Danke! Very grateful for your info - especially when you explain the “heaving”. I was just out dividing and replanting some Heuchera & this was exactly what I was wondering! Sonnige Grüße aus Frankfurt am Main (Germany Zone 8) :)Geraldine
Thanks for showing how to split them! I have a very dark purple purple (almost black) one. I've had it for a good 8/9 years. I'll tackle it this weekend and enjoy having more of this beautiful plant.
Heuchera are one of my favourite plants. Like you, I used to only be interested in flowers, but then needed ground cover for my roses and as roses need pruning every year, the bed was looking a bit bare and bland in the winter. Heuchera mean the bed looks beautiful all year round, not just when the spring and summer flowers are blooming. I wouldn't be without my flower, but I also now love colourful foliage. Also, the flowers on Heuchera, while tiny and not the main thing anyone would really grow them for, seem to be loved by bees. If the bees in my garden are happy, so am I. They're beautiful plants.
I’ve seen this 1-2 times before, but forgot! So here I am today, searching up Heuchera & no one was hitting on my questions…except your video, ofc! Mine was being pushed up…so now I know it was the winter freeze. It has bloomed, so I was thinking I just never planted it low enough & pot too small. Thanks Devin! Mr. Plant Pro QVC guy!
Thank you very much. I thought I could not grow coral bells due to my treed yard until I planted one in a pot. It has done so well that I bought three more on sale recently and potted them. Thanks again for the best information.
in the last 3 years I have fallen in love with Huechera. I want them all. One thing I learned is that you can just pinch of a section from the edge with a little of the root, and plop it straight in the ground. Most of them have rooted for me that way.
I live in PA, also and have been searching for plants for a border wall in my back yard. I will be planting a variety of them this spring. Thank you for this informative video.
Great video and very informative. Thank you so much. I planted Heuchera Dolce Cherry Truffles and Heuchera Dolce Wildberry around some golden euonymus shrubs. What a beautiful sight.
Very informative video. I too live in zone 6B Suburbs of Philadelphia (Montgomery County), and growing heuchera is a passion of mine. I have 8 different varieties that I grow in my shade gardens. Some are growing in large pots, and others are in the ground. I love the different colors.
Great video! Many thanks for sharing these wonderful plants and for your information and tips. I have so many Coral Bells and I love them. Easy care plants and gorgeous but not too showy! Take care. 👌🪴🥰
So funny I just posted a video on Heucheras in my woodland garden as well! Great minds! They are such a terrific workhorse in the shade and especially compliment our types of natural settings. Thanks, Devin!
I'm from Western Pennsylvania. I just love this plant. I have Coffee Bean, Cherry truffle, carnival cinnamon, forever red, Carmel, mahogany and I just ordered a couple more colors to add to my garden
I just discovered Heuchera this year, love them! I do have a red one that has been struggling for as long as I have had it, which is several months. I took it out of the ground and put it in a pot and I’m hoping for the best, because it will be beautiful if it can survive.
One of my favourite plants, never heard of them until this year and I have purchased some for my garden, I just hope they do well in my area. Thank you for sharing 👌👍🥰
I just planted six small containers today that I received recently from QVC. I’m in far NE PA in the Poconos, zone 5, so I hope they do well. They are in mostly shade but will get a little late afternoon sun between the trees. Here’s hoping my first Coral Bells do well! Thanks for the info in the video!
Your yard is beautiful love the Maple tree I’m glad you talked about this plant I did not know the foliage came in different colors thank you for the info
Hello and thanks for the information, Devin. I live in zone 8a and I have 5 Heucheras in pots. They are doing very well. They have the long stems of flowers that I’m not sure if I should cut. I don’t want to interfere with the plant’s performance. Surprisingly, I only had one come back that I planted in the ground and I’ve decided to let it do its thing and keep a watch on it. I do love these plants and the different colors available. Thanks for sharing.🌺
You can allow the flowers to bloom and then cut them off! Have you seen my video about spring care for coral bells? Here in zone 6b that treatment tends to be necessary
Thank you for the information. I just ordered a purple one for my husband (purple is his favorite color) - I just need to find a semi-shady spot. We are in So, California so I need to keep them out of the blazing summer/fall sun.
Zone 6, Eastern Washington. Wow, I've been doing it wrong!! I thought the heaving was winter freeze damage so I have been covering mine with ponderosa pine needles like my roses(minus the compost and fert). I considered the small retention of foilage and color as a sign of success but I've had enough failures that could of easily been fixed with planting deeper and dividing!🤦 Thanks for the information, adds a whole couple steps to my arsenal thank you for saving my plants lol!!!
Have you seen this video? Now that you know how to keep them happy, I totally recommend a spring shearing, it makes the growth each spring so nice and fresh Heuchera Coral Bells Spring Cleaning th-cam.com/video/kNZF6aOYuD4/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for the info , I have these around my pond areas and trying to grow a small one in water before I plant it. I have planted a few in pots and will be transplanting them this year. And with your very informative video here I may be able to split some that I have around the pond that I love the colors and put elsewhere. If you have any other tips please let me know, Thank you !
I am currently featuring the Eye Spy variety in a deep shade bed that I can see from the back of the house/patio area. It's the light limey green with deep red veining.
👍 Maybe next year you can plan a drip tape on a timer so your plants can get water because a drought can happen anywhere. Not even grass can survive it and would be a lot to ask of a plant, I believe, to survive on no water. 🙂
Very helpful, thank you. I was wondering why my Kukura were growing these long dried out stocks underneath them. Heaving is the answer! Will bury them deeper.
Hi! Great information and awesome to see your passion. My wife and I recently planted huechera and we have something eating them. Do you have recommendations on how to prevent them from being eaten? I am not certain what is eating them. We have lots of deers in our area, some rabbits, and plenty of other rodents.

Hi Devin, Would you please do a video on something that will grow under a 40 year old tree (Linden) amongst the surface roots? Bonus points for evergreen! I am trying to avoid Pachasandra since I understand it is invasive when birds plant it in woodlands. I only recently discovered your channel and we also live in Phila. suburbs. Thank you for your help.
Absolutely Stunning ! So fortunate to have such a 'Woodsy' yard. Also Love that Japanese Maple !!! Now, just add a clump of Cinnamon Ferns for interest :)
Just finding you, thanks for the video it was helpful. What kind of Japanese Maple is that? I'm looking for one that doesn't get any bigger than what you have.
Thanks! Unfortunately it was already at the home when I moved here so I’m not sure which one it is. But you can find resources online that will give lots of specs on different kinds of Acer palmatum
I enjoyed your video, I'm going to plant some of these for the first time this upcoming growing season. Which is your favorite bright purple/plum colored variety? Thanks!
Just found you. Thanks. I lucked into a huechera with very pretty pink flowers that lasted a long time. But they are done and spiky nothings. Do i cut them, break them off randomly or pull them? I have the same question about some others that I have that are producing profuse flowers, but the flowers are pretty ugly. How do I pick them or cut them?
Beginner here in Cleveland … how do I know if my soil is rich? I don’t think mine is … I think it has heavy clay I’m not sure. How would I prep the flower bed?
Heucheras haven't done very well for me. I'm wondering whether it's just too dry, or if they need fertilizer, or what? They are about five years old and they're no bigger than they were five years ago. I think they're smaller.
Do they have any cora bells that are as large as a hosta plant to plant on side of my house near house but it has colored leaves instead of green or yellow, I'm looking for shades of red or purple? I want it to fill in space on side of house and have a beautiful pop of color and easy hopefully to care for.
Dude treating his plants like a red headed step child and says “god I love these…especially the black and blues, can u see that….just loves talking back” lol love your videos…psycho dad

Such stunning foliage
Your enthusiasm about Heuchera plants is contagious. I’m bought a planter today for my garden
Make sure to watch my spring cleaning video on heuchera as well next spring, it’s a sure fire way to make them look good after winter!

Very informative,, now let me go outside and replant those poor plants that was heaved out of the ground that I thought was just dying.thanks.
Same…lol…
Great video and very informative. Thank you so much. I planted Heuchera Dolce Cherry Truffles and Heuchera Dolce Wildberry around some golden euonymus shrubs. What a beautiful sight.
Ooooh I love that combo!!
I agree with you. Flowers just die. I cant manage that all the time. But foliage. Thats the way to go😅😅😅

Thanks for the video. I’m learning about Huechera plants. I bought one yesterday for my garden/container. I like the color and foliage.
Theyre awesome both in the garden and in pots!
Most charming gardening youtuber🎉
☺️
👌 Very informative. I’m probably going to switch out my hostas for heuchera next season 🪴
I wouldn’t take the hostas out, inter plant them together, they work well together!
Love these and planted 8 this year
awesome!! i think ive planted about 20 so far
I found this the most informative yet! I learned alot.

I live in zone 7B & fortunately they are evergreen here. I love them bcz they are so easy to care for. I group them with ferns & hostas.

Love this perennial. I have 2 that never lose their foliage. I’m in Southern Ontario ( Barrie ) 🇨🇦. Thanks for the info 💚
wow thats incredible!!
This is nice to hear. I also live in southern Ontario (Stoney Creek) and wasn't sure how these would do in our area.

Good job. Just what I needed to know.

Oops. I just planted a dozen heuchera under a mature red maple. I'll have to be vigilant about watering them. Thanks for the info. 😊
Give them some nice mulch if you can!
My wife has these plants in our garden and a beautiful black pearl one in our conservatory despite its not sold as an indoor plant.
Wow I’m impressed it does well for you indoors!
Great informative video! I have been looking for plants for the north side of my house. These are going to be perfect! 🌱
sweet! thats where i planted mine
I bought my house 19 years ago, and there has been a coral bell in my backyard planted by the previous owner.

Yes absolutely!!

I have a Japanese maple and I planted a few under it.
It’s a great combo!
Zone 6 here as well. Northeast PA, are coral bells a good companion with hostas?
Yes great companions
Nice! I live in California. Wish me luck.😅
Keep ‘em well shaded!
I have a lot of problems with getting holes in the leafs any idea what causes this? I water daily and some are in shade some in partial shade
Does it look like chewing holes? If so you’ll want to inspect your plants to see what could be doing it

Perhaps a Loropetalum might fill the niche
I can grow them well in so cal zone 10b but in shade only
Oh wow I am surprised they do well in zone ten, that’s awesome
Do they do well indoors? I live in Southern Texas.
No they don’t unfortunately

Wish you would have discussed recommended fertilizing……otherwise excellent info.
All herbaceous perennials like these will benefit from an application of slow release fert like osmocote in the spring
R u the Waleen family that is on hsn qvc?
Yep that’s me and my family!
Do they grow in zone 10b, south Florida?
unfortunately i would say that is too warm for them to do well
How close together do you plant?
12” is fine
Can be put in a pot? In a shadey
Yes
Do you cut back the flowers after blooming?
It’s not necessary but you can if they look straggly
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
:)
No wonder my corral bells do well I’m in Tennessee literally surrounded by trees
Yes they love that!
I wanted some but I am in high desert zone 5. I doubt they will survive.
You’re probably corrext
Are they deer resistant
For the most part
How about zone 8. Hot humid SC
The Heuchera villosa hybrids perform the best in that heat!
I love these plants but after 2 years died . This summer was very dried and few died .
Ahhh dang, perhaps more shade was needed?
My red type is doing great as north facing California blondes 😂
😂
Rabbit ate my coral bells!😂
Noooo
They are native to America.
🤩
If you don’t have time to go out and water and if they die then you to take more time to plant others lol
True but in the long run
Too much talking. Get on with it
👍👍
How long to the flowers last on these plants. I bought some Black Forest Cake, and I'm hoping the cherry red flowers last all summer.
They typically remain for a solid 6 weeks or so
