An easy quick way to measure out a parking lot. I've measured thousands of parking lots using these simple instructions. Hope it helps the new guys out and teaches the veterans maybe a trick or two.
Might I suggest two things: First, shoot horizontally (landscape.) It fills the frame better. Secondly, invest in a wireless lavalier (sp?) mic, it will help with your audio when talking to the camera.
What you don't use 9' 12" 15'???? To square up a 90° That's what we professional use. From the 90° sqaure up point you'll get your 60°angle by measuring 7'6". You always have to have a baseline ( that's where all your painted lines begin ) which is typically 18' per code but really could be what ever you want it to be.
I do that all the time at my church You can buy the striping spray paint for parking lots at Lowes .Just put two 8 foot long 2 by 4s about 4 inches apart as a template and spray paint each line in between the 2 by 4s to make it look straight
We have been in business for 70 years and that's basically how we still layout and it works. Except I would have made 9' marks along the curb as long as the curb is straight then swing a square, that way you are 90 degrees with the curbing.
After ya lay it out pop the 18ft lines, do y’all spray on the side of the line or spray center of the line. Thinking if you spray and the line is center of your paint then the parking space becomes smaller than 9 ft. But if you spray to the same side of each line it would stay a true 9 ft space?
So you made 9fts half way through, but when you finshed the rest all the way down what was the last stalls length? Was it 9 foot like the rest? and have you ever encounterd this if so what do you do personally? Thank you
For new layout, I measure the entire length and use a framing calculator to calculate how many stalls. A lot of time they will be 9’2” or some odd number but then your line will be flush at the end.
Love your squaring method! Quick tip to improve chalk bleeding through your paint. Pull a rope tight from mark to mark and spray the rope with tracking gun. Marks will remain if you must pull off for rain, no bending over, and much more efficient.
Jack Attali a tracking gun is a krylon 34" marking wand that sprays upside down spray paint on our layout rope. Then we follow the void left by the rope. Quicker and easier on the back
Me and my team have been renewing our business lots around the US and learned that Fox Valley is the industry mainstay for materials. They've been around for almost 50 years and this is their specialty. Their machines and paints are clearly of a much higher quality than any of the home improvement store brands. Their new site is FOXVALLEYPAINT.COM
You need to factor in if the curb is at a angle so the way it was laid out in your video is incorrect the line could be straight but the stalls could not be perfect 9" spaces.
tjsage79 if it's a 60° square is 10', 10', 10 from the corner the first one needs to hit, Snap it. Then pull 90° off that 9'. Snap it. Measure the width, should be 10'4".
It's funny cause you have no videos doing anything about riding a dirt bike around. Nothing to show you have any experience in stripping parking lots or doing anything that would give credibility to your statement
Thanks for the simple & to the point instruction!
Good video. Enjoyed it a d learned something.
Great video and deserves a like and a comment.
Great video man. Thanks!
Dude great little trick using that today just starting off using striping machine for my work.

Great video , I was wonder if you can share how to price a parking lot job , by example 30 parking spaces and a handicapped stencil price
Great video!
Very helpful. Trying to conserve money by striping our church parking lot ourselves.

Hello, do you have any pricing videos or just advise?

big help. ty
How do you do angle parking lines or sideways parking lines
Thank you
Could you tell me were I could find out what size are the parking spaces are when the cars park end to end? Thanks
Thanks so much
How would you do that for angled parking spaces?
Angled parking is 10'5" if you have 18' backing that will give you 9' stall
can someone please do video on how to do angle parking and chevron stripes/hatching for me please?
Good stuff.
What is considered a small pkg lot?
Thanks
hello, Tell me please what type of Chalk worked there? Thank you!
How do you lay out a curved lot?
Awesome
Thanks for the info
What size tip do you use? I am a painter by trade but have started line striping recently.
Thanks for the informative video.
For 4" we use 319
Yellow tips not the black one👍🏻 but same here painting residential for 30 years. Like this better cause not a ladder in sight lol.. good luck!
Bought a new Greco airless electric line striping machine which my guys don’t have to pre-mark this local old ways...

What is Tracking gun that you spray on rope??

Ryan Cox
Thank you Sir!
Ryan Cox nobody uses a rope anymore. That's the old way
Danger Danger I work for a huge striping company and wether it’s roads or parking lots we use a lay out string and wand
When you start striping, do you paint to the left of rack chalk line to keep an exact 9ft stall?
“Left of the chalk line”
Could you tell me about how much you charge per line thank you for the tips
Roughly $4 per line.
@@josephbanash4373 my boss charge them 10$ per line
I still can’t measure it , with no base or straight

From transporter to striper
6,8,10 would have worked fine. This layout is more for a convex layout
You need to factor in if the curb is at a angle so the way it was laid out in your video is incorrect the line could be straight but the stalls could not be perfect 9" spaces.
Actually that's the standard measurement. 18'L 9'W
I see my mistake
Burn. .....
Kidding"
That's what I was thinking too. If that curb isnt straight, that setup will not be square at all.
Only 9ft apart. We do 12ft apart
how the heck do you do spaces that are angled....
What angle?
smegal417 I dont know, when cars parks angled???Every time I stripe its pure hell...
tjsage79 if it's a 60° square is 10', 10', 10 from the corner the first one needs to hit, Snap it. Then pull 90° off that 9'. Snap it. Measure the width, should be 10'4".
tjsage79 a 45 is a 90 square, 18,24,30 then make a 5' box and snap through it.
smegal417 what f are you talking about
Helluva video
I've owned my own striping business for 10 years, this way of layout is a waste of time.
I've been in the striping business for almost a year. Need someone I can call for advice. Live in Florida.
Can you post a video pls
This is NOT how you accurately layout new striping.
Shawn Ross wow that shit is all ass backwards holly shit what did I just watch
No shit
why do you say this is not how to accurately lay out a parking lot? His lines will be square and straight, so what's so wrong with what he's doing
