Wonderful! Could you imagine if one day it turns out that someone in the audience had smuggled a cine camera inside and there was actual live moving footage to go with this, WOW!
Yes, he did. Died far too young, and was at the top of his game when he passed. Thanks for viewing, and check the Jolson page at www.jolson.org for more!
Gosh, he had a good sense of humour didn't he... ... I didn't catch what he said about Larry Parks and I had heard he didn't care for Larry Parks to the point he didn't want Larry Parks to play him in the movie is this true??
Jolson was known as a comedian first, before becoming famous as a singer, and had a well developed and active sense of humor. I don't think there was any love lost between Parks and Jolson, but he recognized that with the performance in "The Jolson Story," Larry Parks catapulted Jolson into a new popularity that otherwise may not have been. @@MarcLeavey Thank you for your reply. .. Gosh, after all these years I had no idea he was a comedian first...hmmm ... Yes, I did stop by at www.jolson.org before Christmas but at this time I'm not able to contribute to the site... sorry!
Al Jolson was fabulous in this Steve Allen radio show. He was very funny - appearing to ad lib rather than follow a script.

Along with many other such appearances!
Thank you for this! I remember Mr. Jolson. Worked himself to death and died earlier than needed.
