how his actions are affecting his loved ones hence the him mentioning “someone I love.” As for the xan part, half a Xanax would make most people sleepy but he says that he can still stay awake after taking it which shows that because of his drug abuse, he has built up a resistance to them. Not saying any of your analysis was wrong, just wanted to add my own take on it.

    The Weeknd is definitely in my top 5, so happy you reacted to him. I'd recommend starting from the beginning with The Weeknd, he tells his story and shows his transformations in his later albums. I don't want to spoil it but his appearance is part of the story he's trying to tell. He's so raw and touches on a lot of serious subjects. In my head he's still underrated! XO
    He's saying, "I ended up in the back of a flashing-car" I'm not 100% but I think he's talking about a cop car. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

    If you look at his face from the start of the video he's talking about get all these drugs back out but the idea of it is hurting him because instead of using the drugs recreationally like he used to in the past, he's using them now as a coping mechanism for the pain he's feeling from how his life has gone to shit. When the camera zooms in, up, and around him that first time he's saying "I've been sober for a year now it's time for me to go back to my old ways, don't you cry for me thought I'd be a better man but I lied to me and to you." So he's accepting he's been putting up a front in his relationship and life. At one point he says he'd choose Vegas if they offered Heaven's Gate which is a callback to an older song of his. He did say he ended up in the back of a flashing car, both this song and Heartless are right in the middle of the album and it's kinda like those two songs are him peaking on the drugs he talks about at the beginning of the song "I feel everything from my body to my soul." I hope this helps.

    from a psychology standpoint, the weeknd is a VERY fascinating artist (alongside Billie Eilish in my opinion). the 'characters' the weeknd (Abel) portrays in his music and music videos, the constant symbolism and the recurring themes of going back to 'old ways' and being involved with drugs to numb the pain is both heartbreaking and fascinating as Abel often (if not always) bases his music on his own experiences.
    his 'after hours' era (2019-2021) was very consistent with imagery- his persona with the bloody nose/beat up face, his mannerisms/acting and his attire. I recommend listening to certain tracks from this album (which are heavily influenced by the 80's sounds. 'snowchild' is definitely one that is more lyric-heavy and more blatantly personal, blinding lights' may be one you've heard on the radio, 'heartless', 'after hours' (which is a song + short film), 'save your tears' and 'hardest to love'.

His album After Hours is about a character that tries to escape heartbreak and goes on a wild drug-fueled road trip to Vegas and as the album goes on he gets further and further down the black hole and ends up dying by the end of the album. THis is part of a trilogy of albums and his character is revisited in his new album DawnFM where he has died and is now in Purgatory trying to wortk his way through hsi regrets so he can get to heaven

    Definitely didn’t end up in a good place. At the end of the After Hours concept album in which this song is in, he actually dies in the final track.
    He released the following concept album that is directly tied to After Hours called Dawn FM a few weeks ago in which he is in purgatory looking back on the regrets of his life and making peace with everything to finally make it to the after life which will be the next album. Jim Carrey is a main character in the album and the final track “phantom regret by Jim” is one of the most profound beautiful pieces of work I’ve heard that really had me evaluating my own life. Please react to the album or at the very least the final track “phantom regret by jim”. The Weeknd and jim wrote it. Love your approach- can’t wait to see more weeknd videos!!!

    Please react to "Frankie Teardrop" - by Suicide
    That song came out in 1980 I believe or 1979 but that song still scares me listening to it at night and I think it's based on a newspaper article when the singer was reading correct me if I'm wrong anybody. Chills through my spine with Frankie Teardrop! 😱

    I've been a diehard fan of Abe since HOB, and it's because I feel him and I lived thorugh such similars lives and evolved the same time. Addiction the same time, toxicity at the same time, sobriety the same time. He is my favorite artist EVER because of the truth he is constantly laying bare to his own mind. The darkness. But faith is my favorite song from After Hours, because the struggle of trying not to revert and regress back to the bad behaviors. Plus, "I take half a xan and I still stay awake" BEST DRAKE DISS in one line. And I take the Bruno Mars comparison as a diss. Abe is a billion times better.

    Also you absolutely NAILED IT. There are two sides of him. Abe is almost the bad part of him, the greedy and selfish one. While The Weeknd is proud of himself. The one who steers him in the right direction.

    • @Miko._Official

      The Weeknd is the bad one, Abel is the good one.
      The Weeknd was promoting/teasing his upcoming album that time named "After Hours". which talks about his sins, pain, regrets, long story short, he's pertaining to hell. the album dropped on 2020.
      two years later, he released "Dawn FM". a conceptual album that primarily talks about the lessons that he learned (character development) and the pain, guilt and shame that he has experienced. long story short, it is purgatory and it is about his self reflection, self realization, self forgiveness, and about finding God.
      and lastly, this year, 2024, he's been teasing about the last album which will be the last part of his trilogy. based on his ig stories/posts, the upcoming album is about the after life, rebirth or paradise or (heaven), where he will be resurrected as a new being because he found God.
      i also think his trilogy is based on "The Divine Comedy" by Dante Alighieri, which tells a story about a character named "Dante" and his journey from hell to purgatory and to paradise. i think in The Weeknd's upcoming trilogy, After Hours is hell, Dawn FM is purgatory, and the upcoming album which is the last installment of the trilogy, will be heaven or paradise. (he teased this on his ig post).
      those were just my theories as a fan that are based on his teasers, and here are some facts. "The Weeknd" is just a character that Abel (The Weeknd's real name) portrays. it's a character that he created to connect with people. The Weeknd is not Abel. it's just a character.
      he said in an interview that the upcoming album will be his last album as "The Weeknd". he said that he'll still make songs, but as Abel, not as The Weeknd. the last album will be his last hurrah as The Weeknd.
      i hope this somehow gave answers to your questions and confusions. have a good day, and God bless us all! 🙏✨

    Hey man. Love the videos you do, and I like how even if you don't elaborate fully on what you're hearing, I can tell you understand the lyricism to a song and the multiple meanings behind it. King ISO just dropped a new album; he's one of my favourite artists. Maybe not PG-friendly enough for the channel, but he also did an album back in 2016 called 'Autophobia,' and I was wondering if you could maybe listen to the SONG called 'Autophobia' by him? That or 'Don't Let Go.' Both from the same album. Extremely curious to see your thoughts on them, as they both deal with mental health and personally things that I'm currently relating to.
    Thanks for the entertainment and mental relief;
    Winter

    You should listen to “Bad Guy” by Eminem. I think it’d be cool for you to listen to it since you’ve listened to Stan because it’s basically Stan Pt. 2. The last verse is super emotional but I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll leave it at that. But I’ve stumbled across your videos and they are AWESOME :)
