I actually feel bad for Metal Sonic. Imagine being convinced that you are real, and theres this other you, who always beats you, and your friends are terrified of you. The boy's having an identity crisis.
I love the idea of this song not being Sonics theme, or Metals theme, but a duet. Metal is trying to prove he's the real Sonic, that he has purpose. Sonic is proving to Metal that his humanity and friends are what make him special, not his abilities or 'data' as it was presented in Heroes.
I've always thought that Metal Sonic prior to becoming Metal Overlord was terrified of having no purpose. When he transforms, one of his lines is 'See me as I am, no longer afraid of anything!', clearly showing that he was afraid of something before. I like to think that he was crippled with the idea of not being a real being, and just a robot made to destroy. That his only purpose was to serve someone above him, and so when Heroes rolls around, he's had enough of being treated like a pawn, or a fake copy. 'I can fight the feeling to resist it all the time, but when it's just too much to take you sneak up from behind.' Like Gamma, he wants to be more than just a slave to Eggman. He wants to mean something, to achieve something. And seeing all of the other robots either die or leave Eggman didn't help, either. 'Like a million faces, I recognize them all. And one by one, they've all become a number as they fall.' This line doesn't make much sense from Sonic's perspective, but it does for Metal. Along the way, Metal becomes delusional, and he believes that he's genuinely the real Sonic. He wants to be able to prove himself to the world, to show everyone what he's made of. Hence begins his master plan to achieve his main goal: to destroy Sonic. 'Cause what I have in my two hands is enough to set me free'. If he can achieve this goal, he would prove multiple things. First, he would 'prove' that he is the real Sonic. And secondly, he would prove that he's more than just a robot. He would prove that he was now his own master. Sadly, after his defeat in Heroes, Metal seems to lost almost all of his free will, no longer being able to speak. This is most likely thanks to Eggman removing Metal's free will to ensure that something like this would never happen again, dooming the robot to be trapped as a pawn forever. In the end, Metal failed.
He does show a semblance of a personality in Rivals 2, where he's willing to damage himself in order to save Shadow, despite having no orders to do so. That means he's not completely gone.
Most games have imposing melodies that are meant to scare you and make the final scary, Sonic, on the other hand, make YOU the imposing figure, and the boss is scared of YOU.

what i like about Metal Overlord is that prior to Mephiles, he's technically the most dangerous enemy that Sonic ever faced since he basically have the power and data of almost every single antagonist prior to Heroes, which is kinda insane to think about
Well, it is mentioned in supplementary material that Metal lost his marbles prior to Heroes. So if he can switch that easily between claiming Sonic is his copy, and then say he was created to defeat him, it's safe to assume the bot is completely out of his gourd.

"Look down at all of my accomplishments as you like... Now that I'm proud to be this "monster" that I've become, all living things shall look up to me as their undisputed overlord!" Metal Overlord (Japanese Version).
Woah as much as I like the English version of Metal's dialogue that sounds so much more impressive as a boast and reflects more on Metal's arrogance and megalomaniacal nature while also taking pride in what he has accomplished; usurping Eggman, manipulating the four teams into gathering onto the final fortress to get their data(what that means I'm not entirely sure yet), and becoming the most powerful machine in the world. Strangely yet ironically the quote also makes him similar to Sonic in that he won't be deterred by what others think of him and that he'll do what he wants or thinks is right (think of Sonic's portrayal in Sonic and the Black Knight). Last thing; on the subject of the japanese version of Sonic media in Sonic X Eggman gave Chris an astounding verbal sucker punch but the japanese dub was even better so much so that it needs to be heard or read on! ps. sorry for the unexpected wall of text but thanks for sharing this quote it's sounds more interesting what we already had.
The Japanese scripts of Sonic games are always stronger than the localisations. There's always some sort of underselling or missing the point of certain scenes being done in the English versions for some reason.
When does he says such thing? I looked up Japanese version, before transforming there is only 1 line where be says 'all living will kneel before me' just like in English version
@@korpersafte He says that a few moments after he says "Show me then. Show me what you're made of against this brand new me! As I am no longer afraid. I shall never be afraid of anything!" Which comes after Sonic says "It's not over yet, let's show him what we're made of!" in the Japanese version.
Someone said that this was originaly going to be the main theme of the game, but they changed it to Sonic Heroes (song) But i'm not sure if this is real Probably not
It's crazy to think that when this game came out a whole decade passed since the last time we saw Metal Sonic as a main villain in CD. Metal is one of my favorite characters and I flipped my lid when I learned he was back in Heroes.
Metal Overlord: "Long time no see, Sonic, my loathsome copy!" Metal Overlord: "Sonic, I was created for the sole purpose of destroying you. But I can never seem to defeat you! That is why I transformed my body with my own hands!" Super Sonic: "Here we come! You all ready?" Tails: "Of course!" Knuckles: "We're with you until the end!" Super Sonic: "Hmph! You actually thought you could defeat me by transforming into a monster?!" Metal Overlord: "But that was the past! Now you're nothing but a speck of dust to me!" Knuckles: "Man, he's tough!" Tails: "Is he invincible?!" Super Sonic: "It's not over yet! Let's show him what we're made of!" Metal Overlord: "See me as I am; no longer afraid of anything! I shall become the ultimate overlord, ruling as the world's most supreme being!" Metal Overlord: "NOOOO! Why, I had it all! I am the ultimate overlord, Metal Sonic! I am the REAL Sonic!" Tails: "Yeah! WE DID IT!" Knuckles: "Phew! That was pretty tough!" Super Sonic: "Too bad it's all over... for you!"
+SonicStar917 What i love about this game is that it mixes Modern and Classic, but unlike Generations, this is entirely 3D and doesn't make alternate time versions of characters
"Hmph! You actually thought you could defeat me by transforming into a monster!?" "Too bad it's all over... FOR YOU!" Best badass phrases Sonic has ever said.

Cyrus Cyan Honestly, I would LOVE a proper Mario and Sonic game. The characters seem as though they would have great chemistry, and there could be jokes about both franchises (Eggman’s similarity to Mario design wise, Eggman commenting on how it felt that ‘he had done something like this before’ when helping Bowser kidnap Peach, etc)
Regentaltax 07 but the Olympics is a proper game. The two would not go well together Mario is always been about exploration and tight puzzle like platforming, sonic on the other hand is about speed, style, and branching pathways based on your momentum.
*NO ONE CAN DEFEAT ME! NOT SONIC, NOT YOU, NOT ANYONE!* -Metal Overlord mere seconds before eating the entire USA's defense budget because he made the black hedgehog mad.
Eggman: "Can you hear me, Sonic? Regular attacks are useless now! Attack it using Team Blast!" Amy Rose: "I think you can blast through his crystal attack using your speed. Sonic, you can do it!" Rouge: "Counter his flying attack with Thunder Shoot! Tails, you can do it!" Vector: "We have to counter the battleships he throws with power! Knuckles, show him your powerful punches, okay? Don't hold back anything!" Charmy: "Use Light Attack by pressing the ⬜/B/X button while jumping when Sonic's the leader! This defeats his attacks, but it sucks up your rings!" Shadow: "You won't be able to move when he casts Chaos Control. Turn the Left Analog Stick, Left Thumbstick, Control Stick quickly to minimize the stop time!" Espio: "Even when he's invisible, he'll briefly appeared when he attacks! Pay close attention so you can locate his position!" Cream: "Everyone, watch your ring count! You won't be able to use Super Transformation of you lose all your Rings!" Big: "Don't forget to collect rings and use formation attacks to keep the Team Blast gauge full."
Metal Overlord would be AWESOME in Generations. The bad thing is that past bosses don't have you playing as Super Sonic, so how would that work? Maybe you could be running on airships towards Metal or something.
To be honest, I would have preferred for the game to have some sort of ‘secret’ final boss after all red star rings are collected - maybe Metal Overlord boosted up on the remains of the Time Eater?
According a gamer's expierience, the final levels of this game were both, at first, supposed to take place on the ocean. That's why not only the ships of Eggman's fleet look like fish, but also you'll confront Metal Overlord on the water, instead of in the sky.
Easily the best final boss fight and song out of any Sonic game! The whole entire fight felt so damn intense hearing this song and Metal Sonic’s voice! The fact that this is Crush 40's favorite song is just amazing!
yeah true me too bc the stupid thing is the game not tell you when you finish the all story teams you will get in the right side on the screen one more thats the stupid thing the game never tells you that and when we was a kids one friend think we see metal sonic only in cutscenes but i say that not have logic and then i find everything on youtube and then i finsh the game on full thats the problem on this gmae she not tell you how to find the last story first i not expect it to she be on the right side on the all heroes thats was the stupid part
What i love about this song is that its just vague enough that it can be interpreted in many different ways (like live and learn), even a "love" song! It could represent feelings of rejection, trying to prove to them your "too good for them", and even stalking!
Nah, it's still on Wii U. You should look at a tutorial on TH-cam, they can explain it better than me. If you plan on doing it, make sure you don't have the most recent update installed, because it disables mods and can't be uninstalled
This song feels like the challenge accepted from both Sonic and Metal Sonic respectively. They both will show each other exactly what they're capable of, what they were nearly born to do... what they're MADE of.
The best part about this song is that it’s not played in-game at aLl until the final boss, the other final boss themes are medleys of the game’s overall main theme but this one is a special lil reserved track
We’re getting Shadow & Some SA2 content, but from the looks of the trailer, it seems we might actually be getting either Metal Sonic in this movie or as a post credit scene
I may never have reached the true final boss of this game, but it was my first Sonic game, and this song has a special place in my heart as a result. Also helps that it's genuinely one of Crush 40's best works.

That metal overlord voice was amazing but the og voice was better that did it deserves a raise
Just Like: Sonic X Shadow Generations!
what i like about Metal Overlord is that prior to Mephiles, he's technically the most dangerous enemy that Sonic ever faced since he basically have the power and data of almost every single antagonist prior to Heroes, which is kinda insane to think about
Metal Overload should of been a Generations boss
Edit: He’s in Sonic X Shadow Generations. Sega how did you remember this 7 year old comment???
I would've had him over perfect chaos, or maybe even over the time eater
Good idea
Yeah I use this song as the song for the Time Eater boss because Metal sonic is just so much better
lol me too
well, you fight metal sonic...it s the first "rival battle", following shadow and silver.
"Long time no see, Sonic. My loathsome copy!"
"Sonic, *I was created for the sole purpose of destroying you.* "
you just said that he was the copy...
Wtf true facts
The Japanese version makes more sense.
Instead of: _"My loathsome copy"_ it's: _"My imperfect self"_
Well, it is mentioned in supplementary material that Metal lost his marbles prior to Heroes. So if he can switch that easily between claiming Sonic is his copy, and then say he was created to defeat him, it's safe to assume the bot is completely out of his gourd.
Gee, it's almost like not everything said is literal :3
Metal's gone quite insane at this point, so it makes sense he'd think he was both the original AND a copy!
HE'S BACK!!!
Cringe alert
@KennethV2000 If, by cringe, you mean getting excited for a returning boss in the upcoming game, then yes. 🙃
YEAH!!!
HE'S BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK
@@KennethV2000Omg a Sonic fan freaking about the boss from where this music originated from #cringe because I’m so fucking edgy they’re literally just excited to see metal overlord again lmao
Metal Sonic: "Long time no see, Sonic. My loathsome copy."
Shadow: "Ugh, for crying out loud..."
This supports my case of Neo being Sonic from the future
When does he says such thing? I looked up Japanese version, before transforming there is only 1 line where be says 'all living will kneel before me' just like in English version
@@korpersafte He says that a few moments after he says "Show me then. Show me what you're made of against this brand new me! As I am no longer afraid. I shall never be afraid of anything!" Which comes after Sonic says "It's not over yet, let's show him what we're made of!" in the Japanese version.

No, I do as well, it represents both Sonic and Metal Sonic.

WE’RE GETTING A METAL OVERLORD BOSS
It's crazy to think that when this game came out a whole decade passed since the last time we saw Metal Sonic as a main villain in CD. Metal is one of my favorite characters and I flipped my lid when I learned he was back in Heroes.
“I AM THE KING OF ALL CREATION! NOBODY CAN DEFEAT ME! NOT YOU! NOT SONIC! *NOT ANYONE!!!”*
“You can't hope to defeat me! Accept your fate, you fake hedgehog! I am now the TRUE Sonic! The *TRUE* Ultimate Life Form!!”
Shadow: True Ultimate Life Form? Don’t make me laugh. You’ll be joining the rubble in the water soon.
Metal Overlord: "Long time no see, Sonic, my loathsome copy!"
Metal Overlord: "Sonic, I was created for the sole purpose of destroying you. But I can never seem to defeat you! That is why I transformed my body with my own hands!"
Super Sonic: "Here we come! You all ready?"
Tails: "Of course!"
Knuckles: "We're with you until the end!"
Super Sonic: "Hmph! You actually thought you could defeat me by transforming into a monster?!"
Metal Overlord: "But that was the past! Now you're nothing but a speck of dust to me!"
Knuckles: "Man, he's tough!"
Tails: "Is he invincible?!"
Super Sonic: "It's not over yet! Let's show him what we're made of!"
Metal Overlord: "See me as I am; no longer afraid of anything! I shall become the ultimate overlord, ruling as the world's most supreme being!"
Metal Overlord: "NOOOO! Why, I had it all! I am the ultimate overlord, Metal Sonic! I am the REAL Sonic!"
Tails: "Yeah! WE DID IT!"
Knuckles: "Phew! That was pretty tough!"
Super Sonic: "Too bad it's all over... for you!"
+SonicStar917 What i love about this game is that it mixes Modern and Classic, but unlike Generations, this is entirely 3D and doesn't make alternate time versions of characters

One of Crush 40's favorite songs
Let show that creep the true super power of team Work
Sonic games can vary in quality, but they almost always have an absolute banger soundtrack, this one being one of my absolute favorites tbh.
This song is my favorite because, if you pay attention to the lyrics, there's actually some kind of conversation between Sonic and Metal.
"is it me your looking for?"
Man, Sonic may have been going up and down all these years, but the badass songs will always make up for it.
The day Crush 40 plays at a Sonic event without playing this is the day we get a proper Mario and Sonic game
Genox Flame Then have multiple play styles. Simple as that
Regentaltax 07 sonic forces did that so well huh.
It's not the idea, it's the execution

Amy Rose: "I think you can blast through his crystal attack using your speed. Sonic, you can do it!"
Rouge: "Counter his flying attack with Thunder Shoot! Tails, you can do it!"
Vector: "We have to counter the battleships he throws with power! Knuckles, show him your powerful punches, okay? Don't hold back anything!"
Charmy: "Use Light Attack by pressing the ⬜/B/X button while jumping when Sonic's the leader! This defeats his attacks, but it sucks up your rings!"
Shadow: "You won't be able to move when he casts Chaos Control. Turn the Left Analog Stick, Left Thumbstick, Control Stick quickly to minimize the stop time!"
Espio: "Even when he's invisible, he'll briefly appeared when he attacks! Pay close attention so you can locate his position!"
Cream: "Everyone, watch your ring count! You won't be able to use Super Transformation of you lose all your Rings!"

The best boss theme. Because it works both as Sonic's theme and as Metal Sonic's theme.

Probably made it a Sky Fleet to avoid redoing Perfect Chaos again with Metal Sonic.
OHHHH THAT MAKES SENSE NOW!!!! Makes more sense now
& it’s probably why Shadow is going to be fighting the Metal Overlord over a body of water on the ruined Remains of Final Fortress
Easily the best final boss fight and song out of any Sonic game! The whole entire fight felt so damn intense hearing this song and Metal Sonic’s voice! The fact that this is Crush 40's favorite song is just amazing!

Hey, Metal Sonic! The Biolizard called: it wants it's original roar back.
Johnny and Jun stated that this was the most fun song for them to perform, and I can absolutely see that. This song's awesome.
What i love about this song is that its just vague enough that it can be interpreted in many different ways (like live and learn), even a "love" song!
It could represent feelings of rejection, trying to prove to them your "too good for them", and even stalking!
Honestly this song and live and learn have always been my favorite songs from them in the Sonic series
