This entire album is so raw and emotional. As someone who grew up and lives in the Midwest, this has been my number one fall season album for years. It fits so perfect driving/biking around on a crisp sunny fall day.
Oh god, Conor has an amazing ability to make me cry. His voice is so filled with emotion and so raw that it always makes me stop and feel entirely different.
I had a ten minute dream in the passenger's seat with this album playing. It was a rainy night in early spring. It was the beginning and the end. We haven't spoken in years, and it does feel like a lifetime.
A while ago, I moved downtown with a friend of mine, and lived there for a few months. This song perfectly describes those nights. We'd drink all day and roam around at night, going from burrito joint to burrito joint, it's was probably one of the strangest times in my life. And this song fits so perfectly.
saw him perform live a few times in southern California back in the mid 2000's.....had all these albums.....he played an amazing acoustic in San Diego back in 2005, drove up to Santa Barbara to see him in the rain. Those were the days.....
Read Icculus!! This was a great time for Bright Eyes.... totally hitting the pinnacle, as a songwriter and performer, that you hope you can reach one day. Thanks so much for this great content. It must be preserved for future generations!
No, definitely agreed. His voice is so raw in this song, since I heard this, I stopped listening to the other. Because you just..stop paying attention to how it sounds, and you listen to the lyrics, it's the most calming thing ever.
+Julián Esteban Avila Perdomo Hey guys I actually have this whole performance on my computer. It actually should still be on here from where I got it on.
Wow,this is a well written song if ever there was.Hugs to everyone that tried to deal a heatbreak with sedation.live and learn.its okay to cry it into a p.b.s. shot instead.
i was going to an MVB concert in detroit and i got there like 5 hrs early and him and nate were just standing outside and i went up to talk to them and conor just gave me a hug. then we talked about random crap like coffee and travel. then when i walked away i realized i didnt get a picture and i turned around and they were getting into a tour bus.
I guess I'm the only one who thinks this version is better! He sounds more vulnerable, and I like the way he handles himself without the female harmonizing.
Does anybody know how come Conor always gets interviewed alone? I mean, they are a band. So how come Mike Mogis isn't in the all the interviews? Is it just the way he (mike) preferes it? I'm just curious :)
@11Jurriaan im not sure what hes symbolizing but im pretty sure they used to send a yellow bird down a coal shaft to see if it was safe or something... hopefully that helps you haha
I saw Bright Eyes last night. They were amazing! Is he performing in Austin, Tx? It looks like the state capital and the UT tower are in the background.
"And like a ten minute dream in the passenger seat
While the world was flying by
I haven't been gone very long
But it feels like a lifetime"
Those lyrics explain how 1 second for God can be equal to 1 million years of existence for us human beings
He's incredible. I hope he knows how many people he's helped with his music.
For sure butttt uhhhhh they* and their* Conor is clearly the man but it is a band.
Literally one of the best poets of all time. God bless him and keep him safe
One of the best songwriters that ever existed IMO. Such an incredible talent.
My heart absolutely breaks every time I watch these videos. I've only seen him live once but it was the best show I've ever been to.

❤The first Bright Eyes song I ever heard. Changed me inside.
I have the biggest heterosexual mancrush on Conor Oberst. What a beautiful and incredible man.
he looks so young here! i can't imagine being that young and having that much talent.
He really is Gods gift to music.
IT REMINDS ME OF THE KIND OF FRIENDS I COULD AFFORD IN THE 1990S.

I love everything about this song, his voice, all the beautiful feels I get just listening. What an experience
Such a GREAT poet and SINGER :D
I can't believe I went like 10 years not listening to his music. I just started again and I still fucking love it
How have he and Andy Hull never done an album together? Their cadence, tones, and lyrics match almost perfectly.
perfection isn't even enough.never will get credit for his genius.saw him 3 times and loved every minute

Are there really 311k people that have watched this or are there 311 people who have each watched this little masterpiece 1000 times?

he's more than words.
greatest man to ever breathe.
nothing could ever do justice for the music he makes.

Seeing him live was one of the greatest concerts I've ever been to. He is my God.
This song breaks my heart everytime I hear it
I cannot wait to see his face in March. My life will be complete.
My Morning jacket played the best version of Golden on this episode I’ve ever heard. Incredible
the head-shake he does after he sings "i keep it for good luck"
Pure beauty. The Yellow Bird is a chip shop in Glasgow.
man that was fantastic. exactly how i felt a few days ago. just a lovely song
Probably one of the most stunning songs i have ever heard! Top mann:)
It's a reference to "Came a Yellow Bird" by Simon Joyner, who Conor says was one of his bigger influences.
Wow,this is a well written song if ever there was.Hugs to everyone that tried to deal a heatbreak with sedation.live and learn.its okay to cry it into a p.b.s. shot instead.
mike is always shredding on every instrument he picks up
“Why are you scared to dream of god? When it’s salvation that you want”

so much soul!
Very reminiscent of Elliott Smith
yesssss
Except Elliott Smith could sing and had a much stronger grasp of melody than this whiny loser
It's on my bucket list to have the top comment on the greatest video on youtube, please let me have this one
Conor understands life better than anyone else
Thanks for submitting. ^__^
I love his eyes in these performances.
definitely the best version of this i've heard.... definitely better than the album version
Love this song, superb lyrics.
"If you swear that theres no truth and who cares? Why do you say it like you're right?"
Aww, that sucks! At least you have the experience of straight up having a conversation with him!
So underrated dude..
This is my favourite song ever!
amazing. sounds almost like on the record...even almost better
i'm tearing up he's so amazing and talented and i love this song
WHY ARE YOU SO PERFECT, CONOR
Conor is my guru but holy shit, Mike Mogis is such a genius too. Amazing duo.
i love this version.
i'm melting.....haha
Vocally flawless IMO
That was probably just you singing along to this amazing song, it's impossible not to.
I love this song.
Great song!
@mollybird123 This is from the television show Austin City Limits. It's a great show! I think most local PBS affiliates carry it.
... so beautiful... :-)
I guess I'm the only one who thinks this version is better!
He sounds more vulnerable, and I like the way he handles himself without the female harmonizing.
I wish I could give you more thumbs ups for your word choice.
he gave me a hug
Is it weird that I can still hear Emmylou's backing vocals?
i love love love this
Memories to this song
Great lyrics. Great song. This guy could be the next Dylan if he got over himself.
Also I had a great time listening to the song while I typed the identical copy of what you wrote.
I believe you. I saw you comment on another video about how handsome he was. lol.
Briiliant!

@JanuaryWonder this is a band not a solo project
Conor Oberst is a lyrical mastermind.
I've been sleeping so strange at night...
Conor Oberst is a lyrical god.
ladies and gentlemen, I present to you...the world biggest tool.
so special
@radicalsquadron
just get the guitar tab for it, it's tabbed on Ultimate guitar, and just work out the notes back on the mando - that's what I did
@11Jurriaan im not sure what hes symbolizing but im pretty sure they used to send a yellow bird down a coal shaft to see if it was safe or something... hopefully that helps you haha
i love conor oberst so so so so so much
mike mogis doesn't get half the credit he deserves.
I saw Bright Eyes last night. They were amazing! Is he performing in Austin, Tx? It looks like the state capital and the UT tower are in the background.

Because religion is a relevant factor in human civilization and should be criticized like everything else relevant.
Let's hear your song.
