The buckets certainly pack down, but we had to be a little careful to ensure they don’t tip over. They worked for sure, but would maybe find something with a tad more structure.

What is the battery for? It heats the water? Or is propane the only heat source?

It operates the unit itself, from powering the digital screen, 12 volt water pump, etc. The Propane is the fuel source for heating the water.

Will the pump fit the opening of a typical 5 gallon water jug like the type you get at walmart??

As long as it has at least a 2 1/4" opening you should be just fine 😉 👍
