Hi Clint, I have seen lizards from the Canary Islands (Spain), who look like tegus. Can I send them to you, and tell me what they are? I would like them as pets. what email adress can I reach you?
I took one look at the green keel-bellied lizard's tail and my first thought was "Please be a prehensile tail. Oh please be a prehensile tail." I'm always so fascinated by creatures with prehensile tails.
Just for your information, I've had one of these and he definitely did drop his tail once after getting it caught in some cork bark in the enclosure, frightened by the misting system. The tail grew back full length, as an exact clone of the tail he lost.
I can confirm this to be true, they absolutely can and will drop their tail. It happened to me, but it grew back nearly perfect. A lot better than other regrown tails I've seen in other species. Do not grab your keelie by the tail!
Hey Clint!!! I have a green keel-bellied lizzard and i must say you are SPOT ON! I bought one because i didint have the money for a green tree monitor! I would also add that this lizzard is REALY active during the day. I feed mine around noon and the lizzard hunts for hours, even sometimes he is so active he distracts me while working because of the noise of him running around! I've only had him a couple of months and i absolutly love him!
Clint, it's people like you that make this world just that much better. You have such an excellent, calm, and charismatic demeanor. You seem genuinely kind, and gentle. You are a fantastic example of a good person. I love watching your videos, and I learn quite a bit. Thank you for doing what you do!
I got a male in december last year and he definitely IS the BEST pet for me! He's one year old, cbb and went from "ewww a human!" to "oh hi, hello human, can I take a run all over you for the 27th time today?" within 2 weeks! He's SO beautiful, interactive, curious, intelligent and goofy! I honestly never thought I could fell in love with a lizard that much but I would get a thousand more of them in the blink of an eye without thinking twice! 😍
Hey Clint’s Reptiles team, I have been following you guys from the very start and I just wanted to say that I’ve so rarely seen someone with the shear amount of love for reptiles and animals in general (aside from maybe snake discovery and Kamp Kennan) I look forward to every video and I watch them all with my bearded dragon Elyot. Speaking of which Elyot is bobbing as I write this (I’m taking that as him saying hi) Also I love telling people that birds are reptiles and watching the reactions after reluctantly looking it up!
I got the keel bellied lizard at CnB that Clint missed! He is amazing! Is a little timid. I have him in a 4’x4x2. I have wanted a cbb one for years and got one!
I repeatedly watched this video and found after repeatedly scouring the booths at an expo for hours. He has been a treat over the past few months. Thank you, Clint!
It was so cool to see this video! My wife always wanted a keel-bellied lizard but I wasn't so sure. But we both have our own reptile interests so when she found a nice captive-bred specimen, we brought him home and put him in a bioactive enclosure after his quarantine. Oh my gosh. I'm so glad she got this lizard. He is one of my favorite pets now! He is SOOO personable. I don't handle him at all because I have cats, but sometimes he gets on my hand anyways. Every time I come into the room he comes out to watch me. He almost seems to enjoy me talking to him when I mist his tank or prune his plants. He is always out in the open. He is so funny at feeding time. He has such a vibrant personality. I couldn't speak highly enough about him. If you can get a captive-bred keel-bellied lizard, DO IT! They are awesome!
As long as wild caught animals are kept to the minimum, they should only be purchased by breeders that are aiming to improve the genetic diversity of their breeding stock and the captive population.
First off Clint I have to thank you on your presentation and how you explain all these different reptiles. Makes it easier to introduce my kids to them. I also have never heard of this lizard either. Always a treat with your videos thank you and enjoy the Amazon
Things to expect in the rainforest: (a) Mud. (b) Spiny things. (c) Ants. Lots and lots of ants. If you slip due to (a) resist the temptation to grab for a branch due to (b) and (c). I recommend a walking stick for this reason.
Always a treat to watch your program. I have a sub adult Green keel belly lizard 🦎 you are on the nose in your description and temperament of these wonderful reptiles. I have many lizards and reptiles as pets, but the keel belly is my number one favorite, mine will jump on to my arm as soon as the lights are on and, I open its enclosure , waiting to be fed. Unfortunately it lost part of its tail prior to purchase, as a result of a clumsy sales person,Thankfully it grew back 80% of the original.
Clint, have you ever kept a Desert Iguana? I had one as a kid 50 years ago, and it was not just the best pet lizard, but one of the best of any type of pet I ever had (lots!)
I agree. I have a male Desert Iguana for over 10 years now (that was already a full grown adult when I bought him and is the longest lived lizard I ever care for) and he's still eating a large salad almost every day. It took a couple of years for him to calm down (he would dash as soon as he saw my hand entering his tank) but then we bonded and he trusts me 100% They're a perfect little handful of a lizard. Wish they were more plentiful in the reptile market.
Love the video! I have a CB GKB Lizard too. His name is Turq and he's over a year old. Mine used to be very wary but he trusts me now and comes out willingly to climb on me :) Fascinating, intelligent lizards! 🦎
I got a pair half a year ago - but the female I got as a baby, while the male was already a sub-adult, both CB (they're in separate tanks). The male is pretty reclusive, he wasn't socialized well. But the female is AMAZING. She's literally my favorite lizard I've ever had, emerald tree skink levels of personable, totally curious, jumps out onto my hand whenever. Great lizards!
Absolutely lovely lizard! That color! I have one crested gecko, and that's the only lizard I can keep. My place is very small and I've got a cat and a dog. But, Clint, I still love to watch your videos because I can learn something new and see something beautiful. Thanks for what you do.
Captive bred just seems kinder to the animal and it's stress, I wonder how they got my poor snake, but also you have to be a responsible breeder I've heard a little bit about this spider web ball pythons. That's really bad. I know Clint that you are making sure that they have great homes, and that these are the happiest little green babies they could be! Thank you for being an awesome human 💚💚💚💚💚💚
That's one really glorious lizard and that long tail is incredible. Looks like something you'd see in a dream. I'm so looking forward to seeing the Amazon trip video.
So I was thinking, why not for Thanksgiving you review turkeys as pets, I have kept them and I would rate them 2 for handlability, 4 for care, hardiness 4 bc as chicks or poults they are super easy to kill but fully grown they are rock solid, 5 for available, and 2 for upfront costs.
This species is amazing. It belongs in the same family as most common European lizards, but it is arboreal. In Europe, most lizards are able to climb but no species is truly arboreal. Maybe they have those keeled scales to have a better grip on branches. Most lizards of the lacertid family have very long tails and drop them easily. However, not all drop them. The Balkan green lizard for example loses its ability to drop the tail in adulthood, as found from a study in Greece. However, they still regrow it if it is broken. Those lizards are very curious and omnivorous. Even in the wild if you are gentle around them, they can approach you and even feed near you. However, they don’t tolerate catching and handling at all and dart away immediately.
An emerald tree skink with a comically long tail? Sounds like a winner to me! Random reptile question for a anyone who might be able to help me. If you want to get a little more fancy (and spend a little bit more money, though still not insanely expensive), raphidophora descursiva is equally tough, has a slightly different look, and grows a little bit slower, so it won't eat a vivarium overnight. Keep in mind both of these plants can get huge unpruned, but so can pothos (actually, mature pothos is even larger than mature raphidophoras), so you're going to have to do some trimming every couple months. I was being a bit checky with that comment. No doubt I was anthropomorphizing them in some way. Though that applies I think of people as centrally heated moving trees, which is a bit weird.
You're good. I only said something because I used to say basically the same thing to people, "be an interesting tree". But as I have spent more time with them, it has become obvious that they don't think of us as trees at all. It is easy to get them to go from one of my hands to the other, or from one of your hands to the other, but they are hesitant to go from one of your hands to one of my hands or vice versa. They know which person they are on, and they put serious thought into changing people.

The disposition of the WC vs CB in these are pretty much the same as the Green Ameiva. The only differences I can see right away would be tank sets ups and the overall size of the adult animal. The prices are very different as well. For now. I've had my long term captive Green Ameiva(he's a Florida Man) will jump on my chest for food because my arms are not as easy to grip, which looks like a hug to my family and they get a big kick out of that during feeding time. One plus i can see here, is that they don't seem to be aggressive at all, where as the Green Ameiva Males can deliver quite the bite if you misstep. I really hope you're reading these because Green Ameivas get such a bad rap due to being invasive in Florida.
Saw one today at my local exotics store. It was at the door of the enclosure, scrabbling against the glass and trying to attack my fingers. Very eye catching!
I'm back from the Amazon! Join us LIVE today to talk all about it! th-cam.com/video/oG66TQWbkvo/w-d-xo.html

Can you make a video about Takydromus smaragdinus? Thinking of getting a pair next month. Cheers from Sweden
You NEED to make a video about Velvet worms and six lined racerunner lizards.

That is such useful information to share, thank you so much. I adore this community
So it's still prehensile? That's awesome!
So it was still functional and not wonky and stuff?

That is so true
Oh my goodness. Look at those babies. So cute!! Well, looks like there's another reptile to add to my bucket list!
Just when I thought Clint couldn’t get any cooler. He uses Kelvins when informing viewers on the temperatures needed to keep a new species of lizard.

@stevensacripanti3574 how's it going? How is the handleability?
Gus Gus leaning into those pets like a happy cat just made my day. Never seen so much affection on a reptile's face!!!
The color of those is amazing. So cute that that baby appeared to just fall asleep sitting on your hand.
The color of those babies...STINKIN RAD

I wish Clint was around when I was younger so I could've had him at my birthday party instead of ....Barney *shivers*.... the flashbacks alone lol
Their tails are so funny! You’d think that length would be a disadvantage but clearly evolution chose it for a reason

So excited!!!!! My boi is shedding so I'm watching the video with the doggos
I have a cbb juvenile male that is the cutest thing ever very curious he's also super docile doesn't mind being handled never tries to bite

I think that the 8x12 should work. If I'm not mistaken you want it to cover around a third of the bottom.
It's always a great day when you upload, Clint!

I love prehensile tailed animals, so this was great to see.

After countless insta posts, we finally have keel-belly video. Lesgo
I have been waiting for this video forever thank you 😀

I’ve got mine in a bio active, but he’s super active and tends to trample all the plants I buy from Josh’s Frogs.
If you are willing to prune regularly (it grows fast), raphidophora tetrasperma is very, very sturdy. They're sold as houseplants at places like Home Depot, but if you can't find it locally, it's easily purchased online and generally not expensive.
You have such a calm, friendly disposition, that is the essential ingredient to breeding reptiles, and humans. Enjoy spending time just handling them . Expect nothing from them, other than to live forever.
And you don’t ever swat them with a rolled up magazine. Splat is bad.
They're so cool. They look like tiny monitors!
The emerald tree skinks must think of people as comfortable, centrally heated moving trees which is why they are so eager to jump on you.
They definitely don't think that. They know which person they are on, and they will gladly leave their much warmer basking spot to come see a human.
I was being a bit checky with that comment. No doubt I was anthropomorphizing them in some way. Though that applies I think of people as centrally heated moving trees, which is a bit weird.
