    I agree with everything you say. I have had ProAc, Klipsch, B&W and alot of other speakers the last 30 years. I stop here, beacause I finally found a speaker that plays jazz, classical and rock. Together with my McIntosh MA252 with Genalex Gold Lion tubes….it’s magic. My hunt is over. I have orange grills as well. Thank you for always delivering informative and tone downed intimate reviews👍 Greetings from Norway😊

    Thanks for this review. Beeing a professional musician and sound engineer, growing up in a family of professional musicians, the majority of what I see and hear out of the audiophile camp, at least to me seems to be hilarious and completely out of touch with the essence of music. So this review really spoke to me. A speaker is an instrument after all. It's there to convert "technical stuff" into music again, to transmit the vibes created by the musicians, the emotions, to bundle and project whatever happened in front of the mics. And it's ok if they favour the music. Just like you said. Again, thanks for your work, stay safe mate!

      Are you referring to audiophiles focusing on specific aspects instead of how “musical” they are?

    Your audio reviews are excellent. We share hobbies. HIFI and cameras even though audio is a much more expensive hobby. Just added these ones to my "B" system list.

    Very well explained and accurate for that matter!🤔😬😉😇 Have you ever heard the JBL Studio 5 series line? I suppose the 530's would be the closest match! That's the line I have with 590 towers upfront. But you're comparing bookshelves so that's why I mentioned the 530's. It's a compression horn loaded driver so it's a little different but they are fantastic!😬 I also have 2 JBL 520p 10 inch sealed Subs that sound Fantastic for their price point. My systems both a home theater and 2 channel unlike yours which seems to be more 2 channel but you get the point.😇

    I'm planning on getting into Vinyl been looking at the white gloss Pro-ject X1, and these speakers sound and design especially with the orange grills will look and hopefully sound great together

    I love just listening to music also. This is a awesome speaker! Brings back memories from my fathers old B&W's from the 70's. If looking for something with this presentation but a more reasonable price check out the Tekton Lore. The Lore make music just sexy and not analytical. Makes you just feel it with passion.

    Cheers for this review. Any chance you can speak to the main differences between these and the Special Forties? They're both on my radar at the moment, but unfortunately there are no dealers where I live stocking both brands for a direct comparison. Thanks!

    I'm looking for a speaker to pair with my vintage Yamaha CR-2040 receiver. It's never leaving, so I want a speaker that will stay with it. This seems to fit the bill. Great review!!

    Thanks for the review. I have been on a quest for "musical speakers".for the same size room that you have. Did you listen to the Wharfendale Lintons? ($1500 w/stands) Both are on my short list.

    How about experimenting with mixed set?
    I use warm left channel proac Response d2 for heft and right the famously neutral (closer to boundary) Kef Reference 201/2 gives me better than either, slightly less etched than Kef alone but still 3d with diffusion and heft.

    • @HiFiHuff
      @HiFiHuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The L100's are older than the L82. They came out quite a while ago where the L82's were last year. L100's are much larger, so a larger sound.

    Would these be good good death metal? Or the heresy? Death metal is my fave genre but also listen to a lot of ambient, smooth jazz, and indie pop. Trying to put together of a short list of speaker to audition.

    I'm really interested in these. It'll take me a while to save up for them though. I agree with your sentiments on expensive yet cold / dry audiophile speakers. I listen to a lot of metal and the last thing I need is having all those (intentionally) rough recordings being beamed right at me. Imo texture, not detail, is king. Though this is just my opinion.

    Sweet review and gear, man. So, I have some JBL Stage A130s, and I want to get the JBL L52s for side by side comparisons. I plan on powering them with my Denon PMA-600NE amp. The L52s are 4 ohm, so that will mean a 70 watt/channel load.

      @@Matasky2010 Yeah, I bought L100s Classic in the end, and keep the grilles on. Not as pleasant as Harbeth, but quite nice speakers. They rock in my living room :)

    I think it is a very narrow view to put high-end speakers automatically on the cool and analytical side.
    This shouldn’t be the case, period. If your high-end speakers sound cool or analytical, they are just non high-end, that’s it.
    Unfortunately the « audiophile » world we live in produce some very bad speakers that’s it. Starting with those absolutely harsh sounding Klipsh horns or those diamond B&W tweeters.
    High-end speakers should be flat and detailed but also rich and smooth. They should not be a chirurgical instrument or it’s just a poor execution. We’re here for the music or we lost our soul in the game.
    My Focal Sopra 3 are definitely high-end, but they’re not how you describe high-end speakers, not at all. They’re just coherent. They sound refined of course, and very detailed but also gorgeously smooth.

    Chinese pile of poop.
    There are a plethora of vintage 70's/80's 2 ways out there.
    If the JBLs aren't bass prominent you need a bigger amp. They should boom as a rock and roll speaker should.

    That is small scale „coward“ music. You state in the review that the L82’s have the best drum rendition out of all the speakers you have heard. A big funk band, rock, edm, large scale orchestra - that would be a meaningful music for a review. But you do the same as all reviewers / manufacturers: play small scale music to hide the shortcomings of audio systems: bass, cohesive timing and dynamics !!!

    • @TheFibtastic
      @TheFibtastic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because you're really going to understand how something sounds through an in-room mic sound down sampled, pumped through TH-cam, and then your own computer speakers/headphones.

    • @vonjuergen
      @vonjuergen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most speakers have problems in coherence, speed, bass quality and timing. And you can hear that immediately , even on TH-cam. Check out TH-cam channels where they mostly use the same song on every system like soundex review, alpha audio, avshowreports. If the timing is not right, then I don’t really need to understand the rest of the qualities, John Fiebke.
