Nostalgia critic offended a lot of people when he talked about Ghostbusters 2016 and called a category of 'basement gamers' idiots for their views on not liking the movie. I never saw that blow up out of proportion.
I'd put that down to him going along with what the main stream media seemed to be trying to push, which seemed to be that the film was going to be great because it had a female main cast.

I think he's kind of right if it's about people hating it because women are in it. I watched this video when it came out and I remember thinking it made sense, but man it's weird how he stuck byh so much of it like the uncomfortable statistics which is such a 3d issue, black people were often denied loans for mortgages so they had to pay huge amount of interest for their homes in kind of bad neighborhoods which led to a lot of them being disproportionately poor which led to them doing a disproportianate amount of crime is also a way you can take those statistics and it's stupid to me for people to use numbers as an easy shield to be racist rather than as the nuanced metric they can be. I'm mexican and I do agree with him on immigration though, it doesn't seem sustainable to let so many illegal immigrants into the country, and yes some immigration is awesome and a lot of illegal immigration can also be awesome, but it just seems like it's at a level where it's almost encouraged and can't possibly be sustainable to me.

I think anyone who is a fan of Jon’s knows that he is famously bad at debating a topic on the spot. Hearing him fumble through the debate with Destiny wasn’t at all surprising, it’s just a shame it was about such sensitive subjects. I’ve seen this years ago and looking back, I personally believe that JonTron doesn’t know or care about politics, and I feel the same way too. I believe JonTron isn’t comfortable about talking politics and race. That being said, I believe that we should get along regardless of their race, even if you don’t because of personal issues and such, the point is we’re all trying to enjoy something and have fun regardless of who we are or what side we are on. It’s like when Christmas Day happened on No Man’s Land or the trenches in World War One, both sides stopped fighting and just played football against each other. They weren’t killing each other, just having fun with one another. If only everyone else would have that same idea of mindset and we can still do fun things together regardless of who we are or our beliefs.

The only problems I have with JonTrons actions are his use of obviously skewed statistics to make statements on races other than his own. As a black person, I agree that the hate white people get is unwarranted, specific individuals need to be held accountable for prejudice and wrongdoings against others due to their heritage. ( including those who have inherited wealth from ancestors who benefited from slavery, incarceration, and other misdeeds to black people and other like minded institutions). But to cast a blanket statement like all whites are bad, all blacks are bad, or all of a certain demographic is bad is counterproductive in getting things to change in a way where we all coexist. Maybe I’m asking too much and not many people are able to look past these talking points due to conditioning of social media, articles and other things of the like, but it really sucks to have to deal with this type of discourse day in and day out.

I don't get this video. He doesn't go over anything he actually talked about. He just says that people will misconstrue things, and that he believes that in which he didn't say before- IE that we should drop race as a concept in general. I would like him to actually ADDRESS what he said, and break it down how he saw it rather than make a statement that disregards what he says, and what he's saying now. If he said then what he said now it wouldn't have been an issue. I don't think that's how this should work at all. He made claims that were ignorant and instead of going over as to why those were ignorant. He's now doing a complete 180? I'm not saying what Jon is saying here isn't right. Bro, I think Jontron here is trying to calm the shitstorm. He admitted that he wasn't very good at debates, and also that he probably won't bother with them anymore. I understand what you mean, but sometimes when you say dumbshit at the heat of the moment you're too embarrassed to talk about it. I understand that. So instead what he does is he gets his opinions straight in a video he has control over. No surprises, just his opinion in the open air.
The problem is that what he said at the heat of the moment were his opinions too, embarrassed or not his content caters to millions, some of which AGREED with his heat of the moment opinions, whether because they actually believe it or if it was because of him- who can say but the idea is he's watched by at least hundreds of thousands of younger viewers. I don't believe a 4:30 minute video that doesn't even apologize to those he offended with his statements really covers almost 2 hours of him reiterating what he was saying over and over in the debate front, and then on top of that what he said in the video before that about other things that he also doesn't address. I can understand if he's simply ignorant but some of the things he said, statistically speaking or otherwise is just really really messed up, not only to claim to be true but to think to be true. We just should not do that to other people, we shouldn't generalize anything based on evidence that is inconclusive as best and just as misconstrued at worse. People cherry pick things all the time, I understand that. However he can't just say his statements are being misconstrued by people and leave it at that. He doesn't tell you what statements he's talking about which is a band-aid at most. He needs to actually talk about what's going on in this similar setting rather than hiding behind ambiguity. Call it what you will- but giving blanket statements like this is the reason we have a lot of problems in the world, and what led him to the shit storm in the first place.

You don't have to care. I simply choose to because I have a lot of friends on all sides of the issue, as far as immigrants, mixed races, etc. I've also researched a lot on the topic when I studied social sciences and anthropology in general. My searches led me all over the place but I've come to the conclusion that "race" is a social construct. That we have the technology to deal with a lot of the issues we face today- that most if not everything could technically be free after setting it up. It's just about when people decide to start caring about the right things, and stop caring about things that are more or less past prejudices, mixed with present prejudices.
He also said that he probably wouldnt agree with a lot of the things he said in that "debate" if you brought it up. Some people just cant explain what they are thinking well enough on the spot and so they say things that seem like he meant something that he didnt mean. The reason that im even saying that is because i too struggle with this issue, because the way to explain what i mean that first pops into my mind is rarely the way i want to convey that message. People want to rip jon apart, fine, but when he said that he wouldnt agree with a lot of what he said and people are still crying over it, you need to move on and find something better to dedicate your time to, rather than trying to find shit to get offended over and making a big deal out of it in some attempt at retribution when in reality you have no fucking effect on him whatsoever.

I watched this video when it came out and I remember thinking it made sense, but man it's weird how he stuck byh so much of it like the uncomfortable statistics which is such a 3d issue, black people were often denied loans for mortgages so they had to pay huge amount of interest for their homes in kind of bad neighborhoods which led to a lot of them being disproportionately poor which led to them doing a disproportianate amount of crime is also a way you can take those statistics and it's stupid to me for people to use numbers as an easy shield to be racist rather than as the nuanced metric they can be. I'm mexican and I do agree with him on immigration though, it doesn't seem sustainable to let so many illegal immigrants into the country, and yes some immigration is awesome and a lot of illegal immigration can also be awesome, but it just seems like it's at a level where it's almost encouraged and can't possibly be sustainable to me.

I’ve seen this years ago and looking back, I personally believe that JonTron doesn’t know or care about politics, and I feel the same way too. I believe JonTron isn’t comfortable about talking politics and race.
That being said, I believe that we should get along regardless of their race, even if you don’t because of personal issues and such, the point is we’re all trying to enjoy something and have fun regardless of who we are or what side we are on.

What freaking world are we living in. Literal crybabies run the way we look at not only the Internet, but the entire world as a whole. Opinions are non-existent, discussions lead to un-deserving arguments, and people that are trying their hardest to make a living get nothing but death threats just for speaking what they believe in. I know it's never going away, but can't we all just be united as one anymore? The events that Jon went through perfectly summed up our world right now.

The only problems I have with JonTrons actions are his use of obviously skewed statistics to make statements on races other than his own. As a black person, I agree that the hate white people get is unwarranted, specific individuals need to be held accountable for prejudice and wrongdoings against others due to their heritage. ( including those who have inherited wealth from ancestors who benefited from slavery, incarceration, and other misdeeds to black people and other like minded institutions). But to cast a blanket statement like all whites are bad, all blacks are bad, or all of a certain demographic is bad is counterproductive in getting things to change in a way where we all coexist. Maybe I’m asking too much and not many people are able to look past these talking points due to conditioning of social media, articles and other things of the like, but it really sucks to have to deal with this type of discourse day in and day out.

@@buttons551 I accept him owning up to his misstep, but when it comes to speaking on race especially when you have a large platform, you cannot allow yourself to quote blatantly skewed statistics. Wether people like to believe the fact or not, TH-camrs have influence in terms of the beliefs of their fans, so spreading false information can lead to their supporters adapting a harmful ideology. That’s not to say I think Jon Tron shouldn’t have his platform, I love his videos & he’s awake and aware enough to realize he made a mistake. The point of my comment was to explain the core issue from a black point of view.
@@32megakid Well that is his mistake for not doing proper research at the time and just jumping in completely unprepared. He is a funny internet man and it is clear political stuff isn't his forte, articulating himself poorly when put on the spot. I feel most people being put on the spot like that would make some big fumbles in the heat of the moment on such a delicate topic. He should definitely be much more careful how he speaks on such a topic and be more prepared, but I don't fault him too much from firing from the hip like that since he understands what he did wrong and cleared the air in a more proper explanation. But a lot of people seem to want to dangle this mistake over his head nonstop even after all these years and keep calling him some alt right neo nazi for bad takes he made but regrets more than half a decade ago.

I don't get this video. He doesn't go over anything he actually talked about. He just says that people will misconstrue things, and that he believes that in which he didn't say before- IE that we should drop race as a concept in general.
I would like him to actually ADDRESS what he said, and break it down how he saw it rather than make a statement that disregards what he says, and what he's saying now. If he said then what he said now it wouldn't have been an issue. I don't think that's how this should work at all. He made claims that were ignorant and instead of going over as to why those were ignorant. He's now doing a complete 180?
I'm not saying what Jon is saying here isn't right. That we should all just get rid of "Race" instead of using it for one side or another. That I completely agree with. What I don't understand is how people are allowing him to slip away without actually explaining his thoughts on the debate. He needs to do a video break down of the debate and explain his thoughts on it. Or just tell us he was flat out wrong. It's pretty fucked up, especially when I see the same people that were supporting the views Jontron said weren't actually his views here, on that video and on the original statement and this one. Bro, I think Jontron here is trying to calm the shitstorm. He admitted that he wasn't very good at debates, and also that he probably won't bother with them anymore. I understand what you mean, but sometimes when you say dumbshit at the heat of the moment you're too embarrassed to talk about it. I understand that. So instead what he does is he gets his opinions straight in a video he has control over. No surprises, just his opinion in the open air.
The problem is that what he said at the heat of the moment were his opinions too, embarrassed or not his content caters to millions, some of which AGREED with his heat of the moment opinions, whether because they actually believe it or if it was because of him- who can say but the idea is he's watched by at least hundreds of thousands of younger viewers. I don't believe a 4:30 minute video that doesn't even apologize to those he offended with his statements really covers almost 2 hours of him reiterating what he was saying over and over in the debate front, and then on top of that what he said in the video before that about other things that he also doesn't address. I can understand if he's simply ignorant but some of the things he said, statistically speaking or otherwise is just really really messed up, not only to claim to be true but to think to be true.
We just should not do that to other people, we shouldn't generalize anything based on evidence that is inconclusive as best and just as misconstrued at worse. People cherry pick things all the time, I understand that. However he can't just say his statements are being misconstrued by people and leave it at that. He doesn't tell you what statements he's talking about which is a band-aid at most. He needs to actually talk about what's going on in this similar setting rather than hiding behind ambiguity. Call it what you will- but giving blanket statements like this is the reason we have a lot of problems in the world, and what led him to the shit storm in the first place.

Honestly, with how things are at this point who knows maybe my opinion that immigrants for the most part should be welcomed will change. You don't have to care. I simply choose to because I have a lot of friends on all sides of the issue, as far as immigrants, mixed races, etc. I've also researched a lot on the topic when I studied social sciences and anthropology in general. My searches led me all over the place but I've come to the conclusion that "race" is a social construct. That we have the technology to deal with a lot of the issues we face today- that most if not everything could technically be free after setting it up.
It's just about when people decide to start caring about the right things, and stop caring about things that are more or less past prejudices, mixed with present prejudices.
He also said that he probably wouldnt agree with a lot of the things he said in that "debate" if you brought it up. Some people just cant explain what they are thinking well enough on the spot and so they say things that seem like he meant something that he didnt mean. The reason that im even saying that is because i too struggle with this issue, because the way to explain what i mean that first pops into my mind is rarely the way i want to convey that message. People want to rip jon apart, fine, but when he said that he wouldnt agree with a lot of what he said and people are still crying over it, you need to move on and find something better to dedicate your time to, rather than trying to find shit to get offended over and making a big deal out of it in some attempt at retribution when in reality you have no fucking effect on him whatsoever.
