Hello, Brandan. I know it's not about the video but I wanted to mention something. Sometimes I see you a little bit hopeless about the future of this channel. I just wanted to say that the effort you put into your thumbnails, your studio, your topics, your speech, your visuals, and your scholarly approach to the christianity are magnificent. I know, some days it seems hard but please continue your videos, man. I live in Turkey, so cannot use patreon. Alongside your patreon, why not open youtube "join" button. Would love to support you, and this channel you created.
I can't take God seriously when he puts a freaking tree right smack in the middle of the Garden of Eden and tells Adam and Eve that is the only tree they can not touch, KNOWING they will disobey him, then he gets to punish them for it. Does God take pleasure in punishment? ABSOLUTELY!!!!
Ever since I took off my God glasses and reread the Bible with my actual eyes, I can see how mythological it truly is. Any rational person should be able to see that the Bible, especially Genesis, is on the same level as Greek, Roman, Norse, and even Messapotamian mythology. The stories are so mythological.
Even if we stripped away all of the Christian claims of him being all-anything so he wouldn't know they were going to eat the fruit beforehand, the fact he put it right in the middle of the garden on purpose is just so laughably stupid.
There is that part in The Lord's Prayer, (Said to be given to us by Jesus), You know the verse: Lead us not to temptation! I have to ask; Why would any Responsible Parent "Lead their children to Temptation?
It almost makes sense if you're someone who believes Satan has free will and is capable of redemption. Since he's a more powerful and magnificent creation than any individual human being, God is softballing him in hopes that he'll eventually come back. Basically, if Satan is God's favorite kid then letting him get away with all his crap and not doing anything about it makes a certain amount of sense. Not much, mind you, but a certain amount.
Yes! And weirder still that there could even exist humans by whom God is so threatened that he must regard them as enemies, and against whom He must actively, sometimes preemptively, carry out His divine rampage
Man: “Hey God, whatcha doing”? God: “Drowning every man, woman and child because they have become too wicked and I need to start the world over with that one family on the Ark”. Man: “Oh………since you know everything, does it end up working”? God: “No, they still turn around and disobey me after this so I end up having to send my son down thousands of years after this event to have him killed to appease me to set the world straight”. Man: “Oh………………………does THAT end up working”? God: “No, 2/3 of the world either still don’t believe in me or believe in a wrong God”. Man: “Sooooooooooooo…………………why are you flooding the world again”?????
@thegunsngloryshow When you hold his treatment of humans up to the standards of care for animals, his animal husbandry skills would at minimum get him in jail with massive fines in almost every U.S. state. Funny how God is held to a different standard
god reminds me of an abusive father who tells his kid, “this hurts me more than it hurts you” when he spanks them, but he actually enjoys the power and control he has to carry out that punishment.
Abuser: "I didn't wanna clock ⏰ you in the face...but you made me do it!!!! Now bow down to me... I'll take you out to dinner later..." *Cycle repeats*
Same here. An actual god should be so much better a person than even the best of people. The abrahamic gods aren't even very imaginative, and seem ignorant of so many things; it's almost like they were made up by ignorant barbarians...
The gods have always reflected the pettiness of the people and cultures inventing them. It's no coincidence that the most religious people in the world are also the most hateful, ignorant, hypocritical and stupid people on the planet. They are so limited as human beings that they can't even CONCEIVE of an "ideal being" that is any better than they are.
When I was indoctrinated as a teen, I would read these verses through the filter of "He's God, he can do whatever he wants." Looking at it for what it is, is so disturbing.
...And since were "made in his image and likeness" our appalled behaviour means were naturally turned off by this bible god, instead of relating bc were so similar. just deepens the confusion
After I left christianity it felt so weird reading through the bible without a christian bias and wondering how I ever believed this stuff. It somehow it made sense to me back then because my mind was so warped and twisted.
He definitely does, most of the creations on this planet are born just to suffer. Animals, insects, fish, plants. WHY are their existences so agonising? Why do most animals eat each other alive? Why did god create humanity in a way that most humans suffered in this life and will burn in hell because they weren't born in the middle east? Why did he create sadists? Why were we created with an inclination towards sin? All so god could watch us suffer, then save a few of us and tell the ones he saved that he is great and merciful?
This is why man I believe the Bible has no LOGIC! First of all there are millions and billions of contradictions and scientific errors and even if you just ignore those things the Bible literally shows God as the main villain and I say literally I mean LITERALLY! like wtf! I believe in God and i believe there is a power or an energy from which everything came from but this Abrahamic God just can't be that it was written in the fuckin iron age with an intention to control people With fear and death psycho
Yep. God is the epitome of an abusive husband. He seems to be intoxicated with punishment and destruction. Fear is the motivation to stay in the "relationship"
There is a popular episode of The Twilight Zone (It's a Good Life) in which a little boy has vast powers. He has already wiped out the whole world except for this small community, and he sends anyone who doesn't adore him and praise him to a horrible death. Consequently, everyone smiles and tells him how wonderful he is. Although it may seem obvious to atheists, Christians never seem to recognize the parallels.😊
Yet not one word is mentioned about the sinfulness of humanity. It is ok with the professing atheist to say that God is an evil tyrant, but it's ok to says that people are as sweet as apple pie. What hypocrisy! No matter how they want to twist the Word of God to make God look the bad guy, it will only come back to them in the mirror of the Word of God indeed how wicked and evil are their own deeds. The Lord Jesus Christ laid His sinless life down for the sinner. And those who harden themselves in the deceitfulness of their sin will continue to mock and scoff at the very one who shed His blood on the cross to free them from their helpless and hopeless state of their enslavement to sin.
I remember talking to a co-worker who was supposedly studying theology from an online course. He started proselytizing at the workplace, but instead of saying he shouldn't do that I challenged him. When I told him how his "all good" god loves to see a lot of death and destruction through war, he amazingly enough tried to show how good God was by pointing to more wars! 🤦 Every time I told him, "well, that means all God isnt all good." he would bring up another war. Even my other co-workers, who were believers, understood my point, but just shook their head about how bad of a job the supposed student of theology was doing. At least they admitted they didn't really have an answer, and knew war wasn't a good thing. Does studying Christianity really twist logic to the point of absurdity? Going by that experience I would say, "yes". At that point I realized, more than I did before, that Christians really don't see non-Christians as humans first, rather as the other. God is "all loving" only to the ones that love him back.
@@MindShift-Brandon , absolutely right. Look what he did to his own son. Never mind a guy who was just picking up sticks and children walking around nude in a garden. 🤦
That last point is really spot on! An important thing to keep in mind is that, for most believers, the stories are simply text on a page, and the human mind naturally defaults to "a million is a statistic"...It may help, esp when going over biblical stories, to paint the picture: Those Philistines? Those were villages and towns of PEOPLE, just like you, going about their daily lives, following their careers, getting married, raising their children, sharing hobbies with friends after work...until one day, a Horde of raiders came over the hill, killing without mercy, burning down everything, even killing the animals that are normally taken for wealth, for no reason or motive other than the relentless cry of "Milk and Honey!!" Really putting people in their shoes helps give a different perspective...
@@HandofOmega , amazing how our brains still default to tribalism, right? It's still happens greatly today. The thing about Christians, however, is that they feel they have a "justified reason" because for their beliefs in something they can't even show exist. Which I think is even more dangerous. Stealing resources is bad enough, but at least there's something there we can possibly come to some sort of agreement on. But beliefs can be made up and and justify along the way, especially from a vague source and that can lead a person to do almost anything. Even in more recent times with supposedly more advanced religiously moral people, September 11th and January 6th still happened. One can make the argument for the wars that are happening now. It's obvious Russia is trying to gather resources and stroke egos, but an even bigger atrocity is happening over in Gaza, which is even more deadlier and seems more belief driven. There are enough resources go around I think especially when we put our mind to it, but when we start believing we're more worthy of them than others that's when problems arise. Being idealistic I know, but aren't those ideals are main goal?
It's ridiculous, right? Just let people be. No religious person has the inside track to the mind of a god, yet many of them want to impose their beliefs thinking they have, when it's really just their ego. When it's to the point of them taking rights away, that's when we need to stand up for ourselves or we'll lose everything we've gained. They already took away a woman's right to choose, and some of them are already on track justifying slavery in the Bible. Hate to use a slippery slope argument, but there is evidence of religion being harmful in that way. What else they'll justify using their religion? "Might equals right" is already dangerous enough, especially when they think they have an all-powerful god blessing them. Still, I don't mind people believing what they want to believe as long as it doesn't hurt anybody else and they keep it to themselves. I think if more people thought that way we would be much better off.
when a parent punishes, it should never be to deliver justice but to get the child to understand consequences, so as much as possible the punishment should relate to whatever it is they did. Break things for fun...take a toy away for awhile...pitch a screaming fit, we stay home becaue no one wants to be around that. And never, ever punish or decide on a punishment until you are calm so that you don't act in anger or frustration. But hey, what do I know? I'm just an imperfect human.
I've read the Bible and listened to audio recordings of it multiple times over. I'm also something of a student of history. It boggles my mind how similar the God of the Bible is to some of the worst, most evil dictators and despotic rulers this world has ever seen!
"Who has angered the Volcano God? YOU have angered the Volcano God..." now he will spew his vengeance on you until he has satisfied himself, and then he will say Ahhhh, I'm spent, it was good for me was it good for you? Can I get an amen? No? Let's try this again...
I'm pretty sure a loving god would dish out the most lenient of punishment, rehabilitate, suspended sentences, kind stuff. but not vengeful, cruel and unjust punishment, that's what dictators and mafia do.
Bart Erhman points out that The Apocalypse of Peter almost made it into the Bible instead of Revelation, which got in instead for political reasons, but one of the deciding factors is that, after being taken on a guided tour of Hell, Peter is so moved by all the suffering that he prays to Jesus, begging him to forgive everyone...And Jesus, being essentially the God of Mercy, pretty much has no choice but to relent, and redeem them all, letting everyone out of Hell and into Heaven! The early church HATED this, as they needed to hold onto the terror of eternal punishment to maintain social order...I sometimes wonder how all of world history and religion might have been different, if the Bible actually had a truly merciful and Happy Ending like that to cap it off...
It makes me sad and angry at the same time to know this, the stuff Brandon covers. Sad for those who are trapped in the lies, and mad that this bullshit has spun out of control.
@10:05 that's exactly the point. If they step out of line far enough, you have to make an example of them so no one else tries it. The city of Tyre put up such an enormous struggle against Alexander the Great that after he broke through the defenses, his army slaughtered half the population and sold the other half into slavery. After that, no other cities on the coast resisted him. In the fall of 1944 when the Red army was approaching Warsaw, the poles wanted to rise up and take the city so the Russians would arrive at a free city instead of getting credit for liberating them. Despite the fact that Germany was short on fuel, tanks, trained soldiers and had to defend 3 different fronts, they expended an enormous amount of resources retaking Warsaw, destroyed 80-90% of the city, then mass executed 150,000-200,000 civilians and it worked. No matter how close a city was to being liberated, not one other rose up for the remainder of the war. When Crassus defeated Spartacus in the 2nd servile war, he had the 5000 survivors crucified. One cross every 150 feet on both sides of the highway from Capau to the coast. And it worked. The Roman slaves never rose up again. Unfortunately, no matter how many times God made an example of people, they kept defying him.
I find it funny that heaven is said to be a happy place where negative things like hatred, wrath and vengeance are banned and yet a deity possessing the same negative things resides there, which would mean that its breaking the law.
The moment I read that God killed a guy called Uza because he touched the ark trying that it would not fall and touch the ground , my view of him totally changed ."God was enraged with Uza and struck him down" No sin. No desobedience. Just and outburst of rage and violence. And that happened again and again. The god of the bible is one of violence and intimidation.
Okay this is so interesting. I actually never heard that story. I went to Google it and the website says God was justified in killing Uzzah because God had commanded no one could touch the ark. So it went directly against God's law. But like ... He's just a human and he thought he was helping. It was an over exaggeration from God. Crazy actually.
@@darleneee92 he killed one person for touching the ark. Imagine how many would have been killed if the ark had fallen and hit the ground. I guess god would have massacred a couple thousands just for not have been careful enough.
Sorry if this is oversharing but this vdeo resonated with me. I was raised in the quite moderate Church of England (Yep, I'm British). I remember church every Sunday, Sunday school, prayers before meals and bed and prayers during my CoE school assemblies. My mother was and still is a believer and my grandmother was even moreso. Two things were the catalyst for me losing faith. School bullying from age 5 - 16 in said Christian school (both by the teachers (usually humiliating in front of class and yelling at me) and the other students (name-calling, being beaten up, having my things smashed and on one occasion being urinated on)) and later in secondary school (to a lesser extent by the students). My grandmothers death, she had lung cancer, I remember the last 2 or so years of her life were agony, she barely ate, barely got out of bed. Towards the end of her life my mother stayed by her bedside almost constantly, in a sick twist of irony she passed away during the few times my mother was away. She still blames herself for not being with her at the end. I remember during both of these times praying and praying to that things would get better. That the bullies would leave me alone (later turning to "please make the bullies sick today" then "please make their school bus crash"), that my grandmother would get better or at least die painlessly. None of those prayers were answered. I was about 16, when I first said the words "I don't believe in God." I remember telling my parents scolding me and guilt tripping me and threatening me taking away Christmas (probably one reason I hate Christmas now) and "warning" me I would go to hell. While I don't believe that God exists from a rational standpoint, I also hold the belief that it doesn't matter even if He does, because He is not worthy of recognition, let alone praise and worship. He is nothing but a disgusting piece of s#!t j3rk!ng off to humanity's suffering regardless of their beliefs.
I think I finally figured it out. The bible has always been some guy's revenge porn fanfiction written in the perspective of the writer being god. That would explain why Yahweh always sounds like an extremely abusive husband. And then other people started adding to the fanfiction, kind of like the SCP Foundation which is why the writing is all over the place. And then people who aren't in on the joke took the fanfic WAAAY too seriously. And now the SCP Foundation - I mean.... the Abrahamic religion, has to try and fit together all these contradictory plots and statements.
@@paganalesociety It kind of makes me want to write a story about how an entire civilization was held back for thousands of years with all these backwards morals because of their religion. Then, you somehow go back in time to speak to the original creator and he was just some loser who was mad at his wife for cheating on him with his chad of a brother or some nonsense like that. lol. So in typical loser fashion, he writes some fanfic about him being this ultra powerful deity who shows everyone who is boss. 😭😤
As a former believer this question hits me all the time. "Did god even consider my prayers or did he prefer to hear me begging and mueling for them like a mad man?" I will occasionally ask myself. All of the horror god inflicts on people and brags about was only fuel to leave the faith permanently. Thank you for yet another well thought out video brandon. I don't really want to touch the bible anymore but I'm glad you touch on things all of my former pasters would just gloss over or go "and god punished 42 children by... euh! Lets find something prttier." 😂
I remember the thing said that we should pray without ceasing and not give up like the gentile woman who kept bugging the king till he finally gave in to her request just so she’d stop bugging him. YET, we are supposed to be good stewards of our time, be redeeming the time, do dozens of other possible commands, all at the same time. It basically opens the door to relativism, because you have to pick and choose, and you can’t worry about if you’re doing this process right choosing the right things to do, because that also would be sin, and we’re also commanded to go according to our conscience. Shit, I guess it’s like Depeche Mode said, it’s “your own, personal, Jesus.” One of the biggest stumbling blocks for me is contradictory commands and expectations.
You, my 'friend', are a true gift. Concise, articulate, empathetic, knowledgable. Your tone is impeccable. I am becoming a huge fan. (I see an honorary doctorate degree in your future.😉) You do great work. Your pursuits have worthy results. 👍
While reading the Catholic Bible, I had so many questions & concerns. Made an appointment with the priest, and he is a good soul. He said to me a fable. Imagine that you are in a cave and all you did your whole life is to be looking at the wall. No matter what is behind or all the noise, the wall is all you see. One day there is no noise, no people & you turn around and see a small light. You are scare, but you go after the light. The light becomes bigger until you pass the entrance and you discover a whole new world. That is what these videos have done for me... they have opened my eyes to a whole new world 🌎
Brandon, If I missed where you mentioned this, I am sorry. One of the first things that truly disgusted me about the Bible was when Pharaoh was ready to let Moses and the Israelites go and God hardened his heart in order to show off more hideous punishments he inflicted on the Egyptians. God took away Pharaoh's free will in order to keep punishing all those people ruled by the Pharaoh. He killed their firstborn children for the supposed sins of a ruler.
“You have no business claiming this God is good” Well stated Brandon. You’re exactly right. Not only do they say this God is good, they say he is good ALL the time! You have proven them to be so wrong in this video. Great job! 🎉🎉🎉
I suspect people repeat over and over that God is good/kind/loving to remind God of this. They praise in prayer the way you placate someone more powerful. "You are good, you merciful, you forgive" - there aren't descriptive but rather prescriptive
If God's glory demands such destruction, judgement and horror, then who tf needs it? If humanity indeed needs a savior, we need one that can really help us within the state of our humanness, not to constantly judge and test us. There's no such supernatural being, so we must be the saviors of ourselves, families and of our fellow humans and ecosystem
@@aheartonfire7191yea me neither because discipline has an end whereas hell is eternal. So I guess you could say that God created a place for life sentences after he's passed judgment upon them. And you can't really discipline your children when you've separated yourself from them, hell being eternal separation from God, so it's like he drops us nonbelievers off for eternal torment then hangs out with his good kids as they chant "holy holy holy" for all of eternity

@@christophergibson7155 It's 100% accurate. In fact, calling god an abusive husband is not going nearly far enough. If one takes the bible seriously, he's a sadistic, narcissistic psychopath. We're very fortunate it's mythology.

I remember when I brought up any problematic verses on the reprehensible character on God, when I was a Christian. They responded me with another verse that talked about God in a good light. But I was like, that didn't answer my question.
I can’t believe that all this time, I was seeing what a soul scammer the god of the Bible really is. Well guess what, god, we’re against your evil temperament so it goes both ways. What does this god even know about morality or equality? That’s a mockery of real justice.
Interesting how Revelation’s use of the “mark of the beast”, where the marked are doomed, seems an intentional inversion of Ezekiel 9:5-6 where the people who are marked by the “man with the writing case” are spared. I keep bumping into new stuff following Mindshift. Thx again.
Yo yo Brandon so proud to be in your TH-cam channel family, I was listening to your interview with Harmonic Aethist that was another bang for my money. More reasons I left this cult 🎉
I am being punished because two people whom I never met, Adam and Eve, were deceived by a serpent that God himself created, and then left them in The Garden alone with? They had no knowledge of good because they had not eat from the tree yet so they had no way to obey God's command. This makes no sense!
The words "Man-Made" keep coming back to me. I have seen many of your Videos now, and that is the strongest impression they have made on me. It really is just Man Made. Good call!
Love your observation about "snapping his fingers" and people who needed to be dealt with would simply vanish. You would think an all powerful god could have tried that approach when he didn't like how humanity was behaving pre-flood. Snap his all powerful fingers....creation gets reset. Nope. Instead god goes "Let's drown everybody. That's a wonderful way to die." Even the little babies who haven't been able to do anything....fill their lungs with water as their little minds fail to even understand what is happening as they die.
I don't see it in terms of fair or unfair. It makes no logical sense for an eternal, omniscient entity to create things it then get's mad at and/or takes pleasure in punishing. Free will doesn't resolve it. `I will create a being with free will, whom I know in advance of creating it, will defy me and piss me off!" That's not rational, unless it just really wants to be pissed off. That character in the bible sounds more like a bigoted human than a god.

Wonderful video about God delighting in his anger and wrath. This what makes it so hard to read the prophets; it’s the graphic detailed metaphors of anger. God needs to release his anger because it drives him insane.
Even when Job finally gets an answer for all his suffering God doesn't sympathize with Job (who was a man without sin) but instead makes Job feel insignificant 😭
When I was a child and misbehaved and my mom would punish me, she cried harder than I did. And it was always to teach me what I did wrong, she would explain to me why I get punished and ask if I understand what I did wrong.
Another great episode Brandon. Thank you. For the Christians who might read this, I honestly and truly believe people are typically good, christian or not, atheist or not, religious or not. I also believe one of the most infuriating thing we experience as humans is 'gas-lighting' from what seems colloquially obvious events. When Brandon points out verse after verse after verse of these absolutely HORRIBLE things God says and does and then a Christian claims God is All Good, I truly hope you can see how that is Gas-lighting the rest of us. The Evi is so very very obvious in these verses. I honestly do not know how the Christians listening do not at least, at the very least, acknowledge this. If these verses are not evil, please, help me understand...edcuate me. I'm willing to learn. But you have to do so without 'Gas-Lighting' me.
Could not agree more, Jeff. I am either told god can do what he wants, ok then we agree he is evil. Or i am told god is live, which is ridiculous after what has been pointed out, or i am told that im taking it too literally or out of context, but never do these explain how. Thanks!
@rboland2173 i’m doing this from memory so I might miss it a little bit but I’m pretty close. The term came from some old movie where a husband would turn a light on knowing his wife had already turned it off and then the next day lied to her and never admit, he turned it back on, so she was always confused so the term gaslighting in the colloquial sense is used when someone absolutely knows the truth because something is right in front of them pretend or basically lie and say the opposite
I attended a christian church for the first 29 years of my life, was especially devout during the latter 18 years of that period, and then de-converted in 1982. One of the things I am most angry about was that the verses in the Bible describing god doing the bad things were never the basis of a Sunday school lesson or sermon, and were almost never assigned for us to even read. On the rare occasions in which they were used, it was only in passing and in conjunction with a broader range of verses about an overarching story that was the subject of the lesson so that the bad stuff could not be avoided, but it was glossed over. And I don't remember any verse that describes the horrendous and sadistic mindset of god ever being assigned or read in church. I don't understand how the Sunday School teachers and preachers could repeatedly claim the Bible is the perfect word of god, and, yet, in unison, conspire to guide us around and away from those verses, which constitute about 80% of the Bible. When christians do talk about god doing the bad things, they pass it off with the explanation that he "had to do it", or he "had to let it happen"; as if it is beyond the power of this omniscient being to do anything about it. John 3:16, the most quoted Bible verse among christians, is reflective of this.
Then you must have never understood the righteous judgments of The Lord. "The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether." (Psalm 19:9) "The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever." (Psalm 119:160)
My father let me read the bible when I was 10. Then encouraged me to join bible studies. (All denominations) I observed that they skip the horrible passages and repeat the good ones. That's how they deceive people. Had I not read the whole bible I would have believed them. I thought my father wanted me to be a christian. He only wanted me to find the answers myself.
But that very verse about "the entirety of your word is truth" completely implies that all of the verses of him enjoying the suffering of others are 100% true as well. Means that he perfectly endorses the idea of slavery and stoning others to death over the smallest things. How is that in any way righteous?@@christophergibson7155
Thank you Brandon. Your logical chain of thought is outstanding. Do you know why these scribes depicted God that vencheful and pointed out this amount of delight in his inflicted pains. Is it to show Gods power (our God is stronger), to excuse Israels own cruelties and viciousness? To compensate for ones own powerlessness? What do scholars say? Keep going! Andy🎉😊
Here's a thought experiment to run by believers: Take the Biblical stories (don't worry, most of them haven't actually read it, so they don't know their own religions' stories anyway!), change the names so that it appears to be a modern Fantasy novel...and ask them who the bad guy is. When they naturally say that monstrous character who abused his power over all the innocent humans, reveal the original identities of the characters to them...

I always wondered….He knew his enemies before he created them then created them and started killing them but knew all along that they would be his enemies before he created them and knew that he would kill them anyways . Then why create them ? . Do you see how stupid this concept is ? How do Christians not see this as a problem?
This whole thing has caused me so much trauma and caused me so much self hatred. I literally hate myself for existing and almost wanna apologize to him for creating me but that’s not my fault.
The thing that really gets me is, there were probably millions of people in the biblical days. However, God said that only 8 people were worthy to be saved, and they just happened to be, all from the same family. SMGDH!
" For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." But then again who were all those peoples systematically wiped out in the Old Testament?
Seems they should have been doing exorcisms not killing each other. And how can they be held accountable if they were all demon possessed, such that the underlying reality was that they weren’t fight people, but demons under the surface?
Who were they ? The were biblical NPCs. They weren't the special people the main tribe Judeans so they just don't matter. Now let's get back to our loving God's story. 😳
The very idea that the creator of the entire universe, who has to keep the whole thing running from moment to moment, would feel the need to constantly beat one particular species of mammal in one quintillion quintillion quintillionth of his universe into submission, just to force them to worship him...proves that the whole thing is a load of nonsense (to put it kindly). Even more ridiculous than his obsession with that one species of mammals' sexual behavior.
Ezekiel 14:9 is a telling verse. When a prophet says lies in my name it is I Yahweh who has whispered those lies into their ears. So not only does Yahweh turn you over to your iniquities he also helps to cement them by playing along with your mistakes and helping those along ...
Everyone knows that a perfect father must sometimes rebuke his child. A complete absence of this, after all, leads to all manner of problems, and is very likely to produce a rotten child. So what is a good parent to do? Clearly there must be rules for his young daughter to follow. And he can't be a pushover about it, or she'll learn to walk all over him, and he may as well have no rules at all. So our Good Father makes his stance clear from the outset: "If you reject my rules and fail to carry out all my commands, then I will do this to you: I will take vengeance in anger and wrath upon the daughter who has not obeyed me." Excellent, order has been established, and she knows what she must do. And yet, one day, one of his rules does indeed get broken. So what, now, is a good father to do? This unfaithful child of his must be punished for her wrongdoing, his righteousness, his very being demands it. "I will rebuke her in my anger and terrify her with my wrath." "Then she will know that I am her father, when I lay my vengeance upon her." And so he goes into her room to carry our his righteous judgement. She watches from a corner of the room, unmoving, unspeaking, as his justice is made known to her. "I destroyed your collection of dolls with a hammer. I filled your nostrils with the stench of shattered cosmetics bottles. Yet you have not apologized to me," declares her father. She hurries to rectify her mistake, apologizing for her egregious rulebreaking, swearing to obey in the future, and assuring him of his fairness in the face of her disobedience. "You are a compassionate and gracious father, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness." Thusly appeased, he forgives her offense, and life continues on as normal. Truly, a father worthy of our praise, our love, and our devotion. If you think this analogy unfair, let me assure you: It IS unfair. Every act taken by this fictional father is a TAMER version of the equivalent action from God. He did not destroy her, he did not hurt her or her friends, he didn't even have to kill the family pet to forgive her transgression. This despicable human being is simply a nicer version of the God of the Bible, with power over far fewer people. But wait, what crime did the daughter commit? What rule did she break? Take your pick. Make it the most egregious crime you could possibly imagine. Maybe SHE killed the family pet. Does anything you can put in that slot, anything at ALL, make this the morally correct response? Is this ever, under any circumstances, the BEST possible way for her dad to behave? Don't even pretend you believe the answer is yes. If you wouldn't grant it for a flawed human, what could possibly possess you to grant it to a flawless God? When you describe the righteousness and judgement of God on those who disobey or disbelieve or even hate him, this is what you're saying. You're saying that not only is this extreme behavior justified, it would be _wrong_ of God to do anything LESS than this. Whether you realize it or not, admit it or not, no twisting or contorting the text of scripture will let you escape this fundamental truth. This IS what your holy book says. The Word of God, written for all to see.
To be honest, if she killed my pet, I probably would react like that. But it seems like this would be Gods reaction if she simply stole a cookie from the cookie jar or listened to a dirty song or watched a dirty movie which she's only doing mostly out of curiosity and not doing it out of evilness.
@@briannamorrison380 Pretty much. And yeah, it's reasonable to think that people would react like that. It's a shocking thing that caused permanent damage. Any human could be expected to react really poorly to it, even forgiven for responding in such a way. Because we understand their emotions got the better of them, and they acted in anger and quite possibly confusion. But saying that that's the most morally good response possible is a whole 'nother thing entirely, and THAT is what they're saying when they excuse God's behavior in all these horrific verses. It just seems like people do everything in their power to give God every advantage and every excuse. They'll rob God of his omniscience just long enough to say he couldn't have seen it coming. They'll rob his omnipotence by saying he couldn't have interfered to prevent it, or fixed the damage after the fact with less than a blink of his eye. They'll rob his benevolence long enough to say that it's perfectly fine to get angry when someone does something wrong, forgetting that there's a HUGE difference between chastising and torturing, and never even understanding in the first place that karma is not the goal of punishment. I'll never understand those who think inflicting pain or suffering on those who've done wrong is a _solution_ to the problem. That everything is fine and dandy as long as bad people get hurt as much as or more than they hurt others. Frankly disgusting...
Stellar analysis exposing irreconcilable contradictions from scripture. There's just no way anyone can argue that God is only love, compassion and forgiveness--not with all the passages you quoted showing his delight in vengeance and punishment. 👏👏👏

Finally whatched, good video brandon, not much for me to add other than my first comment. Much of the violence committed in the old testament and attributed to God is inexcusable, and the way you pointed it out is one of the best ways i've seen someone to do so.
I always did feel like when the bible spoke of god's wrath, it sounded like he had this uncontrollable rage that always needed a release for. I of course always pushed that feeling aside because 'god is love', but I'm glad I don't have to make excuses for it anymore.
One if the sickest things I've ever heard a theist say was when that ZZ Top beard guy was asked by Pine Creek whether he would counsel god to either painlessly poof humanity out of existence or to drown them all, and he enthusiastically chose the latter.
Another great video Brandon. I love that you are approaching these topics at such a different angle. So many videos I watch are more technical about how the Bible isn’t true because or history or archeology. Even the ones who go after the morality of god do it in a tried and true manner but your angle always seems fresh and a new way of looking at these problems no one else is really poking at. There’s plenty of videos of god created suffering or evil but I don’t see too much about how god delights in that suffering. Nice job pointing these things out.
"Just as it pleased the Lord to make you prosper and increase in number, so it will please him to ruin and destroy you. You will be uprooted from the land you are entering to possess."
Your videos are well informed and well rounded. Would you consider doing a series on the theology of The Good Place and how it relates to the biblical stories? That show did a phenomenal job of showing YWHW as either the bad guy or at least incompetent. It just gets better with each season.
I went to Church today and the preachers were talking about the plan of God. It seems like they are really convinced that they can have both things. Have free will and God's plan being perfect. Blame the diseases and wars on freewill and give God the glory for a new car. I had a conversation with someone pointing this out and they could not understand me. They are fully convinced that God has nothing to do with evil and he has a divine plan. Also, we have free will. This just does not add up.
This makes me realize that Gnosticism sounds far more reasonable than the canonical version of Christianity that we’re stuck with. If you really take the time to read and study the gnostic texts, they reveal that Christians as we’re being bullied by worship a false god that claims to be god. It’s really fascinating stuff, tbh.
I'm taking an Early Childhood Education class, and this week, we're learning about guidance, how to guide children toward correct/good behavior as opposed to punishing them for incorrect/bad behavior. The sheer contrast between the patient guidance of a good childcare provider and the destructive, wrathful, "justice" of God is astonishing.
Advice of the commander of the "Albigensian Crusade," to his troops, when they asked about determining who were the heretics, and who were the faithful: "Kill them all, God will recognize his own." Good to see that the Medieval Church was faithful to the policy of the "God of the Bible"!
Eyy, you fixed the f stop issue. And you changed the camera framing so that the painting isn't trailing out of frame. Looking good. Now just move the 'camera left' side of the desk forward a bit so its edge is aligned with the bottom frame of the camera view instead of the side wall that we can't see anyway (or double down on the angle and move the camera even further to the left). Then everything will be perfect.
Admittedly, Hillaire Belloc was on regard as saying that part of the attraction of heaven is that the redeemed get to spend at least some of their time throwing rocks at the damned... He may be right, but the idea is vaguely nausea-inducing...
A few days ago I "asked" for a verse to make sure I'm not on the wrong path by throwing away 35 years of religion. Ezekiel 5:2 was my "answer". I read it and was like whoa how grotesque. To be fair I read verse 1 and realized it was only about hair which, weird, wtf!? Then I read the whole chapter and the hair thing is parodied later to god's "chosen" people. Right after that bit about parents eating children and children eating parents. I was reading this before I started watching this video. Great job as always.
Honestly, god taking pleasure in our suffering is the only rational explanation (to me) of why god would appear to mess up so much and use hell as "just" punishment. Putting the tree of knowledge in the garden and letting the serpent decieve Eve, punishing future generations for their ancestors' sins, senselessly torturing people, letting people be easily deceived by demons, and punishing nonbelievers with an eternity in hell, all while claiming to know everything and have the power he could've used to make a better world? All of this would make more sense if god was simply a sadist who wants to mess with us and then torture us. And these verses in the video should be enough to confirm it.

He does indeed. It only gets more obvious

Yes! Pretty darn telling
This right here! 😮

And weirder still that there could even exist humans by whom God is so threatened that he must regard them as enemies, and against whom He must actively, sometimes preemptively, carry out His divine rampage

Yet not one word is mentioned about the sinfulness of humanity. It is ok with the professing atheist to say that God is an evil tyrant, but it's ok to says that people are as sweet as apple pie. What hypocrisy! No matter how they want to twist the Word of God to make God look the bad guy, it will only come back to them in the mirror of the Word of God indeed how wicked and evil are their own deeds.
And not even then
@@MindShift-Brandon , absolutely right.
Those were villages and towns of PEOPLE, just like you, going about their daily lives, following their careers, getting married, raising their children, sharing hobbies with friends after work...until one day, a Horde of raiders came over the hill, killing without mercy, burning down everything, even killing the animals that are normally taken for wealth, for no reason or motive other than the relentless cry of "Milk and Honey!!"
Really putting people in their shoes helps give a different perspective...

@davidhoffman6980 so what you are saying is not only is the god limited to the mindset of warfare to accomplish his goals, but it didnt even work…

The secret to this ambiguous confusion of Gods' character is to have many books saying different things at different moments
Brandon,
If I missed where you mentioned this, I am sorry.
Its a great point. I have just covered it so much that i went with other examples lol
If you look closely, Pharah didn’t want to repent all along and he wasn’t genuine in his actions, he actualy lied about letting them go.

I don't see it in terms of fair or unfair. It makes no logical sense for an eternal, omniscient entity to create things it then get's mad at and/or takes pleasure in punishing. Free will doesn't resolve it. `I will create a being with free will, whom I know in advance of creating it, will defy me and piss me off!" For the Christians who might read this, I honestly and truly believe people are typically good, christian or not, atheist or not, religious or not.

So our Good Father makes his stance clear from the outset:
"If you reject my rules and fail to carry out all my commands, then I will do this to you: I will take vengeance in anger and wrath upon the daughter who has not obeyed me."
Excellent, order has been established, and she knows what she must do.
And yet, one day, one of his rules does indeed get broken. So what, now, is a good father to do?
This unfaithful child of his must be punished for her wrongdoing, his righteousness, his very being demands it.
"I will rebuke her in my anger and terrify her with my wrath."
"Then she will know that I am her father, when I lay my vengeance upon her."
And so he goes into her room to carry our his righteous judgement.
"You are a compassionate and gracious father, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness."
Thusly appeased, he forgives her offense, and life continues on as normal.

So many videos I watch are more technical about how the Bible isn’t true because or history or archeology. Now just move the 'camera left' side of the desk forward a bit so its edge is aligned with the bottom frame of the camera view instead of the side wall that we can't see anyway (or double down on the angle and move the camera even further to the left). Then everything will be perfect.
Yes sir! Thanks so much for that help!
Admittedly, Hillaire Belloc was on regard as saying that part of the attraction of heaven is that the redeemed get to spend at least some of their time throwing rocks at the damned... He may be right, but the idea is vaguely nausea-inducing...
When I think of gawd i think of darkmatter2525 animation characters...Gawd and Jeffrey ....I luv❤ Jeffrey more, Gawd is a freaking pyscho😅😅😅
If you haven't already, you should give NonStampCollector's channel a try (esp, "What Would Jesus NOT Do?" and "Bible Quiz Show")!
@@HandofOmegahe's so good!!
The image for this video is incredible!!!
Thank you! love ai art for this reason. Sometimes its a miss, but this one really came together.
How should humanity punish god for how he misteated us tho?
@@fredaaneso And forget he ever happened.
A man dies when he is forgotten.
But a worse fate than being forgotten is to be remembered forever for all the worst reasons imaginable.
The video's thumbnail is brilliant. It is my favourite so far HAHAHSHAH And it also fits so well the content of the video!
Lol thanks! I really liked it too
Just a quick question?
Why was death included in the Creation equation?
The omnipotent god didn't want to create other "perfect" beings?
Other "gods"??
Hmmm...
❤ Ya Brandon, another awesome video.
