My idea is for Cena to chase the IC title and #17. Enters the rumble and fails, enters elimination chamber and fails, challenges for the IC title at Mania and fails, King of the Ring fails, MITB fails. But he finally challenges for #17, but the winner of MITB cashes in on him, and his last feud is with that guy. Has a great final year, has good feuds, puts over new stars, and possibly breaks records.

y'know what would be fun? Somehow get the HW championship vacated at that point, then Cena vs Orton for the vacant belt. Cena wins, he breaks the record. Orton wins, he ties Cena and Flair. Obviously you would need the the stars aligning for this to even happen, and will have the unfortunate downside of whoever was champion at that point being out of action for a whole Wrestlemania.

This is speculation but I check my calender and December 27, 2025 lands on a Saturday. What if for the first time since 2020 we have a December PLE in Boston where the main event will be John Cena's final match.

He can fight Grayson Waller,Theory, and other young talent while showing them respect at the ending of those matches.While PLEs or PPV go by, He fails to win Royal Rumble but somehow wins Elimination Chamber and he challenges for #17. He wins the Championship and holds it until Summerslam. During the WWE Championship run he can face CM Punk,Randy,AJ, Jey Uso, Cody, and everyone else. And the last 6 months of his career he can win and lose matches and have fun with whatever he would like to do. And ends his career in December probably on Smackdown, the same show he debuted on, winning or losing that final match doesn’t matter, but he takes his wristbands off and leaves it in the ring, and leaves the ring bowing down as he leaves as a performer for the final time.

He could run it back with Orton, Punk, Rock, Carlito, Roman, Seth, KO, Sami and Rey. He could work with the younger guys. IMO , Cena should face Punk at MITB to run it back one more time as a callback. As you have suggested @sooplex , a heel run would be legendary. I think he should face Rhodes at Mania for #17 and relinquish it the week after. The heel run comes in the summer after MITB when he chases the IC title. That is when he starts putting over starts like Bron/Ilja and Gunther. And his retirment match will be against Orton. He could also appear at raw weekly and do an open-challenge routine to face guys like miz- owens- zayn etccc in 10 minute matches before his eventual heel turn.

Considering Kurt Angle has been retired for 6 years. I'd rule Angle vs Cena out. Plus, the match wouldn't be any good given the state of Kurt's body last time he wrestled. As an enforcer I agree but getting back in the ring is off the table as Kurt looks like he can barely move with all the hip and neck surgeries and he was already slower and struggling towards his retirement back in 2019

Here's my pitch. Cena gets past the "ring rust" by taking on mid card guys while CM Punk and Drew McIntyre figure out their issues. Then move Punk on to Seth Rollins feud. Cena fights Punk, then goes on to fight Randy Orton (who should be champ at the time), take that title and drop it to R Truth in his retirement match. Add filler in between all the gaps....... Hot take, R Truth is the greatest wrestler to not be WWE champion.
