I am so glad that my dad asked me to stop gymnastics after my 3rd accident... okay, they were little accidents, but he said, "I prefer to see you alive". He used to be very competitive, but he was a wise man in that moment. Thanks Dad!
The ending of this clip cracks me up. "You don't get it Mom, you're not in charge anymore." Umm..I'm pretty sure the person paying for your gymnastics training, private tutoring and choreographer is "the one in charge".
Kaylove No. The father was encouraging his daughter to develop her talent and was likely honored that such a renowned coach would want to work with her. At that time, he didn’t know that Greg was going to push his daughter and other students too hard, or encourage them not to listen to their bodies and ignore their injuries or pain. Now that he sees Greg’s true colors, he knows that he needs to pull Katie out for her safety and health. Good for him for speaking up and wanting to do the right thing, and I was glad that later in the movie, Katie’s mother finally wised up and realized he was right all along.
And Julissa Gomez and her Yurchenko, don't forget that! Julissa chose the Yurchenko for her vault because she needed a strong vault element to stay competitive.
@@lauribricker9439 *_Sadly, Julissa G wore shoes a lot of the time. Shoes probably caused her fatal accident. I'm a gymnast & I always do my sport barefoot. It's safer with bare feet!_*
Ohhhhh man, if I told my mother at that age (or any age, come to think of it) that her job was to stay out of the way, and she wasn't in charge anymore, she would have KILLED me! And pulled my butt out of whatever it was she supposedly wasn't in charge of!
This is a good example of how you ALWAYS need to listen to your body. Your body is your temple and if you don't take care of it properly, things like this can happen.
It's good that the father isn't there every day, because that's why he still is able to see the reality of what's in front of him. The mother has gotten slowly sucked into the little world of the gymnastics club, accepting one more bad thing every day, until she no longer has any perspective. She and the daughter have both kind of been brainwashed.
Good for the father speaking up. When it's about the safety of these athletes, everything else should go out the window. Rising to challenges is one thing, but doing something dangerous that could permanently damage or kill you is another. You can't be an Olympian if you are dead.
Funny how the dad acts as if he has NOTHING to do with this whole thing, when it was all his idea in the first place. I bet if she would have gone to the Olympics and won gold, all of a sudden he would be the mastermind again.
It really annoys me that you can't watch part 7 in the UK (it's not authorised by the WMG or something). How does Dana injure her neck? and what happens at the meet? Can anyone fill me in?? :)
When Elena Shushunova was asked about whether she would allow her son to be a gymnast, she was horrified at the prospect. Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf both hugely pushed into tennis, feel that same way about their children and sport.
3:56: "Not enough to compete against the Russians or THE ROMANIANS"?? Rolling my naked eyes & LOL! THE ROMANIAN POWER IN GYMNASTICS IS SO A THING OF THE PAST! "NADIA", HAHAHAHA!
SnowbirdFlock this was 1997 though. They were still a power house at that time--they won the team gold at the 2000 Olympics and swept the medals in the all-around. (There was the incident involving Raducan's banned cold medicine, but almost everyone considers that to have been bull. It also was the reason for the idiotic 2-per-country rule being implemented.
Where are the sponge pits, trampolines and other training equipment? That coach just sees those gymnasts as a way to make money from their parents while they sink into debt.
Question: Is it wise to run with a broken ankle? Is it smart to play basketball with a fractured wrist or a broken finger? When you are injured you need to take a break. This coach ignored injuries and made them perform anyway hence, Dayna fell and almost broke her neck. This is why some athletes end up with permanent injuries, they don't know when to STOP!
This storyline is about pushing your body to the limit for gymnastics and gymnastics is the focus......Perfect Body is about Eating Disorders with a gymnastic backround where the ED is the focus.
I'm suprised Katies mom didn't pop her when she talked back to her. If I ever told my mom " you're not in charge anymore" she would spank me bear bottom style or slap me
I have a friend that is pushing her child like this. We were teammates in college and it is hard to see. Everything revolves around this one kid while the others are ignored. They spend all their finances on this one kid and EVERYTHING is about his sport. He won't make college level so I am baffled. I get wanting the best for your kids but when is it unhealthy?
This was such a sad scene. Greg was such a brutal coach and he really pushed them over the limit. Katie found that out towards the end and also found out she really couldn't hack it.
Wasn't the father the one that initiated her into persuing her dream. If I recall, he was the one that pressed on making them go away with the coach. Now he wants her to quit. I think the mother was not too thrilled in the beginning, but gave in because the dad insisted. The little girl, is way out of line, by telling her mom that she is not in charge anymore!! Well, in my opinion, both parents should of thought of this before!!!!
hold up! shes on the gold team!!! so what?? now you can officially sit in the front now??!! what in the world.. how does she become the one who is oblivious to the whole gymnastics thing and the father is the one who thinks that the gymnastics thing is going too far.
Bad coachs would rather have them in permanent injury in wheelchair than to bail before getting killed. Bad coaches win gold at any cost. Even at the rist of lives of girls. Prize is all that matters. Good coaches brings out the best and bring the best at full strength not just those who are luckly enough to survive the condition and abuse treatment.
There's a difference between looking out for them, making sure they see the reality (like he was doing) and from not letting them take risks and whatnot that aren't detrimental to their well-being. That facility was emotionally damaging to the girls training there. I used to compete nationally in gymnastics, so I am well aware of the consequences and sacrifices lol
Like others said, he had no idea how brutal and abusive Greg was in the beginning, and he didn't move with Katie and her mother and see the aftermath of the coach switch. He realized his mistake in judgment and corrected it.
Dana's mom is crying about all her sacrifices as if she did all that training herself while her daughter lies in bed with a neck brace on, injured and disappointed... wow!
what a duche bag he should support his daughter in whatever she wants to do and if she gets hurt well at lest she learned something i mean its her life and her body
I think Greg came down extra hard on Katie b/c she was his best hope now, with Dana gone. He didn't care about the girls themselves, only of how they were of use to him.
...Is it just me or are all gymnasts in movies like these single children? Strange thing is, my friend (who's a gymnast) is the only single child I know... Interesting... *random*
the father is the only person in this scene with any intelligence. i know gymnastics star parents. there all the same. its really sad. these kids are given no chance after they become great athletes.
I understand the dad's reaction... but the fact of the matter is that if you want to be a professional athlete, you have to push yourself, and you will get injured in the process. That said, the coach is horrible (he needs to push the girls yes, but he has to know when to stop too), and the way these girls are pushing themselves is not an ideal way at all...
If I were Dana's mother, I'd be more concerned about her having a cracked neck vertebrae than her gymnastics career ending. I would rather have my child happy and healthy than a child who is a star but is permanently crippled.
avonee1976 a cracked vertebra can heal as long as the spinal cord itself isn't damaged. They can live a perfectly normal life--just can't do gymnastics or contact sports.
danas mom is makeing everything worse she should support her daughter not her daughter supporting the mother thae daughter telling the mom its gonna be alrite when the daughter is in a neck brace so screwed up
I am so glad that my dad asked me to stop gymnastics after my 3rd accident... okay, they were little accidents, but he said, "I prefer to see you alive". He used to be very competitive, but he was a wise man in that moment. Thanks Dad!

I love how her dad is the one that pushed all this so hard in the beginning but now he's pissed and wants a divorce om
Kaylove No. The father was encouraging his daughter to develop her talent and was likely honored that such a renowned coach would want to work with her. If this is how crazy gymnastics is then I think we don't give them the credit they deserve
the father is the only one with a lick of sense!
Yeah pretty much
I love the actress who plays Dana's mom. she did an awesome job
@Ch Candela oh yes, I remember that from the book!
Everybody always says this movie is very similar to "Perfect Bodies" but aside from the gynnastic theme, it's completely different.
Reminds me of Elena Mukhina and the Thomas Salto.
Except it was way worse for Elena..RIP
And Julissa Gomez and her Yurchenko, don't forget that! Julissa chose the Yurchenko for her vault because she needed a strong vault element to stay competitive.
@@lauribricker9439 *_Sadly, Julissa G wore shoes a lot of the time. Shoes probably caused her fatal accident. I'm a gymnast & I always do my sport barefoot. It's safer with bare feet!_*
the dad is not a douche, he's looking out for his daughter and that's how parents should be in this sport.
Ohhhhh man, if I told my mother at that age (or any age, come to think of it) that her job was to stay out of the way, and she wasn't in charge anymore, she would have KILLED me! And pulled my butt out of whatever it was she supposedly wasn't in charge of!

Wow... still, I thought perhaps they would have a character doing the story of Julissa Gomez. So yeah, it can be worse.
Poor Katie! She worked so hard to compete and win, only to never achieve it!
There are many parents who sadly put their child's talent above everything else.
Hahaha that's not how you train a Yurchenko.
I wonder if they really didn't have foam pits back then...
Good for the father speaking up. When it's about the safety of these athletes, everything else should go out the window. Rising to challenges is one thing, but doing something dangerous that could permanently damage or kill you is another. You can't be an Olympian if you are dead.
Dana is Julissa Gomez of this story, though not the same ending. This is based on the book. If you haven’t read it, I suggest it.
Funny how the dad acts as if he has NOTHING to do with this whole thing, when it was all his idea in the first place. I bet if she would have gone to the Olympics and won gold, all of a sudden he would be the mastermind again.
That coach obviously lives for gymnastics. I bet he dont even have a social life, let alone friends....
Well done for Katie's dad!!!
It really annoys me that you can't watch part 7 in the UK (it's not authorised by the WMG or something). How does Dana injure her neck? and what happens at the meet? Can anyone fill me in?? :)

That's the scary thing about any sport one false move and it can have dire consequences

I have a cervical spinal cord injury. I know what it is like.
Is Diana Aimee Walker the deaf gymnast
Yes :) She has a youtube channel. She mentioned doing a floor routine to Carmen music, and they apparently showed it at the exhibition scene :)
If my coach screamed at me like that (5:54), I swear he wouldn't be my coach for long
Aw hell no, I would not let my kid talk to me like that. Nope.
'Playing his role' YEAH RIGHT! He just finished saying give up her dream and everything she worked hard for. ALL SPORTS YOU CAN GET INJURED SHEESH!
what happened in part 7? it wouldn't let me watch it :(

what's happen in part 7 ?? i can't see this part
dad's just trying to protect her from injury and lifelong regret
Got a bit confused not seeing part 7!
I have never been to a gym where they allow parents to watch...most gyms make the parents leave

@JamieOwen05 The Actor who portrayed him still makes my skin crawl.
this film is exactally the same as pertfect body lol
The dad wanted Katie/Catie to do this though am so glad that he had stepped - in, said (something), the mom is so stupid!!!! at first etc.....
@Stinkyfart He seems to have many skin crawly roles on LMN.

That doesn't mean necessarily that she couldn't hack - it!!!!
It is not Katie/Catie could not hack it
Her safety /well -being is an issue etc…./ (something)
Some things or depends could be an matter of your safety/health etcccc…../ unless all what depends
anyone know where i can get this movie on DVD?
