The music was done by SEGA's Sound Team lead by Tomoya Ohtani, one of Sonic's longest standing composers and has been the head of sound direction in SEGA since the late 2000s. He even brought out the 9 string for this game, that's why the guitar sounds very low!
Fun fact, you didnt listen to actual OST version, ya listened to the game rip version. This is why the final solo of find your fame awkardly repeats itself. The songs aren't actually in one peice in game, the different sections are sequenced to phases of the boss fights they are attached too.

In Find Your Flame, Tyler Smyth (part of metalcore band Dangerkids) does the rap sections and Kellin Quinn does the rest. This came as a fun surprise for the fans, because Tyler also featured as a singer for a song from Sonic Forces (the previous mainline Sonic game before Frontiers) titled Infinite. It's possible that Infinite is already in your queue somewhere! The rapping in both Find Your Flame and Infinite have a similar structure and melody between rap and chorus, but Find Your Flame feels more empowering because it's closer aligned with Super Sonic, where Infinite (the song) is a lot more sinister because Infinite (the character, yes they have the same name) is a reality-bending villain. Having Tyler come back for a second performance, one that is almost like a counter-argument in themes between infinite and Find Your Flame, was a slick move.
Sonic has very much become a punk icon since Sonic Adventure 2. Frontiers bringing back the rock, punk, and metal aspects of his soundtracks was a homecoming for a lot of fans
In addition to going oh-so-very hard on their own, in game these songs fit the boss fights they play for perfectly. The super heavy guitars and screams fit Super Sonic beating living daylights out of giants robots like a glove. The songs are amazing and that's a large part of their popularity, but the *experance* of hearing them in game while doing some of the most badass things possible means noone who hears them in game it is ever gonna forget it, especially if they aren't expecting it.
for the longest time Catch Me If You Can from Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity has been my all-time favorite Sonic vocal theme, until Sonic Frontiers BURSTS THROUGH THE WALL and gave Break Through It All the crown of my new number one favorite. but seriously, all the vocal tracks are incredible and will definitely be remembered for years to come, just as much as the Crush 40 songs have been. since so far you've only heard the boss themes in Frontiers, I can't wait for you get to the rest of the soundtrack, especially the variety in the Cyberspace ones. there's a lot more to explore in Frontiers!
4:55 - Actually, there is a video on YT where someone had put this song over the Senator Armstrong boss battle of MGR and it fits perfectly. The shouts of Armstrong and the battle sounds make this even more intense.
Big sleeping with sirens fan here! No they didn't write the songs, it's just Kellin on it. Sleeping With Sirens started mostly as an emo/post-hardcore type band but have always had a metal influence. Now a days they've definitely gone very metalcore, would definitely recommend their song "Bloody Knuckles"
Each song reflects Sonic and one of his Friends. Undefeatable = Amy Break through it all = knuckles Find your flame = Tails You can hear it in the lyrics and the rhythm of the song.
how does undefeatable reflect amy? 😭 seriously i wanna know, cause i can’t find anything in the song. also i have a theory regarding the pov of the songs. some people think it’s from sonic’s pov, some think from the titan’s (really the ancients who controlled them, but you know), and i’m here to say, i can connect them to both. i think the lyrics are supposed to be going back and fourth between perspectives. similar to a call and response kind of situation. for example break through it all, the verse is supposed to be how these ancients are feeling about what happened, and everything going on, and it’s all kinda dark. then the chorus comes, and it’s really uplifting, and sounds exactly like something sonic would say. eh? eh?? do you agree? i think i hit the nail on the head, if i do say so myself.
If you actually take a second to pay attention to the lyrics from any of these songs it becomes very clear that they’re from Sonic’s perspective, Undefeatable especially. That song is literally just Sonic talking shit to the Titan and saying that it’s not close to being a threat to him.
Sonic’s voice actor Roger Craig Smith’s voice is a bit deeper than it used to be and as a result, Sonic’s voice is deeper. People think he’s supposed to be a bit older in frontiers so it is entirely possible they were going for a more adult feel.
Sonic Team and SEGA finally realized that Sonic's audience has grown up A LOT and made a game with a more mature feel -- without making an awkward shift from the cheesy goofball Sonic character we're so familiar with. Hearing Roger's voice also tone down as he got older, it fits so well.
It’s not that Roger’s voice got deeper. He said that when they were recording lines, they told him to make his voice deeper until it got to how it is now. Like you said, maybe they did this because they wanted this game to have a more serious tone but yeah, that’s how they wanted Sonic to sound for some reason and I’m for it honestly
Undefeatable,Break Through It All, and Find Your Flame are the themes for the first three Boss Battles, respectively. I'm Here is the main theme of Sonic Frontiers. A different version of I'm Here plays during the fourth boss battle, and another version called I'm Here Revisited is the final boss theme for alternative battle theme against the fourth boss.
I find it interesting that you felt like Sonic has grown up with you given how the characters in Frontiers are portrayed as more mature, as though the years of adventures have developed them into the heroes they've all become. And now Sega have scrapped ages from the canon, so they may not behave as youthful as in the past. All the songs you've heard are boss themes. The boss fights are the real highlights of the game. Huge spectacles, Sonic is really cool, and the songs hit hard. Find Your Flame is my fav.
Kellen Quinn was definitely a huge part of this soundtrack. So huge, in fact, that the DLC took one of the few vocal songs he _didn't_ do and gave him his own version of it. I almost felt bad for the original singer! 😂 Don't feel bad, dude! You did fine, it's just that it's _really_ hard to compete with Kellen Quinn.
It's the Sonic effect man. People clown on the series for years, but name another series that has broken as many rules as Sonic and is still standing. This series made JIM CARRY, the man who hates sequels, come back for two more movies. My friends flipped their shit when I told them Kellin Quinn was in my "nerdy Sonic game". The Sonic effect is real man.
these songs were performed on a 9 string guitar! break through it all is my all time favourite sonic song. and no, sleeping with sirens is not normally this heavy - the songs only feature kellin, not the whole band. the instrumentals were performed by sega's own music team, notably with MEG on guitars (he has worked with baby metal, one ok rock etc)
@@thegeth4293 MEG is a person, he's on insta. idk about ohtani performing in the actual songs, but if he is it'd be the bass, as he is primarily a bass guitarist outside of composing. he's performed all the titan themes live at some of the symphony shows
I’m glad to see Jesse checking out more of the Titan themes, those boss fights were such a highlight. Kellin Quinn, Andy Bane and Tyler Smyth (the second two you’ll be hearing more of when Infinite’s theme rolls around) killed it on the vocals, when it came to bringing the hype in Frontiers. Also this was the first Sonic soundtrack to feature the use of a 9 string guitar. Which is where a lot of the heaviness of the music comes from, in comparison to past Sonic soundtracks.
I think my favorite part about all of these songs is they are ALL ABOUT DETERMINATION AND NEVER GIVING UP. I've seen people refer to these as "screamo metal" or emo or edgy or whatever. no, they're anything but, the absolute opposite of edgy or emo, they're all about never giving up, never backing down, standing up for yourself and giving back what's thrown at you, to not just take abuse but to defend yourself regardless of what you've been through. it's like power metal in its intense positivity and..."looking-forwardness" but much "lower" sounding rather than the usual "higher" sound that power metal has.
Most metal lyrics aren't edgy or emo. Not as outright positive as this, but certainly not enough to make a distinction imo. Depends on what you're comparing it to, though.
That one is such an unfit for a boss theme, and the guitar solo deserves better than being in that song ngl. Can't say much about Reviited cause I havent done the alt story yet, but I doubt it's much different
You talk about how perfect the production quality for the song is, Kellam has performed the song live at the Sonic Symphony World Tour concerts (there's performances in New York, San Diego, Greensboro, Phoenix, Salt Lake, and Minneapolis left this year if you want to go!) and it's spectacular live!
break through it all is my favorite out of those three. it started off with me like “meh, this is really good, but it ain’t as good as undefeatable.” funny thing, i saw a live performance video of it a while later, and someone was saying that it was their favorite from the game, made me more interested in it, and so i stopped skipping it as much as i did (which wasn’t too much, but enough still) and listening to it more in depth. now here we are. i got to go to the symphony a little over a couple weeks ago and found myself screaming “NO MORE COMPROMISE! THIS IS DO OR DIE!” with everyone else in the audience. before i even got the game this past november, i had already fallen in love with the ost. it was through a cute little reanimation of a couple cutscene-side story things that made me want to play the game, but the music that was in it was what actually made me get it. it quickly became my favorite video game ost by far. break through it all and the game’s main theme, i’m here tie for my favorite track. you NEED to listen to i’m here, BOTH versions. (the original with merry-kirk holmes of to octavia, and the revisited with kellin quinn)
That guitar tone omg For me this is crazy Having music like that in such a "mainstream" series of games Put some metal in the next 3D Mario game please hahaha
@sven6756 The fights against Fury Bowser have a bit of metal to them. In fact the cimilarities to Bowsers fury and Frontiers are kinda crazy, especially the giant Kaiju battle part. And it's not like one stole the other, maybe Frontiers took SOME inspiration but at the end of the day, at roughly the same time they decided to make their respective protagonists fight giant black monsters, while superpowerd and glowing yellow.
Find Your Flame was sung by Kellin Quinn and Tyler Smyth. Tyler has worked on a Sonic vocal track before, "Infinite" from Sonic Forces. A lot of people liked his vocals in the previous game and I recommend listening to the song!
I’m glad he finally heard these songs but honestly my favorite tracks in Frontiers are the Island themes and I’m with you the final boss version. Sonic Frontiers soundtrack is very diverse but that is Sonic music in a nutshell very diverse.
As far as everything I've read on the Frontiers OST, Tomoya Ohtani did everything music wise, including the metalcore tracks, I think he likely contracted Kellin, Smyth, and Merry Kirk (who did the vocals on I'm Here) to possibly help write lyrics or just perform the vocals. The main reason why I think this is cause there's been instrumental versions of these songs released since and the previous 3 performers aren't mentioned anywhere on the instrumental versions as far as anything else beyond vocals that were on the vocal tracks. I do enjoy sleeping with sirens myself, I feel like they don't get as heavy as we hear in these songs though. They sound more like a heavier punk band imo than a metalcore band similar to something like Dragged Under if you ever heard them before. Tomoya Ohtani, though, is a fantastic artist and composer who done absolute gold. If you ever get curious on how he performs there's clips of him and his group performing at the Sonic Orchestra thet had a couple years ago, though it was before Frontiers was released so you don't see any of those tracks there, but it still gives you a small idea on how versatile he is just watching him perform.
@therandomvideochannel8589 Actually, I just went and checked it out, and man, that performance right there was killer. Would love to see Otani on rhythm as he seems very well rounded when it comes to knowing multiple instruments from what I've seen.
@@TreiskadekDevil for sure, i'm pretty sure ohtani played acoustic guitar for a performance of one way dream with the symphony. every frontiers performance with adrienne on vocals is a blast.
What you said about you and Sonic being the same age - that's kind of what's going on, in a way. The writer for Frontiers is Ian Flynn, who also writes for the IDW comics run - a lifelong fan who grew up with the characters. The angle he's taking seems to be that he's writing for an audience of folks in our position, who liked it as kids and have since become adults with an adult audience's awareness of how stories can go. It's working perfectly.
@@math3us420 Our expectations never were really high since we always get banger soundtracks... BUT HOLY MOTHERFUCKING OTHERWORLDY SHIT THAT CAME OUT OF NOWHERE!
the 3 song really fit the pacing of their respective bossfights: undefeatable- giganto: its a straight up fistfight, hes always right in your face break through it all- wyvern: its flying around the map shooting missiles at you until you catch up to it and can start landing blows find your flame- knight: its a blend of the first 2. its an enclosed arena and the camera is always on him, but he is mobile in that arena and you kind of have to catch him to start making hits.
The way the game's music works: Free-roaming the islands: Peaceful ambiance, with touches of soft instruments like piano, violin, etc. VR Stages: High-bpm electronica, like racing music. And for those in the know: going baton. Sub-Bosses: More electronica, but slower and heavier. Often accompanied with an orchestra Island Bosses (Titans): Metalcore. This. Minigames: Well, minigame music. Kinda pop-ish? Cute, but nothing too mindblowing.
5:36-5:56 I love how you seem to confidently think that you now know what to expect only to be thrown for a loop again with Kellin's vocals! It's like how you first reacted to Undefeatable! You think the fans expected this?! We didn't! It's amazing!
I really like that the Frontiers soundtrack goes very in on the music. The boss fights being NuMetal like this, the exploration overworld music being very atmospheric and the bonus stages being more the typical Sonic electronic music. Excellent soundtrack.
hell yeah!!! i love find your flame sm i actually found it on spotify somehow, went dang this song slaps, and then realized it was from a sonic game LMAO its so funny tho i had the same experience with you on undefeatable thinking it was female vocals at first. but i actually had the same experience back in like middle school when my friend showed me sleeping with sirens. didn't realize it was the same freakin dude for a minute! 😂
Hearing these songs as I played through the game was unmatched, genuinely. Glad you're listenin to them though, so close to hitting all of the vocal tracks!
side note; the queens blood theme is so good that I can ignore the pain of doing every single challenge and puzzle and duel and some of them even twice
Tyler Smyth is relatively new to the Sonic Music game. Tyler Smyth is part of a group called Dangerkids with Andy Bane and he did the the raps. They're more known for doing Infinite's Theme from Sonic Forces which...you may end up hearing at some point.
i feel the context of break through it all really help its reason for its different pacing, frontiers takes place over the course of several islands each being capitalized by their own boss, two(undefeatble and find your flame) are in a locked area, turning their fights into this hyper intense mashpit, one however(break through it all) takes place over the entire island as you're engaged in an arial chase which takes more of the fight than the actual beating up the boss as you instead spend most of your time dodging and parrying their own, the songs arent just perfect for the high speed aggression fightstyle of sonic but perfect for their unique instances
Regarding the discussion between the two songs, you really should check out some of the other songs on the OST, not JUST the boss songs like this. It's crazy how much variety this soundtrack has, only the boss themes are this more "edgy metal" sound. You have more of a pop feel in songs like One Way Dream and I'm With You (Vocal Version), the Cyberspace (basically bonus levels) songs (there's an official "Cyberspace DJ Mix" mashup you can listen to on the Sonic channel for an easy sampler) are all different EDM genres from Trance to Drum and Bass, and then the main overworld tracks (it's an open world game with multiple islands) are beautiful orchestral movements with multiple parts. Sonic games have always had music variety in different games but rarely does one single game have such vastly different music all cohesively working together.
I love Sonic. Break Through It All is my favorite track from the game. I believe it has my favorite vocals and rhythm guitar across all three songs featured, it’s so heavy and I dig it hard for that. The song is further elevated with the boss fight it is attached to though, I haven’t played the game yet but from what I watched that was most adrenaline pumping Sonic fight I’ve seen in my opinion. Great experience all around and always brightens my day seeing Sonic on the channel. Thanks to all those that got these songs here 🤘🏿🙏🏿🙌🏿. P.S. I was freaking out when you mentioned Blazblue for the instrumentals 😂. I had actually gone on a mission after your most recent reaction, because I liked the music that much, and listened to every Blazblue OST and made a playlist of my favorites. They went hard so hearing you mention that; the fact that it reminded you of Blazblue I feel is high praise.
I think a majority of these heavy tracks on Sonic Frontiers are from the boss fights. I remember my primary motivation for reaching each areas boss was that I was finally gonna hear Kellin blow up my head phones again.
Been waiting for this one. Find Your Flame is my favorite vocal track from Frontiers, not only because its just a bangin' track but because it's also the song representing Tails (who is also my favorite StH character). Each boss track does represent the friend character you meet in the lyrics, and going with the characterization Tails goes through on the island and listening to the lyrics, its something special. "You'll find your flame" is basically Sonic telling Tails that he'll one day grow into his own and be the hero he's meant to become. Break Through It All took a few listens to grow on me, primarily because of how oppressive and "negative" it sounds at the start (my music knowledge is next to nothing, but it uses lower tone chords, right?). But that works in contrast to the sudden "positive", higher tone chords come in with the 2nd verse. And once again, the lyrics match the character you meet, which is Knuckles. The way you describe the song, slow and chunky, does represent Knuckles in away; he's not the fastest (or smartest), but by god, when he hits, he *hits*. Just like the song. Really glad you enjoyed them, and here's hoping you touch on the rest of the boss vocal tracks (and maybe even the 2 credit tracks)!
I don't know if all of Sleeping With Sirens sounds like these, but they recently put out a song called "Don't Let the Party Die" and it sounds like it could stand shoulder to shoulder with these 3 Sonic tracks, so yeah if you crave songs like THIS... there's more to hear.
Next on the list for Sonic Frontiers, you've got I'm Here, the theme song of the game and also a boss song, and I'm Here Revisited, the version from the last update of the free DLC. You could also listen to the orchestral version of I'm Here, since it plays in-between both of those, but since you're doing 2 songs per video I'm guessing not ! If you think the whole game's OST is like the boss themes, you're in for a surprise ! It's a sort of soundtrack that can get surprisingly deep and emotional. In fact, I hope you get to react to one or two of the field themes ( they're called Island Movevements, because they are in multiple versions that build up as you progress ). Notably, the Theme of Starfall Islands, and also the specific video of the making of Ares Island's 2nd Movement. It's so worth it, and you'll see Frontiers' sound in a new light ! And then of course, there's the Cyberspace level themes. For these I think you can just watch the two DJ mixes on the official Sonic The Hedgehog channel. Likewise, next time you react to Frontiers music, I hope you get the official uploads from the SEGA Topic !
God bless Tomoya Ohtani. You'd be surprised this game has like 3 different music styles (orchestral, edm and metalcore) and he has delved in all 3. Also you should try to seek the ost versions of these songs instead of the ones from random uploaders if possible
also here are the credits for these 3 songs you've heard: Vocals by Kellin Quinn (Sleeping With Sirens) [& Tyler Smyth (Dangerkids) for Find Your Flame] Lyrics & Co-Vocal Writing by Tyler Smyth, Julian Comeau, Kellin Quinn Composed & Arranged by Tomoya Ohtani Co-Arranged & Mixed by MEG Guitars & Programming: MEG (9 string btw) Vocals Produced by Tyler Smyth Vocals Edited by Julian Comeau Vocal Session coordinated by Jun Senoue & Tyler Smyth Artist Management: 5B Management Producer Management: John Youngman (Fly South Music Group) It is not a "band" but a group of musicians Jun and Ohtani got together
I cannot believe there were almost 8 months in between sonic songs. This is truly the greatest travesty (and I’m a new subscriber lol) I’m game for more Sonic, Mario and Pokémon for the rest of time immoral. Truly the 3 Goats of VGM. I can count on one hand the games from these collective series that had bad soundtracks.
kellin actually performed at at least? one of the sonic symphony circuits at some point, and man oh man the vibes of the footage are impeccable, you can just tell this is the kind of music people love to get wild and rowdy to. it seemed like the worlds most fun blue furry rock party you can imagine
Ayy you returned to them big hype, they also have instrumentals on the album which really let you hear the instruments. And nah its kellen and tyler smyth (dangerkids) for the songs plus segas normal music producers. People have joked that this was better than sleeping with sirens recent albums and… its kinda not a joke lol. Theres one more song they did though, “im here” revisited version which was for the free dlc
Kellen Quinn is the lead singer from Sleeping with Sirens, and Tyler Smyth is one of the singers from Danger Kids. And Danger Kids did Infinite’s, the debuting villain from Sonic Forces, theme song. Which is impressive for Tyler because I think only Crush 40 has gotten the opportunity to do a song for another game for the Sonic franchise before him. Ohtani must like his vocals a lot.
Honestly I have to agree, people don't really talk about the drummer much at ALL in these songs but honestly I think they're doing just as much work as the lead singer in these songs. It's SO good.
i love your reactions jesse, i'm glad you finally got around to more sonic but it'll be cool to see you react to metal hellsinger music, those songs are heavy an right up your alley.
I waited eagerly for you to get to these two ever since you heard Undefeatable! Hearing these three for the first time during the boss fights was a transcendent experience oh my God
I hope down the road people send "one way dream" and "i'm with you (vocal)" towards you. These are the credits themes & some of my favorites personally from the soundtrack, along with the cyber space themes, where the composer just went, "we have access to all these artists & composers through rhythm games like hatsune miku & chunithm along others, let's bring them in to participate here." Let's just say they went nuts in a good way with those. To answer your question about why it's called frontiers, it's many because of two reasons: 1: This is the start of a new era of sonic, a "new frontier" if you will. 2: You travel in big environments / open zones most of the time, a bunch of frontiers you could say. Think how monster hunter has different biomes that are huge, but they're not connected physically to each other, so you can't just walk from one into another. You have to travel between them through other means.
Def should do "im here" and "I'm here Revisited" for the next one. Then you should explore more 3d sonic vocal tracks. Cuz their are a bunch of great ones
big Sleeping With Sirens fan. recent SWS sounds kinda like this, though with a liiittle more pop sentiment. their first two albums get heavier, though with rougher mixing and whatnot of course. this is not the entire band, only Kellin lending his voice to the music :)
Really happy to see you listening to more Sonic Frontiers music! The game is so fun and such a breath of fresh air for Sonic, and the music perfectly adds to that feeling. I know it'd probably never happen, but I'd love for you to check out the game someday!
The first time i've played frontiers undefeatable blew my mind super hard cuz even i as a long time fan of the series who listened to powerman 5000 playing in one of the games wasn't expecting fast metal in the first boss. When i got to the 2nd boss fight one of my friends who isn't into sonic just came by and watched me start the boss and beat it, and it was so funny watch him get flabergasted that he was seeing sonic super saiyan fighting a gigantic mechanical dragon that shoot missiles and lasers while metal music played in the background asuhasuhauhasuh When he realized the music was syncing with the fight (yeah the music syncs with the fight in the game i'm not kidding) he looked at me and went "wait this isn't your playlist, this is in the game?" "yeah i know, i wasn't expecting aswell when i got to the first boss" "gee i have to check this game now". We know eachother since school, and i've never seen him so interested in a sonic game like that moment.
Break Through It All is one of my favorite boss themes in the whole series, and the boss it plays in is so fucking epic it's insane. Feels like you're playing a shonen game.
sonic music is always great. so many different genres. sonic has always had attitude and each soundtrack fits the game it comes from. and yeah this soundtrack in general goes hard. so many great songs that fit so many feels. boss music being top notch. sonic is one of the reasons i listen to what i listen to. crush 40 back in adventure days bringing hard rock to the series was great.
if you’re interested in sleeping with sirens i recommend their older stuff. like their album “with ears to see and eyes to hear” kellins range is super impressive and the songs are super catchy. it’s not too crazy heavy and djenty like this but still a good listen.
The more i listen to it honestly Break Through it All might become my favorite of the 4, it's a lot different than the others cuz those play the chorus 3 times, a sick ass guitar rift before the final chorus, and they're fast, it's like a similar "structure" to previous Sonic songs, namely the Crush 40 ones, but this one? Super heavy, sick ass guitar rift happens around the middle before transitioning into the best part which lasts till the end, the use of violins, the most heroic and badass sounding guitar riffs in the background complimenting the vocals, i just love it Also yes i said 4 because Kellin did one last song: I'm Here (Revisited) which you should totally check out too
'im here and 'im here(revisited)' are definitely the last two boss themes you should give a chance to listen too. Im here(original) is sung by Merry Kirk-Holmes Im here(revisited) is sung by Kellin Quinn
Fun fact. A mad lad here on youtube made a Video where he played the final boss of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. With Find Your Flame blasting in the background. And it fits so well you'd have a hard time believing it was from a Different Game. In terms of music Sonic Frontiers truly is Metal Gear Rising Revengeance' successor. All down to fist fighting giant robots and insane finishers involving Skyscraper Sized Swords.
Tomoyo Ohtani feels like he loves to take ... like... Buttrock or whatever, just one of those transient genres and is like, "Hold on, there's more here that was never explored."
Avenged Sevenfold has been real quiet since this dropped.
"Unholy confessions? nah listen to real metalcore"
"Is that soni-"
"DON'T LOOK DOWNNNNN"
They wish they could touch it
The music was done by SEGA's Sound Team lead by Tomoya Ohtani, one of Sonic's longest standing composers and has been the head of sound direction in SEGA since the late 2000s. He even brought out the 9 string for this game, that's why the guitar sounds very low!
The only track with the 9 string is "I'm Here", every other track has a 7 string tuned to Drop F
Fun fact, you didnt listen to actual OST version, ya listened to the game rip version. This is why the final solo of find your fame awkardly repeats itself. The songs aren't actually in one peice in game, the different sections are sequenced to phases of the boss fights they are attached too.
The two solos are actually different if you listen closely
True and the quality is awful on those uploads
@@bedrockbetteryeah I noticed that too, the second solo is different from the first

Wasn't he formally a part of Hoobastank?
I thought he sounded familiar.

for the longest time Catch Me If You Can from Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity has been my all-time favorite Sonic vocal theme, until Sonic Frontiers BURSTS THROUGH THE WALL and gave Break Through It All the crown of my new number one favorite.
but seriously, all the vocal tracks are incredible and will definitely be remembered for years to come, just as much as the Crush 40 songs have been.
since so far you've only heard the boss themes in Frontiers, I can't wait for you get to the rest of the soundtrack, especially the variety in the Cyberspace ones. there's a lot more to explore in Frontiers!
real crush 40s version of zero gravity is SO good
We need cyberspace 1-2 STAT
Undefeatable = Amy
Break through it all = knuckles
Find your flame = Tails
You can hear it in the lyrics and the rhythm of the song.
how does undefeatable reflect amy? 😭
seriously i wanna know, cause i can’t find anything in the song.
also i have a theory regarding the pov of the songs. some people think it’s from sonic’s pov, some think from the titan’s (really the ancients who controlled them, but you know), and i’m here to say, i can connect them to both. i think the lyrics are supposed to be going back and fourth between perspectives. similar to a call and response kind of situation.
for example break through it all, the verse is supposed to be how these ancients are feeling about what happened, and everything going on, and it’s all kinda dark. then the chorus comes, and it’s really uplifting, and sounds exactly like something sonic would say.
eh? eh?? do you agree? i think i hit the nail on the head, if i do say so myself.
Absolutely fkin not
If you actually take a second to pay attention to the lyrics from any of these songs it becomes very clear that they’re from Sonic’s perspective, Undefeatable especially.
Oh yeah and then at least as of sonic dream team, it actually seems like he’s keeping the deeper voice too.
Agreed. He didn't do bad at all! Kellen is just...Kellen haha
Merry Kirk-Holmes did great for I'm Here but when converting it to a final boss track? Getting Kellin on vocals was a smart choice
@@fable23 iirc it was Natewabtstobattle who did I'm Here
@@Miner.737 no, merry kirk-holmes did the original Im here, nate did one way dream
@@thegeth4293 oh yeah
It's the Sonic effect man. People clown on the series for years, but name another series that has broken as many rules as Sonic and is still standing. This series made JIM CARRY, the man who hates sequels, come back for two more movies. My friends flipped their shit when I told them Kellin Quinn was in my "nerdy Sonic game". The Sonic effect is real man.
these songs were performed on a 9 string guitar! break through it all is my all time favourite sonic song.
and no, sleeping with sirens is not normally this heavy - the songs only feature kellin, not the whole band. the instrumentals were performed by sega's own music team, notably with MEG on guitars (he has worked with baby metal, one ok rock etc)
who is MEG? a person or a band? is ohtaini himself playing any instruments in these songs?
@@thegeth4293 MEG is a person, he's on insta. idk about ohtani performing in the actual songs, but if he is it'd be the bass, as he is primarily a bass guitarist outside of composing. he's performed all the titan themes live at some of the symphony shows
@@thegeth4293 its a person
NOW "I'M HERE" AND ALL ITS VERSION! WE NEED IT NEXT!
That one is such an unfit for a boss theme, and the guitar solo deserves better than being in that song ngl. Can't say much about Reviited cause I havent done the alt story yet, but I doubt it's much different
@@RandommBoyo They brought Kellin Quinn back for the Re-Visited version and its much more climatic as well
I did t like im here at all, but the revisted version is honestly hype @Kacper42PL
@@RandommBoyo Highly recommend listening to it
Not a fan of the original, but I’m Here Revisited is definitely up there, it slaps way more than it needs to.
8:30 That's the funny part, Sonic has always been somewhat edgy yet cheesy. It's easier to see when you compare him with a past rival like Mario
Sonic is sharp cheddar
@@laurentiuslancaster1657 yea, wasn't sonic described originally as "the cool video game for fast cool people, instead of the slow Mario for weenies"
break through it all is my favorite out of those three. it started off with me like “meh, this is really good, but it ain’t as good as undefeatable.” funny thing, i saw a live performance video of it a while later, and someone was saying that it was their favorite from the game, made me more interested in it, and so i stopped skipping it as much as i did (which wasn’t too much, but enough still) and listening to it more in depth. now here we are. i got to go to the symphony a little over a couple weeks ago and found myself screaming “NO MORE COMPROMISE!
That guitar tone omg
For me this is crazy
Having music like that in such a "mainstream" series of games
Put some metal in the next 3D Mario game please hahaha
Listen to Bowser Fury Bowser theme, it's pretty metal for a Mario game 👌
@@sven6756 I will! Never played this one but it looked cool
What makes these songs even better is that they're "boss battle" music from Sonic Frontiers. Glad to see you vibing to the amazing Sonic music.
Sonic Frontiers soundtrack is very diverse but that is Sonic music in a nutshell very diverse.
find your flame GOES THE FUCK IN during the boss fight. I love it
I could listen to Jesse talk endlessly, such a peaceful relaxing voice.
If you ever get curious on how he performs there's clips of him and his group performing at the Sonic Orchestra thet had a couple years ago, though it was before Frontiers was released so you don't see any of those tracks there, but it still gives you a small idea on how versatile he is just watching him perform.
i've got a video of break through it all live with sonic symphony in february on my channel, ohtani is playing bass in it
@therandomvideochannel8589 Actually, I just went and checked it out, and man, that performance right there was killer.
It's working perfectly.
oh break through it all my goat
My personal favorite! The heaviest of the 4 IMO, and it has my favorite chord progression in the 2nd half xD
@pAirA_ it's been 1 year, and I still can't believe that this song is real
@@math3us420 Our expectations never were really high since we always get banger soundtracks...
BUT HOLY MOTHERFUCKING OTHERWORLDY SHIT THAT CAME OUT OF NOWHERE!
the 3 song really fit the pacing of their respective bossfights:
undefeatable- giganto: its a straight up fistfight, hes always right in your face
break through it all- wyvern: its flying around the map shooting missiles at you until you catch up to it and can start landing blows
find your flame- knight: its a blend of the first 2. its an enclosed arena and the camera is always on him, but he is mobile in that arena and you kind of have to catch him to start making hits.
The way the game's music works:
Free-roaming the islands: Peaceful ambiance, with touches of soft instruments like piano, violin, etc.
VR Stages: High-bpm electronica, like racing music. And for those in the know: going baton.
Sub-Bosses: More electronica, but slower and heavier. Often accompanied with an orchestra
Island Bosses (Titans): Metalcore. This.
Minigames: Well, minigame music. Kinda pop-ish? Cute, but nothing too mindblowing.
5:36-5:56
I love how you seem to confidently think that you now know what to expect only to be thrown for a loop again with Kellin's vocals!
Yesss it is sonic day. Love that jesse gets to go through the evolution of sonic music through the eras
I believe the reason why it’s called Frontiers cuz it’s the first sonic Open World game.
These were great. It's crazy that I legit have Sonic songs in my metal playlist.
hell yeah!!! i love find your flame sm i actually found it on spotify somehow, went dang this song slaps, and then realized it was from a sonic game LMAO
its so funny tho i had the same experience with you on undefeatable thinking it was female vocals at first. but i actually had the same experience back in like middle school when my friend showed me sleeping with sirens. didn't realize it was the same freakin dude for a minute! 😂
Hearing these songs as I played through the game was unmatched, genuinely. Glad you're listenin to them though, so close to hitting all of the vocal tracks!
side note; the queens blood theme is so good that I can ignore the pain of doing every single challenge and puzzle and duel and some of them even twice
This is one of the times I wish you had visuals to go with the song. It's just as badass.
this is like waking up to a birthday cake hell yes
We came this 🤏 close to Jesse saying "had a baby" in a Sonic video. We've been saved.
Tyler Smyth is relatively new to the Sonic Music game. Tyler Smyth is part of a group called Dangerkids with Andy Bane and he did the the raps. They're more known for doing Infinite's Theme from Sonic Forces which...you may end up hearing at some point.
Finally!!! I feel like it’s been ages since Sonic was on this channel.
i feel the context of break through it all really help its reason for its different pacing, frontiers takes place over the course of several islands each being capitalized by their own boss, two(undefeatble and find your flame) are in a locked area, turning their fights into this hyper intense mashpit, one however(break through it all) takes place over the entire island as you're engaged in an arial chase which takes more of the fight than the actual beating up the boss as you instead spend most of your time dodging and parrying their own, the songs arent just perfect for the high speed aggression fightstyle of sonic but perfect for their unique instances
FINALLY, YESSSSSS
MORE SONIC PLSSS, your reactions are sooo good!
This was amazing!
Now we just need him to react to one of the really calm song like "theme of the starfall islands". That imo would be hilarious
Really glad you enjoyed them, and here's hoping you touch on the rest of the boss vocal tracks (and maybe even the 2 credit tracks)!
everything you said about find your flame!!! it's my favorite too, such a jam, and i love that it sounds like sonic hyping up tails!
I don't know if all of Sleeping With Sirens sounds like these, but they recently put out a song called "Don't Let the Party Die" and it sounds like it could stand shoulder to shoulder with these 3 Sonic tracks, so yeah if you crave songs like THIS... there's more to hear.
Huh I need to give it a listen. What if they got inspired by this ost? Would make a lot of sense
Also you should try to seek the ost versions of these songs instead of the ones from random uploaders if possible
also here are the credits for these 3 songs you've heard:

Been waiting for these 😎. Just one more Kellin song to go for Frontiers, “I’m Here Revisited”. Also doesn’t disappoint 😂
Waited forever for you to listen to these tracks ma dude 🤘🏻🔥
Ayy you returned to them big hype, they also have instrumentals on the album which really let you hear the instruments. And nah its kellen and tyler smyth (dangerkids) for the songs plus segas normal music producers. People have joked that this was better than sleeping with sirens recent albums and… its kinda not a joke lol. Theres one more song they did though, “im here” revisited version which was for the free dlc
Break through it all captures the energy of 2000’s sonic but puts such a modern spin on it, I love it SO MUCH.
First time I heard either of these and my god I love Break Through It All. Put on my playlist.
Wasnt a fan of sleeping with sirens before this game came out, but this game introduced me to them and I can call myself an enjoyer
I waited eagerly for you to get to these two ever since you heard Undefeatable! Hearing these three for the first time during the boss fights was a transcendent experience oh my God
Was quite surprised to see this pop up in my notifications lol, really glad you enjoyed both tracks!
To answer your question about why it's called frontiers, it's many because of two reasons:
1: This is the start of a new era of sonic, a "new frontier" if you will.
Probably one of my favorite reactions from this channel, super glad you like both songs
big Sleeping With Sirens fan. recent SWS sounds kinda like this, though with a liiittle more pop sentiment. their first two albums get heavier, though with rougher mixing and whatnot of course.
this is not the entire band, only Kellin lending his voice to the music :)
Sonic never fails when it comes to the soundtrack and this new version of metal is PERFECT
Really happy to see you listening to more Sonic Frontiers music! The game is so fun and such a breath of fresh air for Sonic, and the music perfectly adds to that feeling. I know it'd probably never happen, but I'd love for you to check out the game someday!
I was more surprised Kellan is still doing vocals like this at 38!
I’m sitting there listening to the intro wondering where I’ve heard it before and then it hit me, it’s queens blood theme music 😭
Amazing of you to get back to Sonic!
If you can could you check out Cannonball and Esperanto from Megaman Zero?
The first time i've played frontiers undefeatable blew my mind super hard cuz even i as a long time fan of the series who listened to powerman 5000 playing in one of the games wasn't expecting fast metal in the first boss. When i got to the 2nd boss fight one of my friends who isn't into sonic just came by and watched me start the boss and beat it, and it was so funny watch him get flabergasted that he was seeing sonic super saiyan fighting a gigantic mechanical dragon that shoot missiles and lasers while metal music played in the background asuhasuhauhasuh
When he realized the music was syncing with the fight (yeah the music syncs with the fight in the game i'm not kidding) he looked at me and went "wait this isn't your playlist, this is in the game?" "yeah i know, i wasn't expecting aswell when i got to the first boss" "gee i have to check this game now". We know eachother since school, and i've never seen him so interested in a sonic game like that moment.
Break Through It All is one of my favorite boss themes in the whole series, and the boss it plays in is so fucking epic it's insane. Feels like you're playing a shonen game.
You’ve GOTTA check out the boss fights of Sonic Frontiers; seeing the boss fights WITH the music really kicks the HYPE into high gear😉👍🏻
all of those songs are first 3 boss battle themes. they go hard as hell, id say at least watch one video of them so you can truly get the experience
sonic music is always great. so many different genres. sonic has always had attitude and each soundtrack fits the game it comes from. and yeah this soundtrack in general goes hard. so many great songs that fit so many feels. boss music being top notch. sonic is one of the reasons i listen to what i listen to. crush 40 back in adventure days bringing hard rock to the series was great.
All these songs has me hopping and screaming cause WTF, when I played it I was like "NO WAY THIS IS SONIC-- FUCKING METAL??"
You gotta listen to I’m Here. Both the og and the revised version that came out with update 3. Absolute bangers.
Vandalize by one ok rock is really good too. You should definitely listen to it.
these songs never fail to pump me up lol
if you’re interested in sleeping with sirens i recommend their older stuff. like their album “with ears to see and eyes to hear” kellins range is super impressive and the songs are super catchy. it’s not too crazy heavy and djenty like this but still a good listen.
It's usually the Super Sonic songs that go wham even outside of Frontiers like What I'm Made of
Yo! Is that Queen's Blood in the background?!
Also, first time listening to this song. It was such a banger!
Super heavy, sick ass guitar rift happens around the middle before transitioning into the best part which lasts till the end, the use of violins, the most heroic and badass sounding guitar riffs in the background complimenting the vocals, i just love it
Also yes i said 4 because Kellin did one last song: I'm Here (Revisited) which you should totally check out too
you playing this game at any point or streaming it would be AMAZING
'im here and 'im here(revisited)' are definitely the last two boss themes you should give a chance to listen too.
Im here(original) is sung by Merry
Kirk-Holmes
Im here(revisited) is sung by Kellin Quinn
Find your flame is my modern day Live and Learn
There's no a sonic orchestra tour in the US there the one that sings the metal parts is Adrienne from seven spires
There's multiple different singers, depending on the location. Casey Lee Williams has sung at some shows as well, as did a few other people! =)
sleeping with sirens fan here! listen to 'If You Can't Hang' and rock on to these fucking bangers
This took me by surprise for the first time
