Alton, Irene, and Teddy are very much alike in this comparrsion as they both thought their mission was for the greater good, even if it meant pushing their own family to the side or putting their own lives in jeopardy for whatever truth ot secrets. In turn, each character spiralled out of control. You can't look at Alton's faults without acknowledging the underlying facts

He was also clearly the love of her life and we see when he got himself together, he gave her the money to put towards the house, keeping nothing for himself. Cissy also knows Alton was beaten down by the system and just didn't handle it well. As for her not caring about her son's money, that's the kind of mom, girl or friend you want.

It’s was a mental block keeping him crippled. Him being so dependent on everybody this season shows the extent of why he was still walking with his cane. He was really needy and felt he couldn’t accomplish anything without his crew, couldn’t get out of any situation without his family and the crew was also falling apart, which only added to his dilemma. Him seeing Mel, was the closure he needed to take back his power and dominance and for him to only rely on himself which in turn freed him of his cane. It was his own weakness keeping him back. A lot of people think he was faking, maybe as a power move , but I believe it was his mind playing tricks on him.
