Hello Nige,... the Trap is called a Gin Trap, what you do is squeeze the two flat Bars together which opens the Jaws which then lay flat held in position by the centre plate which would hold a small amount of Bait and anything landing on that Plate would release the Jaws, like a Bear Trap, a bloody awful thing really, banned now but you still see them hanging in an old Inglenook in a Pub or in an Antique Shop.
Nigel, the trap you had about 15:00, possibly some kind of spring trap. The metal rod with eyelets attached, looks like a guy anchor rod used for stabilising poles. Well done for plodding on through the elements, you all do a very good job, and keep us entertained also.👍
15:06 - Yep. That's a foothold trap, from its size probably for foxes or whatever small fur bearer is in the area. It SHOULD have a metal tag on the chain with the owner's name.
My grandad was a gamekeeper, the trap you got he called a gin trap it was for catching rabbits and foxes.the arch above the plate forms 2 jaws which open and fold flat, when the plate is depressed the jaws snap shut
The long rod with the two eyelets on one end can be used to steady very long telegraph poles . A very strong wire attached to the top of the pole then threaded through the eyelet and the rod was turned into the earth which pulled the wire taught and made the pole stable .
The trap with the chain attached is a rabbit trap used extensively in Australia 1850’s to1970’s Have been banished to junk shops because they catch rabbits by trapping their legs causing pain etc.
Great finds and a lot of scrap metal token out of the water . So the water is a little cleaner thanks. Your freind shirley from new Bern, north carolina u.s.a. ❤❤🎉🎉🎉😮🎉😮😅🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hi I used to work on the tracks years ago and the AS on the top of the screw means above standard coach screw , mainly used in a new track sleeper , keep up your great videos I’ve watched everyone you have made and they are amazing 👍
Wanted to thank all of you for getting trash out of the waters across the United Kingdom. God bless.. and stay safe with the things you find from Wars many decades ago.
Not a bad day out , that Man United lighter was a good one , also that leg hold trap even though it was in bad shape and are now outlawed here in Canada . Till next time . Stuart across the pond ..
Hiya the trap is a mole trap ,no bait needed find a mole run put trap in run set it and cover it up ,moles use there runs every 3 to 6 hours to find worms grubs .a mole catcher 😊
Nigel, something interesting.. says 16 views, yet over a hundred thumbs up? What gives with TH-cam???? I believe you are getting the royal screw from TH-cam.

Nigel definitely not bridle wear, more likely used to tether a small animal trap to the ground so your dinner didn't run off once it was caught
thank you

Nigel, what’s with the constant heavy breathing now on your videos. It does my head in. Have to stop watching your vids. Maybe get a health check.
it's hard work pulling heavy bits out. makes you out of breath
@@Northantsmagnetfishing you never used to do it, and neither do the other magnet fishermen.
