A great side-by-side comparison shave with all the attention to detail and thoughtfulness we have come to expect and appreciate from you, Mark. The soap scent sound nice, but I am having trouble picturing drift wood in my mind's nostrils. You and your mum take good care and have a great weekend.
Thank you, Lee. I have never smelled a piece of driftwood, but washed by the sea and baked by the sun, I imagine it might not smell of much at all. We are enjoying an easy Saturday. I hope you are too. Cheers buddy.
The scent in the soap sounds pleasant ie. lemon , rose and green fig. Especially lemon which you would think would be refreshing. The more aggressive razor as expected a bit more effective.
Hi Mark, I've saw these Razors with KenSurfs.. great comparison Shave!! Really enjoy your videos! 😊 Have a great weekend! Blessings from Northern Ireland!
Hi Mark It’s been a while since I last commented, as I was asked to come out of retirement by my previous employer. The soap certainly gave a beautiful lather!! I hope your Mum is keeping well too. Jim NI
Hello, Jim. Well, it must feel very nice to be in demand. I hope they are paying you well for the privilege of disturbing your zen 😃 We are okay, thank you. Look after yourself, fella.👍
Great comparison shave. Ive been wanting the twig for a while now. Ive not seen one bad review on it. Oh, and Falling Skys, great show. I hope you and your mother have a great wknd my friend 👍
Thank you, Andrew. It is a very nice easy shave. I am really enjoying Falling Sky; the writers are brilliant! I hope you have a great weekend, buddy. Cheers.
Nice comparison and video Mark, looks like an SE would be a nice addition to my travel kit as a slightly more speedy early morning shave than a straight. Definite food for thought. Have a great long weekend!
I do like an SE razor, as you may know but I can't really fully explain why they appeal to me so much. I do like being able to use a half blade in the Twig/Thorn. It's a very well thought out razor. Cheers.
Great shave as usual Mark - and a really interesting one. Barrister and Mann come up with some great, unusual scents - I have one called "Paganini's Violin". I've been interested in trying a Twig and/or Thorn. I don't flip my DE razors over to use the other edge - just my funny habit - I stay on the same edge for the whole shave and then next shave I use the fresh edge 🤣 so using a half blade setup would work great with my routine.
Hi Blaine. I tried using just one side of my safety razor, but I could never remember which side I had just used! I'm not kidding, I had to give up with that method 😃 I do like a single edge razor, I must admit. The Ever Ready's are still my favourites.
Nice shave Mark! I really like my Twig, great shaver. If i knew there was a Thorn when i bought my Twig, I would've got the Thorn. But i dont think theres a big difference between them. Next time you shave with either, try holding it by the bottom jibs/textured part that you twist to open it up. It seems to make the best shave angle for the razor. Its not where I would naturally hold any razor but it works for my Twig, or its all in my head 😆👍 Have a good one! Steve
Hi Steve. I think the Thorn was bought out sometime after the Twig, but I don't think there is really very much difference between them, just enough perhaps. That's an interesting idea holding the Twig at the very bottom almost. I'll try it, but I bet it feels a bit odd. Cheers, mate.
Hello Mark. It occurs to me that I must really enjoy a mild shave because the regular Twig is plenty for me. I may try a Thorn someday just because I enjoy the Twig that much. Who knows? Perhaps I will prefer it but I find the efficiency of the regular Twig to be perfect. Truth be told, I have found every half DE blade razor I have tried to be aggressive. There is something about the thinness that makes the blades that little bit extra sharp for me. I find that I have to be extra careful not to nick myself or cause irritation. Thanks for the video. Have a great week!
Hi Eric. The regular Twig, is certainly a very razor - certainly I like it as I don't particularly feel the need to be bbs; certainly before I started watching other people's videos, I had not heard the term. I like the Twig because you can use half of your favourite blade. It just seems a great idea to be able to do that rather than buy a 'special' blade. Cheers Eric. Have a great week, too. All the best.
Thanks for the comparison Mark. I've always considered the Twig a mild razor but also efficient and definitely my favourite SE razor currently. Personally I wouldn't want it anymore aggressive.👍🤠
Great comparison shave. I don't believe I'd seen one previously. I own the Twig and use it a lot, but mostly for touch-ups because it is so maneuverable. It's one of the few razors that I always keep out on an open shelf. I'm left-handed but still am unused to the twist direction. (There must be a story there.) On side pursuits, my current nod to the "special relationship" is to read John Le Carré. I finish one book and can't wait to open the next. He's from your general neck of the woods, so maybe you've served as his warm-up act. Enjoy the weekend, Mark.
Thank you, Warren. I imagine the Twig would be a great razor for touch ups, it is manoeuvrable and I do like the low profile head. I found Le Carre's, I haven't worked out how to accent the letter 'e' on my keyboard, books a little heavy in detail. For example, he could write half a page about the kettle boiling! Great stories though. I love a spy novel. All the best, Warren.
I know what you mean about the kettle scenes. I've found myself fast-forwarding through parts of his tomes. His earlier books were shorter and less indulgent, and I've been drawn to them for that reason. But I think part of his point was that spying is an adventure but also a slog. Not unlike shaving. On the foreign letters: I cut and paste the "é" from elsewhere on the internet.
As usual, a thoughtful comparison. I have both razors and didn't use the twig very often because it wouldn't cut through 3 to 5 days of thick course beard growth. I recently bought the Thorn, and it just glides through 2 days worth of growth. (I happen to be shaving more frequently lately) I have found the Thorn to be a very good daily shave (which I don't do frequently because of sensitive skin) Its efficient enough to get my tough hair, but mild enough so my skin isn't feeling a bit sensitive. Now I'll have to take my Twig back from my friend and try them side by side. 😂Cheers and have a lovely day! Looking forward to your next shave.
Thank you for sharing your experience, which is a brilliant addition to my shave and shows how effective the Thorn is, while remaining mild and comfortable. Excellent. I hope you are having a great weekend.👍
indeed i find the thorn a mild shave but a very comfortable shave but still affective. wow there must be half a pig in that brush what a loft on it 😂😂😂 very nice indeed mate
Hi Mark, and I’m very well, thank you. The Gold Razor (Twig(?) standing upright with us getting a side profile, reminds me of a Praying Mantis. Very nice looking razor. The closest thing I ever had was my old Schick Injector razor. Shaved good be didn’t like being forced to use their proprietary blades. Back then (Late 1970s), all the local pharmacies and supermarkets only carry Schick injector blades. Now day if you have that razor you have a few other options online for blades. I always preferred my 1966 Gillette Slim, until I got my Grandfather’s 1960 Gillette Fatboy, and later my Father’s 1963 Slim (bought at RAF Fairford’s Commissary). Hey, you may like knowing, while shaving over the last few weeks, when I have to add a little my water to my Shave Brush, I find myself mimicking you… “Just a drop more water”, with a British accent and all… 🇬🇧 Take care my friend and have a marvelous day Mark.
Hi George. Actually, I think the Twig shaves like the 70's Schick Injector; I'm sure, in a side by side shave, they would be a very close result. That, my friend, is a video for the future! Thank you for the inspiration. Just a drop more water - you are losing the plot, and it's no bad thing 😄 Have a lovely weekend, buddy.
@@FriendshipShaving My Saturday was marvelous. Just got a few new Trail Cameras to cover another research project, and just ordered more of those Treet Platinum DE razor blades. I was on Amazon and fond the at $11.99 for a 200 count, so I jumped on it so I’ll be well stocked up on them. I also found Taylor of Old Bond Street Shaving Cream Bowl (Grapefruit)… which sounds marvelous from what I reading. Ever try this? Says “Shaving Cream Bowl”, and I’m wondering if it’s a soap or a cream like Paraso. If it’s a tub of cream, then I suppose you just take a bit and place it in a lathering bowl as I do with Paraso’s Shave Cream in a tube. I have Proraso Sandalwood (Red) & Sensitive Skin (White) Shaving Cream in the tubes. And I ended up with 3 tubs of the Sensitive Skin Soap in the tub. Amazon error… I called them and wanted to return the two extra tubs they sent, but they told me to keep them. When I use the Shaving Soap from Proraso, I scoop a bit out and place it in one of my lathering bowls rather lathering it while in its little tub. Right! Let me know if you have used the Grapefruit Taylor of Old Bond Street Shaving Cream Bowl. I love citrus scents. Also warm & spicy, woodsy scents… sandalwood, bay rum, amber, etc. Have a marvelous Sunday Mark.
Great Shave Mark, and comparison, how do you get on with the Supply Injector Razor, I have the Pro with the three plates and I'm using the mild plate but it's a bugger to get used to fine on the first pass but second it bites take care and have a great weekend 😃👍
I haven't shaved with the Supply razor for ages, Mark. I bought the updated pro version, but before that I had the one with three plates; I can't remember which plate I used but I quite liked it, I don't remember having any issues. All the best, Mark.
Nice review Mark. Shame to see the open/close mechanism violates the traditional 'righty-tighty' and 'lefty-loosy' maxim. I haven't tried either but I just like my traditional DEs so these are not for me I think. Hope you are well and may I say congratulations on officially having a King Charles III now through the Coronation. Here in Canada we are well pleased to see this and hope he has a long reign.
Hi Steve, thank you for your congratulations on our New King. Did you know that the first Coronation was in 1066, in the old Westminster Abbey! That is quite some history. Happy shaves, brother.
What a really good question! I want to write that they are very similar but I started to think about the slight difference between the Twig and the Thorn. I shall maybe do a side by side shave with a Twig/89. Thanks for the idea.👍

Hi Grant. The scent was quite pleasant but there was something there, that was just putting me off, a little. I couldn't work out quite what it was.
Ok.
