I do think Fender MIM has a better QA than they do but still... Besides the modelers have come such a long way, you can make any guitar sound amazing on them lol.
Julian was the perfect choice to demo the Tele; he is able to showcase the guitar's tonal range and versatility plus he plays one regularly. Nicely done GC!

I had the same thought. I feel that jazz guitar generally is not as interesting as other jazz instruments because of the lack of harmonic variance and expressiveness (relative to other instruments). Julian turns this on it’s head.
Whatever GC paid his to do this quick Ph.D level dissertation about the Telecaster… it wasn’t enough. Even if you don’t like Jazz or know who this guy is, it’s a masterful, thoughtful discussion on the greatness of the Telecaster.
I got to see him and Nels Cline touring behind their borderline inaccessible, heavily improvised duo project. It kicked ass. We were right in front of the stage in a jazz club and it was a borderline religious experience.

Very refreshing to hear someone demo a guitar CLEAN so we can really hear its voice, and not through distortion pedals which mask the sound of the instrument. If I hadn't already purchased a new Tele, I'd buy one of these just because of this demo. Well done.
You can really hear the heritage of Bill Frisell in Julian’s playing. Both approach the instrument very differently from nearly all of us, and create some very unique music.
So good to hear the real sound of the guitar without distortion. Not many are able to do this, and no one like Julian for shure...thanks much for this jewel of a demo.
A lot of respect for you guys at Guitar Center for getting someone like Julian to do a new guitar demo - would love to go in to a store one day and hear more people playing like this.
I'll echo my fellow commenters in expressing my amazement that GC got the astonishing Julian Lage for this. More importantly for me, finally a guitar launch demo where i actually got to hear the guitar throughout the whole thing. This is almost unknown. Bags of distortion and attitude typically mask what the instrument actually sounds like. We even get to hear the 'no pedals' tones here. Lets not get into Mr Lage's prowess, lest we all give up and god forbid take up something awful, like golf.
i didnt expect to sit through a 15 minute GC demo video.. but for what ever reason, Julian Lage's marketing team has him everywhere right now.. so I absolutely sat through this master class of a demo video.
Yes! We all know a Tele plays Stairway to Heaven (clean and dirty), but having Julian show how faaaaaar these things stretch is a WIN! Would love to see him demo an LP too lol.

Love how Julian gets such a warm tone in all 3 positions. He avoids the thin, ice pick tone a lot of demos have even with stock 9’s (he plays 11’s on his Tele). Great demo!!!
@@jazzizm @editorjuno You're both right depending on the year. He went from 11s with a wound G in 2016, to 11s with a plain G around 2018 iirc, to flatwounds 11s with a plain G in late 2022 (a plain 21 on his tele if he hasn't changed that since).
Julian is top of the tops; as others have said this is a master class at every level. First demo ever that I watch in full, no fast forwards or closing it earlier ( and I have probably watched hundreds if not more). Throughly enjoyable! Good job GC!

Fender made a wise decision to get Julian to demo the new Player II Telecaster. He's such a great player and humble person. These guitars look great. Definitely a plus bringing back the rosewood boards and more traditional style tuners. If the quality control is good these are a no-brainer. If I didn't already have a great Tele already I'd definitely be looking closely at these!
I saw him in August for the first time it was incredible. I bumped into him at a restaurant and my son got a pick from him. We talked for about 10 minutes he is one of the most humble nicest people you could ever meet.
So soft spoken with such sweet clean tones, don't let this man fool you, he is a beast and will crush you like a fly but you won't hear any crunch as he does it, Scary AF
If you are considering buying this guitar AVOID THIS DEMO, this is Julian Lage, he could easily make a 20 dollar guitar sound like a custom Shop, you´ve been warned, you will NOT sound like him (even with a custom shop lol).

When I see his left hand spanning six frets like that, I realize that there's a different world out there. But if Julian Lage, Bill Frisell, Ted Greene, and Bruce Springsteen play Telecasters, it's worth a look, even if it's a Squier.

For me Julian is the guy who is making "jazz" accessible to a new generation of listeners. He brings melody back where it belongs; front and center.

@@jorymil get a good tube amp, that's more important. Classic vibe telecasters are great, and so are Indonesian G&L asats for around $300-$500
