I love this show, it's like having friends who are total dorks lol. "Hey we want to come over and talk about Nintendo." "You mean you want to play Nintendo?" "No we just want to talk about playing Nintendo." "Ok come over." lol
10. Wireless controller for the Gamecube - 0:16 9. Enhancement chips - 3:34 8. Nintendo power - 7:23 7. Save game feature - 10:17 6. Smash Brothers - 12:37 5. Couch co-op - 15:46 4. Great list! I love Nintendo, always have. I started at 3 years old, playing Super Mario Bros. Now, I'm playing Wii U and Switch games with my kids while simultaneously introducing them to classic games on NES and SNES. I love that Nintendo games can be extremely competitive, yet at the same time are great for families to just sit down and have fun with together.
Great video guys! It pretty much sums up why I will always be nostalgic for Nintendo and what they accomplished. I am thinking about getting a complete Nintendo Power magazine set.
The reason D-pads from other companies sucked so bad was due to patents. Nintendo had the patent for the way the D-pad was designed internally well into the 2000's. So other companies had to completely redesign the d-pad under the hood in order to attempt to copy Nintendo which is why they never felt as good. Now no one has an excuse not to just use the Nintendo design for the d-pad including Nintendo.
Joseph McDade "This isn't the thing that I like. I like that one thing and this isn't it. Booooo." You don't gave you watch every video, dude. If its not for you, skip it.
#1 accomplishment is the fact that nintendo single handedly revived a dying industry on a whim Donkey Kong the arcade cabinet. Without that game, the gaming industry would have died out 30 years ago. Hell they almost didnt even come out with donkey kong, originally it was going to be a Popeye game but the licensing for the characters werent available so they made up there own and went with it
Adding to the whole "D-pad" topic, I'd say more than just that, Nintendo has pretty much invented the controller layout standard we are still using today! It can all be traced back to the original NES controller, and heck, even further back to the old Game & Watch games! It's so simple and yet so effective! You take a small board that you can hold with both of your hands, put the movement controls on the left, the action buttons on the right, Start/Pause and Select, you know, the buttons you'll not press as often, put them in the centre and voila! Later on the SNES took that standard and further improved upon it by adding extra action buttons in a diamond-like layout, which is the layout we are still using today, added shoulder buttons, you know, something we take for granted today, might not even have existed was it not for Nintendo... Think I'm done? Not quite yet! If you look at the original Playstation controller it's just like a SNES controller only with an extra pair of shoulder buttons! The Sega Saturn controller was more like a 6 Button Genesis controller, but again, with shoulder buttons, then came the N64 and it had something else, an Analogue Stick! Yeah sure, analogue sticks did exist before, but the N64 was the one that implemented it in the form-factor we know and love today! After the N64 came out Sony and Sega followed on Nintendo's footsteps and made new controllers for their systems with analogue sticks in them! (Sony did it better though) Once again, was it not for Nintendo, the controllers we use nowadays would have probably been really different, and most likely not as good...
sick of hearing about nintendo wireless controller the atari 2600 had one Sega had one *3rd party) it had delay unresponsive and the controller was crap
Best things nintendo ever done 1.Zelda 2.Mario 3.Metroid 4. censor 5. taking down everything they hate from the internet 6. selling outdated systems for more than a ps4pro or a decent mid pc 7. fucking up youtubers who use their products
I DON'T CARE WHO DOES IT BUT YOU GUYS NEEEEED TO SEE THE TRAILER FOR "Ready Player One" PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO A REACTION VIDEO FOR THIS AMAZING UPCOMING MOVIE CAN I GET SOME LIKES?!?? WHO WANTS TO SEE THEM REACT TO THE MOVIE TRAILER?!?!??!?!
I think the Wii deserved a spot on this list. The thing kicked in the door of the "hardcore" gaming market and said games are supposed to be fun and for everyone! You can complain about waggle controls and shovel ware but the thing really was a gaming revolution. Deserves more credit.
The people complaining about the lighting or video quality need to calm down. Just because you see something or hear something you dont prefer, doesnt mean you have to whine about it. There is such a thing as constructive criticism, and many of you are way too old to criticize the way you do. These are OPINIONS, and they never said that this top 10 was some kind of universal standard. They stated their opinions and gave their reasons. If you dont agree, there is a way to express that without acting like you have brain damage. Its not a law that you have to be a moron just because you can hide behind a keyboard. Show some class and treat others the way youd like to be treated. I doubt anyone comes to your home and tears you a new asshole just because you have an opinion that other people dont agree with. Grow up!!
I want to like Nintendo more than I do. The library on the nes was massive. Sure, most of the games sucked, but there has to be at least 50 games that I still remember liking. Look at Nintendo through the years and their games became more aimed at children, smaller libraries, and attempts at making games that would have been better had they avoided competition with 3D and just made them 2D instead. Castlevania64 for example. I have no interest in playing Splatoon or Mario Odyssey. They're made for five year olds. Where are the innovative rpg's, or platformers? Also, Nintendo doesn't seem to care about their old franchises or games that would have made excellent sequels. Zelda randomizer should have been Nintendo's idea for example. I still like Nintendo, but they could be so much bigger than what they are.
Hey James just bought another emulated Xbox with 20000 games should do a review on bushido blade . Very good game from back in the day . One hit one kill.
I'd completely forgotten that game. I had it on the Playstation. Not just one hit kills but also realistic body damage. You could sledgehammer someone in the knees and all they could do afterwards was roll around on the floor while limply waving their weapon. I seem to remember that you weren't allowed to progress all the way to the end of the one player mode if you fought unfairly, such as running and stabbing your opponent before they were ready or killing them with a strike to the back. My friends hated the realism so I didn't play it too often.
I believe there are more people to fight after the guy with the gun if you follow the rules of Bushido (not moving until the opponent is ready or landing back strikes). Though as I said, it's been a while, so apologies if I'm getting this completely wrong.
Oh god the Xbox 360 Dpad was absolute suckage. Imprecise as all fuck. I hated playing Borderlands 2 on it and trying to switch weapons with the Dpad. Never went to the one I wanted. I don't know how Microsoft fucked it up so bad.
I used to have the Acclaim wireless, infra red controllers (for NES) and the NES Satellite. Both are neat to have in the collection, but the only one I recommend is the Satellite, and you'll still be wired into the sender unit.
Ok, honestly guys, as a big fan of Cinemassacre, I rarely ever watch Mike And Ryan, not because of you guys, but because for me the themes make it uninteresting compared to other Cinemassacre content. Now THIS is my favorite Talk About Games... a sweet top 10, that looks at niche game issues. I'd love to see more of these.
In regards to #9, SEGA tried to counter the SuperFX chip with their own, called Sega Virtua Processor or SVP. It was only available in a single game in the end - Virtua Racing, and it was very expensive, about $100 at release. They had plans to release it as an add on but it never happened as they ultimately decided against in favor of the 32X. Virtua Racing was released the same year as the 32X, 1994. Virtua Racing Deluxe, the 32X version, was also released months later that same year. 1995 saw the game released for the Saturn and a decade later it was remade for the PS2 as well.
The "save your game" thing I exploited for a good 30min of extra play time as often as possible. It was fantastic, and something I absolutely remember. "I just need to make it to a save point. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!"
Guys, please don't reference Doom on the SNES like that was a good thing, I played it. It was limited to a tiny viewspace, the graphics were hideous, and it was constantly laggy. It disgraced the good name of Doom.
The Innovative Modern Nintendo Controller that came with Systems was my #1 with the Wii Remotes, Wii U GamePad and the Switch Joy-Cons. I LOVE THAT HOW NINTENDO DID THAT !
I spent 2 months in Europe and by the time I came back I was dying for some Taco Bell. Never even really ate it that much before that, but by the time I came back I needed it. My dad picked me up from the airport and I made him stop at the drive-thru before even taking me home.
The Commodore 64 could've easily taken the NES' place in history with restoring the video game industry, even Sega could've done the same since they were planning on releasing the Master System in North America anyway.
ajmrowland Yeah, still the game industry was still breathing with Arcades and Games on Home Computer Systems. Nintendo fully revived the industry with the NES back in 85 and 86.
Without the Famicom's succes in Japan, SEGA would have maybe stuck to arcades. Home computers were generally too expensive in the US. Sure the C64 was popular, but its relative sales to the NES prove otherwise. What many don't understand, it wasn't just the system of the NES that made it successful, it were the exclusive games that came from Nintendo that made it popular. In essence, Super Mario Bros saved industry.
It's not just the D-Pad it's the whole design of the original NES controller. The placement of the buttons and the longways rectangle shape. It was soo good you thought that 'This is the way you play games". 'This is the way we are supposed to play. It was that good.
All in all this is a pretty good list. Great video! This video has too many down votes. A lot of the gripes in the comments are not fair. For example, Ryan clearly said saved games on consoles. And the memorable characters and story lines made Nintendo very successful. There were video game characters prior to Nintendo but they were shallow characters with not much of a story line.
Loved Nintendo Power. Started subscribing when they had the Dragon Warrior promotion. Got an amazing game for subscribing to the magazine. Also remember the Final Fantasy guide.
I think the Wii and motion controls deserved to be on this list. Like it or not, the Wii did change video games for a while there with it's control style and it was one of the best selling consoles of all time. Plus despite all the shovelware, games like Wii Sports, Mario Galaxy, Skyward Sword, Donkey Kong Country Returns, New Super Mario Bros, Punch-Out, No More Heroes, Kirby's Return to Dreamland and countless others showed the console had a pretty solid line-up. And some of them even make a case for using motion controls. I think it's an important moment in gaming. Certainly more important than the Wavebird.
Guys, Nintendo patented the dpad. The reason other dpads didn't just copy them is that they weren't allowed to. I think the patent expired recently but PlayStation dpad has its own signature look so they aren't going to change it (despite being an inferior design).
Just a couple comments for what it's worth. If I were to compile a similar top ten list as this I probably would've combined a few of your things together. When I think of Nintendo I think of innovation, there are tons of things you could have listed. So instead of having separate item for cart chips you could talk about the massive innovation of Nintendo. You could mention the chips here as well as the fact that it took Nintendo to show pc programmers how to use buffers to create seamless action from screen to screen, e.g. the creation of doom was inspired by this technique used in super Mario Bros. You could also mention the wireless remotes and all the Wii accessories etc. I'm getting long winded here but I would probably have included super smash Bros as part of the couch video gaming. I probably would've included super Mario Bros as it's own thing too! Zelda is great! But Mario was Nintendo back in the day and helped the success of the system.
Wow, just wow this episode. Cinemassacre Rocks, but holy cow, the facts spewed out on this episode was just wow! Not sure what the boys were trying to convey in this episode. Still gave a thumbs up.
I had that Logitech wireless PS2 controller. The best aftermarket controller I've ever used! I'd love to find that model again, so I can replace mine since it broke a few years ago! >_
Great observation on the alluring simplicity of NES packaging. The box covers showed you just enough to entice you.
The lighting in this video makes it look like one of the very early cinemasacre videos
I love this show, it's like having friends who are total dorks lol. "Hey we want to come over and talk about Nintendo." "You mean you want to play Nintendo?" "No we just want to talk about playing Nintendo." "Ok come over." lol

The best Nintendo achievement is the Angry Nintendo Nerd.
Engel word

one of my fondest memories is a sleepover with my cousin. We just playes mariokart (snes) the entire time.
Thought this would be Top 10 Achievements you could do in Nintendo games.
Like beating the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy or besting Mike Tyson in Punch Out!!!
same here! lol
That would be another good talk about games!
yeah for sure
Yeah, the title would be less confusing as “Best Nintendo’s Achievements”.
I really appreciate that you always put a picture of the thing you're talking about on the screen.
The reason D-pads from other companies sucked so bad was due to patents. Nintendo had the patent for the way the D-pad was designed internally well into the 2000's. I like the idea for a super game boy cartridge for the SNES classic.
i had and still have my wireless genesis controller and work great
Yet ANOTHER Nintendo fanboyism video? Sigh.
bad lighting guys
You should do an AVGN episode on Super Mario World for the Mega Drive
Yeah there was no misleading box art for NES games not at all /sarcasm
Comic books was another way to see what new games were coming out...great video.
23:19 - the d-pad on the GameCube controller sucks but on the Wii U gamepad and pro controller, it's great
Wait, how Mike doesn't have a great memory when he is so good at so many old games?
I wish I could subscribe to playlists instead of channels. Then I could subscribe to see AVGN and not two dudes rambling on a couch.
Joseph McDade "This isn't the thing that I like. I like that one thing and this isn't it. Booooo." You don't gave you watch every video, dude. If its not for you, skip it.
Wondering if Nintendo Power could be done now.
Couldn't agree more guys. And great #1 explanation.
You guys know your sh#t... totally unscripted ...speaking from pure passion!
#1 accomplishment is the fact that nintendo single handedly revived a dying industry on a whim

Alot of my early ps2 games i didnt have a memory card so I had no save games i just left the console on.
Do you understand how blessed you were to have parents that knew to tell you to save your game instead of just demanding it be turned off?
You should make this a podcast I would listen on my way to work
Fast forward to today and game companies oversaturate games with cinematics and graphics.

(TROPHY EARNED: The more you know)
You guys should do a podcast
Hey guys! I love this series!! Keep up the great work!
Also, totally agree on gamecube having one of the best controllers, been saying that for years
Can you please tell me where you bought that 8bit Mike Tyson t-shirt? I really want one.
I swear I think Mike goes out of his way to reference Monkeyball as often as possible
this should also be available as podcasts.
I really like those vedioes....keep up good work cinemassacre
I DON'T CARE WHO DOES IT BUT YOU GUYS NEEEEED TO SEE THE TRAILER FOR "Ready Player One" PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO A REACTION VIDEO FOR THIS AMAZING UPCOMING MOVIE CAN I GET SOME LIKES?!?? WHO WANTS TO SEE THEM REACT TO THE MOVIE TRAILER?!?!??!?!

PISTONREVOLER are you 10? Grow up, dude.

you guys should do one on the things every gamer should do, like zelda swordless run or beating mike tyson etc.
yeah i know thats my point. they should make a talk about games about gaming feats

You should make a movie on shitty Werewolf Movies.
28:17 PC had that 10 years prior
Gaming Historian did a great video on the D pad, i recommend it
NES controller cover image provided in thanks to AVGN: Terminator 3
This is like watching top 10 Steve Jobs Achievements.
I never had latency with the Wavebird controller..they are awesome
Great video. FYI -- Donkey Kong Country didn't use a special chip. It used pre-rendered graphics.
why this video have no contrast and have dull colors?
Come on guys turn on the lights
Gorfendan 2113 or light a candle...
Oh god the Xbox 360 Dpad was absolute suckage. Imprecise as all fuck. I hated playing Borderlands 2 on it and trying to switch weapons with the Dpad. Never went to the one I wanted. I don't know how Microsoft fucked it up so bad.
Did you film this with a NES?
Project M doesn't really have a tourney scene anymore ironically because of nintendo.
You guys should do a Sega, Atari, Sony, and Microsoft one too!
JubJub444 That's a good idea, not all praise should go to Nintendo since there are other consoles that deserve attention.
Mike and Ryan should do a tool time spoof as Tim and Al.
KWKBOX That's genius
I don't think so Tim...
Yeah, Mike in a tie and Ryan in Plaid.
One need a beard while the other one need to make goofy and dangerous design.
I was playing my switch while watching this video. I can feel the nintendo in my veins.

Doom 32x DOES HAVE SOUND. People dislike the music, that's all, but it has at least a couple good songs.
I would love to see a video about the break up between Sony and Nintendo and how the PlayStation came to be, keep up the great work guys
(0:00) Was Ryan pretending to take a bong toke before shooting? :P Love you guys! :) ;)

I was actually hoping for your personal top 10 nintendo achievements. Basically a list about what you're most proud of having done in nintendo games.
I have the best memories of playing wii sports with my family 😊
Guys, please don't reference Doom on the SNES like that was a good thing, I played it. It was limited to a tiny viewspace, the graphics were hideous, and it was constantly laggy. It disgraced the good name of Doom.
Jonathan Harrold YOU ARE FUCKING....... Right and are one of the only few people that I've ever seen with the same opinion lol
Thank you for talking about videogames. It is always a pleasure.
Surprisingly, Donkey Kong Country did not use an enhancement-chip.
The Innovative Modern Nintendo Controller that came with Systems was my #1 with the Wii Remotes, Wii U GamePad and the Switch Joy-Cons. I LOVE THAT HOW NINTENDO DID THAT !
Good timing, gonna sit down with some food and enjoy this. Cheers lads.
Ive always wanted some taco bell
Nah im outside the United States. No doubt I'll get some whenever I visit though.
rellik187redrum I would awesome he probably is.
I spent 2 months in Europe and by the time I came back I was dying for some Taco Bell. Never even really ate it that much before that, but by the time I came back I needed it. My dad picked me up from the airport and I made him stop at the drive-thru before even taking me home.

#1 revive the video game market with the nes
The Commodore 64 could've easily taken the NES' place in history with restoring the video game industry, even Sega could've done the same since they were planning on releasing the Master System in North America anyway.
Mac Main only in America

Number 1 should be all of Nintendo's bad games. They brought us James and AVGN
I love that Elvira poster. God, she is awesome!!!
And the pinball machines (Elvira and the Party Monsters, and later, Scared Stiff) are arguably some of the greatest tables ever made.
The one in my local arcade was too poorly maintained to enjoy it. Tilt sensor was wonky and the spring was awful.
Sassy Cat she's not
Sassy Cat Yeah, I wish I had an Elvira poster too. Love her!
All in all this is a pretty good list. Great video!

16:24 Ryan looks different. 😂😂😂😂😂
Sargento Dodó who's ryan?
Christoph Vw Are you serious? Jon Tron...
How did you go from Atari 2600 wireless to Nintendo64 wireless? Didn't you know that there were quite a few wireless NES controllers back in the day?
Love the content, but did you record this in some weird camera log and not color correct?
I love this series of videos you guys do
I'd take Doom 32x over the SNES version any day.
I'll take the Jaguar and PC version of DOOM over the SNES and 32x version any day.
Awesome video guys! Question! You guys coming to RetroGameCon in Syracuse NY???
Guys, Nintendo patented the dpad. The reason other dpads didn't just copy them is that they weren't allowed to. I think the patent expired recently but PlayStation dpad has its own signature look so they aren't going to change it (despite being an inferior design).
mike-san , ryan-san. You have forsaken my fam uh ree. in other words, you gentlemen have superior opinions and I enjoy every second.
Just a couple comments for what it's worth.
If I were to compile a similar top ten list as this I probably would've combined a few of your things together.

Still gave a thumbs up.
inaccurate?
It's kinda funny how the D-Pad makes the list (and it totally should) and the switch doesn't have a d-pad
I could only compare what Nintendo did for gaming industry, with what Disney Animation Studios did for Animation back in the 30's
Very good list guys. Love it
HansenPodcast thank you
I had that Logitech wireless PS2 controller.
The best aftermarket controller I've ever used!
I'd love to find that model again, so I can replace mine since it broke a few years ago! >_
