@@ToddJHamilton mate you should actually have facts correct before you spurt off. hes says everyone plays each other once plus 1 rivalry round where you play your enemy a second time ala showdown or derby. Might wanna have your maths right before you shoot down other people for having theirs wrong
I like it all except for a top 12, don't have to work as hard for it. Maybe a top 9 and 1st position gets first week off?
@@riley.holmes that won’t work because that would leave 7 teams in the second round of finals.

You can like Eddie or hate Eddie, but you can’t deny he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to the business of running a football club...
That’s not a business plan, that’s a power point presentation. A first year undergraduate sports management student could of done that.
@@zekejones2249 I don't think so bud
@@mungoman9253 How much is a roofed stadium going to cost to build Mungo? I notice Eddie left that bit out. Kind of important from a “business” point of view to include that info and where you plan to find the money, otherwise you may as well just say anything.
@@mungoman9253 You probably dont think at all. It was nothing more than a list of problems with no solutions it is definetely not a business plan lol
@@yeahna I actually like Eddie, and know better than most what he has done to help Melbourne based clubs OTHER than Collingwood in his time. And I 100% support Tassie getting it’s own side (and before 2028). But let’s be honest, this is pretty much just a thought bubble from a man who just lost his job, and is now looking for some way to remain relevant to the industry.
im Tasmanian and I think this is a fair comment by Eddie
I agree uncle cousin
Sorry to hear that mate keep ur head up u can always move to Melb 🙏
WHAT why should we wait until 2028? Tasmania would have a bigger supporter base than the GWS and Suns in 2022. Also their are two stadiums that are being used today for AFL Football and one has International Cricket so why on earth should the Tax Payer be forced to build another one for?
@@toddpowers3085 Sorry but no, we would definitely not have a bigger supporters then GWS or GC. Majority of Tasmanians would not swap their membership to a Tassie team let's be real. Alot of them already have their own teams they've followed for years and would not just casually swap.
@@jeriava When the West Coast joined the AFL most Western Australians had been following a VFL and WAFL Club for years, just as most South Australians had VFL and SANFL Clubs for years. What percentage of people in Hobart do you think follow North Melbourne or the small drawing teams they play in Hobart every year? Playing NTH and Hawthorn's smallest games every year does nothing for Tasmanian Football all it is doing is propping up Victorian Teams with Tiny Supporter Bases. Tasmania need and deserve their own team not Victoria's left over crappy games.
I’d like to see a Tasmanian and a Northern Territory team. Bring all the states into the game
northern territory ahhahaahahahahah are they going to play on a sand stadium
What about Canberra? Surely the nation's capital has earned an opportunity to host matches full-time
The Northern Territory isn't a state.

ill die happy if we finally get our own Tassie team!
I think most from the other states want tassie to have a team too
Why, you'll never win anything, just another training ground for draftees to the major teams, too many players be picked because of family influence, it's always been that way in two headed Tasmanians,
Well done Eddie, very well said. Would love to see a tassie team.
I wasn't sure at first but dam Eddie, that is starting to sound really good.
Go big Tassie!
I love how he gives this detailed breakdown of what’s needed for a team in Tasmania- Federal and State money, infrastructure, billion dollar stadium, player development- then just casually drops “Oh yeah and another team in Darwin or North Queensland we can call them The Crocs!”
Yeah, to make it an even 20 team league? And to generate more money for the league through tv rights
Are you suggesting the whole idea is a crock?😬🤪👍
Tasmania needs their own Team. Having North Melbourne and Hawthorn Games in Tasmania does NOTHING for Tasmanian Football.
The money that Tasmania pays for those AFL games goes back into the Victorian economy.
Eddie has his "stuff ups" but he is on the ball here.
Give a team to the Tiwi Islands and have a team full of Rioli's.
Fr that would be sick😍
Too confusing.
No way man... They would win every year😂

That side would be OP
I have lived in both Tassie and NT. I'm no Eddie fan, but I have to admit he is spot on with his analysis. He has thought it thru and makes it seem possible. The problem is always going to be the money. Getting locals on board won't be a problem as they love AFL. It makes so much sense, but in the end it will come down to the cents.
If Tasmania gets a team I am moving from western Washington to Hobart.
Looks like your dream is coming true.
A Tassie team in the AFL is like an Australian Republic- it gets brought up every few years but we all know it will never happen.
Persistence prevails when all else fails.
No it’s definitely doable. Just need the will.
Yeah I'm pretty sure Ron Barassi was laughed at way back when for saying there would be 2 AFL teams in QLD, and 2 in NSW on the other side of the "Ron Barassi line" ... So... 🤷♂️
We all like to dream.
You're probably right as the AFL plays Tassie for its money.
This has been my thought for ages. Tassie Devils, Northern Crocs. So obvious.
Yeah how about we get the 2nd QLD team up and about, before thinking about a third one.
I always thought Gold Coast should have been called the Crocs. What team would want to be known as the daylight? Whoever came up with that mascot should be taken out and shot.
@@LTBurger Wasnt aware there was crocodiles on the Gold Coast? Plenty of SUN on the other hand. There mascot does suck, but that can be changed.

Well said and analysed ed, very informative and straight forward. As a footy fan, i think this would be an immense achievement and would do a lot not only for the game but for our country too.
Good call Eddie
Edit: also make North Hobart Oval the Tassie team’s home ground. It’s one of the best looking Footy Stadiums in Australia and with some redevelopment to make the capacity 25-30k with a roof, it would be incredible.
Why would you do that when there’s utas and blunston
@@arch8523 because Blundstone is mainly used for cricket while North Hobart is exclusively footy so there’s no need to worry about centre wickets, not to mention North Hobart is way closer to the Hobart CBD than Blundstone. The main home ground should be in Hobart so UTAS is kinda out of the picture too.
@@JBexplores true well said
@@arch8523 cheers 👌
Agreed on North Hobart redevelopment minus the need for a roof stadium. AFL Footy has been successfully fixtured in Tasmania for last twenty years without one. It’s Tasmania, not Antarctica. Just get North Hobart to same standard of what either GWS or GC are playing at.

I felt that too as a north supporter, it’s an awful time slot
Hell, give me a crowdfund link to this! Im sure thered be loads of people wanting to contribute towards this
Jeez Ed ... i reckon the Sheffield Shield counts as a real national competition in Australian sport 4:35 - harsh
Or the ffa cup or the nbl (next year), these comps all have teams from each state
Yeah, I thought of that as soon as he said it. Other sports also have state teams for all states. If the AFL doesn't get to it quickly, they'll be left behind and Tasmania will fall to other sports.
@@randomfm5983 FFA cup doesn’t count, it’s not a top tier competition and they don’t have an A-League side, you could count the NBL but basketball while it is growing is still small potatoes compared to any of the football codes.
I agree - except for the finals system - it should be 10 teams in a 20 team competition (exactly 50%). Also, there just isn't enough of a population to sustain a team in Darwin. So the only option would be a 3rd team in WA or the 1st ever international team in NZ.
Idk how a 10 team finals would work with the odd number after some teams are eliminated. 12 would work well tho I think. Also NZ will never work it would be a complete failure. If I’m honest I don’t understand why Canberra doesn’t get a team. GWS needs to commit to Sydney otherwise they’ll forever be between cities. GWS stays in Sydney and a Canberra team. Then call the Canberra team something national and they can play 4 home games in NT and northern Queenslander something
Or PNG...they are better than NZ, usually win the International cup

A new stadium in Downturn Hobart would definitely go off and I agree that they should be based in Hobart. But they should still play some home games in Launceston. Hawthorn has always drawn decent crowds there, and a Tassie team would draw even bigger ones
I'm Tasmanian and i approve this message

Finally... a grand plan for whole of Australia 🇦🇺 and fair fixturing (Home game in year A and Away game in year B)
Eddie’s never made so much sense. I’d like to think there’d be a lot of backing for both the Devils and the Crocs!
I like the idea but Tasmania would make sense to be a dark green colour and then if Queensland or Darwin get a team called the crocs which is a fantastic name then it would have to be a green team and that would make it bad because there the same colour as the umpires
Tasmania Deserve their own team now. They have produced lots of AFL Players, they have two state of the Art Stadiums, Tasmania does not need a new Stadium or any money from the Tax Payer.
Where are these stadia you talk of the only ones I know of are bellerive & york park?
@@faithstevens3424 Yes and both of these Stadiums are AFL Venues in 2021. They also both get the tick of approval from Cricket Australia for Test Match Cricket and the FFA for A-League. There is no need for the Tax Payer to build another Stadium with a roof there is currently ONLY one AFL Venue with a roof, does SA, WA and NSW need a Stadium with a roof? Yesterday there was an AFL game played in Ballarat which is in the Coldest part of Victoria the Stadium had no protection from the wing and it had no roof. What Eddie is saying is beyond stupid. Tasmania deserve a team next year not in 7 years time.
Perfect opportunity for Collingwood to relocate Eddy. Well done! Take it up
It wouldn't be Collingwood just because of how iconic they are and their fanbase. If anything it would be a team like North Melbourne or St Kilda, two clubs who haven't got as large of a fan base and impact on the AFL culture.
@@BenjaVOM yeah.. but you know... STUFF Collingwood.

Usually when Eddie speaks, I tune out. But I can't disagree with this, he's not just making a brilliant argument, but one that also brings in the NT that makes excellent financial sense.
Perfectly said
I agree with everything but the 12 team finals
I’d make it top 10,
7th host 10th (winner plays 6th)
8th host 9th (winner plays 5th)
Then it’s the normal finals series from there
Very well thought through and presented. I reckon the momentum will kick in from here.
20 comp team with a final 8 still. Will make it better for footy itself having 20 teams fighting for 8 spots. Have no byes, every club to field a reserves team. If injury happens to players then you can get your players from the reserves. This also gives a chance for overlooked players to still be in a afl system. Injured players who out for the season can be replaced by a reserves player. Atleast it gives clubs a replacement that already knows what's going on then a player who has know idea.
AFL players need a bye, you talk of the players as they are pawns. This games is one of the hardest games on your body and its getting faster. You expect players to play 20+ games straight year on year, all you do is shorten the players overall careers and players only play 10 years instead of 15.
Using the excuse of a players getting injured to blood a new player is honestly just wrong, and likely with more injuries all this does is welcomes more medi subs into the game and you get new players debuting with a vest.
@@buffalosoulja3666 is it wrong? Didn't they have a preseason draft after 12 weeks of footy lol. Don't clubs recruit players from other teams? Sorry that's no excuse cause it's happening now.
So the Gold Coast and GWS can have absolutely none of this and be held up by the comp while averaging 5k crowds but Tasmania needs to be God's gift to earth?
how do you know what the deals for Gc and gws were, you have no idea what goes on behind the scenes
@@JoshHolden-Aka-evani they were pretty well publicised mate, no need to look behind the scenes
To be fair, GWS had 659,164 through the gate in 2019 averaging 25,352 and GC 435,828 averaging 19,810. How many of those are GWS or GC supporters is unknown. But GWS membership has been slowly increasing year by year.
The AFL Season has already been cut back, the preseason used to be a 4 week comp plus there was a practice match before the preseason comp, and the Quarters used to be longer. Must have a roof WHY there is currently ONLY one AFL stadium with a roof why don't these other Stadiums need roofs. I don't think I have ever hear anyone complain about Optus Stadium or the Adelaide Oval not having a roof.
Ever been to Tasmania? Or ever watched a Tazzy game? The weather is crazy that is why they need a roof, next time have a think
It's not as "crazy" as people. And it out to be.
It cant be a pretty sad affair for weather down there, and it is not just about the football but also crowd attendance. Warmer, drier area for everyone will help to build better success for the team and fans. Not the worst call...
Love your work Eddie!
Eddies on point here. I live in Hobart & would like to see there own team here but I think it’s only fair that Darwin should get there own team it makes more sense business wise.
Darwin is a long way off and has a small population going against the likelihood of an N.T. team starting up but I might be wrong. Let's get the ball rolling with a Hobart team.
@@terrythekittieful I couldn’t agree more. I just think that the AFL could & should play more games up there, the dream time round should be played up there every year. But very true let’s get the ball rolling on a tassie team macquarie point would be a grate place for a new stadium
@@bennjykerridge1381 I would love to see a Darwin side in the comp, 10 years from now possibly, closer to 20 I reckon. I think the comp should eventually be split into two divisions. 12 sides in the premier division and 8-10 in the second. Sadly I can't see Nth. Melb. or St. Kilda or surviving in the competition unless they are enticed away to places like Hobart or Darwin. A third side in Perth and Adelaide would be a good thing too and I know I'm having my ten cents worth here Bennjy, but I reckon Melbourne could do with a third A.F.L. venue and a new boutique (don't you love that word?) stadium at Princes park would be ideal with Carlton and Essendon being the major tenants.
@Nordic Warrior That's like two Geelongs in Tassie. Haven't the better games and more games been played in Launceston though? If Hobart gets its own side that average will go up into five figures. If you have one Tassie side then it has to be based in the capital.
@Nordic Warrior Fair enough. Don't get me wrong. I would love to see a Darwin Buffaloes F.C. I would have loved to have seen a Darwin and a Hobart team before GWS or Gold Coast Subs, but I think Hobart or Launceston has the advantage for the moment with the close proximity to Sydney and Melbourne and the bigger population at the minute.

Not a bad plan Ed, how about a Northern Territory team to make up the 20th team ?
North Queensland is more populated
@Bailey Brown You will see a third WA team (representing the Joondalup/Northern Corridor area) before you see a third anything out of NSW and SA.

All makes perfect sense. Would love to see an expansion and it has to be to 20 teams. Tasmania would be great, although I'm still thinking a 20th side should be a 3rd WA or for an ACT franchise.
I don't see why the league in the next 20 years couldn't expand further still with Darwin and possibly a 3rd South Australia (Norwood). As long as investors can be found then expansion is a great idea.
The "not enough talent" argument is complete nonsense.
Agree,I’d go even further...I’d prefer > >20 teams Add Tassie, ACT, FN Qld, NT, a 3rd WA power club, 3rd SA Norwood. Possibly in a divisional EPL structure.
Then we’d have a more proportionally representation and less of the soulless, unbalanced mishmash we have now.
Glenelg in, Richmond out. Easy.
With hindsight it probably would have been better to have done the Canberra giants in 2012 because GWS get bigger crowds when they play at Manuka Oval than they do at the Sydney Showground
Eddie spitting facts, logic and straight up nous while the window licking sport "journalists" are saying 'dUh, ReLoCaTe NoRf MeLbOuRnE'.
Well thought out.
I think the AFL has to commit to a Tasmanian team first before the government decides to throw millions at a stadium
Our drafting is an absolute joke the recruiters don’t take the state league seriously because of how badly it’s run.
How would a 12 team finals series work?
Tasmania needs its own AFL Team they are ready now.
Is he for real the Tax Payer should be forced to pay tens on millions so Tasmania should have a team? Tasmania already have two Stadiums that are of AFL Standard and are currently successfully hosting AFL Matches. Why should the Tax Payer build a 3rd and it must have a roof again why? The MCG does not have a roof why should the AFL Stadium in Tassie have one? Tasmania today is more financially viable than at least 6 other AFL Teams. What Eddie is saying is too silly for words.
He mentions MONA, but wasn't MONA built 100% privately?
He says a roof because the tassie wether get very miserable at night, you wouldn’t want to be that team that’s always getting the last game on a Sunday arvo
I'd eventually like to see a 24-team comp in the future. That would open the door to the competition being split into a 'Premier League' and a Division 2, or 'Championship' (akin to the English football system), with relegation and promotion each season.
Why do we need to copy what they do overseas? Besides, I don’t believe we have the population to sustain 24 teams with reserves as well.
We definitely need a team in Darwin. Our indigenous talent deserves it at the very least
I fully agree. Stadiums with roofs in Hobart & Darwin to respectively keep out the cold and heat would truly complete the national competition. It would also be great for their local economies and provide opportunities for local kids.
Complete the national competition? Does Canberra not exist?
@@eli_0214 fair point. Melbourne is heavily skewed with teams.
Surely have a Canberra team be called something national so that they can play 4 home games in NT as well or something
@@eli_0214 Considering a healthy percentage of Canberra is made up of essentially fly in/out political residents, and the rest already have an established Rugby League side to support, would respectfully suggest the people and the corporate support will never be there for a stand alone AFL side. And a combined NT/ACT side won’t do it either. Would be like a couch surfing two headed poodle.
@@zekejones2249 That is complete nonsense. You cannot surely think that Canberra is made up of these so called “fly in/fly out political residents”? That is ignorance at its finest. How would a Canberra Rugby League team, which a lot of people don’t actually support in Canberra, affect a new AFL team, when participation wise AFL in Canberra is far superior to Rugby League, especially in the younger ages? A Canberra team would cover the demographic of 700-800k people if you include the ACT, surrounding NSW towns/cities, the South Coast and the Riverina. Nearly every GWS game in Canberra is sold out. How is the support not there?
The 20th team would have to be NT based. It is illogical to go further up the Queensland coast when you consider how much Gold Coast are still struggling to grow its membership base 10 years into their existence. AFL is such a core part of Western Australian culture already, where would a third team in that region get its support from? If work started now, you could go with Eddie's proposal and have two clubs READY to enter the AFL in 2028.
Canberra is the logical choice
@@eli_0214 Totally agree
Yes Canberra is definitely the right choice. I’ve mentioned it before but they easily could play home games in Darwin if they were called something national as a team name. Also I think GWS playing in Canberra is hurting GWS more than anything else.
Huge demands on Tassie, yet the AFL has made the Gold Coast mistake - twice.
Gold Coast isn’t a mistake. The game is exploding in Queensland
@@bman3074 and people don’t realise that the gold coast is I think the 6th biggest city in Australia by population, as big as Hobart could only dream of, so if they wanted to expand the game into southeast QLD they kid of had to do it in both cities, trust once the Gold Coast start making finals their membership, crowd sizes, support and stadium will get bigger
Where is the detailed blueprint?
If we need that 20th team to make it work I would love to see a combo NT and North Queensland team to make up for the lack of numbers if it were to be a solo NT team
The North Australia Crocs
If they create a Tassie team they should also do a NT team, like when they did suns/gws, just one team will make it an odd number.
Eddie addresses this.
Literally in the video...
@@johnmarc1986 they addressed it by saying there needs to be a 20th team, but they suggested a third WA team. I would rather see a NT team with a stadium in Darwin. Then it’s truly a national game.

If we’re gonna add a 20th team I’d do NT or ACT !
Pitty this amount of thought wasn't put into the Suns.
I think the 20th team should be located in Bunbury Western Australia, it would be like a Geelong situation, their own stadium in their own area. With a population of around 71000 it’s certainly possible to get a big crowd and in Wa we only live footy. The issue with a team in far North Queensland is the weather players training and playing every two weeks up there would hinder the team dramatically and I don’t see it working. To me a third wa side is the only option, but being half Tasmanian pls make the Tazzy devils a team it needs to happpen
Can you imagine how difficult it would be for a Tasmanian team to retain talent?
Imagine you're a famous, fit, cashed up male in your 20s, you have the choice between Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Queensland, Adelaide, or... Tasmania.
So true! This fits the tag line in the thumbnail. "Put up or shut up."
A job is a job. What matters more is the club culture.
Have you been to Tassie? It's a nice place. Most young people leave Tas for jobs. That's not a problem if you're an AFL player on $300k+/year
Get the hippie type of players it’s fine
I think we need 2 teams not 1, because than there will be a bye every round
Eddie says this.
Hobart and Launceston? Can't have one team with a state name. It's either the Hobart Kangaroos (if Nth Melbourne go there) or Launceston Larrikins.
Did you even listen to what was said?
@@hawkers94 nope, I only watched half the vid
Tasmania deserves a team hands down. Then hopefully we can worry about where team number 20 will be. For me it would either be Northern Territory, Canberra or Central or North Queensland.
Not sure if it's the AFL's fault or Tasmania's, but it's really perplexing why an AFL oriented state like Tasmania hasn't got at least one representative in the competition yet...
If you are going to have 20 teams you may as well have a wild card like the NFL. That would give every team a look in and keep the interest alive for longer.
Nar
Does the Victorian team also get a free set of steak knives for going??
Nice work Eddie 🙏🇦🇺
I’d say the tassie team plays most of their home games in Hobart at Blundstone arena then 1 or 2 in Launceston, then if there is 20 teams then finals are top 10, idk
Fantastic vision Eddie ... great forward thinking. How brilliant would it be to see these two teams after 20 or 30 years of development. While you're at it why not open both of those opportunities up to private ownership ... Mona's David Walsh for rhe Tassie team and Andrew Forrest for the NT team .. would fit nicely into Forrests work on indigenous opportunity ... a couple of phone calls Eddie and it's GAME ON !!
