As to their ages they 25 to 27 and the drummer Akane, bassist MISSA, and lead guitarist, Kanami began with the piano at 6 yo. Asian schools still have art class very big on music, hence Kpop, Jpop, Jrock, etc. They write and arrange their own music, and were put together by the rhythm guitarist Miku. The leader singer is Saiki. A side note Jimmy Page saw preform them and went backstage to tell the drummer that she was the best drummer he had heard since John Bonham and insisted on a selfie with her.
They've been paying together as BAND-MAID since 2013. Miku used to work in a Maid Cafe' and thought the Gap between Hard Rock and girls in cute Maid Uniforms would be appealing. She found Kanami on the Internet. Kanami had played with Akane. Akane knew MISA from music school. Miku decided having two singers and two guitars would sound better, so she learned rhythm guitar and found Saiki through their Agency, but didn't tell her about the maid uniforms right away. She just told her they would be wearing cute costumes. Saiki was the first to ditch the apron. There's a lot of Band-Maid out there. They've done about 80 different tracks so far. In this year alone, they've played about 20 gigs so far and performed nealy 50 different songs. Some gigs are relatively short -20-30 minutes at festivals etc. Others are "one-man lives" where they play solidly for 2 hours. Hi Rick, You always say that, and each time I'm like "Hmmm..." 'Cause I watched it actually the other way round, and it was still OK. I think Secret MAIKO lips was my second BAND-MAID song, after Thrill, on that night when I first discovered them. I initially thought it's another band, actually :-) Only after a week or so, I realized that it's still the same girls, only in different outfits, and under a different name. I mean, it still works, in whatever order you listen to their songs. After all, Luniversed's first encounter with BAND-MAID was a fancam video, and he became an instant fan. @Vladimir Chupin It's still fine, and seeing any BAND-MAID video is better than not seeing it. I just think it makes a bit more sense if you have some idea of what they were playing off of when they released 'Secret Maiko Lips'. I do remember one very confused reacter (I think it was Giddy Kitty) whose first exposure to the group was 'Secret Maiko Lips', before any other BAND-MAID videos.
@@rickwagner- I imagine that... I was definitely confused :-) But what the fans say, is true: there are no bad songs from BAND-MAID or BAND-MAIKO. Misa ( bass ) Said she's been playing in bands since 2008 not sure when she started playing the bass though. Akane ( drums ) Has been playing drums for about 10 years, but started incorporating the double pedaling more after they got a really positive response from their Thrill music video. Miku ( rhythm guitar ) Started learning guitar after Saiki joined as vocalist. She's been playing for around 6 years now. Moratorium is my favorite live ( I like the crowd participation ) th-cam.com/video/N7BQCkUb4SI/w-d-xo.html Don't You Tell Me has a good back and forth between Misa and Kanami th-cam.com/video/foqErbEw05o/w-d-xo.html Onset is an instrumental that really shows off their skills th-cam.com/video/ud0pxII3YwM/w-d-xo.html
MISA (bass) plays without footwear so she can sense the vibration from Akane's drums so she can integrate with her rhythm and link with the tone of Miku and Kanami's riffs. Plus there is almost a psychic link between all of the members. In 30 years of watching music I've only seen this sort of syncopation between the members of a band and I'm going to mention Rush, Led Zeppelin and Queen. It is so important these women get the exposure they need so the world can experience their music.
LOL, you ain't see nothing yet ... The Bassist, drummer, and guitarist all have music degrees and are all multi-instrumentalists (although they don't do a lot of that live in Band-Maid ... so far) They have a catalog of over 70 songs, and there is not a single stinker in the lot. They all have interesting onstage and off stage personalities that you'll eventually learn about They do an 'April Fools Joke' every year for their fans, where they dress up in traditional Maiko (Geisha in training) costumes, add some traditional instrument sounds and style to their songs (some of their best work IMO ... while not as hard and heavy as their usual stuff, like you said their musicianship is impressive, and what they do in their Band-Maiko songs is an incredible job of production and arrangements.) They sometimes do some of their live songs acoustic as well. And they are so damn cute and fun while doing it. I'm not going to recommend any specific song, because they are all awesome .. even many of the right fan-cams ones where you get a more personal experience at the cost of very little loss in sound and video quality.
This is the one I like to start people on. I'm a drummer and Akane is the first drummer in decades to inspire me to get back and learn new things. I've had a good set of double pedals for ever (I picked them up for next to nothing) but never tried to do anything with them. That is until about a year ago when I first heard this band. Best damned band I've heard in decades. Who knew Rock would be saved by some Japanese girls in cutesy maid outfits?! Hell, who knew it would be a girl band at all? And the thing is, Japan is FULL of bands like this. Lovebites, Bridear, Aldious, and so many others.
Band-Maid review Los Angeles, 30 Sept 2019 First, in case you didn’t know (ha ha) Band-Maid has a devoted following. There were guys in metal concert t-shirts and Band-Maid gear hanging around the Echoplex at least a day before the concert. I spoke with some of them, including Tim from Florida, Brian from North Carolina, and dudes from Washington and San Jose, California. The venue is minimalist, best suited for punk rock and for fans who arrive already somewhat anesthetized. Parts of it are sweltering hot, and other parts, under the air-con vents, are freezing cold. But that is part of the charm. If Band-Maid ever become as big as they deserve to be, it will never again be possible to see them in such a raw, intimate setting. They played 23 songs, a balanced mix of old crowd-pleasers and newer material. All of the girls hit top form, though Saiki took a couple of songs to really hit her stride. We were positioned on the left, so we got to watch MISA in action the whole time. She has toned down the drinking, probably in part because audiences egg her on, so it was just beer this time, not whiskey. That’s just as well, even she probably couldn't play completely snokkered. Seeing them in person is mesmerizing. They pour out a dense, beautifully constructed sound, and make it look effortless, even charming. Akane really does pound, all the while with a smile on her face, Saiki moves like the dancer she is while singing powerfully through that wall of sound, MISA remains cool and detached, while holding the entire thing together, Miku has become a powerful second guitar and seems about to burst with joy, and Kanami just casually tears through her solos while dancing around the stage…it’s the essence of performance art. The oldies were predictably great and got the crowd really going. I’ll just comment on a few of them. They rarely play Thrill, so it was a big Thrill when they played it this time. They replaced Onset with a new instrumental, “Don't Be Long”, which blew me away. I love Onset, so keeping up that standard was a tall order. I think they pulled it off. Daydreaming was gorgeous and the harmonies between Miku and Saiki were just heart-wrenching. Clang is a staple of their current set list, and it should be. The change of pace with the heavy bass-led transition hits me in the gut every time. This was a bucket-list concert for me, and it lived up to expectation. This is the best rock band on the planet, and they deserve World Domination.
I was at that LA show last year. I stood in front of the Assassin Bassist Misa. She is so bad ass. I'm going to see them play for the 2nd time on the 30th. MISA!! MISA!!! MISA!!! You need to react to these Band-Maid songs from last years live Zepp Tokyo show. Better sound quality. And react to Onset or Don't you tell Me next

You should maybe show these videos to your students, so they can see how good women can be. Bluegrass music has some of the best female musicians in the world so that's another possibility. I don't know what happens to females, at a certain age most give up their ambition, and just become moms (and I don't mean that in a bad way) and give up their aspirations. I've seen it many times

That's an Apples and Oranges comparison. The Babymetal venue is about 10 times the size of the Band-Maid venue and Babymetal is doing 20 performances in the US versus 5 for Band_Maid. People have complained Band-Maid's Dallas venue is too small . It is the smallest in this year's tour and smaller than the places they did last year in LA and SF.
@@rakjr6I know it is the new math but Cambridge room holds 2,500 and South Side Ballroom is 4,000 ok yeah that is 10X more .. Also last tour there were tickets available on day of sale in Dallas which was sad because the promoters didn't know that the whole dynamic of babymetal had changed with the loss of Yui and the addition of dancers to fill her spot. The opening act was good and played a good show. Then it took forever to get Babymetal on the stage and they were on about 40 minutes … We will compare .. umm .. A guy that will do more shows this year than Babymetal has done in 5 years and plays over two hour gigs. He is 71 and is doing three separate tours in the USA alone. Babymetal is over worked.
@@HellenKillerProject Dude, they are in the Cambridge Room which holds about 250 for "receptions" so assume a larger number for a concert. Likely no more than 350. I was being generous. The House of Blues has a separate Music Hall which holds 1000. The entire House of Blues in Dallas can only hold 2500 including the restaurant and every event room . This is from their damn website.
@HellenKillerProject I'm really not sure what you're taliking about. BABYMETAL's Dallas show hasn't happened yet. It's a week from now. There was a slight delay at one US show, but for the most part Avatar have taken the stage at 8 PM, played for 40 minutes, with BABYMETAL coming on at 9:10 PM. On this tour BABYMETAL have consistently played for a little over an hour, not 40 minutes. Maybe you got them confused with the opener. As @rakjr6 mentioned, BAND-MAID's Dallas venue for this tour is the Cambridge Room at the House of Blues, which is advertised as holding 250. BABYMETAL's Dallas venue holds 4,000. BAND-MAIDS largest venue on this tour is the Echoplex in Los Angeles which holds 780, which they are playing two nights in a row. BABYMETAL will be playing the LA Forum, which holds slightly more. : ) EDIT: It looks like you were talking about BABYMETAL's appearance last year in Dallas. Not sure what that has to do with anything. Yes, 2018 was a difficult year for BABYMETAL. This year they have a new album coming out, a bunch of collaborations, and their first arena concert in the USA. That LA Forum concert will have a "live viewing" in 51 theaters in Japan.
@@rickwagner-You know that Babymetal played Dallas in 2018, the day after they announced YUI was not on the tour and it was not a very tight production. It was at The House of blues ..

Miku ( rhythm guitar ) Started learning guitar after Saiki joined as vocalist. She's been playing for around 6 years now.
Moratorium is my favorite live ( I like the crowd participation ) th-cam.com/video/N7BQCkUb4SI/w-d-xo.html
Don't You Tell Me has a good back and forth between Misa and Kanami th-cam.com/video/foqErbEw05o/w-d-xo.html
Onset is an instrumental that really shows off their skills th-cam.com/video/ud0pxII3YwM/w-d-xo.html
Misa's been playing bass since high school years.
Thanks!
Thank you 🙌
MISA (bass) plays without footwear so she can sense the vibration from Akane's drums so she can integrate with her rhythm and link with the tone of Miku and Kanami's riffs.
The Bassist, drummer, and guitarist all have music degrees and are all multi-instrumentalists (although they don't do a lot of that live in Band-Maid ... so far)
They have a catalog of over 70 songs, and there is not a single stinker in the lot.
They all have interesting onstage and off stage personalities that you'll eventually learn about
They do an 'April Fools Joke' every year for their fans, where they dress up in traditional Maiko (Geisha in training) costumes, add some traditional instrument sounds and style to their songs (some of their best work IMO ... while not as hard and heavy as their usual stuff, like you said their musicianship is impressive, and what they do in their Band-Maiko songs is an incredible job of production and arrangements.)
They sometimes do some of their live songs acoustic as well.
BAND MAID - ONSET LIVE
Will be the next one 🤘
Great choice! This is the link to use: th-cam.com/video/ud0pxII3YwM/w-d-xo.html
Need to listen to Puzzle or Onset by them.
Band-Maid review Los Angeles, 30 Sept 2019
First, in case you didn’t know (ha ha) Band-Maid has a devoted following.
They are in their mid-twenties. Formed the group in 2013.
The Band has been together since 2013. Saiki the lead singer was 17 at the time with the rest of the band in their very early 20s.
Alright, that's 2 BAND-MAID reactions and only 30 or so more to go. We'll all be here.

🤘🙏
I was at that LA show last year. I stood in front of the Assassin Bassist Misa. She is so bad ass. I'm going to see them play for the 2nd time on the 30th. MISA!! MISA!!! MISA!!! You need to react to these Band-Maid songs from last years live Zepp Tokyo show. Better sound quality. And react to Onset or Don't you tell Me next
Check out Ironbunny - 23, the hottest rock band from Japan.
People call them the new Babymetal and they even have a cyborg guitarist!
Coming to LA end of the month at Echo Park/LA.... prob need after market tix cause sold out....
Will start looking for one thank you!! 🤘

@@Luniversed will see you there on the 30th. It is going to be epic.
@@Luniversed Amigo, you need to react to this 15 year old Japanese girl who plays Dragonforce guitar and with HER FEET she plays the bass of the same song at the same time... its the most amazing feat I've ever seen no joke... jawdropper.... th-cam.com/video/z6Nqq2QXBiE/w-d-xo.html
Also from Japan
Also all female
Mary's Blood
There are others but my old head banged brain forgets stuff....lol...
Wait.... Aldious! It's all good.
Also The Hu from Mongolia.
This band is bada$$!!! I prefer them over Babymetal personally!! 🤘🤘❤️🤘🤘
Can we talk about just how kick a$$ that Bass Player and Drummer are?? Especially the rythmic interplay between them?? Fan-freakin-tastic!! 🤘🤘 And if listen closely about 1/4 to 1/3 of the words are in English on purpose!! 😉
2:10 How long have they been playing music? Every one of them, with the exception of Miku (rhythm guitar), has been playing a musical instrument since they were small children.
Yes, but Kanami didn't start playing guitar until high school IIRC. She was trained on piano from an early age.
It may have been mentioned but the bassist (Misa) and the drummer (Akane) both attended the same music school. The lead guitarist (Kanami) seems to have been around music a while. Kanami also plays and writes on the piano. Try these videos:
"Moratorium" - has a heavy sound, a little bass guitar & double bass magic, th-cam.com/video/N7BQCkUb4SI/w-d-xo.html
"Puzzle" - the lead guitarist hardly stops, th-cam.com/video/3OuO0pgCBUo/w-d-xo.html
live is the way to go for Band Maid if you ask me .. so:
1: Don't you tell me live th-cam.com/video/foqErbEw05o/w-d-xo.html
2: Puzzle live th-cam.com/video/3OuO0pgCBUo/w-d-xo.html
the third one is special if you want something different
3.1: Rock in me live (Miku main vocals) th-cam.com/video/X_c2WbqDNwc/w-d-xo.html
3.2: Puzzle + Anemone live (acoustic) th-cam.com/video/aOixj8XE8Ew/w-d-xo.html
3.3: Onset live (Instrumental) th-cam.com/video/ud0pxII3YwM/w-d-xo.html
But lets be honest .. every song from Band Maid is worth listening to
Haha there you go . Band maid officials live kicks ass . Try this one don’t you tell me for a nice guitar/ bass interaction.

Band maid makes me smile a lot also.
Any other stuff from them? ALL OF IT. I kid you not! There is not a bad song in their catalog that I can find.
Now you've stepped off into it. As far as a Hard Rock band goes, they are among the best in the business. Great playing, composition, arrangements, production, the whole package. If you'd have told me 10 years ago one of my favorite bands would be 5 Japanese women in maid outfits, I'd have laughed in your face. Yet, here we are. Try Moratorium th-cam.com/video/N7BQCkUb4SI/w-d-xo.html
Exactly....
This is a band that makes you want to pickup your instrument.
But for me Versailles (- Faith and decision) is a band that challenge me to get even better at mine.
Been playing bass since 1966 and all I can say is MISA MISA MISA. MISA is kind of like a hard rock Tal Wilkenfeld.
This is their mission statement “ World domination “= 世界征服。you can find this into Secret MIKO rips official video.
Great reactions!
Have you ever reacted to the Japanese band name Scandal? If not, I can give you some suggestions for songs by Scandal.
please do also "onset" and " don't you tell me(live)"
Браза, слушай Костю, Костя плохого не посоветует :-)
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is japanese rock music. You're in for a treat, so many awesome bands! My recommendation for todays is Arukara: th-cam.com/video/dFeb2LLMp4A/w-d-xo.html Song title translates to something like "There's not enough weirdness in the world" haha
Will get to it, loving the music so far 🤘
The only issue I have with your reaction.. the ONLY issue... is where your sitting...... your covering up my wife and myself at that concert right in front of MISA (the bassist) 😁🤟
Maybe that was intentional : )
Any more songs? Just another 25-30 or so like that. If you want another with a bit of back and forth between lead and bass, try Take Me Higher...th-cam.com/video/vFyYiPDZzdw/w-d-xo.html
You should do a reaction to their song "Take Me Higher" the back and forth between the bass and guitar on the solos is awesome. Misa is slapping the crap out of her bass. th-cam.com/video/vFyYiPDZzdw/w-d-xo.html
Nao Kawakita (drummer and founder of The Maximum the Hormone) she already has two children, and MtH continues to explode with energy at concerts and bring down the house.
Turn Me On (live) or Matchless Gum (live) please.
You should react to Ningen isu => Heartless Sact
band made started in 2014 not bad for a top band
Try Screaming. Band-Maid's most metal song.
Bro stick to Live recording reactions for this band. That's the perfect way to get the feel for what these ladies are all about.

Tht the some of the band tht i know..
Band Maid sold out Dallas in 10 minutes after the pre-order. Babymetal hasn't sold out yet on the 16th .. a week away ...
EDIT: It looks like you were talking about BABYMETAL's appearance last year in Dallas.
Still waiting for that babymetal- rondo of nightmare reaction lol
Lol editing as we speak should be up today 😂
