Why SGLT2 Inhibitors Cause Euglycemic DKA

- Why are we seeing so much more euglycemic DKA after the introduction of SGLT2 inhibitors? In this video I will go over why so many more Type 2 diabetic patients are coming in with DKA when this disease process was previously much more predominantly seen in Type 1 diabetic patients. I will briefly review the pathophysiology of DKA (it's a helpful thing to review imo!) and then we will see how SGLT2 inhibitors end up playing a role to create a relative insulin deficiency leading to euglycemic DKA!

Currently hospitalized from this. Thank you for the clear explanation.
Great video. I’m giving a presentation tomorrow on outpatient T2 diabetic meds and I got to SGLT2 inhibitors and scratched my head at euglycemic dka. Hopefully i can avoid getting pimp slapped tomorrow! 😅
second year med trying to refresh on this stuff before my endocrine block. thank you! you explained that so well
Nice paintings too! thanks for the explanation
Ambulatory care pharmacist resident here who is going to be presenting on weather we should or should not re-initiate SGLT2i post eDKA/DKA in patients! Appreciate the clear explanation for the mechanism :D
Really helpful! And always nice to review a little bit about DKA - I tend to always forget about it haha
Thank you, very helpful. Watching this at my sisters bedside as she is in ICU with this now. She was on Jardiance.
I just got out of 4 days in ICU for EuDKA and was also on Jardiance.
Thank you for the detailed explanation. This explanation is very helpful to understand what is going on in my body. I have just been diagnosed with EDKA caused by Synjardy to treat Prednisone indused high hba1c, which made me very sick to be admitted to the ICU. I was never a diabetic, the doctors checked my blood work for 2 years back, and there was no indication that I ever had diabetes, so the EDKA was cased by Synjardy. Thank you so much. Fantastic information I have been looking for this kind of a concise and to the point answer most of the time I get bulshit for HELP.
I got some time on my hands I will check out the other stuff as well
As an M1, its cool listening to you talk through these topics. Do you think you would ever make a video highlighting paths to different fellowships after IM?
Could you do a video on DKA/HHS management please? :) thank you!
Hi, I was wondering which stylus and trackpad you're using for this video.
Extremely helpful!!!!!
Great explanation, it finally makes sense. Thanks Conan ❤❤❤❤
Thanks helpful, from a nurse .
most article prefer the term "classical" DKA, some might prefer "typical" DKA rather than "normal DKA" to describe the most common type of DKA
Love it! Thank you for that point and for keeping me updated on the more correct terminology!
@@ConanLiuMD In my practice we're starting to move toward just calling it DKA or EKA (euglycemic ketoacidosis). Hopefully this becomes the standard as it saves 1 letter :D
dear doctor, lets solve some drug add and abstract questions from ABIM
Is it possible to have EDKA although taking NO medication whatsoever?
I hope to have a sufficient answer.

Can you do a video explaining why athletes/active people should use a Cystatin-C test to check kidney bio markers?
