  • Every Viking needs his own custom cup. And what better way to tie the two worlds of my Viking Link mashup than this epic Viking Drinking horn carved from a real buffalo horn and gilded. For this build I used: 12 inch buffalo horn, leather, gold leaf, sculpey, super glue, and some Plaid FX acrylic paints. You may also need the following tools: heat gun, a Dremel with various bits, and Exacto knife or box cutter. Let me know in the comments below if you would like to see more like this one, from shows, video games, or whatever. Please smack that like button, dropkick subscribe, and share with as many people as possible.

    You did a wondrously well mash up of the classic horn with your intended aesthetic. The Beer of Root and Ale of Ginger will froth till the end of times.

    Sculpey makes an air-dry clay that is wonderful to work with. You just break off a piece of the "brick," knead it a little bit, then start sculpting. Keep a little cup of water nearby and dip your fingers in it from time to time - as it starts to dry it gets kind of...chalky. And keeping it damp will give you more working time. Just don't get it too wet or it gets slimy. You can feather out the edges, add texture with all kinds of things and sand, drill and paint it when it's fully dry. It starts to set up after about 10 minutes, and will be hard in a half-hour, fully cured in 24 hours.

      I've got probably 10 different kinds of clay in my workspace, all with various pros and cons. I think I've tried the air dry sculpey before. In the right hands with the right skills, you can create pretty epic stuff with all of them.

    I started leatherworking a few months ago.
    It's pretty fun and goes great with listening to a podcast or audiobook.

      I've done very little leather work, but I do love the smell and feel of it.

    That was epic, Thomas! Learning new skills is kinda what cosplay is all about, right? Although all of those at one go was a bit over the top. But then, you are an over the top kind of guy. You rock!

    Next time you dye the leather. Wet it with water first and use some circular motions. Also let everything dry completely and buff it before putting on your top coat. :) The leather doesn't have to be saturated, just dampened a bit. :) You got excellent results with how you did it, but this will make the coloring a bit more even and make things easier actually. But very good work my friend.

    I did leather dye on a cosplay I made a few years back. I did it the exact same way, except I used something different to seal it, something I found at Tandy. It was fun and I want to do more leather work! This was so good!

    • @MuchProps
      @MuchProps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did a good chunk of it on my birthday. Pretty much from the gold leafing on was done on that day. Nothing else I would rather be doing.

  • @SuperVoodude
    @SuperVoodude 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sure it can be used for potions, but can you still catch fairies with it? 🧚
    The Molgera detail is fantastic! Makes me imagine using a Gohma claw as a drinking horn as well.

    Awesome little build. Going to be one of those small details that adds tons to the cosplay. We call glitter "Devils Dandruff" (can't take credit for that name though)

    • @MuchProps
      @MuchProps  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I realize these builds for this cosplay have been coming slow but it also give me time to come up with cool little details to add here and there that I probably would not have thought of had I rushed through.

    • @MuchProps
      @MuchProps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL. Them longhorn horns can get pretty big, anywhere from 4 to 9 feet. I couldn't wear that big a horn on a belt. 😄

    • @MuchProps
      @MuchProps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are lots of different methods. I did a combination of a lot of things. I did boiling water, peroxide, vinegar, soap and water. I don't think you can be too thorough cleaning them out. You can definitely smell the difference.
