In the city where I live, there's a fairly popular art museum that would do free admission on the first Friday of the month (before Covid). I used to like looking at a painting for a little it and then saying to no one in particular, "This is what salvation must be like after a while." Nobody ever seemed to get the reference. Bah.

He has inspired so many great artists justifiably, but he's not God and had some seriously shitty periods and I would hate to have him for a father, don't know how Jacob Dylan turned out to be such a sane brilliant musician In His Own Write to quote John .Lennon.

That's ok -- I hate posts where the comments are all fanatical supporters, like Jordan Peterson where you get bumped off with a hint of criticism. Really appreciate your comment. No-one is perfect; I was very moved by The Kennedy Center Honours for Bruce when he sat beside Michelle Obama and was totally overwhelmed; very human. I know he celebrates 50 yrs of his group but heh he put out way more single albums than Tom Petty who I keep bringing up who truly would have been bereft without a band even during the Jeff Lynne period. I am not convinced Springsteen was as attached as Tom but that's life.

Okay Dylan’s Highway 61 has to be the best opening verse of any song ever:
“God said to Abraham, kill me a son...
Abe says man you must be putting me on...
God says no Abe says what...
God says you can do what you want to,
but the next time you see me coming you better run...
Abe says where you want this killin’ done...
God says out on highway 61”
Everything that’s wrong with the world in one verse...incredible!

So right...listening to a vinyl album, especially when you'd just got it from a record store, was an event! While it was playing you'd read the liner notes, look at the album art! It was the whole package .... nowadays you have "playlists" on your phone that fill the background... some of the magic is gone

Hey Bruce, it's nice to reconnect with you and your music. I have many many great stories about hearing and even playing your music. One day in 1979, I was hanging out with some friends on the balcony across the street. There was a real heavy rainstorm presence in the area around Calgary but we were sheltered with a roof and comfortable. A friend and I were singing Born to Run and really hitting it up. We were approaching the climax of the refrain, "Baby we were born to . . . " and there was a monstrous bolt of lightning right there and then so we couldn't hear ourselves sing "RUN!" It was a magical gift as is your music. Thank you. Come up to Vancouver when isolation settles down.
