VERY LONG POST, But I want to help a brother out.
My hair was just like yours last year, now it's really voluminous and malleable, as well as easy to maintain! Here's my advice to achieving what I did with my coarse, thick and wavy hair.
When you go to the barbers, aim to have the sides and back cut ONLY, if you want sharp edges that's fine. If you want him/her to do your split ends, that's fine too but you want as much hair on the top as possible.
Then you just need to wash it, very regularly for a week or two. I once had coarse hair too, so my hair had a sheep wool feel to it when it softened. I used a shampoo and conditioner that kept my hair nice and soft throughout the day. This is the beginning stage of letting your hair fall into natural positions during the day, particularly windy days.
Once you reach the stage of having soft hair, which should only take a week or two later, you should only wash your hair with shampoo every second day. On the other days in between, use dry shampoo and spray it all over your hair, then style it how you would. Shampoo and conditioner I use from this stage and beyond is one that gives me volume (it's a scentless female shampoo, but who cares?) Volume will allow my hair to be all bouncy and do that easy but subtle flick with my hair. Before bed, apply Argan Oil to your hair. I would only advise this for you because your hair is coarse and it keeps the roots of your hair moisturized and strong (it smells pretty good too)
If you intend to keep this cut for a while, you need to visit the barbers often. it ensures your cut looks clean everytime. as soon as you reach the stage where you start applying shampoo which gives you volume, that should be a good time to revisit your barber to deal with the sideburns and hair on your neck.
Obviously, this would be very expensive. Add on the Argan Oil and all the shampoo and styling things for your hair, it will burn a pretty big hole in your wallet. So I bought my own clippers and do my own hair. If you have two mirrors fixed so your hands are free or someone in your house that you can trust won't stuff up your hair this would work perfectly for you (and save you around $350 on haircuts) There are some videos on TH-cam of people doing DIY haircuts with that undercut result that everyone does (and assuming you want) so they'll be a great guide for you.
Over a year later, and my hair still looks as good as my last barbers visit!
What makes this guy incredibly hot is not his head of thick hair turned golden by the sun, or his skin of bronze. It’s his smile. Every time he smiles there’s this innocence, bashfulness, delight and sexiness all rolled into one. That’s what takes him over the top for me.
