I packed for 7 days in an underseat bag 2 years ago. I packed 3 changes of clothes and washed half thru the trip. Granted It was a mountain hiking trip so no fancy clothes needed. As a larger lady I have larger clothes so thats also a consideration when packing. I love my under seat bag.
Wow, you did fit a lot in that bag! I purchased the very same and found it so convenient. Fit perfectly under a Southwest window seat. I was able to pack, 2 outfits, shoes, sweater, liquids bag, kindle, iPad, small empty purse, makeup bag, electronics cords, wipes, sanitizer, medication , snacks and water bottle and the contents of my purse in the outer pocket. It holds a lot! Great tips for minimalist packing Laurie.
Well, we finally got to Finland after over 3 years of cancelling all the plans I made. Northern lights, swimming in frozen sea and walking on solid sea ice. Just lots of fun. Loved every minute of it! Flying was super and all your wonderful hacks over the years helped out a lot.
Just received the rolling under the seat bag you recommend here. Game changer!!! OMG! Didn't think there was any way this would work for a month taking trains around Switzerland and Austria this summer. Almost put it back in the Amazon box to return. I used this little suitcase, the packing cubes you recommend that squish down, and the black and white striped backpack. I was a pro photographer but not taking my gear since I've been going on TH-cam and have learned how to get that quality out of my iPhone 14 Pro. :) 8 dresses, 4 workout/hiking (leggings, tops, bras), 8 pairs of socks, toiletries, 2 sweaters, pareo to cover my shoulders and wrap around as a swimsuit coverup, swimsuit, long sleeve bamboo hoodie to layer, 1 pair sandals, 1 pair white tennis shoes to go with dresses. Clothes washing strips to do laundry. I can't believe I'm going for a whole month in these 2 little bags! Now I have to go unpack all this and get back to cleaning house. LOL Laurie, I couldn't have done this without your guidance! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! And my husband thanks you since he won't have to carry my bag along with his as we run to catch our trains. Mahalo!
Oh my word I am just shocked! I cannot believe you packed that many outfits! What shoes do you like for the dresses? My feet feel huge with white sneakers.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie LOL. I have a pair of Carrumas that are sleeker than a running shoe. I love the look of a crisp white tennis shoe on anyone with a little sundress. Taking a pair of white Clark’s sandals too. I would just do the sandals but I’ll end up with foot problems not changing out my shoes. Wearing my running shoes on the planes. 😝. I only wear sundresses even at home. I like Billabong, Quicksilver and other surf shop brands because they make little dresses that are cooler when it’s hot out. And they’re all thin so I can wash in the sink, hang to dry. Leggings are all Lululemon so they can be washed out too I’ll use the hotels’ hair dryers so not packing that. I’m taking the True Earth laundry detergent strips so I don’t have to deal with liquid. And they’re small. Using the contact case trick for my Vit A and C serums and cream deodorant. I would love to see an video on traveling with little sundresses. I couldn’t find one anywhere on TH-cam when making my packing list. They take up way less space than shorts and tops. I’m 60 but still look to the 20 something’s for some of my fashion cues. Tennis shoes with sundresses are the bomb! Hard to find a more comfortable outfit. 😝.
Lay out your clothing you intend to take, and at this stage you can have all your options laid out, and then select your capsule wardrobe. This has helped me. I generally take twice as many tops as I do bottoms. But I could get by with fewer bottoms, like 3/1. And remember that just because you are allowed 3.4oz, doesn't mean you have to take 3.4 oz! I've found containers that hold as little as .5oz and for some liquids, that's all I need!. I found out that 3.4 oz of shampoo and 3.4 oz of conditioner will last me 2 months - mind blown!
Hi, I have been enjoying your video a lot. I have traveled with just an underseater like yours to China in summer for 2 weeks. I am a petite person and I only wear simple type of clothes. All of your ideas are great but I have some ideas that you might like. It is to bring sheet masks that are very thin, usually comes in a thin ziplock like package. Use them instead of toner, That way I don't have to put them in liquid bag, and I can just slide in the side pocket or between clothes without adding bulk. And days go by, you have more space in your bag, because they are disposable. Another tip is to wear silk materials. If you have 3 silk t shirts, all combined and role them, instead of roll them individually, you can save a lot of space in the bag. Also silk material can dress up or down. And it dries quickly when you wash them. I only use cubes for sweaters of anything puffy and really stuff them in the cube. Let me know what you think, looking forward to more videos!
I love who you are ! You don’t assume everyone is going to do exactly what you say, you are so gracious and generous that you are just sharing . I like that. Thank you 😊 ( oh, and I have just watch maybe 20 of your vids in the last 3 days . You don’t know me but you have a new family member, my name is Kelly 🌹💁♀️
Oh.. and how heavy was this wheeled bag? ( when pulling a personal and a carryon, the two can get pretty heavy to pull on those carpeted areas and cobblestones. ) Any clue of the weight of this empty?
I have used my daughter's old lunch bag that attaches to backpacks as my toiletry bag. It isn't so weird to see an adult with a kid walking through an airport with a mini mouse bag haha. But lunch bags can be cheaper than toiletry bags and they attach well, They also have that lining so if something spills it doesn't leak through as easily
I am so impressed your travel tips. A recent widow now going to begin solo travel, and your videos are teaching me how I can do this. Additionally, you have a dear personality. I feel like you are my friend. Thank you, Laurie.
Hi Laurie! I am a new commercial pilot's wife. He's retired Air Force, so while I'm not new to the flying world, I am to the non rev world. I love your videos and am using them to get up to back up to speed on traveling light. Thank you for all of your helpful information and links to products. We are very excited about this new chapter in our lives! -Laurie
Thank you and your husband for your service! Our youngest of 3 sons is a 29 yo tech sgt. And is going on yr 11. It’s hard trying to get together for family vacations and holidays so I know what toll it takes on a family, plus all the moves, not including deployments or tdy’s. Enjoy your new civy life!
I'm good at packing light for trips but I always like to see if I can learn something new from your videos. I also put things inside of shoes to keep them safe and take advantage of that space.
Love your channel! It’s so helpful and I always learn something from you even though I have been traveling for many, many years and pride myself on packing light. My husband and I have not checked luggage in forever, whether we travel domestic or international, and we bought this bag that you are demonstrating today a few years ago and use it exclusively for domestic travel no matter how many days we are traveling. It’s an amazing piece of luggage and I highly recommend it! It holds SO much if you pack correctly and has fit perfectly under every seat on a flight I have taken. I will use this as my personal item for an upcoming international flight as it will hold everything I need access to in flight including a small handbag and fit under the seat and my small carry on goes in the overhead. This bag easily slides over the handle of my carry on so my hands are free. Thank you for sharing your experience using it with us.
Laurie, I have watched all of your videos. You are the only person I have seen who suggests that you don’t have to pack shoes together. Best tip ever. My biggest issue is that I have so many medications and skin issues. I have to pack toiletries that are prescription or online purchases. I do decant them, but we are going to Europe for 3 weeks and I have to keep some meds in original containers which takes up so much space! I’m a carry on only girl these days thanks to you!
We are going to Mexico in April and I was worried about my RX too. After some thought I came up w the little plastic pill baggies they sell in the pharmacy. They are aprox 2”x 2”. And they are super cheap. I asked the pharmacist if I could bring those in and have the stickers they put around the bottles reprinted in Spanish and stuck onto a baggie for each RX. They said they could do that 🎉 the only thing is is that they have to be the ones to put the stickers on. That was w Walmart. My MIL’s pharmacist (A small locally owned pharmacy) said they would do this too but they wanted her to bring in her pills and they would put the stickers on and put the amount of pills she would need for the trip in the baggies for her. Not sure what that accomplishes but hey, they’ll do it and it’ll save space in her suitcase. Hope this helps you too. I will be trading 6 RX bottles for 6 tiny baggies!🎉
You could probably do some creams like this too as long as they were on the thicker side and you made double sure the baggie was closed and you put all your little baggies maybe in a snack or sandwich sized baggie to protect against accidental leaks. Maybe, possibly??🤷♀️
Our pharmacy offers (for free) to put prescription meds in packets. I have AM and PM packets and they fold so compact. The drugs are listed on back of each packet. Saves so much room, and no trying to remember if I took all of my medications.
Hi Laurie. I have followed you for years and as a frequent overseas traveler I have used so many of your tips. However in the last year in four different trips the airlines have started weighing carry on bags and are not allowing more than 7 kg (15.42lbs). That is really hard to do if you have electronics that’s must go in carry ons. It means I have gone to a backpack only for a carry on because most small bags add too much to the weight. Any tips you may have would be really appreciated. It is meaning that I am checking a bag more often so a warning to fellow travelers that this has started happening. These have all been non US airlines and has only been a problem in the last year. The US airlines have not done this yet but I suspect it is only a matter of time. Thanks for your inspiration and for your awesome advice. I am 74 years old and still heading out regularly.
Love this video! I pack minimally as well, so I love to see what others bring. There's so much knowledge to share - we can all help each other. I have 1 oz and smaller bottles. I bring enough shampoo to wash my hair twice a week, a sliver of solid soap, a tiny tube of toothpaste, and cut my floss into the number of days I need - I put them into a tiny little ziploc bag. It gets easier to minimize once you've changed your mindset. I'm going to the Grand Canyon this summer, and it will be a different kind of trip to pack for. Planning (and watching your videos) is part of the fun!
I’m so glad I found someone who loves to travel and dresses like I do! Thank you for great advice and the fashion/ brand tips. My goal is not not overpack for my next overseas trip!
Hi Laurie! I just discovered your channel and I’m loving your tips and your energy! I have found SO MANY great travel bags and accessories because of you. I have always considered myself a pretty decent packer but I was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis so I’m trying to up my game and lighten my load to save my poor back. This video is very close to how I pack. I call it Tetris-Ing (like the game) my bag.😂 The way I do it is to pack in layers. So you put as many of your biggest items you can in the bottom, fill the gaps on the sides with the medium, then small, then tiny until you have an even layer, then repeat until full. It won’t look as pretty and organized but you can fit a lot that way. One tip I can add is that in the winter you can pack puffy coats last and use the suitcase as a compression bag of sorts to smush it down and really secure your items. Oh!! And my absolute favorite hack! Wrap your necklaces in Saran Wrap for compact, no tangle storage.
Hi Laurie! I'm a new passenger here :) I have been bingeing your videos in preparation for a solo trip from Canada to Europe with my 4-yr old in April. I'm a nervous traveler, especially alone with a toddler! Watching your videos helps me to prepare, which will hopefully lead to a calmer trip :) thank you!
Very exciting. A small tip someone gave me when I flew with my toddler, bring very small wrapped new toys for them. Don’t let your child know you have them so random times through the flight they can unwrap a new toy that should keep there attention for awhile. This was a big hit for my daughter and helped tremendously. And if something like a Barbie doll we’re in a box, I took them out of box before wrapping to save room and trash later on.
Hi Laurie! I recently took 2 trips with only my under seat bag (the Lovevook bag you recommended). Both trips were for 5 days! It can be done when you plan coordinating outfits. I found putting my Liquids bag on the very top made going through security a snap! And it's great to skip the check in lines! Love your videos! Keep em coming! 😀
I've recently discovered your channel, it's so helpful! I'm planning a 2 month Europe trip with one backpack only (8kgs is the max for the airlines I'll be flying), so all of these tips and tricks are useful! The other tip I've heard recently is to actually weigh each of the items you're planning on taking, I was so surprised at how much some of the items I'd planned to take weigh, they'll be swapped out for something else!
I've found that salad dressing jars for lunch boxes ( 1 oz.) are more secure than many travel containers. I pack jewelry in old prescription bottles. Keep the videos coming!
I use them to keep coconut oil in for makeup removal. Super easy to refill and very squeezable. I did find similar yet bigger containers for travel on Amazon, and they work just as well for shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc.
I always save the smaller sample jars/containers from makeup counter samples or gifts at the department store to decant liquid make up and face creams for travel. Also, for travel in countries (Europe!) where you are rarely given washcloths I take an old washcloth and cut it into 4 squares- I use them and leave behind as I travel so no wipes or cotton pads needed. It really saves space and for a 2 week or so journey it's more then enough!
I bought little cloths that are so compact they slightly bigger than a “Tums” and much smaller than a dishwasher/clothes washing pod. I throw 5 or 6 into my carry on (they’re individually packaged) and throw away after use. Amazon: disposable wash cloths
I was able to travel to Aus and NZ for 32 days in a bag this size and a Le Pliage tote. Temps ranged from 30F to 90F and we enjoyed the countryside, the cities, the desert and the GBR. It’s all about being thoughtful and knowing your style…I also concede that having a small foot helps as shoes over a size 6 or 7 may not fit as easily into that bag. Finally, I did some “surgery” to cut out the clear plastic divider pouch. That opened a LOT of space in the Lucas 16” Underseat Rolling bag.
Your double sided glasses case just blew me away. I usually travel with 3-4 pairs of precription eye/sunglasses but they take up a ton of storage, if protected properly. You just saved me a ton of packing real estate. Just ordered via your AMZN link. Thank you!
Hi Laurie, I know this is an older video so you may not have started using the tray table covers yet (Airplane Pockets Airplane Tray Table Cover.) Would you still be able to roll one up enough to get in your bag to use? I really like that it keeps things clean as well as keeping phone and water bottles handy.
The one time I travelled with just a carryon, I bought a bottle of pricey bque sauce and it didn’t even occur to me until packing for home that I couldn’t take it! I typically travel with a 49.999 lb bag, an under seat carry-on (as my husband’s second item) a backpack and my cross-body bag - pitiful I know so I’m happy to have found you… it will make my husband happy for sure!
I absolutely love your videos!!! They are so helpful and practical. I'm going to London and taking only personal item and under the seat carry on. I purchased the compression bags and am following your packing suggestions, not too much, just enough clothes and will coordinate with two pants, and a few tops. Will shop the second hand shops for fun and take home something! Thank you for all your awesome advise and sharing your experiences.
My travel tip is get a blow out the day before or day of trip. This way you don’t have to wash and style for a few days trip. You can wear a satin scrunchie in messy bun to bed to keep hair tame. This works if you’re not swimming or sweating a lot
I'm traveling to Oregon for 8 days in May. I'm taking a carry on and a personal bag. I bought the black and white striped bag and packing cubes you recommended. I can't wait to use them!
Subscribed to your channel about 4 months ago, as we we’re planning a 15 day Europe trip. We used your tips and packed with carryon and personal bag. It was the greatest. On the next to the last lag of trip, we decided to check our carryon for several reasons. Although my husband’s bag and my daughter’s made it, my bag was lost. I am so thankful I had watched your videos, so I had almost everything I needed for 3 days in my personal item bag. It took all the stress out. The airline found my bag before we left Italy, so that was good. Thanks for your tips; saved my trip to Rome.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie It was my first time to Rome (Italy), and I loved all the history. Didn’t expect the crowds. And yes I ate my way across Rome. So good.
Oh, if your airline will not allow a fanny pack in addition to your personal item, trade it for a many pocketed travel vest (mine has 15 pockets) and a Tilly hat, which has a velcroed pocket in the crown (enough space for a few folded bills, a mylar space blanket, and a small first aid kit.)
I am really glad you did this video, Laurie. I had purchased this case from Amazon in the past, but after seeing it, I did not think I could fit much in and returned it. After seeing this video, I decided to try again. I am now on a trip, using this case for my clothes, slippers and toiletries (and a makeup pouch with my laundry room in a bag), and the laptop backpack you recommend for my laptop, book and documents, electronics organizer, hotel cook/mess kit, and food/beverage stash. It works! And is compact enough to keep in my car all the time as my emergency just-in-case motel kit without taking up all the space.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie It was the Amazon Basics rolling underseater I use for my toiletries/medications/shoes. Then that grey/blue laptop backpack with the striped interior that holds my on-the-go office and cook/mess supplies. Mine is pink though.
Howdy! Because I get really cold, years ago I discovered that wearing an ‘undershirt’ is great for warmth without the bulk of a thick sweater. I like to wear a breathable silk tank or cashmere/silk blend tank or ‘technical’ synthetic tank as undershirts. When I wear or pack a thin, lightweight undershirt I can pack a lightweight sweater and more of the other stuff! great channel - tfs!
Hello Laurie. I just found your channel yesterday. Great suggestions and cute outfits. One question, unless I missed a video on it, I notice here you do not pack a blow dryer or curling iron. Do you not use them? Perhaps a video that includes those items would be helpful. I did just order your personal bag yesterday, the Lovelook one. Can't wait to start using it. Thanks for the great tips!
Nice to see a more minimal type of packing video, especially these days with all the lost luggage stories, and less space in overhead bins because of the fear over lost luggage. 😂 I get better each time with packing less, but still make mistakes - realizing too late I didn't need this or that. 🙄
Love your videos - I recently bought a similar bag - a Flylite brand one (available only through Strandbags in Australia - I love all their luggage) and took it from my home in Northern New South Wales to Sydney for a weekend trip. It was just to test it out really, as we are travelling to Egypt in August (a total of 24hrs travel from here) and I wanted a wheeled underseat bag that I could pack all my essentials in (several changes of clothes, tech, medication, shoes) in case my larger checked bag got lost. We are travelling for 3 weeks and though I intend to pack fairly light I am not minamalist - having to hand-wash my clothes every 3 days is not a holiday to me 🤷🏻♀️ My sisters bag went missing for a week when we travelled through Turkey 7 years ago and she did not have her essentials in her carry on at all. We were moving on every few days and she had to borrow clothes out of my bag (back then we were very different sizes) and she had to get all new prescription meds and shoes, clothes etc. Thanks to some wonderful Turkish locals in Kas on the Turquoise Coast we managed to get the bag back from another city. Thus it is ESSENTIAL to have absolute essentials in your carry on not your checked in bag.
Hi again Laurie! A few weeks ago we went to Mexico - Playa del Carmen & I was SO excited to try out your tip about flipping out the ironing board for extra room to lay my things out. SUCH A GREAT IDEA! Our room was great but NO drawers & minimal hanging area for me & the hubs to share BUT the ironing board was such a good idea to make things more organized for me. Will be using that again next trip. ;)
I have been packing in an underseat bag for about 4 years now, and I love it. However, I just bought a full carryon and it’s so weird having all that space 😂
Yay!!! I have been hoping you would do this!!! Is it possible for you to let us know in future videos what the bag weighs -empty and later “full😁” This is very needed info in some countries…
Brilliant! Wasn't sure you could do it, but I should have had faith! Loved those neutral wedges that you didn't pack - just went and bought them! Hooking the liquids bag to the suitcase is another great hack!
As a Type 1Diabetic .. and having to pack meds, technology supplies (insulin pump, spare pump, infusion sets .. whatever keeps me alive to keep on travelling) .. these are some great tips. I've traveled with a carry on for the last 50 to years along with a backpack (that only holds meds .. though I've managed to tuck in the odd t-shirt, etc. whatever fits and is needed). Travel is so much easy this way and so glad more are finding this way of packing too. I can easily survive 😂 with just carry on/med bag for over a month!
Love this video ! This is what I am using mostly is under the seat bag. I have a really nice travelon rolling suit case. It’s more the traditional look with the wheels built in the suitcase. So easy to roll through airports and also it’s able to fit the more inexpensive airlines. All free. No extra charges since it’s my all in one bag. Most of all I’m not stuck if they say there’s no more room in the overhead bins. My bag is all black with so many pockets and hidden storage, it’s well built. I fit a very small RFID travelon crossbody purse inside. Until I get on the plane then this comes out. Learned this tip and the RIFD from you. Learning to live with out and reusing clothes while traveling is ok with me. A must have is to take the tide pen lol I rarely spill anything but just in case. I bring more light weight tops. Wear all heavy clothes during the trip up and back. Makeup is minimal small pieces. I only bring basics and lotions used in tiny containers. I always bring my own shampoo / conditioner. But all in a travel size containers a weeks worth goes a long way. I usually have just one more pair of small shoes or just wear the pair I have on as long as they are versatile and comfortable is key for me. I’m still able to dress super cute with what I bring. Always on the look out for the weather of course is key 😊 I hope you make a video for those of us who plan to travel with a small 10lbs dog under the seat. I also have a dog stroller planning to bring this. Would love to know your tips on this. I will need to have that suitcase in over head though. I’ll be bringing my small baggies dog food but water once inside to share with the dog.
@Lucky Penny Hi Lucky Penny. I think I puchased the same Travelpro under the seat bag and was planning on putting my cross body bag inside just like you did. I sure am hoping it will fit under the seat. From what I can see it may be just a bit too big. May I ask, have you ever used this bag on an Air Canada flight. That is the airline we are using. Thank you for any further information.
Love packing as a minimalist. One of the liquids I pack is Dr. Bonner's Soap and honestly it could be the only one you carry with you (even toothpaste) It has many uses and several fragrances.
Agree! You can put essential oils in it, too, to use it for different things...shampoo, body wash, or face wash. I do this in our camper, when traveling, and at home for daily use. It works very well when mixed in water in a foaming dispenser (at home, in the camper, and when not flying).
Ohh, Laurie! A frequent river cruiser here. On our last one our nightstand was completely flat, and all my stuff would roll off! I have been looking for a foldable basket or tray….and surprise! Here it is! Thanks so much! Love your videos, they are so uplifting!
Thank you for this video. I’m going to be taking my first flight ever to Europe this summer for a 10 day trip. I’m terrified of if I pack for overhead luggage there won’t be room for it and getting it checked so I’m wanting to pack in an under seat bag for this trip. The clothes ideas were a big help. And was going to be bringing a small backpack to hold my medicines, book, hand sanitizer, and other little things will need easy access to for the flight.
Great tips, as usual, Laurie! Glad I found your channel to prepare for my international trip later this year. I’m trying out all kinds of packing ideas, bags, and learning all the tips and tricks! Thanks!
Thank you for all of the tips. Every time I watch one, I find something else that I want to get for my trip to Switzerland. Now to figure out clothes for the 1st week in May.
hi Laurie! I have been loving your videos. We traveled so much when we were younger because we were missionaries. But it has been a while! So, now that we are traveling more again, I have been needing some updates and fresh ideas. Thank you so much for all the info. Soooo helpful.
Excellent video. I have been packing underseat only for years. I am plus size, so my packing space is less than yours. But I make it work. I have never regretted doing this. However, my airline only allows one bag, so my handbag goes inside. I use a similar bag by Samsonite. Thanks for all the information. I am constantly learning new things.
LOVE this carry-on back & your tips are spot on (100% on compression cubes). Pushing the limits (for me) for only taking this bag for an 18 day trip. Packing a lotion bar, travel size toothpaste tube (toothpaste tablets too expensive!) & travel size dry shampoo aerosol and will be using the hotel shampoos. I'll probably weigh 10 lbs heavier with all the layers I'll be wearing on the plane!
Thanks Laurie I’m always trying to find ways to minimize space. On a trip to the Galapagos I was scrambling to find more liquid space. I wanted to take some insect repellent. So I took some dried out wet wipes and soaked them in liquid Off repellent and put them back in the package. Now it’s no longer a liquid!!!!
In my everyday purse and my carry-on I wrap jewelry and extra prescription glasses in Bubble Wrap because it cushions my items well and doesn't add any weight.
Hello from California! I thoroughly enjoy your videos and learning from you. I’m traveling to Europe for the 1st time since the pandemic in carry on only for two weeks thanks to your tips and tricks! I thoroughly enjoy your videos and look forward to them! Cheers!
Laurie, I really love your travel videos! We are flying to UT soon (we haven't flown since 2019) and have been doing road trips exclusively. During our long trips of 14-15 days, we would stay at 5-7 different locations. I have a few tips: wear ONE versatile set of jewelry, like earrings and a ring or necklace. For me, it simply wasn't worth it to pack extra jewelry. My other tip is, do NOT bring shampoo, conditioner, body soap, or a blow dryer - any hotel or B & B we have ever stayed at already provides you with those items in your room. I have sleep apnea, and I'm bringing my CPAP machine in my carry-on items - so that's a new experience for me. We always check our bags (which only have clothes in them)- instead, I pack a fashionable backpack (which includes a separate wristlet purse) and put all of my essentials in it. Finally, during your trip, locate the nearest laundromat and have the attendant wash your dirty clothes for you while you sightsee! You can just bring your dirty clothes in and you just pick them up at the end of the day! It costs a little extra but it's totally worth it!
@@ClarisseRockinThatBow You might want to check with the airline. Many of them consider a CPAP a medical device and can be carried seperately without being counted as a bag...
I just ordered a set of compression cubes. I plan to use one of them for the change of clothing that goes in my personal-item bag. Another feature of this is that I can use the cube as a pillow on the overnight flight.
A couple of months ago, we went to San Francisco. I used the underseat luggage bag to pack my son's clothes. I was able to pack 4 days' worth of clothes! I would love to see what awesome tips you have!
I owned a travel company and would also in depth guided small tours. We did a 12 day Russia River Cruise and 2 days extra in St. Petersburg & Moscow. I did several month long trips to Cambodia, Vietnam & Thailand. Another favorite trip with the Danube River Cruise to see all the Christmas Markets. I gave lessons on how to “Pack Light & Travel Light”. Even for our month long tours a person was allowed to 1 personal item and 1 carryon bag. I am leaving this week for a 10 visit to Ecuador and have decided that it can be done in an under the seat roller bag…
Had to watch this one as I'm flying Spirit to Florida for a 3 and a half day trip... I just bought what is suppose to be a laptop/briefcase bag from Eddie Bauer at a yard sale for $3... has lots of pockets and is rectangular, so no bulges... empty it is 7" x 13" x 18", which is just under their parameters... I have a navy base of tank tops and shorts (navy is my black...) and I have several options to go over those... a red bandana cape-type thingy and a gingham checked men's shirt in navy... I usually travel to & fro in the same outfit... I know Florida is warm and humid, so I will pack accordingly... no pants, but maybe a dressier skirt for evening...sandals/flip flops all the way 'cause I'm getting my toes did... 😁
Fabulous video on minimalist packing you did with an underseat carryon. Your videos always inspire me and I’m getting ready for a month trip to UK with a carryon only. Plan to wash clothes 3 times while in UK. Feeling confident this will work. Keep inspiring all of us! Maureen from Caledon Ontario Canada
I used an undersea bag and a backpack for a trip to Sydney for 17 days. I tried Vivaia flats and they were great. Although they do not have arch support they are washable and packable they were comfortable walking 25,000 steps per day.
I’m gunna try to pack super minimal next plane trip because I’m gunna be going swimming, hiking, and going on a small car camping road trip at my destination so I need to minimize the personal items I would usually bring. A couple things I’ve thought of: wearing smart wool/merino wool socks so I can wear then a few days in a row and sink wash them. Also camp soap.. they come in tsa approved sizes and I can use them as shampoo, body wash, laundry soap, etc. I also have a new stuffable neck pillow I’ll be putting the majority of my clothes in. I also have a blow up neck pillow I might use instead depending on how minimal I can get 😊
A big yes for ecco brand shoes. The styles are timeless, they are #1 in comfort, and they last forever. My silly tip when I want more kinds of liquids: I bounce my tubes so any air rises to the opening. I open them, squeeze out the air and then close them. It makes them the smallest that they can be, and I might be able to fit in just one more.
Laurie, been watching your channel for months now. Just wanted to say thank you for all of your insightful tips and tricks. I'm also from Houston with many friends in the industry but you're by far my fav.
Hi, Laurie. I learn a new hack with every one of your videos. Thanks for so many great tips! I wear stud earrings and I use a little thing called a Lion Latch to keep them in when I travel. It's just about the size of a marshmallow and it holds rings and stud earrings beautifully. It has 3 parts: a tiny 'jar', a lid, and a hinged ring. Rings slide over a post inside the 'jar' and there is plenty of room for more than one pair of my earrings. The lid has a hole that goes over the post and closes the jar. The post has a hole that the ring goes through. The ring keeps the lid on protecting the jewelry inside. The ring clips onto my toiletry bag loop (where the hook is attached). It's a bit difficult to describe the Lion Latch, but once you see one, you see what a simple (and brilliant) concept the design is.
In Europe you can take an airport shopping bag on board in addition to your carry on. So I buy travel size shampoo, conditioner & bodylotion, handcream at the airport. I've also put my small handbag in there too.
I have the exact same suitcase but a different brand and it is FABULOUS! It fits sooo much! Most travel size toiletries are around 2-3oz… even for a 2-week trip I don’t need that much of most things… so I buy half to 1 ounce containers and use those instead!
Hello, just had to say thank you cuz, your vids were so very helpful as I travel by plane first time in 15 years, and 4 plane rides and 5000 miles later, it went without a hitch. Your vids are a tremendous service for those of us who are travel by air , challange🤭
i wish i could really pack like you but i need to take a hair dryer brush. i have arthritis in my hands and can’t use a regular blow dryer. but i hace adopted many of your tips, so thank you!!!
I really enjoy your videos and have learned some good things thank you. There is one thing that you do not include in packing though…the shoes, sports bras and workout clothes needed for regular exercisers. Many of us work out in hotel and cruise gyms and we are dedicated to staying in shape …. And most definitely on vacation 😊
Hi Laurie, I’m a recent subscriber enjoying your channel! I have a couple of large health food type stores in my area that have beauty products. They usually give out the little packet samples of moisturizer, night cream, eye cream, or cleanser. Two packets of moisturizer will last about 4 days! I also minimize all my makeup products. I get the small/mini mascara, lip cream etc that come in a gift set. I use the lip cream also as a blush and shear it out thinly on my eyelids to give 1 light or neutral eyeshadow that I bring more dimension. A powder foundation doubles as a finishing powder when used lightly. I use all mini sizes of makeup from little try on kits. I basically got a couple of kits and use the products I like for travel only. That way I don’t bring my everyday makeup , maybe just a couple of brushes and eyeliner. I can fit all my makeup and most skincare (packets) in a ziploc bag, lol. Thanks for your videos! Have fun traveling!
Wow, this is brilliant Laurie, I would not have thought you could pack so much in a case like this. In fact, I previously ordered it and returned it because I thought it was too small to be useful. I am so grateful you made this video!
Wow! So impressed with how much you packed in this bag. I have similar bag and have only packed for three days tops, so will learn from your tips how to pack for more days…I usually use compression cubes and take advantage of spaces in between the handles. I usually put flip flops in side pocket, one on each side…I would probably put this in overhead and bring tote or backpack for all the little personal stuff, meds, cords, extra glasses, jewelry, etc…cuz just this and small cross body or Fanny pack won’t cut it for me 😅

Can you bring a20 inch carry on and a backpack as your personal item, health equipment cpap does not count as carry on
Hi, on most airlines you can get a carry-on and personal item. Is that what you are asking?@@konstanceepstein9714
You are the BEST! I’m an 80-year-old lady, always a minimalist packet, and still I have learned from you!
I'm so glad! 80 is great-y!
im over 80 also and travel with a scooter so. my under seat bag also holds my scooter charger so happy to travel and love your tips Laurie
That sounds like a blast ! I would love to live vicariously through u !
We are going to Finland in July! Super excited!
Yes, that swap out is what I was talking about. Such good tips!
Such a smart tip!
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Thanks :)
I am so impressed your travel tips. A recent widow now going to begin solo travel, and your videos are teaching me how I can do this. Additionally, you have a dear personality. I feel like you are my friend. Thank you, Laurie.
Have fun! You may want to join girl group trips sometimes.
-Laurie
Hi! Enjoy the ride-all the highs and lows!
It really is big enough for packing for a trip!
😅
I’m so glad I found someone who loves to travel and dresses like I do! Thank you for great advice and the fashion/ brand tips. My goal is not not overpack for my next overseas trip!
Hi Laurie! I just discovered your channel and I’m loving your tips and your energy! I have found SO MANY great travel bags and accessories because of you. I have always considered myself a pretty decent packer but I was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis so I’m trying to up my game and lighten my load to save my poor back.
This video is very close to how I pack. I call it Tetris-Ing (like the game) my bag.😂
The way I do it is to pack in layers.
Love tetris!
Use cream shadow sticks and 1 brush for blending.
Oh it’s so fun through their eyes. I have that video called Travel tips for children or kids maybe.
Oh, thank you, I will look that up! (Might be the only one I haven't watched, lol)
Laurie is amazing! Her tips are top notch! Good luck on your trip.
Wow! You are one brave mum! Best wishes!
Good for you! Great job in doing this!
That's great to know! Thank you.
Great space-saving tip!
*than
That is brilliant. We all have old wash cloths that we don’t mind tossing.
Use the dry face wash cloths (e.g.Olay) on your face and then use them as a wash cloth for your body, then discard.
Smart tip!
I agree, if you can pack for 3 days, you can travel for 3 months.
Those Wit & Wisdom jeans are so comfortable and flattering too!
Fanny packs are definitely a must have for travel! Pretty much a 3rd carry on lol
Oh wow yay! Whew! Italy!!! Was it beautiful and delicious?
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie It was my first time to Rome (Italy), and I loved all the history. Didn’t expect the crowds. And yes I ate my way across Rome. So good.
I have always marveled at those folks who pack in bags like this. Thanks for this video-it’s genius!!
Good tips! Going to the Dominican in February for 9 days, and us girls are trying a carry on for the first time!
I use my Scott eVest - it has about 18 pockets.
First plane trip in over 20 years for my husband and I. I’m overwhelm. You are really helping. Going for 2 weeks.
Jen, I have seen two versions while trying to find links again so I hope this means you got the right one. So glad your trips is great so far.
Yes yes yes! I learned that just this last year as well. It really helps add warmth without bulk.
I always hate digging out my liquid bag for security. ❤️ Clipping it on the suitcase.
Wasn’t that a good hack?!
We are travelling for 3 weeks and though I intend to pack fairly light I am not minamalist - having to hand-wash my clothes every 3 days is not a holiday to me 🤷🏻♀️
My sisters bag went missing for a week when we travelled through Turkey 7 years ago and she did not have her essentials in her carry on at all.
Valuable travel tip!
Will be using that again next trip. ;)
Yay I am so glad it helped!
I have been packing in an underseat bag for about 4 years now, and I love it. However, I just bought a full carryon and it’s so weird having all that space 😂
Did u bring a purse or tote bag with your under the seat bag?
Yay!!! I have been hoping you would do this!!! Is it possible for you to let us know in future videos what the bag weighs -empty and later “full😁” This is very needed info in some countries…
Hi Laurie, I'm from NYC and love your videos. Your advice is gold. 👍💕 thanks .
Oh wow, you have great packing skills!
My husband and I both have one of these under seat small suitcase and love to travel with only carry on bags. This bag fulfills our needs!!
Thanks for sharing!
Always on the look out for the weather of course is key 😊
I hope you make a video for those of us who plan to travel with a small 10lbs dog under the seat. I also have a dog stroller planning to bring this. Would love to know your tips on this. I will need to have that suitcase in over head though. I’ll be bringing my small baggies dog food but water once inside to share with the dog.
Oh how fun! Here is a video but check your airline's rules: bit.ly/FlyWithDog
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie thank you 🥰🐶 btw my suitcase I meant travelpro * autocorrect at its best lol
@@elliejellie22 Hi, I have not. I would google their restrictions. If it Is, could you use the overhead bin?
Yay!
I love all of your videos! Thank you sharing great tips and all of your wonderful fashion items! ❤
Thanks!
I love my Scottevest jacket. A back pocket can carry my laptop, and various other pockets work well to carry other items.
Thank you for all of the tips. Every time I watch one, I find something else that I want to get for my trip to Switzerland. Now to figure out clothes for the 1st week in May.
Ooh yes! I do have a video called Pack for Winter trip in one carry on bag.
Great tricks, and I’m a regular viewer! I have a bag similar to yours and will definitely try to use it soon! Thank you!
Everytime i watch your videos i want to travel!!
hi Laurie! I have been loving your videos. We traveled so much when we were younger because we were missionaries. But it has been a while! So, now that we are traveling more again, I have been needing some updates and fresh ideas. Thank you so much for all the info. Soooo helpful.
Thanks for sharing!!
Which airline only allows one bag and how many days do you pack in your under seat bag?
LOVE this carry-on back & your tips are spot on (100% on compression cubes). Pushing the limits (for me) for only taking this bag for an 18 day trip. Packing a lotion bar, travel size toothpaste tube (toothpaste tablets too expensive!) & travel size dry shampoo aerosol and will be using the hotel shampoos. I'll probably weigh 10 lbs heavier with all the layers I'll be wearing on the plane!
Oh wow I could not do that. Congrats!
So smart of a travel hack! Did you wet them when you needed to use them or did they stay wet?
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie They stayed wet!
Cheers!
Same for me, Miranda! Europe for two weeks and 4 days, carry on only!
Best of luck! Cheerio! So happy for you.
Laundry is key for long trips and such a treat. Remember your cpap does not count as luggage.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Right, thanks!
You can also use Ziploc freezer bags.
WOW! Way to go; what suitcase did you use?
Great hacks! Thanks! It is always so stressful to travel and this is so helpful!
I hope to take the stress out!
Being able to wash clothes on vacation would help so much!
I used an undersea bag and a backpack for a trip to Sydney for 17 days. I tried Vivaia flats and they were great. Although they do not have arch support they are washable and packable they were comfortable walking 25,000 steps per day.
Liquids bag attached the outside of the bag….That’s money!!💵 I love that tip thank you!
Worth every penny!
Thanks for the tips you've given I'm traveling to🇨🇦in April I'm looking forward👍
I also have a blow up neck pillow I might use instead depending on how minimal I can get 😊
So smart!!! Love that packing plan.
Yes! And bounce your suitcase so everything settles and add one more compression cube to the opening before zipping.
super cute outfit suggestions - your videos are so helpful and you speak clearly and quick! I love it! thank you!
Glad you like them!
I am always amazed at how much my under the seat bag holds when it is packed thoughtfully. Thanks for the tips Laurie!
thank you for the info. i am a new fan of yours...love your tips on weather , shoes and ideas......keep it up !!!!
Laurie, been watching your channel for months now. Just wanted to say thank you for all of your insightful tips and tricks. I'm also from Houston with many friends in the industry but you're by far my fav.
Thank you so much! Enjoy this weekend weather! It’s still patio weather!
@Travel Tips by Laurie Spent the weekend in CZM with a retired United bud who has a dive ship down there. Weather was great!
Why did we not invent this?! Thanks!
Yes and it’s from Shark Tank! And on Amazon
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie I got mine through The Grommet a couple of years ago. They feature new inventions.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie so simple, yet brillian!
I have gone for 4 days in this smaller bad, great job in making it go for 8!! I just received my TSA pre-approval, so happy.
Hello, just had to say thank you cuz, your vids were so very helpful as I travel by plane first time in 15 years, and 4 plane rides and 5000 miles later, it went without a hitch. Your vids are a tremendous service for those of us who are travel by air , challange🤭
Oh I am so happy for you!
The space underneath aisle seats is narrower than other seats if configured in a row of 3. Same as space beside charger boxes I think.
Same on CRJ200s (rows of 2).
i wish i could really pack like you but i need to take a hair dryer brush. i have arthritis in my hands and can’t use a regular blow dryer. but i hace adopted many of your tips, so thank you!!!
Once again Laurie you've given us so much incredible info to make our travel easier and fun! Thank you so much!
You are so welcome!
Those are great tips. Thanks!
Also concealer can double as eyeshadow primer. Have a good one!
I usually put flip flops in side pocket, one on each side…I would probably put this in overhead and bring tote or backpack for all the little personal stuff, meds, cords, extra glasses, jewelry, etc…cuz just this and small cross body or Fanny pack won’t cut it for me 😅
That is exactly what I would do! I really did not think it could be done.
Wow, I'm seriously impressed by how much you fit in that small bag.
Love all the helpful tips!!
Glad it was helpful!
I hope you post a video of your packing for London before you go! I really enjoy your tips!
Another wonderful video fUll of helpful instructions. There’s always something new to learn. Thanks Laurie!🥰
