I have got totally addicted to Kogan, somehow nowadays I seldom feel like listening to anyone else. I used to be a huge Oistrakh, Szeryng and Heifetz fan, but I think I now enjoy Kogan's performances enjoy even more. His tone is outstanding and his technique is beyond perfection and he is exquisitely lyrical. Thanks to youtube users for making such gems of recordings available to the public.

First part is Sonatina for violin and guitar op. 2. Paganini wrote 12 sonatinas one more beautiful than others. This si the best recording. In Czech Republic was cover at first in 1657 with violinist Karel Šroubek and guitar player Zdeněk Pitter. The guitar part was the same difficult as violin part in some places. You may repair data in titles please. I thanks very much for both soloists. And operafatale for recording also many thanks.
Not among the passed Virtuoso's recording, the living one hard to challenge Kogan I don't think. he is one of the kind may be Paganini himself can. according to the people who went to his concert and wrote, the sounds generated from his violin like from heaven, so beautiful made you burst out tears uncontrollable.
A clareza e sonoridade deste violinista é fantástica! E sua técnica beira a perfeição! Sempre me surpreendo com o Kogan.
I wish Heifetz and Logan where around today, their playing had such charisma and a tone that no longer exists. They are sorely missed, they were both different types of players, but they kept people sitting on the edge of their seats
I admire Leonid and Hilary equally. And above most others. And no, I don't see the anger here. What I see is utter concentration and empathy, with no regard to side issues like presentation and looks. He seems to have been able to lose himself in the music like no other could. I don't think he needed the "success" - he wanted the music. One of my few "heroes".
What a beautiful combination, the violin and the guitar. For some pieces more suitable than the combination of violin/piano. Tchaikovsky once stated that he never would write a piece for violin and piano.
As usual, Kogan has the amazing ability to allow me to hear the *entire* piece. I am never so seduced by his dazzling technique that I can't hear the overarching structure, as I sometimes am even with Heifetz. I don't know why this is, or if he has that effect on anyone else. But Kogan has unlocked pieces for me that no one else was able to. I remember the first time I heard him play the Sauret cadenza in the Paganini violin concerto. I'd heard others play it. But I did not really grasp the full piece, hear it as a coherent whole, in a way that was completely 3-dimensional, until I heard Kogan. I'm struggling to describe this phenomenon but it's there, & no other violinist living or dead has had this effect on me. I enjoy others & am a die-hard Heifetz fan. But Kogan is....Kogan.
Agree with you! He was a perfectionist and he had a very special 3D sound ideal that he was able to achieve through constant tweaking of fingerings and bowings. Of course he had also a great understanding of the structure of the pieces. My mother was his student and later assistant and I learned a lot about it. Yes, Kogan was unique in that sense.
@@operafatale I think by 3D I mean something more figurative. With a lot of violinists I get very involved in "the moment" especially very difficult passages - and it's like that saying "can't see the forest for the trees," the larger context kind of disappears. With Kogan I'm always conscious of "the forest" as well as "the trees" - his particular mark of greatness. That Sauret cadenza - before I heard his performance I barely experienced it as music. It was just a tight-rope act by various violinists. Kogan brought the music back. For me.
