    Heath Ledger's performance was absolutely HYPNOTIC. We would catch ourselves holding our breath whenever he was on screen, he kept us on the edge of our seats for the entirety of the ride. And what a ride this was... Mind blown and speechless, can't wait to finish the trilogy! Let us know what other films we should cover on this channel! Much love and positivity to all! - Gabi and Caley

      THANK YOU. Heath was a total professional on set. He did some method acting but everyone said he was a joy to work with, super respectable, and a little quiet. It bothers me so much that people think this role made him crazy. His death was a tragedy that had nothing to do with this incredible performance.

    • @trembledust6819

      Nicholson actually did say when asked about Heath Ledger's death that "he warned him" but there was never to my knowledge any follow up to what exactly Nicholson meant when he said that. Never confirmed he spoke to Ledger about the role etc. It seems as though people just ran with that one quote and made it seem like Nicholson directly warned Ledger about playing the Joker. Maybe he did maybe he didn't. Who knows. Plus the vid of him saying when asked is a bit creepy as he is smoking a cig when asked, asked whoever asked the question to repeat it then said what he said and took another drag of his cig while a few ppl laughed in the background. smh.
      Regardless Ledger did a fantastic job in the role imo. RIP.

  • @riptidepictures8105

    I think there’s an unhealthy perception that Heath’s death was caused by delving deep into this role. Everybody on set of the movie said that he was able to snap in and out of character on a dime, Michael Jai White said he would go from being in character to cracking jokes and telling stories the second that the cameras stopped filming. Christopher Nolan said Heath was so invested in the process of film production that he would ride in the cars that filmed the street scenes - even though Heath was never in those shots and had no intention of being in them. He just had a love for film making. Heath’s parents said that their last phone call with him ended with them warning him not to mix prescription medications to treat his stomach ache, to which he said he’d be fine and they should relax. He would overdose just a few days later, but likely due to not being well informed on the drugs he was taking to treat his stomach pains.

    • @riptidepictures8105
      @riptidepictures8105 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      There’s a heartbreaking statement Chris put out after Heath’s death recounting the times that Heath would stay on set long after he was scheduled to leave just to watch how movies are made. Michael Jai White recounted something similar about Heath wanting to be in the room in full Joker wardrobe and make up for their scenes even though their coverage was shot separately, meaning Heath would get in full costume even when he knew he wouldn’t be filmed on those days. He would do so because it would provoke a better performance from the other actors when they could physically see the Joker Vs pretending he was there

    • @Noxofspades-lh7bj
      @Noxofspades-lh7bj ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Yeah, I'm really tired of those rumours how his death was "connected to the joker" and how he went crazy because of the role.
      And Heath was so humble as well. Always asking ppl how he was doing. He'd even ask the supportive cast, about what they thought about his voice.
      Heath had anxiety about every role, doubting himself. But luckily he always stuck with them. I loved hearing how he was behind the scenes, especially for the Dark Knight and Brokeback mountain. He also method acted when it came to that role. He locked himself in his room, to ger into the psyche of his character. He came up with every little movement, surprising and impressing the cast. He was so humble there as well, asking ppl there how he was doing. And he himself got emotional when he heard how his acting was making the crew cry. He also made a little change on set that basically showed a quiet way of his character showing how he loved Jake's character. He acted like a little kid as he excitedly told the script writer, Diana, "i have a surprise for you!" She saw him as a son and thought him being this excited was so cute. And she cried when she saw what he did. It was really sweet. And that change made it into the movie. I cried seeing the change too cuz it was also heartbreaking, and it makes me more emotional to know that was Heath's idea.
      I saw his interviews and his documentary: i am heath ledger. He seemed like a geninue, down to earth person. It makes me more upset how his dreams of being a film director was never fulfilled😢

    • @aaronbeatdown
      @aaronbeatdown ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I feel like the narrative takes away from his performance as well. People played the Joker before and since and those people are fine. His performance wasn't because the Joker is some mythical role that only few can handle as it warps your mind. It was because Heath Ledger was a phenomenal actor who did intensely dive into the character as he did all of his characters. It's easy to see his ability in some of his early movies like The Patriot or A Knight's Tale, which honestly only works because of his ability to straddle the line between camp and seriousness in that role.

    • @Noxofspades-lh7bj
      @Noxofspades-lh7bj ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@aaronbeatdown yeah, it's pretty insulting that ppl are bascially saying "he was too fragile to handle method acting. And was so mentally unstable that he couldn't do his acting role properly." Like come on! And yeah! Other movies have already displayed his acting abilities before. And he method acted before, especially for brokeback mountain.
      Specifically monster's ball, which got him the brokeback mountain role. And Nolan chose Heath because of Brokeback mountain. That role brought out the best of his abilities when it comes to subtle, quiet roles. Like damn.
      It's also insulting that ppl gave so much hate when he was casted. It's one thing to have doubts cuz Heath never played a villain before. And the attachment to jack Nicholson's joker. But ugh, the petition to stop him from getting the role and the disgusting things that were said about him cuz he played " a gay cowboy" was ridiculous.Especially cuz you can tell everyone who had this complaint didn't watch the movie. So embarrassing and remembering that nonsense is hatecrime on my braincells.

      @@Noxofspades-lh7bj What's funny is that he wasn't even method acting. He spent a lot of time nailing the look he wanted for the character, did some deep character study and had a journal for it. I've heard Michael B. Jordan talk about the exact same process getting ready for either Black Panther or Creed (I can't remember which). As stated above, he was joking and playful with everyone on set. Michael Jai White talked about people wanting to give him a wide berth for the character and said that Heath was the one that would engage them in a conversation. Said Heath was just having fun playing and that the set was probably one of the most relaxed sets he's worked on.

    Aaron Eckhart's performance as Harvey Dent is truly impressive acting. -------- His descent from hero to villain is intense. ------ To where he kills the driver so they all have an equal chance at death. --------- For Two-face, "It's not about what I want, it's about what's fair!". ------- "You thought we could be decent men in an indecent time! @lethaldose2000. It shows how corrupted Dent becomes. He becomes obsessed with revenge. Batman gets heads [live] on his coin flip and Dent shoots him anyway. Which means, he was going to shoot the kid no matter the result of the coin flip to “punish” Gordon. Edit: Plus, Dent gets a tails [die] on the flip to determine his own fate, and he doesn’t shoot himself.

    58:48 I don't think Heath Ledger kill3d himself, I think he took sleeping pills because he had problems sleeping due to jet lag, if I remember correctly, but he mixed it with other medication he had been prescribed for other problems. He thought it would be okay, but it was a bad mix and he sadly died. People painted his death as if it was a consequence of playing the joker and getting into the character, but I think friends and family denied it. A few months ago I saw a clip from an interview with the actor who played one of the mobsters, the black guy, and he said that the whole thing about Ledger being depressed due to playing a dark character was a myth, he said that Ledger was very happy during filming. He was also doing a completely different movie (after this one) when he died, that he sadly didn't get to finish. So it seems that rumour about his depression and suicid3 was just speculation that became popular simply because it added interest to his performance.b

      @@mantism.d.8363 Heath got a chest cold while filming dr Parnassus. He got perscribed many meds. And one day, he called his sister Kate about how frustrated and nervous he was about his meeting with Spielberg the next morning. He said he'll take sleeping pills. She warned that was probably not a good idea. He said he'd be fine. Like many, he thought prescribed drugs couldn't be that dangerous. It's really sad. I watched his dad's interview talking about the death and about the family's reaction. Heartbreaking stuff. And i cried A LOT when they went into more detail about his death in his documentary: I am Heath Ledger.
      Heath was not only a great actor, an aspiring film director but he was such a dope person. Mature, down to earth. One of the only celebrities i geninuely like as a person, not just their talent.

    The hospital was actually a four-story former Brach's candy factory that was already scheduled for demolition, so it was perfect for the job 👌 fun fact about the hospital explosion is that it was never in the original script, it was Neil Corbould ( the special effects supervisor) that believed it could be done and suggested it too Nolan, who loved the idea so much that he added it to the script.
    The reaction by Heath and the detonater was also improvised, because he wasn't aware that there was a delay in the explosion, so he just reacted in the moment 👌 man was a genius, equally uncomfortable to watch and impossible to look away from.

    • @marcobressi3315
      @marcobressi3315 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Sadly this isn’t entirely true. I am the biggest Ledger fan every and thought the scene was improvised for years but it’s not. It’s one of the biggest movie myths. Ledger and the production crew all knew their was gonna be a delay in the explosion. It was put there to control the scene just in case someone messed up. Ledger did rehearse the walk a bunch of times before they destroyed the building. The reaction to the delay is all him tho! He was told to do whatever he felt Joker would do if the explosions suddenly stopped. He’s my favorite actor of all time and I really wish that the delay wasn’t supposed to happen but it was. Their are plenty of other improvised scenes in the movie that he did do, he made this movie what it is. An absolute masterpiece. We’ll never see another Joker like him, he’s the Clown Prince of Crime always!!

    26:30 to answer the martial arts, if you remember in Batman Begins, Bruce trained in Ninjitsu, BUT that's not the actual style, it's actually KFM a mixed style of BJJ, Jeet Kune Do, Kali and other stuff. 36:47 The Joker didn't know it was Bruce Wayne, he wanted to see if Batman cared for anyone, if he had a weakness. Why he turned everyone on Coleman Reese, it added to the chaos and he really didn't want to know who Batman was, he know he wouldn't unmask, he just wanted more chaos, 'for them to eat each other'. He know once Rachel was gone, he was hoping it would push Batman over the edge, remove his heroic shroud. That's why he switched addresses, he wanted Harvey and Batman to lose it (the two heroes), but only Harvey did.

    Bruce's penthouse is the ground-level lobby of a hotel in Chicago; there's green screens outside of all the windows so they could put the Chicago skyline in later.
    The interrogation scene is the first scene Christian and Heath did together, Christian couldn't stop laughing in between takes because he was in awe of what Heath was doing. Also, both of them being method actors, Heath told Christian "I don't want to fake this, just hit me as hard as you can."

    One of the best thing about The Dark Knight's opening heist sequence that a lot of people tend to miss is the fact that NONE of the grenades were real grenades. They would've just harmlessly blown smoke just like the one the Joker puts into the Bank Manager's mouth. So nobody in the bank was ever actually in danger -- they put a grenade in everybody's hands and pulled the pins - if a person let go of one, the grenade would have detonated... and it would be a harmless smoke grenade. The only people who were actually killed were the other bank robbers... and the Bank Manager only got shot because he was shooting at them.

    At 44:39, he doesn't say "it's bear", he said "It's fair."
    He uses this line specifically for Harvey because that's what mattered so much to Harvey when he did his job. That's why he's a DA, his very character is oddly enough an ongoing theme throughout the movie(and even through the trilogy I believe, don't quote me on that though) in a very interesting way.
    People broke the rules and they didn't get repercussions. Gordon would be working by himself if he didn't work with cops with shady and illegal. Harvey addresses him on this multiple times. "Gordon, I don't like that you've got that you've got your own special unit, and I don't like that it's full of cops I investigated at Internal Affairs.", "I almost had your rookie cold on a racketeering beat.", "If you stood up against corruption instead of doing your deal with the devil."
    But look at Harvey:
    He tried to do everything the right and just way. Even challenged the mayor on cleaning Gotham's streets(which still ticked me off. What's wrong with getting 18 months of clean streets, Gotham can barely get 10 minutes.), he lost his wife and half his identity. And so he takes on a name that was given to him long ago by crooked cops at IA(oh the irony), a time when he was just doing his job FAIRLY.
    He is the living proof.
    In this world, you really can't be decent men in an indecent time.
    He played by rules that never existed in this city.

    Even just the semi truck flip was insane. To get permission from the city to do it, Nolan had to prove he could do it in a parking lot on the first try. Because those are real buildings on either side of it (banks, actually). Then he had to hit the mark exactly, because activating the piston at the wrong spot could rupture a sewer line or damage an underground vault (again, banks). Finally they even had a stunt driver inside the whole time. All that just for this one scene.

    44:38 Even when Joker says he doesn't have any plan, he planned his every action to the minute details. When Joker's making Harvey point gun at him, if you look closely, Joker has his finger pressing the trigger that means even if Harvey had tried to shoot Joker, the gun wouldn't have fired at all. Joker just nudged Harvey towards evil and made him feel like it was Harvey himself deciding to do so. Talk about Character Development ❤‍🔥. Rest in Peace, Heath Ledger.
