Easily the greatest rider of all time. My downhill days are long gone, don't really follow it that much but whenever I hear Sam Hill's name I'm instantly on it. He was such a role model from the age of 14-18. Used to watch his part in Clay Porter's F1RST every day after school before going out to ride my bike. Just like most of the guys who were growing up during his peak all I wanted was to be just like him. Also, Sam Hill is literally the only reason why Monster Energy really took off within the MTB community. The dude is Michael Jordan of downhill mountain biking.
up for this. if UCI will allow it like what Maes is doing joining selected races in DH. Sam can choose what he thinks is gnarly enough for him and join. Wishing for that for quite sometime now.
Genuinely curious if he would have the pace against the top 10 guys in World Cup DH today. Huge fan of Sam, and love watching him tear up EWS (watched him in person in Whistler a couple times, was awesome), but there's definitely a speed gap in EWS vs. WCDH. He was 6th at Cairns World Champs 2017 on an enduro bike but that was four years ago.
@@hobmarg Yeah I tend to agree. He has been off the tracks for a while and I think he is less inclined to want to risk the big slams at high speed now he has a family.
@@exhibitD79 I think he may have said as much one time? It's definitely true, Minnaar made a comment this past weekend that current world cup DH requires 100% commitment/max speed for the entire track, no letting off, so much higher risk of injury.

I guess EWS is mostly riding blind, while WCDH is about perfecting line choices in one run with multiple track walks and test runs. So, I would guess then, Sam Hill is better at riding blind than everybody else. And perhaps he doesn't have the routine today of perfecting line choices the way the WCDH works today. 🤷♂️
