I had a Ford 909 3 door motorsport shell that was put together as a road car by BBR, i think BBR brought the last 5 909 motorsport shells Ford had?. Had it as a road car for 13 years & as good as gave it away!. Had a back injury & those Recaros killed me, glad to see the back of it!
Not many can appreciate the amount of work hours that’s needed to go into something like this, even with knowing these cars in & out like you do Paul & that’s excluding the filming & editing involved, I dread to think the cost involved to build one even if your doing it for yourself. Looking forward for the next one as it makes a change to have something decent to watch on a Sunday Morning 👍
This car is going to look awesome in its livery 😎 that Texaco car reminds me of the battle Steve Soper and Andy Rouse had at Brands hatch in 88, phenomenal racing
A decent amount of works gone into this. I remember going to 888 some time ago when they had the S2000 Vectra’s. I noticed a bead of sealant from the bottom of the rear 1/4 glass to the tailgate. When I asked what that was there for they said when they do the cage they cut the entire roof off the car and dropped a jig assembled cage in. And then reassembled the body around the cage as all the suspension etc mounted to the cage and the body was now basically for show. One thing I’ve noticed on this cove in the Sierra is there is no bars that go across the rear suspension and everything points down to the centre of the rear floor.
Really enjoying your videos Paul, your knowledge about these vehicles is unbelievable, also enjoying how you and Steve are interacting (Steve is getting more comfortable behind the camera with each passing episode) Unfortunately, I am in Australia so will miss the NEC. Love Your Work.
strangely, it looks good in those colours that cage looks like a right mare, but if it was easy, everybody would be doing it [as my foreman used to say] keep up the excellent work chaps
An incredible amount of work going into this. Steve certainly knows his way around a welder. Just a heads up on the vids, I'm finding it a bit tricky to navigate videos in the series. If you create a playlist or add links to the next and previous videos at the end it'd make for easier video finding.
Thanks for the replies , sadly we are complete novices at the youtube thing , so have no idea how to do a play list , hence why we have numbered each video , i hope that helps
Great build and top skills on the cage and bodywork. Super touring in the making. Will this be raced? As the body shut lines will look like a showroom car. Not like race car, as Paul Linfoot love to make them 💯 perfect. Labour of love
Was the body bolted to a jig when the cage was fitted? There is a risk of the body twisting when its seamwelded, and they are probably not 100% straight from the factory either.
I can assure you if done correctly they dont twist , and looking at the door gaps etc and they way the wings etc all fit you will see this shell is perfectly straight
@@paullinfoot6017 I know that there is a right way and a wrong way to do it, and i didnt think you did it the wrong way by welding one area at once, but there is still a risk that old and soft shells can get twisted when building or just the way they are from factory. That is why i asked 👍 I didnt have a jig when i sramwelded my Legacy either, but a serious track car like this Sierra is abit more critical to be 100% straight
Why is the Cage Mig welded and not Tig welded. Steve Has done a Mega Job with it, but with all that nice work and fit up I would of thought it would have been Tig welded. Also are these cars allowed to be raced in class in the UK?. In Australia to Run in the Group A series the Cars must be the Original Race cars that raced in Period. You can not build a Replica. I think You should be allowed to, because as You Guys would know most of the original cars sit in showrooms or hidden away because they are worth so much money. Anyway thank for the great videos. Cheers.
Hi, we have tig welders but these were mig welded in period so we try to replicate as period as possible , And yes we can race replicas in the UK , and because of this you will see less genuine cars race ( i wont race my genuine cars against a grid of replicas )
@@paullinfoot6017 Didn't you get te fire damaged sierra blasted? it's the only way to get rid of the weld spatter, old paint and any bits of sound deadening, and makes a fantastic key for the new paint..... but you know that..
@@kevinharker1840 There is no sound deadening etc as its a brand new shell , the weld splatter we removed with a file . so dont think it will require blasting , IMO

Wow! Really coming along now. The youtube video really doesnt give the quality and detail of work justice. Thankyou, she's a stunner already 👏
Brilliant build brilliant workmanship
Absolutely staggering about of work just in the roll cage alone. After seeing the car now painted it looks fantastic.
Absolutely amazing work, people may not realise the amount that of work that goes into these cars
Great detail nice to see such good quality recreation of a original cars
I want it.. I dread to think the value of that finished now. outstanding work

You're right about the colour scheme there Paul. Dare I say, kind of like a monochrome harlequin.

Yes Mark , There is no better livery for a Eggenberger car
Paul that Moonstone blue front bumper looks like an original salvage part?
Yes its a genuine item , the car will have a F/G item fitted when raced though
