    What beautiful work! I'm probably one of the least artistic people on the planet, but I wanted to make a little memorial painting of my stepdaughter's two dogs that she lost to illness in less than a couple of months. I couldn't figure out how to add texture to a dog with totally dark black fur, but I think making a brush as you've shown will definitely help.

    Thanks for showing how to make that brush, that's helpful. But why would you trim it straight across? Why not at an angle to make hairs that aren't all the same length?

    • @TheDevonArtist
      @TheDevonArtist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lisa, yes I've tried cutting the bristles many different ways to see how the effect would look, and the way you just mentioned is one of them. I also find that shaving the hairs down the length with a craft knife can give you a sort of feather cut, giving you different length hairs. Paul 🎨

      Hi Maria, thank you very much for watching my video of this lovely girl called 'Jessie'. I'm really glad it helps you, especially when painting fur.
      This video on here is a collection of clips from my main video, when my paid members on my website get to follow the full nearly 5 hours of this tutorial from start to finish. This is also where they can download the outline drawing and the reference photo alongside the colour chart as well. There are over 100 video tutorials there as well.
      At least my video here on TH-cam has given you some good ideas to go along with, and to me, that's fantastic. Thank you so much for following me on here. Paul 🎨

    Loved the replicator brush. Will definitely make and use one. I use a deer foot brush or size 00 brush for fur, fine details and semi dry paint. Thank you for the video

      Thank you Anuradha, yes these are very handy to have and each one you make comes out differently. I've never heard of a deer foot brush, I'm off to do some Googling now... Paul 🎨

    Thank you! Really good! I would like (someday) to paint my brother’s dog for them but it is one of the small fluffy dogs and I think that it will probably be difficult! I started once but all I have is a paper with two eyes staring out of the otherwise blank page!🙃 someday I will get the courage to go further! Thank you for sharing your teaching!💕

    • @TheDevonArtist
      @TheDevonArtist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do it Donna! As long as you do plenty of planning for your colour and composition before you start, you should be fine. Having a good plan beforehand is the way I work, it saves far too many mistakes during the painting process. Paul ;-)

    Oh my goodness, this is wonderful! I did just find you, and I am into wildlife and photography. I am an oil painter, wanting to improve my watercolor so badly!! I have a little black and white Shitzu I am wanting to paint and I think I can use the principles in this painting. He is jet black and white. Would I still use the variation in colors? Thank you for your sharing your knowledge!

    • @TheDevonArtist
      @TheDevonArtist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lynda, thank you very much. Yes, I would personally use similar foundation colours before layering the details over the top, just so you have a good varied background that will show through. Consider the placement of the colours 'behind the scene' and you will be fine. Paul 🎨

    Very inspiring to see your work. I am working on a giraffe right now so wondering if you have done it. Stuck at the texture of the skin. Would love to learn.

    • @TheDevonArtist
      @TheDevonArtist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alwyn,x not this is something I do wish to paint at some point, but I can imagine how the skin mustd be to paint. Without seeing a photo and spending time working the colours and texture ideas out, I would possible test using the dry brush technique and a light softening afterwards. Paul 🎨

      Yes I do! 😀 I like to have a little bit of life to look at, at the very beginning, rather than a couple of voids where the eyes should be. 😊
