- While we were traveling in Thailand back in December 2019, we set ourselves a challenge.
To spend 72 hours in a Buddhist monastery in northern Thailand.
We traveled for over 1000 km from Bangkok to Chiang Mai to Pai and from there to Mae Hong Son where we visited the Wat Pa Tam Wua forest monastery.
We decided to make this trip unforgettable and a bit more discomfort, hence we traveled for 11 hours third class on a night train to Chiang Mai and from Chaing Mai to Pai to the monastery by hitchhiking.
Once we arrived at the monastery the monks welcomed us and provided clothes, accommodation and food to everyone.
I feel both blessed and grateful that I was given this unique opportunity to discover Buddhism and do my first steps into meditation.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m planning to spend time in a Thai monastery next year. Of course, I’m focusing on the trivial apprehensions. Specifically, how can a caffeine addict function in that space without caffeine? Or do they provide tea?
They provide tea! Also depending on the monastery, coffee can be served also. Enjoy your stay!

It appears that there is a wide range of estimates about the number of Buddhists in Japan.
According to this Wikipedia page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhism_by_country as of 2010 Buddhists in Japan we estimated at 45 million, behind Thailand and China.
However as of 2018 the Japanese government estimated 84 million Buddhists.
So, Buddhist in Japan almost doubled in 10 years period?

Stumbled on your gem while creating a film for Buddhist monks. Thank YOU. And I have been practicing meditation before I saw your film but only for a short time. To me it's like finding peace, letting my mind free, connecting with a bigger space; Universe where I can feel the energy flowing around me. Not sure that's exactly a mediation? But really helps!
Beautiful place.. I will be visiting Bangkok in 2 weeks time and will be staying in a temple for one week, the temple I'm staying is located in a remote area where no internet access is available and there are almost no foreigner visitors, I don't speak Thai well and there's no English speaking person there, I have a Thai friend who will help me to get there, but I probably won't be allowed to join the learning class, really not sure what to expect during my stay.. Do you have to share room with other visitors? were you allowed to walk around the temple in and out freely during your stay?
As buddhists we do meditation at least one hour per day.Then think what relief that we can get in our lives .Thanks for taking that consolation .
