Never seen one, but have always wanted too, lets hope she has a safe (if long) crossing, thank you for letting her come to the UK such a rare type and she will be a truly unique example in the UK.

Nick, thanks for your comment. We have two complete Freighters in NZ, one at Air Force Museum at Wigram and another in Taxi condition at Blenheim. Plus a semi-complete one near Waiuku. regards, Mike - AirflowNZ. PS The containers with engines & spares has arrived, the rest due in a couple of weeks time.

I recall back in the late 1980's at an airport in Terrace British Columbia....I saw an old Bristol Freighter taxi and take off....I had to stop and watch as the plane was so very old, rattling and the front doors bouncing off each other as it took off....it looked like the kind of plane that you needed several stiff drinks to fly...

It's great to see what care was taken of the old girl at the start of her journey. Have you checked on the clips of her arriving in Bristol? As I've told another contributor, I was happy to donate ten quid to help get her back home, but missed her arrival.

Many thanks. I'm ex-Rolls-Royce Bristol and I live just three miles away from the former Filton airfield (now with holes dug in its runway) and the Aerospace Bristol museum. I have a ticket which gives me unlimited entry to the museum for a year, which I've already visited several times.

Graham, you are fortunate to live so close! It would me a couple of days in a jet to visit! Mike

I'm also an all branch life member of the Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust, the Bristol Branch of which has a close association with Aerospace Bristol. I can't claim any direct nostalgic connections with NZ5911, or any Bristol Freighter, but I certainly can with Concorde G-BOAF, Alpha Fox to her friends, which is now permanently housed at the museum. Back in 1995, I flew to New York and back as a guest of British Airways, one way on Alpha Charlie, the other on Alpha Fox. At the time I was a member of the engineering team at R-R Bristol, keeping their Olympus 593 engines turning and burning.

PS Where you're fortunate is to be able to see a Mosquito flying. I recall seeing the last flying Mossie in the UK at the Farnborough Air Show many years ago.

I remeber the Brstols operating here in Ch-Ch at Wigram Airbase in the 60's. How many are left in NZ and should this one have stayed ?.

Greg, check TH-cam for the freighter in Blenheim, still does taxi runs. There is a fuselage in Waiuku which provided a WC for this aircraft. No NZ Museum wanted this last aircraft so it was sold. When restored at Aerospace Bristol museum it will be painted in RNZAF colours, Mike

Hi Mr D, no show! It will be on static display at Aerospace Bristol when they have funds to build a special hanger. It will be painted in 1954 RNZAF colours. regards, Mike - AirflowNZ

She's under cover in the Brabazon Hangar at the former Filton airfield, where she was built. She's well protected for the time being, but Aerospace Bristol will have to do some more fund raising on a large scale, to give her a permanent home.

I think its a real shame the UK has such a lack of imagination when it comes to its own aviation industry that we have to scour the world for aeroplanes like these because we have scrapped all of our own airframes ....Ridiculous and short sighted really ....and sadly, for so many lovely old aeroplanes , par for the course......

Roland, when I visited your country in 2018 for the RAF 100 anniversary I visited many aircraft museums and was impressed. If you manage to view all my videos on these great museums your view may change, thanks for your comment, Mike - AirflowNZ

@@AirflowNZ there are so many though sadly extinct, I fear I would not know where to start....pretty much all the captured german planes or at least most of them at wars end, bulldozed into a heap and then set fire to, as example . Yes we have some excellent museums but so so many planes have not a single example left.
