I mean, considering they grant you pretty much unlimited power and were made by GODS (according to the Japanese manual for Sonic 2), then yeah, they are.
what i found interesting is that if you dodge all the bombs in 7th stage you can catch the emerald in roughly 6 seconds while on 1st stage you have to consistently use boost till 80% of the track to catch the first emerald
Fun fact! Team Rose is the best team to get the emeralds, not because of the short level length (though that certainly helps). Its actually because, for some reason, Big is the fastest character in special stages.

These special stages are the reason I could never complete the full game as a kid. It was only recently that I discovered the special stage exploit where you could beat them easily.

ChaosRayZero there were two types of special stages with each having their own theme. This one was for the emerald special stages and in the challenge there was a ‘time limit’ of sorts meaning the end of the song loop would never play, this video is edited so that that missing part is at the start of the song, hence his confusion. And all the songs in game were on that sound test thing, including any jingles or cutscene background music
It is... in the 3DS version, which actually has special stages (but no Super Sonic, good one Dimps) that are basically the Sonic Heroes stages done right.

To this day this is truly one of my few number one favorite tracks from the game; I still have own the Sonic Heroes video game for the Nintendo GameCube. And I believe when it comes down to completing the Emerald Stages, I get em all with Team Sonic cause they are the ones who turn into super form in order to take down Metal Sonic.
I did it as Rose as their mission's were way shorter than anyone else's so you wouldn't have as much level to play without getting hit. I did their Team last and got some Emeralds along the way
I was trying to collect the final Chaos Emerald for the l o n g e s t time as Team Rose, retrying Final Fortress over and over, the second I switch to Big in the special stage, I was able to catch the Emerald first try in less than a minute. I was... slightly aggravated. Yes, a little peeved. :>

Also for some reason i always imagined that at 3:11 some random guy with a guitar does a triple frontflip entrance, proceeds to play the little solo part, then backfips out at exactly 3:22. Easier to get to the special stage, but Team Rose has the worst overall team stats, so if you’re struggling with the stages themselves, try Team Sonic or Dark, who both have the highest stats
Why everyone remembers the bonus challenge verison to the point where it's used more than this track is a mystery to me I listened to both of the tracks and I can rightfully say this is better than the bonus version this is criminally underated in appose to the alternate track used

I got all the emeralds first try up until the 7th one -_- Then it took like 2 hours of me playing Acts 1 and 2 of the fleet levels, just to get more attempts. I ultimately couldn't get it by normal means and had to try the cheesy method of just regular running on the ceiling which worked first try. Good times. It was PC version by the way.

Special Stage strats: Mash B to conserve boost energy. Hold B for maximum speed. I recommend mashing B until you get near the emerald, then start holding B to quickly catch it. If you hold B the whole way through you'll keep running out of boost energy. Also NEVER jump, you'll lose all your speed instantly. And turning too sharply or while going downhill can make you lose speed due to the jank physics.
It takes too long to access these chaos emerald special stages with all the Team via normal stages because levels take a long time to complete with a key in your hand, so my best strategy is to Play Side Missions on Act 2 Stages with Team Rose, Grab the key, collect 100 rings, and done You’re in the special stages. That is the fastest and easiest way to access them.
Sonic Heroes has the most easiest special stages. You don’t even have to press dash button. You just have to adjust your angle inside the pipe when about to go through curve path.
this game it's amazing but i never finished it i think i'm gonna play it on the ps2 emulator because sonic heroes it's a very fun videogame from 2003 and i also liked playing rayman3 hd the remastered version of rayman3 for ps3 that rayman game it's another awesome game from 2003

Red, yellow, green, cyan, blue, magenta, and white. The Emeralds have kept these colors for most of the series.
I just realized this song has a huge Splatoon vibe...(yeah I know, this game is way older than Splatoon, but still).
I’ve always been disappointed that this track never came back whenever they brought back the Sonic Heroes special stages.
