Seb, you know perfectly well what the problem is, and it's always been the same problem! People never have 5 euros to donate, but they have 80 euros for a gram of coke, and these are facts that we still observe, and that I observed again in 2015 during my very last party.11:00
I was at Castle morton when you lot played , fooking awesome it was . I woke up in a field with thousands of people dancing around me , I didn't even have to walk to the dance floor lmao .
Went to Exodus parties back in the early 90s and they often had expected donations in the early days. Was more than happy with that approach and trusted them to create a safe environment and a great party!
@TheBaronVonBoom I remember my 1st Exodus party, was a xmas eve on on the industrial estate, I remember this big dude throwing two guys out n sayin 'That's what you get for smokin crack!' & someone else on the door following up with 'yea you're down with the babylon!' We'd spent all our money on getting there there from Oxford, & some on supplies, obviously, but yea they just let us in.
I used to go to sprial tribe party's back in the day, there's nothing to beat dancing in a field with the sun coming up at dawn, thanks for the memories you beautiful people xx
Yes seb good to see you havnt changed !i remember your first ever live set at bridge house 92 it sounded awsome ,never forgot the sound of the jd800 .so glad your still doing it mate.if you see this give my regards to simon and be lucky .IN THE AREA .From Huggie Persons Unknown
I feel the same about demonstrations, social movements and stuff like that. People are there for the event but the ones who get caught, they're on their own most of the time. It always comes back to individualism as in something that's kinda imposed on us. We are so used to thinking about our little bubble only and not organizing beyond that, even if it hurts us in the long run. We're left with little energy for doing otherwise.
Had the pleasure of meeting "Frank" circa 1998..didnt know anything other than he was with ST. Seemed to be in his mid 60's at the time, he was traveling the US in a school bus with a bunch of hippies throwing partys. He looooved his reefer lol and on rare occasion I would catch him on the 1's & 2's grinding out something smooth. Ahh those days seemed just like yesterday..the sounds the smells.
I like his viewpoint, an expected donation of a fiver would go a long way toward covering the costs and it still keeps it true to the spirit, and keeps it alternative. Festivals used to be alternative events and what is it now? £200-400 tickets, which immediately excludes a lot of people.
My thoughts exactly, it’s not a lot but if you can’t part with a fiver to cover all the insane effort it takes to put on an event then you shouldn’t be a part of it anyway. I have been to a Stinky Pink event in London that charged a fiver and it was excellent, no issues whatsoever and everyone had a good time, I’d have paid £10!
Congratulations for this super interview, I have a vision of life very similar to him, but thank you Sebastian for reconnecting us with the naturalness of things, wise words, good chap👌
I agree on everything! Teknival changed me, and without hanging around with people from the community, somehow I developed the same set of principles as Sebastian. It is good that one off the first crews came out with this money for free problem, I hope there will be a consens on this subject. All my respect to the people involved in free party scene! See you soon!

Awesome interview! I'm still wondering how the f did you get the jet to Europe 😂. My first experience was Hostomice 95 Czech Republic then every year until 2005. My heart will always be in tekno scene. ❤ I do agree with donations as I know people that went bankrupt because they tried to give people free party.
so the sound system should be the dealers, well thats very clever :/ And what if they DONT want to sell drugs? Than all the money goes to dealers and the ppl who actually make the party and everything, get SHIT! And thats how it is now. So take you head out of your ass pls
The thing is, some people want to provide music, not drugs. How do the providers pay for fuel, the system, food, and all the other necessities of life they need while providing the party? If there are no donations? Sell drugs? A lot have chosen that route and spent time in jail for picking that route.
I do think Castlemorton was the nail in the coffin though, it could have carried on much longer - but it was way too big. the establishment realised being heavy handed never really worked, so they let it happen and the media did the rest, with a ridiculous amount of coverage. Then with enough outrage, it led directly to the passing of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act and millions pumped into the police and draconian surveillance. i was at castlemorton and the amount of punters was off the scale - crapping wherever and dropping trash, everyone can't join the party - because they are clueless and thats what shuts it down, evertytime.
accurate. I was there also. Clearly remember, the traveler 'end' of the site (the far side, they got there first) was by far the cleanest, the only litter picked area on the site. The media sure did their part to sway public sentiment against the movement... how convenient!
