  • Afternoon at Sennen Cove during Storm Imogen. Hard to hand-hold our little camera when it was difficult to even stand up! But exciting to be there with loads of other storm watchers. The sea really did turn pink at the end of the day.

    I've climbed that granite rock face from the sea with Royal Marine Commandos - no hard hats, in our trainers. The adrenalin rush at the end was just amazing. Of course we did it in summer, in winter an area of granite the size of a tennis court vanished in the night. The sea is powerful.

    I was in Sennen cove back in the late 70's when the Fastnet disaster took place.
    The seas were similar and the life boat launched, which I watched from the opposite side of the bay.
    The boat kept disappearing below the massive waves as it went out.
    The RNLI are very very brave blokes and I always put money into the little collection box model boats whenever I can.
    18 months later all the RNLI crew, of the Moushole life boat "The Solomon Browne" lost their lives in Penlee lifeboat disaster.
    During that disaster, when the Sennen cove life boat was launched, it could'n't get around Lands End because the sea's were so heavy.
    It was just concentrating on not it's self being sunk/capsizing.

      I remember both disasters, back then I lived in Manchester. The crews certainly are the best! I had a short wave rx and could hear all the ship/shore traffic from Land's End Radio.

      It's in far south west of the UK, 2 miles up the North coast from Land's End. Famous for surfing. Often has big waves.

      @@mgomez5606 No, though there rip tides and sometimes freak waves. You do need local knowledge and there are places which are dangerous near to me. Most beaches are usually safe, best to swim where the lifeguards (RNLI) are.

    • @brianellwood3080
      @brianellwood3080  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@suzymoroka297 It can happen anytime. We can get a storm come across the Atlantic, usually from the Gulf of Mexico, and we have big waves, Mostly though likely to be through the winter months.

    Mother Nature was 🤬! What'd y'all do to piss her off like this 😂? Failed to make a sacrifice of newborn lambs or something?
