I tried everything I could with this code 31 issue and spent hours with no luck to the point of frustration. This little trick worked and it fired right up. Thank you for sharing this extremely important tip!

Most likely you're going to have to replace the inducer motor To fix the problem Thanks for watching

This showed me exactly where my problem was on my furnace when getting the 31 error code. I flushed out the pressure sensor line with forced air and the fault went away. Thank you for this video!

You rock! Thank you for your help!! Saved me a service call and saved my mother from freezing in her home.
Once I found the service code, and then found your video in my search, I pulled the hose and it dropped about 1ml of water! (More than a few drops by far).
I blew it out a bit, dried it off, and .... voila! Fixed. I’ll do the drill fix tomorrow, but the heat is on for now.
Thanks again, your time spent uploading this has helped a lot of people like myself. Woohoo!!

Thank you so much for sharing your tips!!! My 2007 Carrier furnace showed this error code (31) for days, although it "works" occasionally. I took the pain to clear the condensing drain as shown in your video. First, I did get a lot of water (about 1/2 gallon?), Secondly, I did see some dead stink bugs bodies. After thoroughly cleaning the drainage container, the error code is gone. Hopefully, the problem is fixed. There might be other reasons, but the problem shown in the video is one of the problems. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE! David

This was exactly what i needed. I found this vid the same day as the HVAC guy was coming to check the code #31 on my Carrier 59SPXX. He checked it out, ran fine while he tested it. A few minutes after he left, code #31 triggered again. So I drilled out that port, no more problems ever since.

This video is great! Even though I have a home warranty I still had to pay to get techs out to fix this little furnace "glitch." I was getting tired of paying them when I figured they will just have to come back out in 3-4 months. So thank you for helping me out that money back in my pocket!!

Check that big rubber 90 degree elbow on the front right of the unit, just to the right of the area that is drilled out first. I had a 31 error code, drilled the port, had the pressure switch replaced, and it turns out there was a dead bird inside that big 90 degree gasket causing the fault

I'm wondering that when you replace these inducer draft motor / housing do the new ones come already pre-drilled ? I recently replaced an inducer and it was an upgrade it came with a adapter plug and some baffles for the mouth of the inducer depending on how big your furnace was but I don't know whether they drill the hole bigger . Just to be on the safe side I drilled it out anyway.

I finally discovered the problem with code 31 to be a bee’s nest within the outside exhaust pipe from the furnace, it’s a safety feature on the furnace indicating blocked airway.

Great video! Thank you. Didn't know there was a service bulletin on this furnace and a 59SP5A furnace for an undersized draft inducer pressure port that needs to be drilled out.
Also, I have a question on a 59SP5A sequence of operation. I was testing the HPS pressure switch and much to my surprise, when I pulled its sensing hose off of the inducer, the burners kept firing. That didn't make sense to me until I read the heating sequence of operation and it says these contacts are ignored until one minute after the gas valve closes. Obviously, I disconnected its sensing tube prior to the gas valve closing since the burners were firing. Why do the HPS pressure switch contacts get ignored until one minute after the gas valve closes? Thank you!

Hey bro I’m on a service call that is this exact problem.
The Bryant furnace has already had the inducer changed out but then a bird got stuck in the exhaust pipe and inducer housing large 90 rubber elbow. I got the bird out and washed away all remaining parts of the bird from the inducer housing 90.
Checked all drains and it is still throwing me 31..
I have not drilled the hole bigger for the pressure switch. I will try that when I go back tomorrow.
Do you think I need to replace the inducer motor or just drill the hole.

I don't think it's a good idea to give away this kind of information for not-so-qualified people to fix their own furnace. I had a customer who watched a youtube video so that he could possibly repair his furnace. He ended up taking out the outlet side gas pressure tap on the gas valve and started his furnace on fire. Nothing but melted wires and inducer motor housing. He's just lucky he didn't start the house on fire. Way too much of a liability for someone that is not professionally trained. There's qualified people for every profession, we should rely on them.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner I do have other videos on the same problem and it seems the solution is changing the inducer motor the newer motors having a enlarged port so condensation doesn't block the hose port but pay attention to your venting and make sure its to manufacturer's specification At a quarter inch per foot hope this helps thanks for watching

Check to see if you have created a problematic double trap through improper tube drain configuration from the condenser.
