A very beautiful map and area to fly in...but I am not so sure how many people actually fly it in DCS. I suspect it is like the SA map... appeals to a few, but unfortunately ignored by many. I know a number of people in my online squadron that have removed both to save hard drive space. While I appreciate all the hard work Orbx has put into this project, from a DCS player point of view, and admittedly a biased one, that effort put into a Korea or Vietnam map would have been far better. I suspect the Afghanistan map will suffer the same small user base once the novelty wears off. I think putting effort into areas where there is historical background, given the aircraft we have in the sim, is a better option.
That is very understandable. Currently I am having a hard time even figuring out what could be a mission to fly on this map. And I did uninstall this map when I was testing Afghanistan because of disk space. I hope I will get some great ideas and be able to bring some life into the map. Vietnam and Korea is definitely long awaited and will become iconic when they release.
Certainly the map doesn’t have a war feeling, and most of it is bland and feels unfinished. But God some parts of it are simple gorgeous to fly, I use it to relax and enjoy some amazing vistas, it’s good to have a change from the sandy maps. I think the map has a lot of potential.
Finding vehicles and manpads hidden in the thick vegetated areas are pretty fun and challenging for me. The map really is unfinished and more is required to make it complete. The upside is that the temperature gradient is usually high and the TGP will pick up targets easier with the IR sensor compared to an already hot sandy grounds.
I love Kola but can’t ever use it. No campaigns, no liberation campaigns and very few MP servers use it. So unless I want to play a few user missions or make my own, I’m out of luck.
I think it will take some time for the Kola community to grow. It is quite a bit different from the current maps we have and it also is much larger. It takes much longer to even fly between air bases
Yeah…just sucks because it’s a cool map that is different from the standard Syria/PG maps and much better looking than Cauc. So its sits on my hard drive taking up space. Hoping those two campaigns I heard about for KOLA come out soon. I had thought they were going to be released with the map. Of course, at this point it’s been almost 2 months since we’ve had a significant DCS update so who knows
I really wonder why Orbx is neglecting updating Norway in any way. There are a LOT of cities and airstrips missing from Norway. Andoya comes to mind, among others
My guess is that at first they are focusing on Finland and Russia because it is where most of the combat is going to happen. They will update Norway eventually
@@dcs_one It creates a logistical nightmare for anybody trying to build a campaign. If BLUEFOR only ocean supply point is Bodo, that causes MAJOR problems. Also limits REDFOR lines of attack. But yes, I assume that eventually Norway will have more than one town and airstrip too 😉

Yeah, I enjoy just flying on it too, too much sand in my flight boots

Kola map is a wonderful map with massive areas and a lot of cold war history
It really is!

FYI, Jokkmokk is pronounced like if you combine the the pronunciation for a sports "jock" and a "mock"-up. So Jockmock. Thank for the content

Still no Norway update, no purchase from me. Remind me when ORBx has fixed the basic shit
Will do!
@Exigo404 they've added several things to Norway. Much is still missing but that can be said for the entire map.
