The lasting memory of the 2024 season is how Tim Banks, in textbook Penn State fashion, coached like he was afraid of Georgia and Ohio State. Halzle was anemic as well. I'm not faulting them because they didn't win. I'm faulting them both because they didn't even really try.

Everyone is overreacting. They WANT to be an elite team, but we are not yet. We should be happy where we are, not satisfied, but happy how far we've came. We are in tier B and knocking on the door. It's a stepping stone. Don't forget where you came from

The Vols have not had an elite program since the early 50's. I've been a fan for decades and even if you include 98, the Vols have never been on a level that Bama (Bryant, Saban), the Gators(Spurrier) and Georgia (Smart) have been on. The Vols are more like Auburn, aside from a couple of seasons it's just heartbreak after heartbreak.

@@a-fox I think the Vols were elite in 90's, but it is hard to make much of an argument against your assessment. I am not certain we will ever see "decades of dominance" like those you mentioned again with everyone having such big money now. I can not think of a coach right now, except Saban that I would trade CJH for.

The goaline fumble was difference, no lie. Tey really could have ended season 8-4 and Tennessee 9-3.
They had UGA down til they lost their QB. Even with a 3rd string walk on they were tied in the 4th.
Pretending Florida isn’t trending up just because of fandom for tennessee is disingenuous. If Florida doesn’t fumble, Tennessee doesn’t make playoffs at 9-3.

3 Guaranteed Losses next season: GA, AL and FL. Look for a couple of Choke Losses from Arkansas, Oklahoma or Vandy. The Vols will be lucky to go 8 and 4. Why do I say this:
1: A lot of Vol starters in 25 will come from the portal.. Learning Hypel's system takes time.
2: While we have another easy schedule the teams mentioned finished stronger than the Vols.
3: Nico's Nil is a problem. A: team mates can't help but compare NIL numbers and they see linemen and receivers getting blamed for Nico's lack of performance. B: Nico has not improved... still playing at high school level which explains us playing ETSU next season.
4: Hypel's system doesn't work.. the thing I loved about his system was that we caught defenses flat footed. Not every play but at least one or two big plays per drive. This season Nico let the play clock go into the RED and under five sec more times than I've ever seen a QB do.
5: When things aren't working Hypel lacks the ability to make a change. I think his Ego is a concern.
6: Players get injured. This season we had a lot of Easy games which should have allowed back up running backs and QB2 to get some reps. But NO Hypel had to run up team and player stats. These games should have been used to develop players for next season as well.
7: AND Finally... Hypel and his coaching staff had trouble all season prepping for games and making changes at halftime.

Grr. Vols had a better year, yes Florida got better but they did not play near the level Tennessee did. Let’s stop hitting the panic button over 1 game. The local media and fan base is what kills our momentum and recruiting. OSU had better talent and beyond that, sometimes a team has a great night and another doesn’t. They dropped a game to a team they should have beat, so did Georgia, Texas, Alabama, annnnnnd Tennessee. It’s over, we lost, next year has started.

Not to worry, the SEC has weighed in and decided that UGA and Tenn are going to be the premier schools in the East next year. By switching UF and UGA games against Tenn, they are protecting UGA from a tougher Tenn team (UT is always slow to start) and giving UT 2 weeks to prep and heal before going to Gville to play UF after that brutal schedule.

    • @a-fox

TN has 3 challenging games in 25. GA has 6. I don't think anyone is protecting GA. Besides don't most teams schedule their patsy games early in the season... and yes we are a patsy to GA. We lost the last 8 and many of those were worse than our first playoff game. We only won 2 of the last 15 games... yes reality bites.

    • @adamb6370
      @adamb6370 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

@ a couple of things, first while we do pick our noncon games, the SEC set conference schedule and accommodates when they can. So they don’t always get to choose. Plus the SEC teams have been set of 3 years and they set this schedule in August/Sept. back then OU was supposed to be hard and Florida was firing Napier. But the SEC can do this switch and help UGA with a potential win over Tennessee. And pay Tenn back getting Florida at the end of their schedule after NMST and a bye. What the SEC didn’t count on when they made the schedule was the massive improvements that Florida made in the last two months and Florida being a potential contender next year.
