    Yes, popiah has jicama with some peanuts mixed with some carrots, fried shallots etc with some sauces. Its like a vege meal.

    that black thing on the chestnuts are actually tiny rocks. This is to heat the chestnut evenly.
    And Popiah is chinese food. It laterally means thin wafer in Hokkien.

    it's more accurate to distinguish the local cuisines as Malay, Indian, and Chinese food. All of these fall under the umbrella of Malaysian food.

    The gooey noodles are called Hokkien Mee, the prawn mee is also hokkien in origin. They are Malaysian Hokkien food.

      Prawn mee in penang is called hokkien mee. But hokkien mee elsewhere is dark caramelised thick soy sauce.

    The gooey noodles prepared by the Indian man is NOT Hokkien Mee. There is a very popular stall in Chinatown itself, at the intersection inside Chinatown close to where the Chestnut vendor is, that sells authentic Hokkien Mee.

    China town is not 1 street which most tourists think. It is a larger area. You are smart to walk around. Very good eateries are like lai foong, ho kow and pik wah to name a few. They have a long history.

    There are two versions: Crispy deep fried one, and a normal type (without deep fried). That's my old time favorite breakfast and teatime snacks 'Popiah', or 'Spring Roll' usually all are vegetables and a little blended peanuts/roasted peanuts added with homemade soya sweet sauce (some like a little spicy), wrapped & rolled with a thin rice piece., perfect with a hot black coffee. Yummy! Glad to see you try this.

    Just a tip, you need to walk out there are a few streets out of petaling street there are the cafes, restaurants and food! In fact there is a cool place called rexkl and kwai chai hong, check them out!

    That black noodle is not the original noodle as the original ingredients is not chicken but pork. You can try it with chinese restaurant that sell them in chinatown or else where.

    Popiah in chinese hokkien dialect means 'thin biscuits'. In cantonese dialect is called pok peng. It can be vegetarian or with chinese sausages.

    No meat inside. It’s turnip, cucumber,beancurd in the popiah. Food are mostly at the shops and alley

    The Prawn Noodle is similar as the one you had in Lot 10, they are also sometimes called Hokkien Noodle in the north side of Malaysia. Which is confusing a bit because the dark sauce one you had earlier is the Hokkien Noodle that is called in the central side in KL hahaha and they are totaly different type of dish.

    Popia was a very old traditional , common snack food , it more to vegetarian .......
    Try not to walk along center of the road , you have shop on your left and right too . If you go there 08:00 before 11:00 grab some traditional roaster duck and pork ..you won't regret... 😘😂👍👍👏

    Snake fruit in malay is known as buah salak. Buah is fruit in malay. The snake fruit pickles are also taste good. Maybe you can try when you passing by any stall that sells pickles.

    Walk onto Jalan Sltan from Petaling Street. If yo utrn left, there's a very recommendable fruit stand that also sells delicious jiuce, and a great coffee shop at the end of the road (right hand side, not the hipster café opposite to it.). If you trn right instead, there's a great place for Indian food, and some Chinese food stalls as well.

    RM10 for mee.. that not local price... that kind of mee usually for rm5.. they charge you double... and the drink also that size of cup is rm3... maybe its tourist price.. all double

    Yeah. Clay pot should not be MYR26.00 - they over price. Street food stalls can over price for foreigners. So, it’s ok to compare prices on other stalls if can find it with that sells clay pot dishes. Request for less sweet “Kurang Manis” and half ice cube “Separuh Ais” when ordering Hot or Cold Drinks. Place your bag under the table.
