    I love the new composition setting, the one that selects the best angle and lighting conditions. In fact I just let the camera go kayaking without me for some sick footage. Joking aside-your footage and commentary are 10 out of 10! You capture the joy of white water. I’m surprised there aren’t more views but then again kayaking is a side niche thank god.

    Excellent video on GoPro 11 tips. Here’s a few more you can add to a part 2… 1.) Camera angles/mounting: Add more GoPros. Mount a 2nd to bow for selfie view (a Hero 7 is fine for selfie view), Yakattack ball mount on stern is better than Jackson, w/ higher angle, articulation forward, back, side angle (w/ball mount). 2.) Learn/practice setting changes quickly for slow-mo, stabilization. 3.) Exposure compensation to -1 or more as blown hilights can’t be recovered, a lot more can be lifted from the shadows (universal truth). 4) GoPro’s fast shutter speeds don’t make for natural motion blur. If you’re gonna do a stationary camera move handheld or on pole/paddle, use slow-mo and move very slowly. 5.) As GoPro is a fixed aperture, 24 or 30fps won’t properly expose without an ND filter (highly recommended when you don’t want that freeze-frame jitter). The times you definitely want 24 or 30fps are any shots where you’re NOT on the water… panning, tilts, tripod, campsite, walking, etc. 6.) In post/editing, having a variety of dramatically different shots and angles makes for a much better edit. 2 cameras running at all times, even 3 at times if you have them. 7.) Use the app, also buy the remote wristbands for each camera. 8.) The Olympus Tough TG-6 is a great addt’l camera. Waterproof, optical zoom… really good for 3rd person and other non-paddling video and photos. Stabilization isn’t as good as GoPro, but ok for handheld.

    I was watching your video and tried the link to your cheat sheet for settings, but it is not found. Can you add it to the description?

    Great Vid Bren. I'd be really interested to see a video of the other camera kit you use as well. Mirrorless or DSLR and what editing techniques/software you use.

    Do you also use ND Filters on top of these settings?

    Hi Brent. What is your take on the Max Lens Mod for WW kayak shots? Thanks for the tips and the cheatsheet!!! Super helpful. I tested them on my local run. You saved me hours of fooling around

    What's a good setting to stop my GoPro getting wet?

    That feature where the gopro retains the previous 30 seconds (handy I guess in case you can't press the record button fast enough). Is that only on the GoPro11, or some previous models too?

      Yeah, it's on the HERO9 and the HERO10 as well.

    Hey Bren, are you being sponsored by GoPro?

    Great video as always, Bren, with some fantastic advice. Only thing I'd say is that I've been having great results without licking with the hydrophobic lens of the 10 and 11, as long as you give it a gentle buff with a cloth before going onto the river and don't touch it with fingers. I'm torn with Hyperview! I'm kind of addicted to it despite the distortion. I'm really hoping that the next GoPro has a wide lens to match the DJI Action 3, which has an even wider angle of view, but with much less distortion.

      @FORTRANWW ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's why imo the Action 3 is the superior action cam for kayaking atm. DJI color science is better (especially in D-Cinelike), and the increased FOV without the ridiculous distortion makes for dynamic but not-distracting footage. 5.3K vs 4K is kinda a moot point and a non-win imo

    • @simonwyndham
      @simonwyndham ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FORTRANWW Colour science is a subjective thing, and both cameras have their own plusses and minuses. The Action 3 doesn't have the dynamic range of the GoPro, and its picture settings are not as adjustable (you can't turn the digital edge enhancement down or off for example). But, the Action 3 is a great camera, and its battery life is excellent. Although for outright image quality, the GoPro still wins for me if when using manual white balance. I did some side-by-side comparisons with the HERO11 in my review of the Action 3 here. th-cam.com/video/juNyccoclAM/w-d-xo.html
      What's good though is that DJI's improvements mean that it spurs GoPro on to be even better in the next release and vice versa, so we all benefit from better gear.

      @@simonwyndham no doubt, and what's right for one person might not give the look another person wants. I definitely wish the Action3 had the dynamic range of the GoPro, but I prefer the wide FOV the OA3 has for POV and the battery life is too good. Cameras, man.
      Great review btw

    Why does "sick" mean good. It seems bad. If someone is sick, their traditionally not good.
