Kinda glad that this series is getting a remaster. Modern Warfare is basically unrivaled, except for Ghosts. But Ghosts had such a bullshit ending that I kinda fear any of the studios trying to remaster or remake it. Any sequel would be kinda shit too, unless we got the Modern Warfare team on it. I revisited this finally and I completely understand more about how General Shepard felt when this shit went down. I was pretty pissed off no one survived, since I really love this squad of soldiers. It was a big fuck you to the player [good writing obviously, not everyone survives and the nuke scene perfectly sets this up.] and Shepard. Imagine your troopers kicking ass but suddenly someone ends it with one blow. You lose pretty much every unit and while the world talked about it.. there was barely any mention of the troopers after the news went global. You feel responsible for their deaths because well- you led them into it. Many good men and women died yet no one seemed to really want to talk about it, perhaps they were too sad to do so… or they never really cared. While this doesn’t justify anything he does in MW2, you can’t 100% hate him.
These are Marines in COD 4/MWR, but I totally agree. Part of you feels empty, disposed of, and given the short end of the stick. Worst of all, there’s nothing you can about it. While Shepherd went off the deep end, you can’t blame him for wanting to bring justice.
Marines arent Soldiers, that's the Army. But yeah it's pretty shit, i loved playing as the Marines and would love to see them come back as in other CoD games along with a playable Marine

in the context of the story the bigger loss will have been the civilian lives lost. the US was invading a foreign country without good reason, not exactly an unforeseen risk.
I always thought it was so fucked up everyone got together, put in the effort to save the heli pilot from a hopeless situation, then watch everyone get nuked. You see the pilot pilot lying on the ground take her final breaths as blood loss and radiation choke her to death. And inevitably it takes the player too. One of gaming's greatest "Fuck you"s
This is probably the most iconic Modern Warfare mission for me because of the Nuke. When I first played COD4 I did not see this coming. I was so blown away! COD4 Campaign storyline is one of the bestest ever written in history of gaming. I still feel this cod had the best campaign out of all cod games because of the proper storyline tie up, the balnce between missions (stealthy SAS missions with Rambo Marine ones).
I remember playing this mission on the original and being absolutely awestruck when I saw the nuke explode. Never experienced something like that in a game up til that point
Or perhaps games will go downhill much the way movies did 20 years ago. Lord of the Rings and Matrix top anything coming out today. Maybe games will never be this polished again.

Fact, almost all of those marine vehicles are now retired or out of service. The helicopters shown have all been replaced. The m1a1 tanks have been removed from service, and the fighters look like Harriers and are almost retired.
Not really. Its because the DSM contain intel about Shepard. So in No Russian. Shepard actualy sent Pfc Allen to die, not to sucessfuly went undercover. And Makarov probably knows about it. If 141 or anybody else know that Shepard planned this war to become a hero. His reputation would be ruined. Thats probably why he betrayed the 141. Or maybe Price and Soap discover something in Afghan that would ruin Shepard.

In my opinion the walk you do after the nuke goes off is alot more haunting in the original game. If you went over to the kids playground you can faintly hear children playing

The entire Army side of the campaign shows us like 3 or 4 completely different parts of the Middle East that they're fighting in, even though the levels Charlie Don't Surf, The Bog, and Warpig are all supposed to be in the same city/area. And the capital city in Shock and Awe is only supposed to be a few miles from the one we were just in.
I can't stress this enough. The Marines would've been able to escape and survive, had they not gone after the shot down pilot. She is what sealed their fate. Playing the hero doesn't always work, y'know.
