I have a newer model P3 and upgraded to the P6 platter and installed it just as pictured above. I also bought an acrylic mat, Tango aluminum sub-platter, Tango legs, and an Edwards belt. It sounds so good paired with a McIntosh MAC 7200 integrated amp, Bowers & Wilkins CM9 speakers, and a Rel S3 sub! It's the whole package.

We're glad that your upgrades to your P3 are paying off in a better sounding experience. Enjoy, and thank you for supporting our channel!

Good to hear it Lou. One nice thing about Rega is that they offer really good product in several price ranges

I'd like to see the RP9 come back - quality above the P6 but with a rectangular plinth or assembled base.

I find the tiecast material very resonate. When tapping it. I can understand why they machined off most of the tiecast material on the p8 and the p10.

First off we have the wool mat which insists on sticking to your records when you lift them off after playing,🤣, my one and only gripe when I first got my rega P3, since replaced with an acrylic mat , so much better and less static too, fabulous turntable and highly recommended, the p6 is even better apparently , British engineering at it's finest, just wish they would ditch that wool mat 😅

Hi Keith, thanks for your comment. Our friends at Rega's North American importer, The Sound Organization, offer this thoughtful reply: "Yes, the wool has a tendency to "stick" to the record - one of the reasons we choose wool. The mat’s individual wool threads go in all directions, even up towards the record's surface. Those individual strands penetrate the grooved walls of the side of the record not being played, gripping the record and joining it to the spinning platter. When the performers play at very high energy, the diamond stylus must faithfully follow wider modulations pressed into the record, despite having to swing further left and right while keeping proper rotational speed. Our ears are very sensitive to tonal shifts resulting from speed of rotation changes. The wool strands gripping the record help stabilize rotation, offering an exit path from where those invisible airborne energy waves generated by your loudspeaker's drivers meet the record. If the speakers’ energy were allowed to build up to a level causing the diamond to mis-track the groove path, we’d have additive distortion, coloring the sound and creating a lack of musical clarity. The wool guides vibrations away from the record into the platter, sub-platter and plinth, to the surface your Rega turntable rests on. At Rega, we tried dozens of mats before settling on premium wool. But there is lots of room to experiment in our wonderful industry, so please feel free to experiment with other mats! Thank you very much - The Sound Organisation”

This turntable has NO VTA adjustment . What could be the reason for this omisson? Anyone who has heard the image improvement via this feature could not live with this turntable.

Hi Dale, thank your for your patience with our reply. Here is a slightly abridged version of Rega's response: “There are two aspects to the VTA conversation. One school of thought; adjust the angle of the diamond to maximize surface contact with the record groove walls. But does that arm height adjustment ability decrease the rigidity of the arm / plinth connection? Rega strives to maximize the rigidity of connecting the platter to the sub-platter, to the plinth, to the arm, to the cartridge body, believing this outweighs any gains heard by adjusting VTA height. Also, as vinyl record thickness can vary significantly, making correct VTA adjustment can be a tricky exercise. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to explain our engineering decisions”.

The problem with the Neo PSU, there is only one adjustment for both 33 and 45 RPM which does not guarantee that both speeds will be correct

Hi Mint, thank you for your comment. In theory that is true, but in practice we have found Neo PSU Mk II to be very accurate in regulating speed

Unless one of the quartz oscillators is bad, and as long as the speed difference does not alter belt slippage to a significant degree, dialing in one speed should in theory be enough to ensure that the other speed is also dialed in. The relation between 33 1/3 and 45 is after all a constant.

Blind listening test A and B
    Chose B 4/5 times..
B WAS A AUDIO TECHNICA DECK AROUND £279.00...A WAS A REGA P8....A DARN SIGHT MORE EXPENSIVE

I have a p7 with an rb1000 and ortofon kontrapunkt B cart. How do you think your p6 would compare

    • @GramophoneMD
      @GramophoneMD  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi Paul! I bet your 'table sounds great. As the P7 is an older model, it's hard to say. No direct comparison is possible at this point as we don't have one to compare it against. Then again, the sound of a 'table can vary widely depending upon cartridge

    What is an "asynchronous" motor?

Hello Mint, the term is really interchangeable with an induction motor:

I have a friend who's real proud of his P6, even though he's legally blind. He asked me to housesit for two weeks. As soon as he left, I put the P6 out in the garden, under the gutter spout. It rained every day, and the plinth melted and warped. Gravity pulled the motor out the bottom. I put the P6 back online just before i welcomed him home. Now he's calling me, going "Jim! Jim! I can hear the platter scraping on the top plate, but i don't know why.". I just play dumb. Next week, he wants me to pick up his girlfriend at the airport.😂
