      thats how all big things start man, at home.
      Christ once said "First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."
      When people see the positive changes you make in your own life theyll want to emulate you, and you'll be a in position to properly and credibly instruct them.

      There was a financial product I looked at purchasing a year and a half ago. The way it works is if the S&P 500 goes up, you get to keep it. But if the S&P 500 goes down, they will eat your losses up to a certain amount.
      I asked _"How the hell is possible? and how you are able to sell me this product and get paid yourself on something that sounds too good to be true?? If it don't make dollars, it don't make sense; and a bank is not going to repay my losses just because they're good Christians! "_
      He told me that enough people ask for their money back before the maturity of the product and pay the early-penalty to be able to pay out individuals who lose money if the S&P went down, and that when that fails, most of their revenue comes from selling zero-day expiry options to degenerates on Wall Street bets. this revenue allows them to make me whole(to an extent) if the market goes down. TL;DR, transfer of money from gamblers to long-term, boring investors.
      He spoke my language, and he got a sale. I think he got a $1,000 commission for selling me that financial product, and I don't mind paying it. I didn't know that thing existed, and it made me feel a lot more secure about putting money into something that I maybe otherwise would not have put money into. It got me out of a gambling mindset; he educated me, he got money for educating me, and I wound up doing better financially as a result.
      A lot of people are afraid to be honest about how they make their money. And some of them, *SHOULD* be afraid to be honest about how they make their money because they are actively screwing people. Some are not.
      You should never be afraid to ask. Conversely, if someone offers you value, be ok to pay for it... you get bullshit like honey from a society where nobody is willing to pay fro anything & everyone wants money for nothing(and their chicks for free)

      thats the part im surprised nobody else said, its not even the fact that it scams the people who promoted it, it scams anyone with an affiliate program no matter what. like, you could make an affiliate link for a product you genuinely have interest in and tell anyone whos interested in it, they all agree to buy it. you wake up excited that you might finally get to pay this months rent, then you see you have 0$ in your bank account because they all used a malicious browser extension you didnt even know existed and it just robbed you of all your commissions. its actually terrifying that they got away with this for so long, i couldnt imagine the amount of gaslighting people did to themselves by saying "its just a bug" or "maybe i should refresh the page..?" and never getting it...

    This video puts into words why I like my job. I'm a Tier 3 support tech for a mid-size IT support company based in Texas. I work tickets others struggle with, answer the questions of the techs around me when they're stumped, and I train a lot of the new techs in my "style" of working a ticket. I've been offered to become a team lead, but then most of my job would be watching metrics and checking others' work. I've been offered to move over to be a sysadmin, and while that would pay substantially more, I'd also be on call on weekends and at night sometimes and not work as directly with the clients. And either of those would be a stepping stone to management, which is not where I want to be because I wouldn't be putting my actual talents to work.
    I may not make as much as I could, but I like being able to help clients in my little corner of the world be happier and more productive. And I like being able to help new techs become great techs by teaching them what I know and showing them how to do the work efficiently. And I've turned down other offers for much more money to stay where I am.

      You don't need to examine browser cookies or click inspect element to do any of this. You only need to do one thing: Ask the person offering you thousands of dollars to promote a browser extension that provides you with free coupon codes how they are making the money to pay you.
      Anytime somebody offers me something that seems even remotely too good to be true, I ask them how they make their money. If they cannot provide me with a reasonable explanation, I tell them to go away. Nothing is free. And nobody's paying me without benefiting themselves.

      Honey has always been in a kind of "grey area" where it was like "obviously a free browser extension has to be doing something shady under the hood, but maybe it's just selling your personal data - other than that, it seems semi-OK." No-one could have really known the depths of the scam until it was exposed, so I'm not really disappointed about creators who have taken Honey sponsorships (as long as they address the situation honestly). Established Titles, on the other hand, was fully known to be a scam from the very start. To the point where even minutes after the first video with Established Titles as its sponsor was posted, that creator's viewers rushed to the comments to call it out for how obviously a scam it was. So I also have zero respect for creators who ever took sponsorships from Established Titles, as all creators should have higher standards and not just care about their bottom line, even though there's only so much they can reasonably be expected to be aware of.

    You make such a great point about trauma and healing through repairing things. Personally, I found it to be the most healing to learn to repair and restore broken or unwanted things. It started from looking at doctors instagram pages overseas where surgeons would repair peoples limbs and they would restore their functionality. Some of the destruction on peoples limbs were so incredibly displacing it seemed hopeless to even try but their limbs healed and they were cared for so lovingly. After the surgeon phase I began to find things and restore them. To this day almost everything, every physical object I own, is acquired secondhand or from discards. I even make my own shoes. Not only does it bring you joy to repair and create things, it shows that we care about our world and we have respect for our lives and the lives of others. Thinking critically with an open mind can bring you everything you need with what you've already got, even if it's only your two hands and the thoughts of the potential to manifest particular necessities and/or conveniences. I'm doing my part in cleaning up my little corner of the world. Repairing electronics, fixing Wifi and providing locals with cheap refurbished computers. All the while making others excited too when something is fixed again!

    Eh... some of us DID read the blog list with all you hardware on it, and actually bought a couple items because you'd been using them/we could see they were good tools. The thing is... WE didn't see a need to ask you, or say anything, really, because what are we doing? Bragging that we bought the thing you have? It would be weird. So... thank you for the list, as it's not useless, at least not to everyone.
    Been watching your videos for decades now, and I STILL am very grateful for your beginner soldering tips video a few years back. It was good for some of us who had been soldering for longer than half your viewers had been alive, as you gave very clear, concise instructions, with lots of detail, and most importantly, showed us how to not worry about it and be nervous when working on expensive, sensitive parts. I'll always be thankful for that, as it's improved my skill greatly over the years since watching it.
    Your videos have always been the best lessons for me, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Thank you, and especially thank you for being able/willing to stand up so strongly for our rights as consumers/tinkerers/repair techs. You have made a huge difference, and continue to do amazing things. Thank you! o7

    I had a guest of honour speech I had to do once, and my core message was that you may not be able to change the world, but you can change your little corner of it. And in doing so, maybe, just maybe, someone else will see that and decide they're going to follow your example. And maybe someone else will see them, and they'll make some changes. Pretty soon there's maybe 10 people doing things differently, and maybe it'll never move beyond that, but that's 10 more people than there was before you started.
    I've loved your channel and work for a while, and yeah, your grandfather rocked and so does his grandson :)

      Exactly! To both @CZpersi and @Morpheus-pt3wq 🙂
      The worst thing that bothers me, is - “secure” yourself when in public WiFi’s. Sure it helps to have a secure tunnel, but if you’re doing anything on a legitimate HTTPS website, the data is already secured by the nature of SSL. The fear mongering of security with their service is unbearable. It gets under my skin so much.
      Granted, I can see value in location spoofing if you want to get access to restricted content, but (and I do think this is just mainly because of my background and interest in software development, but I’d rather have my own VPN set up on a server that I control. Similar to what Louis has mentioned before with WireShark. If some other company is controlling the end nodes, who’s to say that VPN company isn’t selling your data right back to the people that they claim they’re “protecting” you from. Nah fam, I’m good 🙂

      Even then, with vpns, the only two people should be using are mullvad and proton. Even then I'm not sure if proton have previously handed over data, I'm a bit behind myself... I know mullvad still tells nation states to gtfo though.

Once it was revealed that NordVPN had data breaches and hid them from customers instead of reporting them, that should have been the end of Nord. And yet they still exist, people keep shilling it and people keep using it. I can't imagine trusting those scumbags with anything.

    Exactly. I've been thinking the job description "influencer" is the exact perfect description because it denotes authority AND responsibility. These people SHOULD feel the weight of their public facing job to change lives, and in that way, change society, when they are using their words to influence people.
    These people ARE influencing people, and I hope that responsibility crushes those that can't hack it and really strengthens those that can.

    • @1337Shockwav3
      @1337Shockwav3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I couldn't agree less on the responsibility part and couldn't disagree more on the authority part. No one is forced to fall for them. Responsibility goes both ways. That's why It's *really* long overdue that people get taught media competence. Never understood this whole "Influencer" BS to be begin with tbh.

    • @nfcapps
      @nfcapps หลายเดือนก่อน

      @1337Shockwav3 every person has a responsibility to seek truth and be diligent in what they present and represent to others. It's each of our responsibilities as members of a greater whole. If you willingly take on a public face, your responsibility is even greater because you have taken a mantle of informer, teacher, truth teller. Even the Bible says the public facing person in the church, the pastor, has more responsibly than the laity, and awaits a bigger punishment for messing with people in that capacity. This has always been true. It's why kings got assassinated by their people, and peasants only got beaten by other peasants when they did something wrong. (Not exclusively of course, but overall.)
      Influencers take on that mantle of informer, truth teller, "bringer of light," touchstone for all the people willingly, and they should consider that when they do. The very foundation of a low trust society is the idea of "I do what I want, it's your responsibility to make sure I'm not fucking with you, straight up lying, or purposefully trying to do you harm."
      Influencer is still the perfect title for their job. And I hope it CRUSHES those who can't hack it and strengthens those that can.
      Have a merry Christmas. I hope the reason for the season speaks light into all our hearts. Be blessed.
