It's great that she credits the Everly Brothers who originally recorded the rock classic written by Phil Everly -- but the arrangement she uses is all Linda Ronstadt.
I just hear her sing a Different Drum and this song of the Linda Ronstads rock & roll induction and she absolutely rocked it. She has come a long, long way from this performance both as a singer and as an artist. She is the best American Idol ever produced. Carrie and Kelly Clarkson are in a league of their own. True superstars
Best performance of this classic country rock song I've heard since The Everly Brothers. Randy and Paula were misguided on this one. What a great voice! This would've been a monster Country hit just as it is.
I stumble across this video right after watching Linda Ronstadt's version of the song, and there is just no comparison. I wouldn't normally agree with Paula and Randy but they are spot on this time. Go ahead and compare for yourself!
They was wrong she did this song well I bet they can't get up there and do that they expecting her to be like the original singer and she's not she song the song in her on way and main one simon cowell liked it tell she did a good performance cause he hardly like anything
Did those dummies really not know that "Piece of My Heart" was covered by Faith Hill and she was singing THAT version??? She wasn't trying to be rock n roll lol.
when she sang this song, she was told to step out of her shell and that this was too boring, however, on the last song, she was told to stick to what she knows and stay safe ????
Simon's comment had nothing to do with her performance for the week though. Because Carrie is 1 of the 3 people who know who they musically, Carrie deserves a pass each week? Whenever Carrie wasn't her best in a given week, Simom always found a way to justify it. There's been no AI Contestant winner in history that avoided Simon's harsh wrath more than Carrie. It always felt like he didn't want to sabotage Carrie's chances of winning because he felt that she had the most marketability and greatest commercial appeal after the show was over, so he wanted her to win from the very beginning, even if that meant he was more lenient on her when compared to other contestants. Carrie was really good in her AI journey on the show but imagine how much better she could've been if Simon pushed her more outside her comfort zone.
Classic as of 2014 and this was big back in 2005-2006 when American Idol was the number #1 talent show, and overall Carrie Underwood (American Idol Season 4) > Audra McLaughlin (The Voice Season 6) since Carrie did listen to this song before American Idol unlike Audra which had to do it on the voice as a battle song
I'm a huge Linda Ronstadt fan, and this was Linda's arrangement that she sang. I'm in the middle of Simon vs. Paula and Randy. I thought the song was pitchy and awkwardly delivered. It was good, but clearly even she knew she didn't do it justice.
a little pitchy, but who doesn't get like that once in a while? i love this performance cause you can really see right here the shadow of who she's become today.
So Randy and Paula after all these years and the level her success, do you feel stupid now ,if not you should . Simon might be harsh but he’s smart and he knows talent when he hears it .
Lol. No way. In your dreams. You must be deaf. You're delusional. Are you 10 years old? How much $$$ did someone pay you to say that? Are you a trolling? Blah blah blah yeah right. You're guilty of all the above.
+K Howell She probably knocked em dead in rehearsals, but this was Gong Show material ! Too bad, she's about thirty years too late. Where's Jamie Farr or Jaye P. Morgan when you really need them?
This was all over the board. A few dodgy flat notes, a lack-luster arrangement, and a really only a passing homage to the Linda Ronstadt version without nearly as much heart or swing to it. Randy and Paula were dead-on. This was a mediocre performance. I never watch Idol, never new she sang this when she was competing. She's matured a lot since then. I bet she could sing it much better now. Go listen to Ronstadt's versions. You'll see. Underwood wasn't even close.
I never liked randy ot Paul carrie did amazing right here at least Simon saw the talent and then randy what he dose anyway and Paul I never like her music poor carrie looked like she was going to cry I just wanted to give her a hug
have you heard her today? She's all about projection. Listen to "Blown away" A vocal coach named "Sophie Shear uses Carrie as an example of projection and how to slide.
Nice voice.....give the girl some credit. She had to follow Ronstadt's version, and she couldn't capture Linda's bitchy attitude.I love the Everly Brothers too, but this is a woman's song.
OK, she can sing, but sorry folks, she did not come close to Linda's version. Granted, it's an Everly Brothers tune, but everyone in the Western Hemisphere knows Linda's interpretation. Thumbs down for not even mentioning Linda as an influence. I'm not impressed.
I was blown away by that performance and I'm a huge fan of Linda Ronstadts version. Carrie is great.
It's great that she credits the Everly Brothers who originally recorded the rock classic written by Phil Everly -- but the arrangement she uses is all Linda Ronstadt.
Proof that Simon is the one with a clue!
SHE just has it! truly fantastic talent!
I just hear her sing a Different Drum and this song of the Linda Ronstads rock & roll induction and she absolutely rocked it. haha, it's so great seeing her sing on TV pre-super stardom
Just found this video and that's why Simon is the GOAT
I need studio versions of everything she did on Idol
Wasn't just ok tonight at the Kennedy center honors honoring Linda Ronstadt!! 2019!! She rocked it!!
Jules Servant of Jesus Only Carrie could do what she did at the awards! Amazing doesn’t scratch the surface!
Carrie is just great singing anything!
What a voice on this girl!
And she ended up winning the whole thing!!
Best performance of this classic country rock song I've heard since The Everly Brothers. Randy and Paula were misguided on this one. What a great voice! This would've been a monster Country hit just as it is.
love this version!!!!!!
Now tell us what you think of this so very talented singer who has sold millions of her albums. Funny how she sky rocketed huh?
Wow! What a voice!
I think it was incredible. idk what they are talking about. Yeah!!!!! Simon!
I stumble across this video right after watching Linda Ronstadt's version of the song, and there is just no comparison. I wouldn't normally agree with Paula and Randy but they are spot on this time. Go ahead and compare for yourself!

She just sang this song the Kennedy Center Honors to honor Linda Ronstadt! go check it out!
Did those dummies really not know that "Piece of My Heart" was covered by Faith Hill and she was singing THAT version??? She wasn't trying to be rock n roll lol.
If you want to vote for Carrie. Clearly, lots of people voted for her. The best ever on A I.
💥❤️❤️, I'M WAITING ❤️❤️💥
Who'd have thought when this aired that just nine years later, Carrie would sing this same song at Linda's Rock & Roll HOF induction.
🌹, LOVE YOU TO THE MAX 🌹
i totally agree. paula and randy are crazy
when she sang this song, she was told to step out of her shell and that this was too boring, however, on the last song, she was told to stick to what she knows and stay safe ????
Well she sang it at Linda Rondstadt’s Kennedy center honors and she was amazing!!!
Simon's comment had nothing to do with her performance for the week though. Because Carrie is 1 of the 3 people who know who they musically, Carrie deserves a pass each week? These judges make it more about how aragarantly important there opinion is than how good she sings.
look were she is now , blaalaaalaa!!!!!
I think the singing was fine it was her stage presence that needed work. Doesn't matter now considering how amazing Carrie is at everything she does.
Very fun, entertaining song....Carrie was already standing out as a star by this time, what was up with Paula and Randy?
she is fine as the day is long...
Who’s crying now!!!???
God I love her so much.
She was so cute before Hollywood had its claws into her!! Fantastic voice tho!!
a little pitchy, but who doesn't get like that once in a while? i love this performance cause you can really see right here the shadow of who she's become today.
God, why can't I sound like this!
Yeah Paula, thats why Carrie sang this for Linda Ronstadt 2x!
So Randy and Paula after all these years and the level her success, do you feel stupid now ,if not you should . Simon might be harsh but he’s smart and he knows talent when he hears it .
Really Paula really When she takes risks you say you miss the old her when she does the country songs she loves you say she needs to take a risk
I am suspicious ...that R & P were criticized for liking everything and playing favorites. NO way that was boring or bad.
i'll love you carrie
hahahahha thats soo funny and probably true!!
Say what you will...she matches Linda's range...not the easiest thing to do.
Lol. No way. In your dreams. You must be deaf. You're delusional.
Are you 10 years old?
How much $$$ did someone pay you to say that? Are you a trolling?
Blah blah blah yeah right. You're guilty of all the above.
Who were the other 2 that Simon referred to? Bo and Constantine?
nothing to beat linda
💯🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🥰👏👏👏👏👏💯
@perixanfin try the dolly parton version thats somthing else
Carrie has a great voice but Linda Ronstadt owns that song. She has the power voice to sing it.
Good. But doesn't improve on Ronstadt in any way, does it?
+Denys A Not a bit !! This would be lousy even if Linda never sang a note of it--not to mention Phil & Don.
not her best performance but shes stil really an amazing singer =)
She does the Linda Ronstadt version and doesn’t mention her 🥴
Paula still on the meds? Randy is wrong...some predetermined bull sh.... Simon right...again.
Simon knows...look where she at now...f the other judges u the shizzz carry
Vert Good version.
Is the singer singing ahead of the music??
+Colin Chin I can't figure out what she's doin--crummy performance. Paula was trying to be nice!
Colin Chin -her phrasing and timing was way off. she adds extra words like "so" and "and". wrong key too.
before he cheats =P
What is she wearing though aaaahhhhh
great singer, she doesn't have the power
Simon, you were correct! And, now Carrie's worth $300 million...more than all three of you pathetic judges put together! 😆🤣😂
@perixanfin when i say her i mean carrie
@pjz11261231 are you serious!!!??? she has the best voice ever!!!
linda ronstadt the best.
She is no Linda Ronstadt.
Its not bad considering she made it big, but I like Linda Ronstadt's version better.
@perixanfin your opionon not mine she holds the notes out to long to much of a fake accent
talk about destroying a great song, why does everybody think that people pouring notes is 'great singing' its bloody terrible.
wth does anyone else think paula and randy are giving out conflicting advice?
Phil Everly just rolled over in his grave!!! This was terrible!! If you want to see it done right check out Martina McBride or Linda Ronstadt!!
+K Howell She probably knocked em dead in rehearsals, but this was Gong Show material ! Too bad, she's about thirty years too late. Where's Jamie Farr or Jaye P. Morgan when you really need them?
And yet no one really cares... lol
Sounds like Randy and Paula were using the same dope that night .Get off the dope Paula.
Ironic that after all the years Paula can't carry Carries jock
why to "high of Key" for carrie. poor harmonys
Lmao, what? She's a soprano. This song is sung in a mezzo key. Not high at all for her.
ITs not her song!
I'm sorry but in my opinion Bo bice is the real season 4 winner not Carrie
The arrangement is HORRIBLE....she is a GREAT singer
paula is to stone to even know where shes at let alone able to judge this performance..!!
Not her best performance. Too many pitch problems.
naw she was good.
No depth. Wrong key. Not a good showing.
@pjz11261231 noo!!
i have heard her sing good stuff but this aint it!! check linda ronstats version no comparison.
This was all over the board. A few dodgy flat notes, a lack-luster arrangement, and a really only a passing homage to the Linda Ronstadt version without nearly as much heart or swing to it. appalled by the judges. Paula is nothing spectacular. She had a lot of nerve
I never liked randy ot Paul carrie did amazing right here at least Simon saw the talent and then randy what he dose anyway and Paul I never like her music poor carrie looked like she was going to cry I just wanted to give her a hug
Linda’s version was boring Carrie Underwood and Martina McBride sing this song better
@pjz11261231 i`ve done that and i like her 100000000 times better!!
I think she is good singer over all.
But she doesn't have power voice.
doesn't sounds like she is feeling music..
have you heard her today? She's all about projection. Listen to "Blown away" A vocal coach named "Sophie Shear uses Carrie as an example of projection and how to slide.
+danielle frank
okay.... Thanks for information!
Ms.Danielle😃
are you singer too???
yes. I lead at my church, and play drums when my dad is gone. Whats Japan like?
+danielle frank
My husband is drummer..!(life time musician😉)
I wish could tell you what's going on JP😂
I'm living Ga...
:D Thats pretty cool. I'm in Mi
She's trying to do the Linda Ronstadt version, but it sounds really lame.
+Joseph Rhee I agree 100% !!
Nice voice.....give the girl some credit. She had to follow Ronstadt's version, and she couldn't capture Linda's bitchy attitude.I love the Everly Brothers too, but this is a woman's song.
Yeah, this song didn't fit her voice. It's nowhere near Linda Ronstadt's version.
Not her best performance
HORSE FACE
OK, she can sing, but sorry folks, she did not come close to Linda's version. Granted, it's an Everly Brothers tune, but everyone in the Western Hemisphere knows Linda's interpretation. Thumbs down for not even mentioning Linda as an influence. I'm not impressed.
she just butchered this
You're crazy. lol
She butchers this song.
This is awful. Why does she suddenly have such credibility? Grammy award winner??? She is showing off her personality.
