David, an old saying from the flying world. It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than it is to be in the air wishing you were on the ground.

I agree 100% with Ted Oakley on making your kids work, even if you're rich. These kids today, most don't even come from wealthy families, and yet they don't intend to be on the payroll until after they get a college degree. They really believe that being a student is a "job". Moreover, they don't even realize how fortunate they are to have nice parents that don't tell them to go out and get a part time job as teenagers, they just feel they are "entitled" to being supported that much. This is a tough world, and when you as a parent don't pass on the necessary knowledge, experience, and discipline to your kids, you put them at an inherent disadvantage. You are supposed to be their parent, not their friend.

Looking at the high inflation period of the 1970's- mid 1980's the big difference is that then much of the U.S. manufacturing base was still intact. Now it is probably 97% gone. Even a large percentage of the U.S. food production has been exported. The central bank is going to run this train right off the tracks and the train keeps picking up speed.

Ted Oakley said a key thing. We are not only living an historical time during the longest bull market in history (since 2009), the biggest qe's and fiscal easy policies, etc. There also are investors both private and professionals who trade since 10-12 years and have no experience of market crashes. The market has started to be choppy. Usually this mean the sign of a reversal and this is going to be a big lesson for many and it will hurt a lot when the catalyst will appear.

Once she discovered tips we were off to the races.

I remember being at parties in 2007 where people were bragging like crazy and then they lost their houses a couple years later. They mortgaged up their house to the max invested in the market and it all came down at once. Like Warren Buffet said, when the tide goes out you find out who was swimming without a suit.

The only things that have value are the real assets like guns, food, land etc. Any currency is just a common belief that can disappear in various situations
