My golden was such a joy! I got him at 3 (he was a rescue) and he was so easy to train. He continued to be trained for different things as he aged due to injuries I had. He was able to assist me in so many ways, so so smart. He was also a caretaker in many ways to my grandchildren. He would run up the playground equipment with them. He was just the best friend of everyone. We gave him lots of walkies and swims. He was never overweight. We miss him every day. Unfortunately he got that cancer that a lot of them get and he was suddenly gone and just a couple months before his 10th birthday. Heartbroken. Forever.

Teach your friends and guests that it's just fine eating golden fur, and tell them to wear light colored clothing even if it's after labour day. ;)

    I love golden retrievers❤
For me it has been the best breed I have ever had. Thank you for sharing the truths of having a golden retriever. It's good that people know what it's like to have one. That they don't just get carried away by how beautiful they are, is much more than that.

Any negatives...which are few...are far outweighed by the breed’s positives. Have only had two. Wish I had met the breed years ago. We’re now at an age where when it’s time to get another. Wouldn’t be fair to the fur baby.

My mom had a golden retriever. She was a stray about a year old when she friended the whole neighborhood. She had a really loud bark and could climb fences. She was barking at the school kids going to the bus
. Someone called the dog catcher and they were going to take her. My mom had a fence so she officially adopted her. She had a crooked snout. Vet said it was probably from birth. She was the absolute sweetest best dog ever. She outlived my mom so my brother took her. I think she was the same type as yours. She lived to be almost 20 years old. She was the best dog ever. And such a personality. My mom had to get a wire on top of fence to keep her in. After a few weeks it wasn't even turned on. She had found her home. Her crooked snout was cute and didn't bother her. Other than arthritis at the end she was a very healthy dog.

About Charlie's weight: my parents had a wonderful purebred golden retriever, born in 1973. He was really golden and they named him Rusty. My mother kept Rusty trim -- not skinny, but trim, at about 70 lb. Rusty's siblings all died between the ages of 8 and 12. Rusty died at age 16 and was in pretty good shape up to just a few months before his death. The vet felt Rusty's longevity was in great part due to the fact he wasn't bulky or overweight. Lesson: let your golden's fur fluff fill him out, not his fat :-) RIP Rusty.

it's so important to do research before you bring any kind of dog into your family. we have a lab/cattle dog mix who we rescued at about 6 weeks. I spent HOURS a day exercising her because she was insanely high energy. She didn't start to slow down until she was about 3. She is now 9. Also agree one of the most important things you can do is make sure your dog is a healthy weight.

I have 3 labs which are very similar to goldens & Yes! The shedding is _insane_ no matter how many times a week you brush them. I have 2 blacks & 1 yellow plus 1 long haired cat & 1 calico 💕 invest in a good vacuum & air purifiers help a lot to get the dust & hair dander down! I've learned to use my vacuum hose over the tables & places that hair lands on then I go over it & wipe it down after. That way, your duster doesn't get a lot of hair on it!!

There are many who get cancer. There are a few studies here in the US that specifically studies cancer and the breed golden retrievers because they are at high risk for cancer. So please know that also before getting a golden retriever. My Max got cancer when he was 7 and died 9 months after he was diagnosed.

My golden was just the sweetest girl! When my wife's dog would bring something back that she had hunted and killed my golden acted like she was just Grossed out by it... LOL. Sunny just wanted to be Everybody's friend and love on them. When we first brought her home from the shelter, (she was a rescue), she just wanted to sleep on top of the clothes in the laundry basket. BTW, don't you have four dogs? Is Tucker still alright? I love your videos, they remind me of my Sunny and how much fun and Love she always provided us. As far as going for a walk, we lived in a Very rural area and the dogs could run around to their hearts content. But Still, when I got home from work, she would not rest until I took her for a walk, and that was our special time together. Don't know why but she really seemed to need that. My Sunny was a puppy when we got her from a shelter. She was ultimately a victim of severe hip dysplasia. Thank you for sharing you extensive experience with the breed.

I love Golden’s too, I never seem to get a choice though, mine come to me through foster, and I keep them, and I seem to be cursed or blessed, depending on the moment, by Terriers. Right now I have a Cairn and a Norfolk or as I like to call them..Bear and Kodiak (Kodi).
Enough about my babies..I love your videos, and your puppets, I’d like to see a little more of Tucker though, he’s such a beauty 🦋

Thank you for lovely informative vid. I'm surprised some think Charlie skinny. He looks super lean & fit. Buddy has such a beautiful nature - he's like pooch Angel! Tucker has such cute face & glorious coat. I see Daisy May is now out of her doggy diapers - well done Daisy. We call them nappies here across the pond (diaper sounds better!) For sure I'll be getting a pooch or two when I'm home full time. Their unconditional love is priceless - & worth all the hard work to keep house immaculate! Until then I have to adore everyone else's. Charlie's videos are the best. Loads of love to Charlie & Co.

I love golden retrievers they are such good dogs. Regarding breeders my mother did the same thing for our Dalmatian. Dalmatian’s also get hip dysplasia when they get older and become deaf. My father also trained him to sit in the living room while we were eating at the table. We had him for 13 years. He was a great dog and I miss him very much. My mother went to animal shelter Before confetti died and got a mixed breed puppy, he was so cute however he was a bit more challenging than our Dalmatian and I took him to obedience school. He was already partially trained. I miss him as well.

My Golden Retriever is 5 years old and still a puppy. He loves everyone and everything, and he has the ability to calm other dogs that have problems with anxiety for example.
He is a dream dog, with the exception that he can get aggressive when it comes to food.
He also sheds more fur than an Alaskan Malamute, so he is a hairy boy :D

Yes, golden's are terrific. My is 11 1/2 yrs old and still a puppy at times.....even with his arthritis. He has had skin allergies off and on his whole life. The first two years were the worst but improved with grain free diet...he has regular blood work to make sure kidneys and liver are normal as sometimes grain free can affect numbers. He has had several lipomas removed and some just aspirated to check for cancer. But I would not trade him for one day for anything.

thank you sooo much for this video! I have been watching your videos for a while, thought they were funny and wondered about who was behind them. now I know and I am very happy to learn about the way you deal with three (omg THREE!) goldens. all the information you provide is so valid - I agree with (nearly ;-) all of it 100% - you are doing a great job. currently we are with our second golden (our first one died aged 14 yrs) and he is very special - completely different from our last one. as you mention he is of the "fashionable" breed (we did not know about this): very big head (he is soo handsome!), whitish rather than golden and really big. German show line... ohe dear, we had no idea what this means. Guess he knows it. what is (or maybe was - he is 19 months old now, we got him when he was only 8 weeks old which seems to be normal nowadays, our last one was 12 weeks old when we brought him home)the main "issue" (for me, I love cuddly dogs): only for the last two weeks he has grown to be a little more affectionate. we wondered whether there were autistic dogs ;-) He will sleep downstairs on his own, would never even bat an eyelid when we came downstairs or home after being out for 2 hours. he is a dogs' dog and a one person dog! we take him for long walks, dogtraining, play with him, do mantrailing - we have tried everything to get him interested (he is hardly ever alone in the house and can choose whether he wants to be in the same room with us or prefers to be on his own. it has been a hard 16 months, we love him dearly and now he is slowly becoming more affectionate. (yes, he is from a good breeder, we know the breeder, we know the parents - everything fine!)
I could go on and on, but this is getting too long. we are Swiss and live in Switzerland - I needed to share this and thank you for all the information you offer - it is all true and it's great to "meet" another golden lover from so far away
    :-)

Golden/Akita mix, named Willie. Best dog so far in the world. At 8 years old he did not like thunderstorms, hide under furniture was not an option at 100 lbs. So he ripped out the sheetrock at my new apartment next to the door. Thats where he went to walk, ride our run so he saw that as safety. Biggest sweetheart in the World! Took the extra mile to keep him calm when the thunder came round for years.

maybe one additional thought: you talk about getting information on the background of goldens in a shelter or rescue or whatever (can't remember the words in English). I do agree, however, if somebody is willing to adopt a dog with issues (health, behaviour whatever) and can afford to devote the money and time and energy necessary to deal with those issues and provide a loving forever home for such a dog I would think that is so great and admirable.

Charlie's owner has an onscreen (written) note that she only crates for a couple of hours. That's a really important point to make. In Australia, it is against the law to crate a puppy for longer than 2 hours a day. Crating is NOT meant to be a way to contain your puppy if you are out, or at work, and many owners are not aware of the law regarding pets (Companion Animal Acts, federal and state, and Animal Welfare Act).

Would love to have a Golden retriever as a service dog. But service dogs are generally expensive & my insurance doesn't cover them. But regardless of the dog I get as long as it's cat friendly, it's all good!

Thanks so much! I just got a female golden (English Cream). I was thinking she would only be about 60, like her mom. Guess we will see. I appreciate your honesty. She is a little love bug!

I’m a golden lover and owner, too. I LOVE your videos. ❤️ You gave a lot of good tips in this one. Your boys and beautiful and perfect (and Daisy, too!). I have a non-Velcro English Cream at the moment (she does not like hugs 😞)... I love her but miss the Velcro personality of my last one! ❤️🐶❤️ keep those videos coming!!
